You’re All Surrounded: Episode 15
by girlfriday
Our not-a-couple spends the entire episode trying desperately to hide their embarrassment and not let their feelings show, which of course makes said fluttery feelings blatantly obvious to the rest of the universe (and to us, hee). It’s an amusing hour filled with denials, company-mandated skinship, and a surprise sleepover that makes my day.

EPISODE 15: “Whether coincidence or fate”
Kiss! This time we stay with the team in the van as Dae-gu and Soo-sun lock lips, and Eung-do remarks that they sure are working hard for the case. Pan-seok closes his mouth long enough to chuckle, “And you said you weren’t supposed to eat the rabbit that lives in your house.” Hee. And in the back Tae-il comforts Gook, assuring him that it’s all business.
Dae-gu and Soo-sun pull away awkwardly, and he still keeps his gaze locked on her, but she can’t meet his eyes anymore.
The ride back is uncomfortably silent, to say the least, so then Pan-seok makes this hilariously obvious attempt to be cheery. He congratulates them on closing their own case and even helping Team 1 with this narcotics case, and laughs like a maniac to cover up everyone’s embarrassment.
Soo-sun says she wants to treat everyone out for helping with Mom’s case, so Pan-seok and Eung-do drop the kids off to start without them, promising to join after their department meeting.
The kids go out for beers, and Soo-sun sincerely thanks them for everything they did for Mom. She’s back in Masan now and feeling much better. Dae-gu says they don’t deserve the gratitude because they failed to make Birkin Bitch pay for her crime. He hangs his head and calls it a half-failure because of Assemblyman Yoo’s intervention.
Soo-sun says that’s not how she looks at it, and calls it a half-success. She muses that Mom’s always been the one to protect her; it never occurred to her that the day would come so soon when she’d be the one to protect Mom. She admits that it scares her and makes her a little sad, and Gook jumps in to say that they’re around to protect her.
Tae-il confesses that they were tempted to out Assemblyman Yoo’s connection to his daughter, since that seemed to be the thing he was most afraid of. Soo-sun says it did cross her mind too, but in the end she would rather lose righteously than win with foul play. Then she ruins her own moment by asking if that makes her sound cool, heh.
Gook is the one to bring up the kiss, and tries to play it cool by commending them for going so above and beyond the call of duty. Yeah, I’d say. He says it as if willing the words to be true—they had to act like a couple, and force themselves to kiss when they didn’t want to. Everyone else looks away.
Soo-sun and Dae-gu try so hard not to look at each other that I think their eyeballs might stick in opposite corners. She steals one little glance at Dae-gu while he isn’t looking, and starts feeling a little feverish.
She tosses and turns that night in her rooftop tent, and when she thinks about the kiss, her heart starts to race and she has to fan her face again. Dae-gu lies in bed with his hand over his heart, smiling to himself as he feels his heart race. He curls up with the most adorable grin on his face.
Pan-seok comes home to a nasty leak in his apartment, and the maintenance crew asks him to stay elsewhere for a few nights while they fix the pipes. He grabs a few boxes and goes straight to Eung-do’s apartment, where he’s greeted by four toddlers and Eung-do’s pregnant wife. He decides he can’t impose and heads off in search of Plan B.
I was totally expecting him to cave and go to Sa-kyung’s place, but the doorbell rings at the boys’ apartment, rousing them all out of bed. They open the door to find Pan-seok standing there with his stuff. This is going to be so great.
They’re all flustered when he asks to crash here for a few days, but it’s not like they can say no to their boss. Tae-il says it’s fine with them but they only have the couch to offer.
Gook corrects him—Dae-gu’s got a bunk free—only to realize after he says it how awkward that would be and how Dae-gu might rather die. Pan-seok is quick to assure them that he’s afraid of heights anyway and doesn’t like bunk beds.
It’s pretty funny how normally Tae-il would be the one to smooth over the rough edges, but right now he and Pan-seok are fighting over Sa-kyung too, so it’s just Awkward City any which way you look. They turn down his offer of a midnight snack and scurry to their rooms.
Pan-seok stays up late reading case files, and hears noises coming from Dae-gu’s room. He peeks in to see Dae-gu sleeping with cartoons on, and tucks him in under the covers. Awwwww.
In the morning, Dae-gu wakes up and sees Pan-seok’s case files sprawled out over the coffee table—it’s his mother’s case that he’s been working on. He rifles through them, and reads a report on Oh Joon-soo, the henchman who accompanied the man who threatened Mom against testifying in court. Dae-gu remembers seeing him that night, dressed in all black and wearing a black cap. Hm.
Dae-gu finds that Pan-seok’s boxes are filled with reports all on Mom’s case, from the time of the murder all the way to the present. He never stopped working on it all this time, and Dae-gu starts to look at him a little differently.
Dae-gu heads to the precinct early, and Soo-sun whirls around on her heels at the sight of him. Ha, that’s not obvious or anything. She’s so jumpy at every little thing he says or does that it’s a miracle she even makes it to her desk in one piece.
When she says she didn’t eat breakfast, he wheels over to her side of the desk with a sandwich, and she jumps out of her skin, sticking the ruler out in between them: “Maintain a safe distance! That’s your rule!”
He can’t exactly argue, and just makes her eat breakfast. She can barely handle standing there for thirty seconds and skitters away, and he just laughs because he finds everything about her cute for no reason.
Pan-seok goes to buy pig’s feet early in the morning, and the owner turns out to be Oh Joon-soo, the henchman involved in Mom’s case. Pan-seok’s been coming here off and on for years, judging by the wearied reception he gets.
Pig’s Feet sighs that he doesn’t have anything to say, but Pan-seok says he’s just here to get twenty-two orders of pig’s feet for the department picnic today. As Pig’s Feet puts the order together, Pan-seok wonders aloud why his boss hired Combat Boots and didn’t use the henchmen he already had, if he was truly the culprit behind Mom’s murder. Pig’s Feet swears he doesn’t know.
Pan-seok runs off when he gets a call from the Masan chief, who’s here with the detective who took Soo-sun’s witness statement eleven years ago. He’s about to call Dae-gu excitedly, but then remembers Boots’ warning about it being dangerous for the kid to dig further, and decides against it for now.
The old friends greet each other warmly, and the ex-cop says all he can remember is that he took the statement and then gave it to someone who promised to pass the message along to the chief.
The chief urges him to think harder, because he never received that message and it means that the person who intercepted it is likely responsible for the missing necklace too, which he nearly lost his job over. Try as he might he can’t remember, and Pan-seok deflates.
They turn to small talk, and the chief sighs over Boots and then asks how Chief Kang is doing. At the mention of her, a light bulb suddenly goes off in the ex-cop’s brain, and he remembers it: Chief Kang specifically insisting that Pan-seok was in no frame of mind to deal with it, and that she’d pass it along to the chief. Their jaws drop, and they don’t believe him at first. But now he’s sure that it was her. Pan-seok’s eyes widen in shock and disappointment.
That afternoon the violent crimes unit gathers for their department picnic. Pan-seok watches Chief Kang warily, wondering if he’s been fooled this entire time. They start off with the game where you have to gather in groups of whatever number gets called out, and three turns out to be the funniest, with Pan-seok trying to pry Tae-il and Sa-kyung apart, and Dae-gu trying to squeeze in between Soo-sun and Gook. In the end, Dae-gu and Pan-seok get tossed aside by their own teammates.
And then they play… suck and blow? At a company picnic? That is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. To everyone’s horror, Eung-do ends up in an open-mouthed kiss with Chief Toad. They all shudder, and then start chanting for them to date.
Dae-gu wins the big relay race for his team, and Chief Kang congratulates him happily. Everyone spends the day watching someone else—Dae-gu noticing every time Gook is nice to Soo-sun, Soo-sun trying not to be obvious about looking at Dae-gu, and Pan-seok clocking every move that Chief Kang makes.
Pan-seok takes his team out for dinner to celebrate, and Eung-do points out how far their babies have come since the first day, remembering all their terrible reasons for becoming detectives. And this time even Dae-gu answers and smiles when Eung-do calls him a numbskull.
Even Pan-seok agrees that their kids have grown, though he makes sure to add that they’ve still got miles to go. Soo-sun and Gook take turns mocking Pan-seok’s speeches about how they’ll never become detectives and how he’s never wrong, and he stares them down before letting them off the hook with a laugh.
Pan-seok gets called away by Chief Toad, Eung-do wipes his lips again at the mention of him. But the thought of the kiss turns his attention over to Dae-gu and Soo-sun, and he asks them point-blank: “You guys are dating, aren’t you? That kiss was real, wasn’t it?”
Dae-gu and Soo-sun fidget nervously, and Gook furrows his brow. Tae-il sighs and looks over at Gook, not at all surprised since he’s likely noticed all the signs before the kiss even happened.
Soo-sun nervously says no, and when Eung-do eggs her on to tell them the truth, she stammers that Dae-gu isn’t even her type. Gook jumps in to defend her, saying that it’s obviously all business between them.
But then suddenly Dae-gu says, “Not me. It wasn’t all business for me. It was real.” Eeeee! He looks right at her as he says it, and it renders her speechless. Gook downs a beer and Eung-do drunkenly slurs that Dae-gu is a man.
Soo-sun starts to hiccup in response, and runs off to the bathroom. At first she’s rambling to herself in shock and disbelief, but then as it dawns on her that this means he really likes her, she can’t help it—a smiles just creeps up on her face. How. Cute.
Gook and Tae-il find Dae-gu in the men’s room, and Gook slurs huffily at Dae-gu for the outburst, and not thinking about Soo-sun’s position in all this and how she might feel. Dae-gu remains stoic and says it wasn’t intentional—it just came out.
Tae-il assures Gook that Dae-gu was just drunk and pulls him away before things get tense. And then as soon as they leave, Dae-gu’s cool façade crumbles, and he buries his head in his hands in mortification. Hahahaha. Okay, I need to watch that again.
Pan-seok sits up that night going over all the things that Chief Kang said, which now seem suspicious in this new light. Dae-gu is up late too, and Pan-seok invites him to sit, which finally gives him the opportunity to ask about Mom’s case files.
Pan-seok says he’s been working on it over the years, but Combat Boots’ involvement eluded him all this time—he never imagined his ex-partner would be the killer. Pan-seok asks if he wants to go with him the next time he visits Boots in jail, and they agree to go together.
Dae-gu gets up to go to bed, and Pan-seok calls out after him, “Ji-yong-ah, I’m sorry that I couldn’t protect your mother. I’m really sorry.”
Assemblyman Yoo checks in with his son-in-law about the family company, wondering if he’s keeping an eye on the stock purchase maneuvers and if things are going according to plan. Madam Yoo accuses her husband with rumors that he’s actually backing the other side, but he dismisses them as false.
Their son Ki-jae shuts down the business talk at the breakfast table, which prompts Grandpa to nag him about what he’s going to do with his future. Ki-jae wonders if he should become a cop, like that cool hyung who came to the house to arrest Mom.
Chief Kang comes to see Assemblyman Yoo at the shooting range, and they speak in thinly veiled metaphors about how hitting nine out of ten targets is meaningless if that last one gets away from you.
She in turn asks what he’s got to show for the nine other targets, and changes her tone to point out that he’s already in his second term in office, and still has nothing to show for his end of the bargain. There’s been no public motion and no hearing on the matter, whatever it is, and she demands to know when she’ll see results. Innnteresting. So you did agree to sell your soul for something.
She says that she trusted him to keep his word, but wonders if power has corrupted him, or if maybe this was his true face from the start. He points out that she’s in too deep to be wondering that now, and she admits that he’s right about that, but tells him that she’s no longer the same person either: “I’ve grown a little too.”
It’s finally moving day for Soo-sun, and the boys arrive to help her haul stuff out of her rooftop tent. Gook hesitates before leaving Dae-gu alone with her, and they hem and haw for a while before Dae-gu joins her in the tent.
She fans her face nervously when he sits close enough to brush up against her, and he asks hesitantly if he’s really not her type. She sort of answers that he isn’t, which makes him mad, and he asks if the kiss was really all business for her.
But before she can answer, she drops her jewelry case, and he goes to pick it up. That’s when he finally discovers the pendant—the one he found at his house the day Mom was murdered, and went missing from police evidence that same night.
He recognizes it immediately, and demands to know where she got it. She says she found it at school in the science lab. A flashback confirms that she came to the classroom looking for Ji-yong, and hid from Boots on her way there. Ji-yong was long gone by then, but she found the necklace on the ground and picked it up, thinking it was pretty.
We catch up to the team as she’s telling them how she found it, and Dae-gu can’t believe she’s had it all this time and didn’t make the connection that it had something to do with Boots. She feels terrible and apologizes, swearing that it never occurred to her because she naturally assumed it was a woman’s necklace.
Pan-seok tells them they’re not going to hand the pendant over when they don’t know whom to trust, and decides that the only way they’ll get anywhere with the evidence is to investigate on the sly. Dae-gu agrees for once, though he questions Pan-seok’s order to keep it a secret even from Chief Kang.
Pan-seok doesn’t know what to say, and Eung-do comes up with the excuse that she’d have to follow the rules and hand it over to the prosecutor’s office, so they agree not to tell her. Their first task is to identify the necklace and where it might have been made and sold.
They ask Sa-kyung for her opinion, and she tells them to upload pictures online and ask jewelry fanatics and experts if anyone recognizes the design. Pan-seok uses the chance to sneak in a date request, and she points out that he’s going to be awfully busy now with this case.
She tells him he should stick to his strengths and just be happy working for the rest of his life, and he swears up and down that he’ll make time. Besides, he’s not about to let her off the hook on the divorce talk, and whines about Tae-il knowing the answer when he doesn’t.
He gripes about her hugging Tae-il just because he asked for a sympathy hug, and nags, “Hug ME like that!” He grumbles again about Tae-il’s non-apology about not being sorry, and she smiles, finding his jealousy cute.
The team gets to work trying to identify the pendant, but so far it isn’t a design that anyone recognizes. Pan-seok takes a moment to look at the photo of him with his old partner, and this time he finds a number written on the back: 0723. I knew there’d be a clue in that thing. He doesn’t think much of it for now, and watches Chief Kang intently.
He and Dae-gu head to the prison to visit Boots, but he declines to see them. They catch a break in the necklace hunt though, and Soo-sun calls with an update that they’ve found the Parisian jewelry designer who happens to be here for an exhibition.
Pan-seok and Dae-gu go to see the man who made the necklace, and he identifies it as his work from a collection where he designed limited-edition one-of-a-kind pieces. He has to dig through his records to find it, and shows him the sketch—with “Yoo Ae-yeon,” aka Madam Yoo, aka Birkin Bitch, written at the top of the page.
They’re stunned, and Dae-gu asks if it’s the same Yoo Ae-yeon of Chasung Group. The designer checks the purchase log, and there’s her card. It’s Madam Yoo all right. They walk out in a stupor, and Dae-gu says it doesn’t make sense—that woman came to his house eleven years ago and killed his mother?
Pan-seok asks if he knows of any connection between Madam Yoo and his mom, but naturally he has no idea. Dae-gu thinks back to his last puzzling conversation with Madam Yoo, and says he did think it was weird because she acted as if she knew who he was.
They go right over there to confront her head-on, and for once she lets them into the house. Pan-seok drops the pendant down right in front of her, and they clock her reaction. She’s shocked. Pan-seok lets her stew in her panic for a moment before asking, “You recognize this, don’t you?”
COMMENTS
The one-of-a-kind pendant is disappointingly convenient, especially when you consider the fact that it takes our characters this long to come to such an obvious conclusion. I honestly never expected this drama to go so far as to be twisty, but a little sleuthing would make the discovery more satisfying, rather than coincidentally finding the necklace that Soo-sun forgot about, and then coincidentally lucking out because it’s an original design, not to mention the fact that the designer happens to be in the country for just that one day.
Mystery is certainly not this writer’s strong suit, but I honestly wouldn’t quibble about that if our characters could just be a little smarter and have the satisfying aha-moments of discovery. I don’t want them to be told the answers—I want them to dig where they shouldn’t be digging and be smart enough to put the puzzle pieces together themselves. These are elements we see in them as they work their day-to-day cases, but when it comes to the overarching case, it feels like their intelligence is held back for the sake of delaying the reveal. It’s frustrating because you want them to be at their sharpest in the one case that’s most important. I want to be wowed by the legendary Seo Pan-seok and Dae-gu’s high IQ, but the result is the opposite because the writer feels the need to stretch this one mystery to the end, and we’re left waiting for our cast to catch up to us.
Plotwise, the one thing that keeps me caring is their personal stake in the case, because they feel so guilty and responsible for what happened to Mom, and the only way they’ll get past that is to find answers and seek justice. I really wish Assemblyman Yoo were a better villain, because fear would add a healthy dose of suspense, but that fizzled out once Boots went to jail and then we were left with a politician who threatens to kill, but no assassin to make that threat feel real anymore. Perhaps it’s time for him to hire more henchmen? We need something to light a fire under their asses, so if you’ve got an army of killers, now’s the time to use ’em.
Of course despite all that, the episode itself was enjoyable for entirely different reasons, since we got to spend the hour watching Dae-gu be a lovesick guppy and Soo-sun try her damnedest not to be a rabbit-eater. I like watching their very sweet uncomplicated romance that’s now all about the discovery of feelings, especially in this phase where denial is more telling than confessions. It’s great that he’s always one step ahead of her too, because now that she’s in denial, he’s finally being direct. It’s too bad that Soo-sun never moved in with the boys, but Pan-seok sleeping over was even better. Dae-gu gets to see firsthand how much time and energy he’s dedicated to Mom’s case, which speaks far more than any apology could. I hope his entire apartment gets flooded, because now I want every day to end with Pan-seok tucking Dae-gu into bed at night.

Sth doesn't compute for me re that evil chaebol wife, the Assemblyman's daughter:
The Assemblyman was a policeman, so he couldn't have been chaebol, right? Her daughter's chaebol status comes from where? From her husband?? And he lets his wife and FIL walk all over him??? Doesn't he have henchmen of his own to put them in their place????
Drama after drama has shown us how politicians are bought and kowtow to chaebol guys. Why not here?????

Chaebol status probably came from violent air-head's mom's side. Why not?

A chaebol daughter marrying a policeman?
Tae Il's mother, who is rich but not exactly chaebol, considers cops to be a very lowly existence. And Violent Woman doesn't seem the type to marry against her family's wishes for love. I find it strange that this whole thing hasn't been dealt with.

He was a Police Commisioner if I'm not mistaken, meaning the head of police in the country? So I think he should be amassing a considerable amount of wealth before turning into politics. I wouldn't discount the possibility of hidden corruption when he was the Chief, so I'm not surprised that he is wealthy.

I don't think it's fair to assume that just because one rich person looks down on cops, all rich people must belittle them. However, even if we are to think the worst of Assemblyman Yoo's wife and assume her to be the stereotypical, terrible chaebol ( where is she anyway), it is not impossible for her to marry Assemblyman Yoo, epecially when he was the police comissioner with a plan to enter politics.
Typical drama chaebols tend to marry for power and Assemblyman Yoo was not only NOT lacking it at that time, he was also set to gain more. True, chaebols may look down on cops, but it is usually only targeted at field cops and even then, they're belittled because they have little power over the major issues. They can only investigate when allowed to and have to stop immediately when taken off the case. Police Commisioners on the other hand are different. They have absolute control on who does what, so if the Chaebol wants and issue covered, they can make it stay under wraps by ensuring that no one will be investigating it.
Drama chaebols tend to merge/cooperate in the following sectors besides between themselves: The top ranked police (the one who controls the "evidence"), lawyers, prosecutors and judges ( the ones who manipulate the situation and perspectives derived from the evidences) and of course, politicians ( the ones who set the policies and laws that affect big businesses the most). Assemblyman Yoo was going from group 1 to group 3. He's a man who could be an important ally.
But I don't know if that family really are chaebols. They might just be fikthy rich people, *shrugs*.
Also, it is unrelated to the above, but Assembly Yoo's daughter probably married her husband because she got possesive of him and not because she really loves him ( but who am I to say otherwise) & her husband probably married her for the money. Even though he's stepped all over by her, he seems to not give a flying rat's ass over her shenanigans.

I agree about the writer not showing how legendary PS is and how intelligent DG is supposed to be. She should take a leak out of the TK2H's writers. They showed Jaeha's high IQ.

usually these are things that get exaggerated. in like modern folk tales. people create an image that fits what they see. but nobody is really that simple. I thought they showed it pretty well. Pan Seok is legendary because he works the hardest. Look at those case files. It was very moving. it is the mental and physical burden he carries around even while being temporarily homeless. he leaves everything else but he takes the files. and Dae Gu being smart - yes, for a 15 year old. Good at exams, not necessarily good at life. He is also very impulsive as you saw. no matter how smart you are if you cannot control your feelings you might appear like a fool.

Agree 100% with u!! Dae Gu is a kid that reflects his feelings, like admeting the kiss is real, and I like this in him, and PS is really hardworking and deserves the legendary nickname!! but also agree they should show us DG's high IQ, he needs to put the pieces together with his smart brain, I'm feeling it coming, they have to trap evil ajhumma somehow

I think this episode's coincidence was written on purpose.
Since right from the start we all knew that the pendant was with soo-sun, yet conveniently when the questioning was happening, even though the pendant was mentioned many times, soo-sun was the only team member who wasn't in the viewing room.
It was clear that the pendant was going to come out coincidentally. I guess that is why, for that matter, when it's discovered, and the designer being in town, was to exaggerate/magnify the coincidental factor.
It also wouldn't make sense if they can dig and find the pendant after 11 years, when Detective Seo never gave up investigating. If the pendant can be found by skills alone, it would have been found long ago.
Since it's been 11 years ago, and no evidence was found. The only possible way for the discovery of evidence to take place is coincidence. So i find that it makes perfect sense, so that we can buy all the related storyline.... soo-sun was there at the school, she saw combat boots, and she found a pendant.

I'm shocked Dae Gu admitted the kiss was real! Totally wasn't expecting that. I'm hoping Gook doesn't get as petty as he did with the Tae-il jealousy. Though I'm glad he's not really treating Dae Gu any differently.
Love that PS moved in for a while lol. The whole drama I was expecting Soo Sun to, but then it was PS and it was just as fun. I also seriously love Dae Gu yelling at Soo Sun about the pendant. Speaking for the audience lol
The overall case, it's like we know what happened so it's not particularly that interesting. I figured out evil woman injured mom and had Boots cleaned up the mess and Dae Gu is a bastard son of her husband most likely. But I still love the characters and everything else so it's all right with me.

"I’m hoping Gook doesn’t get as petty as he did with the Tae-il jealousy" yes my hope too, he will be really petty if he does, since he doesn't take the move toward SS, and DG is taking it first, what can I say? U never lose by loving, u only lose by holding back Gookie, sorry but 15 years old Dae Gu wins her heart!!!

YAAS team should add at least 1-2 episodes...
For me, 20 eps are not enough. There's still many tiny details of the characters and story that are yet to unveiled. Not to mention the progress (in terms of work as detectives) of each team members.

I wish this drama would just drop the murder mystery that has zero suspense or excitement. It's so much better at being cute, adorable and romantic with a touch or realism. I love the relationships between the characters, how much they fit in each others lives and how much they influence one another. The interactions make or break an episode rather than this wretched mystery that's beyond boring because somehow, we always find out things before our heroes do.
Dae-gu is such a man. Or a child. I'm conflicted. He can be deemed as manly because he decided to be honest, but I also see him as his 15 year-old self; honest and straightforward like he was back then. Either way, he is so much love! I just love how convinced I was that he didn't think his declaration was a big deal. Then his mask is snatched, and I died. Such a good moment. I'm glad he's ready to face his feelings because that's so much like the Dae-gu we know. He's a no-bullshit kinda guy and its so refreshing to root for a character that doesn't go through denials for too long.
Soo-sun is adorable. I know that's exactly what I'd do if someone declared they liked me with an audience. Although her face screamed she hoped he'd tell her in private. Or maybe that's just me seeing things. Really, I'm just glad there's a move on from her side of things. This drama does its love line well, but just way too slow. I wish we were much further in progress since we have only 5 episodes left. I just hope it moves swiftly from here on.
I just refuse to believe Chief Kang's concern for Dae-gu is not genuine. When he won the race, she seemed so excited and proud of him. I really want her so much to be someone who protects him. Her conversation with Assemblyman Yoo is interesting. So she may not want to do it but is forced to do so in replacement for something else? I hope its a good reason because I really want to root for her. Her mystery is the only suspense that keeps me interested; I'd be mighty upset if it turns out to be a dud.
I'm confused why the writer had Soo-sun live in a tent for 15 episodes if she wasn't going to move in with the boys anyway. It feels like a pointless development that went absolutely nowhere. It was a great opportunity to have interactions outside work, I legitimately don't understand why it wasn't used.
All in all, this episode was great. I was laughing all through the picnic; the absurd, OTT hilarious race, kiss-that-shouldn't-be, threesomes where our heroes get their ass kicked - literally... this needs to happen more often than those pointless weekly cases we get. I hope we get some hiking or mountain climbing at some point. Or a very fancy yacht party. Or beach party. I want something fun with shippy moments. I know it's probably too much to ask, but I'll do it anyway.
Also, Chief Toad simply kills me. I heart him <3 so he can tag along ^^

I totally think she wanted to be told in private! She had a little smile on her face. I could see it. Now I'm not sure of her next move. Or what should happen next. DG's been rejected a few times already, but not totally so he keeps trying? She has to make the move now?
I don't get why the writer had Soo Sun move into the tent either. The only thing it led to was PS stalling SS/DG progress once (and that whole thing led nowhere too, DG or SK didn't get jealous, no one sided crush developed between PS/SS either). And SS' mom stayed over once. Seems a waste of time. We don't even know where she moved to. I guess it's not really that important.
I keep thinking how much better this drama would be (though I do enjoy it a lot) with no mystery everyone knows the end of and if they weren't cops. The cast interacting with each other is the best part of any given episode. The writer has such a fabulous cast of characters with great chemistry and isn't putting them to good use a lot of times.

The writer really intended to let Soosun move into Daegu's house, it was why Soosun said that she had some intuition that she would move into P3's house on someday. But after the 'chess kiss''s reactions from viewers she gave up since Seunggi's Kfans showed much annoyed about how they used Seunggi's body for the drama attention much, even K-reporters showed that too.
In addition, Kovea is one of the sponsors of the drama, they even promoted publicly it as the names 'Soosun's tent' and 'Lee Seunggii's chair' although both Seunggi in person and Daegu didn't use their chair yet. We could see on this episode, they even let Daegu sitting on their chair for a while before going into Soosun's tent to help her :))
Same case with the scene Soosun treatting Team3 with beer and fried chicken it's PPL for the beer and fried chicken. The searching sites they use for searching are also sponsors too. However, it's not all PPL scenes in this episode are for nothing. Such as the scene where Daegu gave Soosun his breakfast with banana milk and Broadway, it's really a cute scene and it showed Daegu's sincere love for Soosun since everybody all knew how 'precious' banana milk to Daegu LOL.

If that was really the reason why SS never moved in with the guys, "Strawberry kiss" was actually one of the highlights and most memorable moments of the show. If SS moved in with the guys, there would've been more of that and more fun interaction between P4, but sometimes fan jealousy (ie, the strawberry kiss cuz they wish it was them giving LSG the strawberry kiss) can ruin what could have made a good show even better.
Eva
July 3, 2014 at 7:42 AM
I was gonna say that if that was the reason the writer decided to write off SS moving in with the guys was because of fans hating cuz they are probably jealous that they wish they were the ones giving LSG the strawberry kiss instead of Ara, then it SUCKS!

July 3, 2014 at 7:45 AM
Hmm, I think that's only assumption, we are not the writer or know the truth, better not state it as fact, it makes kfans look bad, actually they also complain there's so little romance but she didn't give us much, so I think fans' complaint isn't the real reason for that matter.

I myself don't think it's quite a waste of SS's tent living in. That takes part in admirably describing the character with her all passion for work and her beautiful goal of saving the world despite her temporarily living situation. Living, working, making people around her happy. That's why I love the girl so much. She makes me remember there was a time in my life when I was at her age with the same passion like that.

"Of course despite all that, the episode itself was enjoyable for entirely different reasons, since we got to spend the hour watching Dae-gu be a lovesick guppy and Soo-sun try her damnedest not to be a rabbit-eater."
Hihihi, I enjoy that part, too. And the confession. I didn't expect that. It's also unexpected that the man in black behind the company president who threaten Mom wasn't Boots. I always thought that he was Boots. It's also interesting that Chief Kang is willing to work with that assemblyman for something. Nice. I think this drama always give us new revelation(s) in each of its episode., and that's good.

The answer to why Dae Gu's mom was killed and who killed her is going to end up being so incredibly weak and boring. I can just feel it. Lucky for the drama writers, I'm completely invested in our a little group of leads, and I'm willing to put up with these silly mystery shenanigans in order to see them.
Personally, I think a great twist (cause the mystery could really use a good plot twist at this point) would be for Madam Yoo's husband to be revealed as the killer. Mainly because no one would be expecting it, and it would actually be sort of interesting, as opposed to Chief Kang or Madam Yoo or Assembleyman Yoo or Lindy Loo being revealed as the culprit. (Because really. Who Cares.) Obviously, this is not going to happen, but I can still include it in my own personal head cannon.
And am I the only one, or does anyone else think that pendant isn't really pretty enough to be some limited edition, fancy pants necklace by a famous designer? I mean, it's a pretty necklace for sure. I would totally wear it. But when I look at it, I do not think 'Famous Jewelry Designer.' I think Target, lol.
At least we've now got a super cute romance budding between our leads, a super cute bromance budding between our adorable frenemy/'father and son' duo, and lots of wonderfulness from the rest of our little cop team. They are all making this drama worthwhile.
Now maybe we can get some real development with Pan Seok and Sa Kyung?

I think what struck me most about the pendant was the really stupid reaction of both of them when they found it and picked it up.
Apparently they both thought it was "really pretty" (it's not, it's freaking ugly). They both giggled about how great it was to find it, with apparently no thought at all as to where it might have come from, who dropped it, or why it was there. It was more like "oh lucky me, I found an expensive pendant so I will just keep it and then totally forget about it". Even after all the murdering went down, neither of them thought that perhaps finding a diamond pendant where violence just occurred was significant.

Well, Dae Gu really had no reason to question why it was lying on the porch of his house when he first picked it up. Anyone could have dropped it for any reason. He did figure out it's significance after his mother was murdered, and he turned it over to the police. And up until recently, he thought the police still had it and hadn't been able to figure out who it belonged to. It's not his fault Chief Kang got rid of it so that no one on the force would know about it. But Soo Sun? You think she would have been like 'That's weird. What's this necklace doing here? Where there's clearly been some kind of fight. Possibly between Dae Gu and that scary looking guy I saw in the hallway. This is a little suspicious.' We can chalk that up to her being a teen and not knowing any better, but she's an adult now. She have put two and two together at this point.

agree with you about the mundane reason for mom's murder.
actually i think that madame yoo's husband is ji-yong's father.
madame yoo can't stand the sight of jy and it's not because he came to arrest her.
in an earlier episode chief kang revealed that she working to get more power for the police regarding investigating criminals and is pushing the assemblyman for that. oh well, it should all come right in the end.

but then, he takes care of everyone.
also every time Pan Seok calls Daegu Ji Yong....

To me, the show is not just about solving cases, but also about character growth and interaction. It's the journey that each one takes into finding themselves. So, although I understand everyone's sentiments with regards to the murder mystery not being really a mystery, I think the writer has chosen to show how the characters deal with the situation, rather than making the story too overly complicated. The writer also puts enough twists to keep things interesting, but the main point is still about the characters. We, as the viewers, know what's going to eventually happen, so all we need to do is enjoy the show.
I honestly am enjoying this show and loving it even more than expected. I find myself enjoying this with each episode. It's got its tender moments, and it's got its intense moments, and everything else in between. I guess I'm just sick and tired of too much melo, too much whining and crying in shows, that this is a nice and welcome change of pace.

If they did the "real Kiss" and started the loveline 5 episodes sooner, then it would've been nice to have Dae Gu's noona crush from 11 years ago show up, but with only 5 episodes left, it feels like she and Dae Gu won't have much room for a loveline left, especially with Gook trying to insert himself as a wanna be boyfriend.

I made a quick look up, and find that korean national assembly elected every 4 years. It was held in 2004, 2008, 2012.
I guess 'something' Chief Kang wants is a bill for police independency in investigation (or any bill) since it has a lot to do with Yoo's assemblyman status.
If now is assemblyman Yoo's 2nd period, in 2003 he's not even in a campaign. What was Chief Kang's end of deal then?
Or maybe I'm just thinking too much

It was awesome to see PS moving into the apartment instead of SS (which we for the longest time hoped she would, right? every time Mom came to Seoul for example :D). It opened up so many possibilities in the bromance department. DG needs a family, and let's be honest: PS is Daddy material!
He could have just as well moved in with SK, I bet she wouldn't have let him sleep outside; but I'm glad the show decided to focus on the team's relationship - which still has DGs awkward confession hanging over it.
But with 5 episodes left that was kind of necessary IF they wanted to develop the love plot; otherwise we would still be at square one with so much denial and angst and non-movement. I'm so glad we're not!

I am really a great fan of LSG so I am still faithfully watching the show. As much as I want to convince myself that YAAS is a good drama, I cannot deny the glaring fact that this drama has been a step backward from the drama progress of LSG.
King 2 Hearts is one of my all-time favourite Korean drama. It was where I started really liking LSG. The predictable plot in YAAS is like a small fish in the huge ocean plot of K2H. So I just feel it's such a waste that they are under-utilising LSG. He can do a role far greater than this. I guess being a king in a modern drama sets the bar too high that any thing less would fall short. But even considering YAAS solely by its own merits, it is hugely lacking in having a meaningful and dynamic overall significance in its plot.
On a side note, I want to thank the Dramabeans team for consistently and promptly updating us with the latest YAAS recaps. The commentary and the detailed recounts especially with regard to the characters' expressions and their implied intentions make it a such a good read.

I can understand the need to make the necklace one-of-a-kind because why else would the person who lost it be all that panicked about it? A police officer is most likely to assume the necklace belonged to the victim unless there was something else odd or unique about it. However, I agree with you that it was just way too convenient for them to find the designer and the owner so fast. I feel like the writer is just throwing the answers to the characters instead of letting the characters discover the answers themselves as smart detectives.

This drama has gotten so slow. I'm disappointed. I feel like all of the actors are being underused/ under-appreciated. First it's the very slow plot that has lost all urgency and interest, especially the case/mystery around Mom's murder. I also feel like the filming of many of the scenes of the later half of the episodes are also adding to the overall slowness of this drama. Too many scenes are stretched out with shots and focuses that are unnecessarily long. And the use of the background music/songs are also jarring at a lot of scenes. Please, PD-nim and writer-nim, pick up the pace again so this drama doesn't end in a drag.
