Three more teasers for Three Musketeers
by girlfriday
javabeans: Why do tvN teasers spend so much time and money to tell us nothing about its dramas?
girlfriday: I DON’T KNOW.
javabeans: By now we’ve seen six, read ’em, six whole teasers for Three Musketeers, and all I know is that there will be swords and fighting. Apparently in a curtain shop.
girlfriday: Yes, but why is that curtain shop in a warehouse in the present day?
javabeans: Did they forget the part of the process where they fill in the green screen? It’s like when you see photos from the poster shoots before anything has been photoshopped in, and they’re just being cute with imaginary props.
girlfriday: It’s just the strangest teaser for a sageuk I’ve ever seen. Do you suppose tvN and OCN just have the one warehouse where they shoot all teasers, regardless of genre?
javabeans: I’m pretty sure they use that warehouse to shoot the dramas too. Remember all of Vampire Prosecutor’s gangster fights? Maybe it’s a budget saving strategy. Gotta save up for all the costuming and hair gel!
girlfriday: But who could pay attention to all that hair when Yong-hwa is mugging for the camera after every action move?
javabeans: Can somebody tell him that acting is about acting like you’re not acting?
girlfriday: That’s two levels too many. Put sword in hand. Point face toward camera. Action!
javabeans: To be fair, when the face is that pretty, half of the time that’s enough. And the other half of the time, Lee Jin-wook!
girlfriday: What about the other two musketeers?
javabeans: Oh, they get half the time too. Four halves equal double the awesomeness.
girlfriday: This show has terrible math anyway. All for one and one for all and all that. (Is anyone else incapable of hearing that line without Bryan Adams singing it to you?)
javabeans: I am NOW. Thanks.
girlfriday: You’re welcome!
javabeans: And now my pain is your pain.

How is that pain? That's not pain! Ladies~ those men are classics! I swoon as hard for Sting or Rod as I do for any flower boy.
Maybe they just appeal to those of us who are a bit older...

Yep. And speaking of copious amounts of hair gel and mugging for the camera...Rod invented it. Idols, learn from the master.

Speaking of irresistibly cheesy classics, what about Michael Bolton? He could compete with Yong Hwa on the hair.

i believe the pain referenced is directed at the Bryan Adams song churning endlessly in they heads whenever the tag line is mentioned:
all for one and one for all and all for love and on and on and on and on...because it never stops churning in your head.
and i must say...all of those teasers make no sense at all to me.

The first teaser was a little too hectic but the other two are gorgeous even though they tell us nothing about the show.
Also Lee Jin Wook looks awesome.

Well, if you care to look at his character's description, you'd know that as compared to the other musketeers he is supposed to be an amateur fighter but very talented. The other musketeers learned skills professionally while Dalhyang (Yonghwa) learned his naturally in the rugged mountains so he fights with no techniques but by mere instincts.

I am extremely impressed with how clever the Yonghwa fans can be when defending their oppa.

"Dalhyang's swordplay style reflects that he learned on his own in a rural mountain. Compared to someone properly trained, he's not as clean, but he's good at using the surrounding terrain and features. To use a metaphor of dancing, it's like free dancing. It's not a learned technique, but full of confidence."

I kind of like the teaser with the curtains.... though I can't say why. LJW looks pretty regal. The only bit that was off was the one actress having a seemingly damsel-in-distress moment for one second.
<Is anyone else incapable of hearing that line without Bryan Adams singing it to you?
Now that you've mentioned it (and linked the song), yep! But it's one of those great songs, pretty sure I played that on repeat as a kid.

I watched the three teasers before reading this article. In my opinion, the teasers are only done to give us a vague impression of what the characters are and a little of what the story will be. Just teasers, no plans of divulging any hint of what the story will be. Lol. So I was "Oh pretty teasers." And that action teaser above actually got my interest more. I guess my tastes are just simple because I was liking how Yonghwa was doing his action scenes as well. I have a lot of doubts on his acting but then again, this is just my opinion, he didn't do bad on the teasers. So I might be watching this drama with a bit renewed hope that he won't be terrible again. No criticisms for Lee Jin Wook. He's mighty fine as a prince.

yeah I agree. I'm not a fan of his acting but his action scene in the teaser is fine.

I only know him from dramas so you're probably more familiar with him than me. I didn't find anything wrong with him in the teaser though.

LOOOL, OMG you had me at "curtain store"
I am looking forward to this for 2 main reasons
1. Its the team behind Nine and QIHYM. I feel they have earned my trust.
2. LEE JIN-WOOK OPPA.

I liked the teaser, a lot tbh. It peaked my interest in something I would otherwise not have interest for. I am just not a fan of Korean historical dramas. I am game for Chinese ones, but Korean ones have always looked a little low budget and lacking in spectacle & story.
I'd be interested in this if the drama followed a similar experimental feel, because traditional sageuk = zzZZzz for me.

Jung Yong Hwa better fix his hair before he trips and have a accident with his sword. How can he see if he has to do swordplay?

Aren't you guys aware of Yonghwa's character description? That will tell you a bit why his fight scenes are like that compared to Lee Jin Wook's character as a prince. Yonghwa (Dalhyang) is supposed to be a passionate warrior who learned his skills in the mountains naturally, he's got no techniques but fights by instincts compared to the Crown Prince who learned his skills professionally.

The teaser was fun enough. Hopefully once they start filming, they'll release a teaser that tells us a little bit more.

What's with the clip of the half-naked chick doing a make-up commercial? And her friend selling flower arrangements? Not very Joseon.

So basically you are saying tvN knows that I am shallow enough that if you give good looking guys swords, I will check it out. Not that I will watch the whole thing mind you, but really, that's all I need to know to check it out. Sometimes I feel like I am a pretty deep person, but not at moments like these.

This could be good, but I get weirded out when the youngest male lead is wearing a brighter shade of red lipstick than the female leads.

Umm... Maybe they are not sure what the story is about?
Maybe the teasers are there to prepare us to... Well... A drama that no-one-knows-what-it's-about-but Hey! Here is Yong Hwa again and he-is-so-pretty!
(That would also explain him looking at the camera- to distract us from... thinking any further.)

I actually kind of like the look of the first video. I know it's probably nothing like what the drama will look like, but I dig how the characters stand out from the curtains. Weird.
Yoo In-young looks really gorgeous in her Joseon garb, by the way.

can't tell if the complaints are legit or not. it's a teaser. its purpose is hinted in its name: to tease. the official trailer, which will probably come out a week or two before it airs, will probably give a clearer picture of the storyline & characters (although, why do you even need one lol this is based on a 200 yr old book)

Perso, I freakin' loved the teaser. The cinematography is just so pretty. It kind of reminds me of Tree with Deep Roots where I swear, Joseon looked the most beautiful.
Seriously, I have been replaying the latest teaser where they fight since yesterday. I don't care about the curtain shop or whatever but it's just so intense, especially with the BGM.
Plus, I don't really care about not explaining the storyline because so often, we expect something and then, BAAM, we get disappointed because it's not what we wanted it to be. Here, we are introduced to the characters and so far, it's doing a pretty good job. At least, it is because I am anticipating it so hard whereas I wasn't initially.

I totally misses this post.
All for one and one for all.
All of me (one) is for one (LJW) for all (of time.)
I really don't care what this is about. He looks fabulous. Even after all this time since Nine, I get a little breathless thinking about when he locked (gulp) that hotel room door and (unf) kissed that lucky woman on the bed. My toes didn't uncurl for days.

I for one am looking forward just to see Yong-Hwa since I really haven't seen any of the other actors in action. JYH has a bit to go but he's sooo cute and adorable I can forgive his lack os acting skills without a qualm...can't wait for this to start.

Hey, could someone please explain why there's four men when the title is The Three Musketeers? Is one of the them a baddie or something? Or maybe a separate leader...? Maybe the three bodyguard muskateers?
I'm sorry, I have no background info at all D:

I just want to point out a minor problem with the tags. When I click on the title of the series, I get fewer posts related to TTM than if I click on Jung Yong Hwa's name, for example. So it seems the tags are not systematic and consistent.
I think it's early enough to fix that (and maybe determine how many tags will always appear on these posts?).
IRL, I work with a database and my job is all about finding the correct object (or information pertaining to it) so I am sensitive about this sort of thing. Thank you for looking into that!

I'm looking forward to see Yonghwa acting as a "warrior" from the Joseon Era. I have always been fan of Yonghwa the singer but he's honestly not the best actor. However, knowing how hard he works to improve his acting skills, I can't but support his acting career. Besides, he has shown improvement in his previous work "Marry Him Id You Dare" so I'm pretty sure the Yonghwa I'll see in "The Three Musketeers" will not disappoint me. He can do it. I believe in him. His passion for his work (whether acting or singing) is what makes me stay by his side. He really works hard and he gives the best of his best to nail his characters. He failed sometimes, YES, but he never stopped trying, and even showed improvement. I respect him for that. I don't care what you guys think about him. I'll just keep on supporting him as long as he gives the best he can.
