I love how you've just given up explaining and let the titles speak for themselves xD

Omg, this is ridiculous. Just give it a rest already, MBC.

LYA obviously doesn't want to do it, otherwise she would've agreed already.

Either do a spin off with a new actress, or oh I don't know, maybe come up with a new idea for a sageuk drama and forget about pointless sequels?? It's not rocket science.

(I'm still bitter than Unprecedented got shafted for this tbh because that sounded great.)

I think they're worried that without LYA's star power they won't be able to draw viewers in. Doing a spin-off is almost a sure disaster (see Full House 2) so it's risky. Actually, doing a sequel is almost always a big big risk but MBC is not willing to give up on a potential DJG-like success so they'll take it.

If you make a drama called Full House 2, you don't need to have the cast members from the original drama. You can just have a house called Full House in the drama and bullshit you way into pretending this is a sequel to attract viewers.
It's the same thing they did with the movies Marrying the Mafia 2 or My Wife is a Gangster 3.They changed everything from the story to the characters but hey, as long at the title stay relevant who cares?

Now with Dae Jang Geum, if you want to make a Dae Jang Geum 2 you kinda need Jang Geum. Or else nobody will believe this is a continuation of the original drama.
I don't think Lee Young Ae is being courted for her star-power, they just need her to make an appearance on the show. That way they can call it a sequel and export it abroad for five times the price an other sageuk would be sold.

Hehehe. Did you see the SNL parody of Appa Odiga? ...theeeeeen you wouldn't need the same cast.

I'd settle for a four episode spoof that's heavy on meta and parody. Maybe on one of the cable channels - heck, even on You Tube - so it could be irreverently interesting.

Body: Usual story... The end.

ugh MBC, give up already and concentrate on ordering fresh, actually decent dramas please. Miss Korea was an underrated gem last year that probably suffered the most because of its competition at SBS, but I like Triangle so far.

This is never happening. At best they do it without her, which I'd like since then I can ignore it. In my mind she lived happily ever after with her hot hubby and kid saving people and kicking ass.

I still don't know why they don't just write a new drama for Lee Young-ae that is appealing enough to get her to come back to acting. Or just move on and concentrate on the dramas you have and instead of trying to relive your past glory, focus on making new classics. Crazy I know.

MBC is putting all their eggs into one basket for this sequel, even if it's been a decade since the original aired. No wonder LYA is being non-committal, despite them clearing their schedule to air this sequel...way too much pressure and money at stake, for this to replicate the ratings and glory it got the first time around.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of sequels. I thought DJG ended well, with her living with her hubby and kid...never really thought this needed a sequel in the first place.

The idea floating around about her being the "teacher" to the new generation of JGs also isn't really appealing, story-wise...DJG was DJG. That's that.

If LYA ultimately decides not to sign on, MBC is screwed. Just put out a new sageuk with a decent story, please.

I'm bitter about Unprecedented too even though they try to use the excuse that one of the potential leads was shooting a movie, but whatever. Just let this project go cause clearly LYA is not interested.

Ok I was never interest and won't be interested. But can someone just tell me the ending please? Just to know why there's so much hype. Thank you.

The headlines speak for themselves. LOL.
If LYA decides to sign tomorrow, I'm sure MBC more than willing to cut Triangle and air DJG2.

Can't LYA just straight up say "NO!" with a serious face? (or has she already done that?) It's always her reps making statements and not her.

Jeez, woman. Decide quickly. Its just a simple 'yes' or a 'no'. You're not thinking of world destruction/planning, right?

this whole saga is the drama itself?

LYA seems terribly undecided, which is understandable because it's her reputation on the line, and I'm sure she wouldn't want to tarnish our memory of the original drama if it turns out to be a flop and it's gonna be her come back project. And she sounds so sensible, saying she needs to have a well-co-ordinated whole package of script, director, production, editing etc. if it is ever to be a hit as DJG.

IMHO, I believe no sequel is better than a bad sequel, since a bad sequel just stomps all over my love for the original and gets all my hopes up for nothing, sending them crashing painfully down. Once bitten, twice shy. Let's just leave the masterpiece that is DJG as it is and move on.

They should not make a 2nd one because it's almost impossible for it to be as good and as popular as the first one. If they were going to make a second one then they should have made it years ago. Too much time has passed by.

Koreans have this... thing. JYP is refusing to let Wonder Girls go as well. WG in America drove his profits down and even though Sunye has clearly moved on, he's still hangin on to WG... Like I can't list all the other instances off the top of my head. But I guess Koreans are sentimental.
