Ryu Seung-ryong and Lee Sung-min team up in mystery war movie
by girlfriday
The Korean film industry seems to be taking it literally when people call Ryu Seung-ryong (Miracle in Cell No. 7) a hit-maker, because at this rate I’m pretty sure he’s about to star in every movie that gets made from here to eternity. If you kidnapped him, Ha Jung-woo, and Jung Jae-young, there might be no more movies, at least not any with badasses. I know, I know — is there any other kind?
Ryu Seung-ryong’s next project will be a period mystery called Guest, set in 1950 during the Korean War. It’s about a father and son who come to a secluded village, and the mysterious events that follow. Way to be mysterious about the mystery. Ryu Seung-ryong plays the stranger who arrives in the village with his son, a character described as sly and hypocritical.
Lee Sung-min (Miss Korea) will play the village chief who sets out to protect his small community. They keep describing the events that happen to the village people as “odd” and “mysterious,” so who knows what to expect. The setup sounds a little like the thriller version of Welcome to Dongmakgol, but I suppose the only real similarities are the time period and the secluded village.
The production company behind Elegant Lie and Wandeuki (Punch) is at the helm, with a rookie director. Mostly I’m excited about these two actors sharing the big screen. What fun. Guest starts shooting next month for a release next year.

Both wonderful actors who bring a lot more to the table than just good acting. I can't say I'm terribly interested by the premise, but hopefully this pairing will create some major movie magic.

Anything with Ryu Seung-ryong in it is a treat whether he is playing the hero or the villain.
Hope the writer is not another rookie.

A K-drama/K-movie world with no Ryu Seung-ryong, Ha Jung Woo and Jung Jae-young would not be a world I would want to live in :(

I am glad they are in a project together. They are two of my favorite actors. RSR was quite funny in 7 Level (the movie), and I loved his performance in Personal Taste. I really loved LSM in TK2Hs. I felt so sad when his character died. The plot sounds interesting as well.
