Ryu Seung-ryong headlines Point Blank remake
by girlfriday
Hot-streak star (and just plain hot man) Ryu Seung-ryong has lined up his next project — he’ll be headlining a remake of the French film Point Blank (À bout portant), helmed by the director of Phungsan Dog, Jung Jae-hong. It’s a twisty action thriller about a criminal who goes up against a network of dirty cops out to kill him, and the innocent bystanders who get taken as hostages in the crossfire.
The 2010 French thriller was directed by Fred Cavayé, and starred Gilles Lellouche as a nurse who saves a guy and inadvertently gets drawn into his manhunt, and Roschdy Zem as the thief he saves. Ryu Seung-ryong will play the criminal that’s being hunted by hitmen, a crime organization, and crooked cops… so pretty much everyone under the sun. And when a nurse and his pregnant wife happen to save him from one assassination attempt while he’s lying in a hospital bed, they’ll be targeted as hostages to draw him out. I haven’t seen the original, but it sounds like an action-packed plot with twists and multiple reversals and a heavy noir bent. (If you’ve seen it and it’s worth checking out, let me know!)
In any case, I’m always looking forward to a badass Ryu Seung-ryong. I’ve seen this guy do everything from comedy (The Gift of Room 7, All About My Wife) to drama (Gwanghae, The Man Who Became King) to action (he was so unbelievably frightening in Bow The Ultimate Weapon) that I don’t think there’s any genre he can’t handle. Plus with a box office rap sheet like his over the last two years, the sky’s the limit.
Point Blank is still casting and plans to start shooting this year.

Man I saw Point Blank and I immediately thought of the wrong movie. I though Grosse Pointe Blank. If they did a remake of that I would be extremely happy. This sounds good though.

I totally thought the same thing as well, and got super excited. I'm a little disappointed now, but I guess this movie doesn't sound too bad. Sigh.

I saw the original and highly recommend it, if you like action thrillers. It will be interesting to see this remake.

Isn't Ahjussi with Won Bin a kinda remake of Leon?
I'm not that familiar with French crime films, except Diva and Leon, though Diva might not be considered a crime..whatever.
I do love RSR.

everything is a remake of a remake doesn't mean it's exactly the same. asdfdsalfjkdsa;lfkjdsal;fjdsa;lfkjds

I think not. Leon 'inspired' a few 'hommages' like the cactus etc., but the story in general differs a lot.

I just read about the movie and it seems it will be action packed. I wonder who will play as Samuel, the nurse-aide who helped him. Why not a reunion of cast of Gift of Room 7? they are all badass action stars =)

He was amazing in Bow and then totally lovable in All about my wife. Heck! I even watched his ramen cf over and over, so definitely on board with this movie.

Roschdy Zem s one fine actor. And there's Lanvin. The mere sound of his voice makes me shiver.
How comes I did not see this movie?!
Oh yeah... "Studies"...
Gonna watch it, and confirm or not the "putain de chef-d'œuvre" of Mia :D

My favorite Korean ahjussi! Not based on what I saw of him in Personal Taste, All about My wife, Painter of the Wind, Hwang Jin Yi, Joseon X-files, etc., but based on the Namja Ramen CF. How can anyone be so Hilarious and Sexy at the same time? Now I've to go and rewatch his films and dramas.

It's too bad we hardly see Korea's best on television. Ryu Seung-ryong is one hell of an actor. I have no doubt that this movie will be a hit.

Amazing year for him! He even won the Daesang at this year Baesang Award. Well deserved!
The Gift of Room 7 was so close on beating The Thieves record at the box office, only around 100,000 short! I have seen The Thieves and I'm still surprised that it made that much money. It's fun, but not that fun.
