Dae Jang Geum watch: Lee Young-ae still undecided on sequel
by javabeans
Sooo… remember when it was announced that Lee Young-ae had agreed to reprise her famous Jang-geum role in sequel drama Dae Jang Geum 2? FUNNY STORY…
Lee Young-ae recently gave a television interview with a Chinese broadcast outlet wherein she said that she hasn’t quite decided yet. Way to jump the gun, everybody-who-jumped-the-gun-and-announced-she-was-in.
In her words: “Knowing that people are still very interested in Dae Jang Geum in China to this day gives me a happy and rewarding feeling. Because it was so beloved, I feel quite a lot of pressure. In order for a good Season 1 to have been possible, the writer, director, music, and other conditions had to all work well together, which is why I am deliberating the prospect very carefully. I haven’t been able to make the decision yet.”
According to Lee’s representatives, she received the synopsis with writer Kim Young-yun outlining the new story with Jang-geum in the role of the teacher, this time, rather than the student. And despite reports that the schedule was fixed(ish), according to them MBC has not yet confirmed the schedule for Dae Jang Geum 2. They are still hoping for an October broadcast.

With the length of time this has been going on, playing the drinking game will get me labelled as an alcoholic ;)

I think they just need to stick a fork in it and do a SNL-type 20.5 episode knockoff, that's a giant and amply cross-dressed mash-up of spoofs, parodies, tropes, genres and meta.

I have discovered that "undecided" is a korean word that means I am in but still negotiating.
I know of no actor in my experience that said they were undecided for a project and did not end up doing such project. But I have only been following drama since 2008 so it is not that long.

Actually, just this year Kang Ji-hwan was undecided for Golden Cross and ended up doing Big Man instead...

Yeah actually this happens quite a lot. Leaks and all as well as scripts being sent to many actors/actresses at once.

This whole concept is such a bad idea. That drama made her an icon in Asia. And why she would risk tainting that to do a sequel is beyond me. She should just chose another role in an unrelated drama. If #2 sucks, and really with all this wishy washiness how could it not, then she takes that thing that made her famous and ruins it.
They need to let go of this idea. It's just bad. The already told her story. Like the song says, LET IT GO, MBC!

Honestly would rather not have this happen. Hoping it doesn't and all the news about it finally goes away, the first one was a pioneering sageuk but they have all improved so much since then

To me, unless Ji Jin Hee is involved with the story, I'm not interested. Yes, Part I was awesome....but does not necessarily translate into Part II.

Honestly I would like to see DJG2. But seeing how MBC handles it, I'd rather it would never air, than in a mess.
MBC please, don't ruin your drama!
Do Empress Ki season 2 instead when I could watch SN as Empress in whole drama, not just for 2 eps.

Sageuks don't need season 2. There is nothing left to tell after 40 to 50+ episodes. They have accomplished the impossible and that is what made their journey interesting.

Meh. This is getting silly. I've decided if I want to watch a different version of "A Jewel in the Palace" I'll just load the whole 54 episodes into my DVD player, set the dial to "shuffle," and create my own.

A couple years ago when I first heard the news made me excited but MBC's obsession with this project for 10yrs now and counting is completely insane. I wish they'd just stop already.

Don't spoil it with a sequel for me. DaeJangGeum had a complete storyline. I don't see why they are even thinking of one.
