Big Man gets a two-week delay

With all the stations readying its new crop of shows for launch, KBS has decided it would rather push back the premiere of Big Man, the chaebol-stole-my-heart-and-not-in-a-good-way melodrama that was set to take over Full Sun’s soon-to-be-vacated Monday-Tuesday timeslot.
So rather than starting at a disadvantage against MBC’s sageuk smash Empress Ki and SBS’s suspenseful thriller God’s Gift – 14 Days, it has decided to wait it out until those shows end. (Fyi, Full Sun is currently getting pummeled in the ratings in that slot — it’s dipped into the 2% range — and has even lost out to a cable show, JTBC’s Secret Love Affair, which is on track to netting double that.) Although maybe somebody over at KBS did some bad math because Big Man’s premiere actually goes up against Empress Ki’s finale. Maybe they figured one week of being crushed was better than ALL the weeks of being crushed?
This move puts the premiere of Big Man on April 28, when it’ll go up against a more level playing field — the “medical-spy thriller” Doctor Stranger will premiere on the same day. For the two weeks in the interim, KBS will broadcast the rerun of a four-episode Drama Special, Her Perfect Day.
I am trying to look at this news in a positive way and not a pessimistic one, because I really don’t want to think of Big Man as a terrible drama before it even has a chance to prove that it is. I mean isn’t! It could totally prove it isn’t bad! There goes that darned pessimism again. But maybe this will be a good thing for Big Man? It has more time to polish up and get really good? Yes?

Agree, and the style too...this perm-dyed/style is getting trendy in Korean dramas to show the "before" life of a character it seems...

For a change KBS is really thinking hard on how to pull their shows in the rating line. Currently I am watching "Full Sun" and it is doing a fine job in the acting dept; it is just that at certain points the drama has the cliche of sub plots.
Of course "Empress Ki" has their dedicated fan following and it's been a while since MBC has had a decent line up of programs but maybe KBS really has thought this out well, ain't it?

Unless they actually change the story line - which they can't - I see no way for this to be even remotely decent. The plot is so far fetched and roll-my-eyes lame. The thing is, if your premise sucks, then most people even won't tune in to give it a chance.
It would've been so much smarter if they delayed it by three weeks (like really, they already pushed it back 2 weeks anyway, what huge difference would a week make?) I'm sure Doctor Stranger would delay too. Why go against EK when they can go against Triangle?

It would probably be better if they postponed by a few years, but too late now I suppose.
This reminds me a bit of some Taiwan drama of a few years back, where some surrogate mother had twins, gave one away to the chaebol type family, she grows up and almost gets murdered, gets plastic surgery, then her twin sister shows up.. well, you get the idea. I never finished it so don't know how it ended.

So far none of the upcoming shows look really interesting, it is almost like the summer season shows have reverted back to the old makjang-meko-cliche playbook.

I hate to say this as a fan of Kang Ji Hwan, but SBS's You're All Surrounded has a lot of promise. First, it has an awesome screenwriter, and Cha Seung Won.

It could be, but from reading the synopsis I kind of got the impression that it was going to be some slapstick show about idiot cops. Like most shows, I will watch the first two or four episodes, but the season is looking a bit bleak overall.

Sorry, I only saw LSG as himself in Grandpas Over Flowers. He doesn't appeal so much to my age demographic. I guess you could call me an ajumma-to-be. Cha does it for me, though. Cha's like an older version of Kang Ji Hwan. They have similar qualities as actors. On a side note, I'd LOVE to see these two talented hunks acting TOGETHER in the most epic BROMANCE ever.

Um, not really off-topic. Dramas go against each other no matter what day of the week, as long as they air in the same season and same time, you are competing against one another. Some people might choose to stay up to watch only one late night drama per week. Would you stay up till 12 am every weeknight when you have to get up early next morning? No. You'll choose the one drama you're most interested in. And it'll probably be a mid-week drama, not Monday and Tuesday nights. It's about viewer psychology, my friend.

After all ratings is the only things that count right??3 major networks go against each other for their prime time dramas

It would be so much smarter if they changed the plot line to one in which the guy is adopted because they need his blood to revive the secretly preserved body of Ghengis Khan, whose military genius will be needed to defend Asia against hordes of alien centaurs currently rising from suspended animation in melting Siberian permafrost, as global warming destroys our modern industrial civilization and, until we can raise enough horses, our only viable cavalry units will consist of Korean idol girl singers riding piggy-back on Saguek-trained Korean actors.

Big Man might not have the best screenplay (sigh), but it sure has one of Korea's most talented actors as male lead ;) A crappy script is surely worth being Kang Ji Hwan's leading lady :)

Yes!!! 2 weeks are more than enough to change the plot... I mean, they can do it in between shooting episode x and writing for episode y, of course they can write an entire premise in 2 weeks~
quick... gather all the newbie writers from all the writing competitions and brainstorm a new (believable realistic) ideas and we.are.save.
