Kim Yoo-jung, Seo Joon-young reunite in drama special
by girlfriday
There are always too many drama specials that go by each year to keep up with all of them, but I’m definitely going to tune in for this one. It’s a sageuk one-act short for KBS’s 2014 Drama Special series called Funeral Singer, and Kim Yoo-jung (Gold Rainbow) is headlining. She’ll be reuniting with Seo Joon-young (Unemployed Romance) four years after they were both in Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child. I really adore them both so I’m excited to see them in something new, even if one hour is way too short.
The drama special comes from PD Lee Eun-jin of Anticipate Love and Don’t Worry I’m A Ghost, and is scripted by a newbie writer. It tells the story of a young girl who was born into a family of funeral singers in the Joseon era (they’re the people who wail the sorrowful song in the funeral procession through town for noblemen’s deaths). That makes her a slave by birth, and also fated to become a funeral singer like her mother and grandmother before her.
Seo Joon-young will play a nobleman’s illegitimate son, whose mother is a gisaeng. The drama will be about the heroine’s resistance against her predestined life, which sounds like a great setup and character arc, and makes me wish all the more it had a few more episodes. It starts shooting this week, and meanwhile Kim Yoo-jung has one movie in the can and is slated to star in a horror mystery short film in the U.S. called Room 731, opposite Tim Kang (The Mentalist). That one is due out in July.
Funeral Singer airs mid-March on KBS.

Wait.... he is the Grand Prince in the Deep Rooted Tree. I remember crying so hard when he died. Of course Han Suk Gyu too.
This plot like Deep Rooted Tree a bit in regards of KYJ character or maybe I mix up with 194898x saguek drama out there.
Another saguek again for KYJ. I want to see her wearing pretty dress, skirt and what not.
Brb watching Powerful Opponent with her HOT daddy on-screen.

Of all the deaths in TWDR (and boy were there deaths) his moved me the most. He had a small role but made a big impact. He's been turning out underrated but impressive performances for years. What must we do to get him the lead in a full-length drama? Tell us and we'll do it Dramaland! We'll do it!
She's a doll--such grace for one so young. Am I the only one who has this unrelenting desire for her and Yoo Jin-Goo to re-uinite as the leads in a drama in like 5 years when they're both adults? I'll be patient, just please say yes!

This is great news, the story sounds really interesting and I'm glad that KYJ is actively trying different kinds of roles.
And all this when she's only 14 - if she stays on track, she could well become the next Jeon Ji-hyun (I feel like they look a bit alike, if someone cast her as a younger version of JJH I would totally buy it)

it is definitely time for her to try out a full character instead of "younger versions" which always seem like half a character. too bad it is just one episode.

Seo Joon-young was in Gumiho? I'm drawing a blank, I totally don't remember him. Then again, there's a lot about that drama that I don't remember. Anyway, this sounds great, hopefully it will be on KBS's YouTube channel.

i think he played chun woo. Remember the mute character that was very protective of yeon yi and her mother. He was sooo hot in this drama. :D

yeah, if she's this cute at what is usually an awkward age, she'll probably be absolutely gorgeous in her twenties.

Just 1 episode drama special? Not enough KBS. Make it 4 please, like Sirius. Now that Yoojung-ie & SJY reunite, how about Kim Yoojung&Yeo Jin Gu?
p/s: Everytime I see Kim Yoo Jung, Yeo Jin Gu & Seo Shin Ae, I'll realise I'm old TT_TT
She was such a cute talented kid in Illjimae

She's so cute. I can't believe she's only 14, girl's got talent coming out of her ears. They should totally pair her with Yeo Job-hunt again. He's already done like 2 dramas opposite his other co-star Kim So-hyun.

Love this girl! She's amazing, and will just grow as an actress. I have high hopes for her, and wish her well. I'm impressed she's doing a short film in the U.S. with Tim Kang. I love his character on The Mentalist!
I don't usually watch KBS drama specials, but I do like them, as long as they're not depressing. At least KBS puts them on YouTube now.
I liked Seo Joon-young in Unemployed Romance, too. I'll be looking forward to this!
