The romance revs up for I Need Romance 3

The next teaser is out for tvN’s third installment in their successful rom-com franchise, I Need Romance 3, and it gives us a better look at our heroine, Kim So-yeon.

Though the franchise’s conceit offers rather loose paramters (thirtysomething careerwomen in Seoul), the first two seasons [uh, SPOILERS for Seasons 1-2?] have both featured long-term couples who break up, after which the heroine dates a new love interest, but then reconciles with the original boyfriend after learning a little something about herself and what went wrong the first time.

So I am intrigued that Season 3 appears to be departing from that formula, in that the teaser shows Kim So-yeon being dumped by her longtime boyfriend (Alex), while the new guy (Sung Joon) is set up to be the main love interest. I just really, really hope there’s no switcheroo down the line, because I don’t wanna be burned! Plus it’s a way to freshen up the series, since I know the new boyfriends were crowd favorites in both previous shows and it’ll be great to get a whole series to explore that dynamic.

After the dumping, the heroine goes out with her home-shopping-network co-workers (girlfriends Yoon Seung-ah and Park Hyo-joo, as well as Park Yoo-hwan) and looks at our hero with interest, only to be introduced by a professional rival, whom she pointedly corrects: “We’re not friends. You should get your words straight.” Looks like there may be a romantic rivalry brewing as well.

The teaser ends with Kim So-yeon asking Sung Joon coyly, “Are you hitting on me right now?” He replies, “If I am, would you fall for it?” Mrawr.

The second video clip is from the drama’s poster shoots. (The couple looks pretty damn adorable.) I Need Romance 3 premieres on January 13, airing Mondays and Tuesdays on tvN.

Can't wait!! I started to like (and hated) Kim So Yeon since All About Eve, which was 13 years ago! She's gorgeous and good actress, and finally, a rom com...with Sung Joon! SJ is effortlessly cool, and I love his acting.

damn... this looks like it will be goooood ~

Initially wasn't going to watch it again - burned me twice already (!!) - but since Kim Soyeon is in it will probably give it a try. They will change it up a bit right? I mean even the trailer is more centered on Sung Joon's character (they were even at the MAMAs together in Nov!!), so that means his character must be the one, right? RIGHT? not that i'm grasping at straws or anything...

In second season (spoiler!!) I thought the girl would not go back to ex-bf because they would change a bit from season 1, a new ending, and they even showed us the girl seemily falling in love with second guy. I was almost sure she would end up with him... but didn't. Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh I was so frustrated.. burned like DB said. So I'm afraid of shipping KSY and SJ character... and she goes back to jerk ex-bf.

They wouldn't... right???

Don`t worry about the ex. Alex who plays her ex boyfriend is doing only a cameo. Our heroine will have to choose between two new guys. In a way they both are not that new. Hahaha. She knows them. Her childhood friend, SJ`s character and her boss and mentor, NGM`s character. This season we`ll see our heroine falling in love with the protagonist. I am sure that noona romance will be the front and center of the story.

oh, i thought it would premiere next week, so , yeah, i'm quite disappointed...
and a little off topic now, i read that this weekend the new sageuk Jung Do-Jeon would premiere on KBS, but this drama seems to have zero promotion, so i don't know anymore...it's not even listed here, could someone tell me if indeed it will air this saturday?

I watched the first season of I Need Romance and really enjoyed it - but am I the only person who was satisfied with that ending?

I am with you. The ending absolutely made sense.
Many viewers seem to be blinded by the second guy's abs and don't notice that he basically demanded his sweetheart to have a personality transplant because being herself she wasn't qualified to be his wife. What was redeeming about the first guy (who did have his share of shame to bear, sure), was the fact that he accepted the heroine with her good and bad traits, as the person that she really was.

1st Season - I adored the leading lady's set of best friends & depised her final choice. The second lead actor had potential but they decided to change him into a chaebol wuss.

2nd Season - Amped up romance to the max! This time I was happy with the ending, but her best friends were bland.

3rd Season - I can't wait! and yes a guy is finally part of the crew :) I'm more excited about that than anything else!

2nd season-- I still can't get over the fact that she went back to her first, though I kinda understand how he's pretty much the only "family" she's got left. But the 2nd guy was too good, too good to be true...

I was satisfied with it. I think in the end she made the right choice for herself. She wasn't over him and even though it would have been great if she could have moved on from both guys--I think that at least the ending made it seem like the relationship would be better the third time around with both legs of the relationship a little wiser on the other.

I think many people didn't like it because it's not the choice they would have made. It's not mine, either but it didn't stop me from enjoying the show, haaha.

So it's a noona romance, how disappointing. I know there are plenty of 30 something actors they could get. Why must they continue to pair young men with older women? It's getting very boring and predictable.

lol I can honestly say if we were to stack up the amount of Noona romances against the amount of Oppa Romances or even against the amount of Dong Gab Romances, they would barely make a dent in the latters' numbers.

I agree!

While I have nothing against so-called noona romances (and generally not a big fan of age gaps regardless of the pairing), most younger man/older woman relationships fail in real life ... for obvious reasons. For more so than older man/younger woman. I prefer to watch shows where I can fully believe in the romance, and not just the fantasy of having some hot stud lust after an older woman.

I'm reallyyy hoping that INR3 will break from precedent (1&2)...because I honestly liked the new guys much better than the exes x/ I'm already anticipating this because of Sung Joon and Kim So Yeon...please don't break Sung Joon's heart!!!

Excited for this! I wasn't much of a fan of New Boyfriend #1 (even though it was Choi Jun Hyuk and he is very great) but I really enjoyed New Boyfriend #2 (I wish Kim Ji Sook was in more things!!).

I like that this one seems to be differing from the formula of the other two in what seems like a nice change up and I get to see Sung Joon charm the pants off of an older woman (probably literally)--YAY Kim So Yeon in a romcom !! Win win, in my opinion!

So excited for this! I'm just in a rom-com mood, but there seems to be a lack of it in dramaland these days. I love the main actors, and this series, while formulaic at times, is very enjoyable to me. (And truth be told, I especially love that it's cable and that it's 45 minutes long (it better be!))

I saw this teaser like last week but I didn't think that the main girl was Kim So-Hyun.
How did she grow her hair so fast .-.
But I think I prefer her short hair..

I have mostly only seen KSY in hardcore character roles like in Iris, Two Weeks. Seeing her in a rom-com and looking all smiling, very cute and gorgeous is weird but alot of fun.

I cant wait to see her in this kind of role and Sung Joon is a promising young actor who deserves the lead. Hope he is part of the OTP.

I agree, even though I LOVE Alex and he is my Bias, I want her to stay with SJ. Except for season 1, I was glad she went back to her boyfriend. S1 she should have dumped him good. S2 he was such a good guy, they both were. But here i really want her with SJ. I can't wait to see this.
