Suspicious posters for Suspicious Housekeeper
by javabeans
SBS’s Suspicious Housekeeper has whipped up some nice promo posters for the drama set to premiere in another week, which I’m happy about since drama posters so often underwhelm. Choi Ji-woo plays the housekeeper who begins working with a family after the mother dies and helps heal their emotional wounds, though there’s a little something strange about her mysterious persona.
I’d say the posters hit just the right note of, well, suspiciousness — Choi Ji-woo looks like someone you ought to be wary of, but the family isn’t without its own eeriness. We’re not quite in Addams Family territory, but I like the sterile, odd vibe that the composition evokes. Okay, maybe Choi Ji-woo’s shots could have made the housekeeper look a little less like a stalker/criminal, but overall the effect works.
The tagline in the top two posters read, “I’ll do any work you request. I am housekeeper Park Bok-nyeo.” In the bottom poster, it says, “A suspicious housekeeper has appeared in front of this family in crisis!”
Suspicious Housekeeper premieres on Monday, September 23.

I like the effect and the vibe of a completely white (READ: pure, clean, innocent) setting and the wardrobe of each of the characters with the hints of black :)

I'll try to watch this since I already watched the japanese version. I must say that I am not a fan of Choi Ji Woo but I like the other actors enough to try it. Hope it will be good.

Whe Choi Ji Woo wore that look on 'Running Man' they said she looked like a vacationer on a week-end trip from Seoul, out to get her morning oatmeal. Apparently it worked so well for her she decided to use it for her new series.

I would say that the "suspicious look" on the poster (and in most k-dramas) is about as cliché as you can get. :D

I think I'm so used to sponsors/product placements that I know look at the logos to see if the characters will end up in cafés, at international fastfoods or some national (or Asian?) chicken restaurants. "Donut" place it is for this time!
I think the posters keep the feeling the jdrama had ('cause the housekeeper tended to be creepy). Let's see if the show is the same or if it adds too many kdrama stuff that spoils the plot.
I just can't get my head around the table in the last poster: something's weird about it (and not just because the plates are empty), like it's curved or something.

Yeah, the posters are really well done when giving that creepy vibe. I agree about that table. I spent a good minute staring at it, trying to figure out if it was straight or curved or if my eyes were playing tricks on me.

Yeah, I was looking at these yesterday thinking--wow, these re cool. The second one reminds me of one of the posters for Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (actually come to think of it one of the posters for Master's Sun does, too--I wonder if someone out there has been watching Park Chan Wook movies, lol).
Looks cool--makes me interested in the show, definitely.

she is dressed EXACTLY the same as in the original. I am curious how they handle this show because the original is super dark in tone, in a really Japanese kind of way. I don't know how this will hold up in a Korean 2 eps a week format in a market that is so ratings sensitive. It's totally an "all or nothing" kind of show, so if they start trying to tweak the story midway it's gonna be a mess.

Yeah, the Choi Ji-woo posters look exactly the same as the j-dorama. I like the family poster. I think that's an original (as in the j-dorama doesn't have it).
The “I’ll do any work you request." tag line is quite literal, you know. She'll do anything (really, anything), as long as it's a work order.

Yep, even the dressing is similar to the role played in the J-drama. However, in terms of eeriness, I don't know how much it will succeed. Maybe they might change some of the storylines concerning the family members as it is for ages 15 and above.

Yeah, the main point of the j-drama was that she was soooo extreme, you were hooked waiting for her next move, and then laughing or crying or getting scared, haha!! and in the end it was hearthwarming after all.
I'm curious to see which tone they are seeking in this version...it doesn't seem that a change in the characters will benefit the story.

Let's hope she's just mysterious and there's no evil to her character. Right now the written description reminds me of Mrs. Danvers, the scary housekeeper in the Gothic film, Rebecca.

Yeah. So what's in the valise, Park Bok Nyeo? Hmmm....
That second poster is almost chilling, actually. It's so...stark.
There's a bleakness to the white, white dinner table so devoid of prerequisite nourishment. And the identically sterile expression on each and every face... I do have to say though, that my interest is peaked.

I've decided to watch the Japanese version and will probably watch this version too. I recently did that with Queen's Classroom. While the K version was well done, the J version was defiantly darker in tone.

that's what I did. I watched the first few eps when the Japanese version came out, but lost track of the story. I just went back this week and watched the rest of it. The last 1/3rd goes to a really dark place. It's pretty good, but is a bit disturbing.

I hope they make some references to the sound the music. I'd like this drama to be like that movie, I just love it. But actually, i don't think it will be like that, the characters don't look naive and cheerful as in that movie. Is this a suspense drama? It seems to be...

I will keep an open mind. the Japanese version was really good, but I think and hope that kdrama writers will do something different with it. So far, the wardrobe of Mita is exactly the same. Funny how people are already starting to criticize her outfit before they know the character, typical appearance=everything response.
I'm really looking forward to Kim So-hyun performance as the eldest daughter. The jdrama one was written to be very one-dimensional and trope-y. I think she'll bring more depth to this character than the one in the Japanese version.
