So Yi-hyun to play Jeon Ji-hyun’s rival in Man From Another Star

It looks like So Yi-hyun is back to second lead territory after headlining recent cable ghost-seeing drama Who Are You. She’s been cast as the rival and frenemy to Jeon Ji-hyun in her new alien time travel fusion rom-com Man From Another Star, starring Kim Soo-hyun as the alien. Because yunno, those looks aren’t from Earth. There’s a little more character information too, which makes me look forward to the show. But who’re we kidding. You had me at aliens and Kim Soo-hyun.
The new rom-com from the writer of hit weekend drama You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly and the PD of Tree With Deep Roots stars Kim Soo-hyun as an alien who crash lands on Earth in 1609 Joseon (the first year of King Gwanghae’s reign), in a flying object that makes it into the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. Ha. He remains in Joseon for the next four hundred years until the present day, where he’ll meet Jeon Ji-hyun’s character, an actress described as a “supremely rude Hallyu goddess.” Hee, I think I’m going to like her. It sounds like it has all the setups of a noona romance, except for the part where he’s (at least) a dozen times her age.
So Yi-hyun will play Jeon Ji-hyun’s frenemy since junior high, a Harvard graduate announcer from a family of prominent lawyers. She’s never lost first place a single day in her life when it came to her schoolwork, but she has one complex in life: being less pretty than Jeon Ji-hyun and losing her first love to him when they were teenagers. It sounds petty in a fun way, since I’m anticipating wacky alien rom-com hijinks, not dark backstabby rivalries. Kim Soo-hyun should just do like the Vampire Idol boys did and bring a whole posse of alien pretty boys with him from his planet. Then the girls could just share.
Man From Another Star follows Heirs and premieres in December on SBS.

I agree, the special effects in GFB were not good, at least after the 1st two episodes. They were not impressive at all.

Hey! Gu Family Book effects are great from beginning to the last. It is impressive. I think it's better not to compare the two series because they have there own story plot and different cast.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I to mine. I didn't think the special effects in GFB were good (at least after the first two ep.), though you think otherwise, which is OK.
Also, I was actually not comparing the two dramas, plot-wise, only making a comment about the special effects in GFB. I am waiting to watch MFAS to see how it fares, really.

It's better not to compare the two because the story is depend on how the cast move into character. Not the effect or anything. Gu Family Book is a great story and actors delivered the story well. Let's see first the show (Man from another star) before we react.

I hope the writing will be less sloppy and full of dropped threads than GFB too, at least this time we have the added bonus of a leading lady who doesn't have a completely vacant default expression.

She was pretty likeable in Who are you?But I am not a huge fan of her second lead roles :/ And I am one of those few who think Jeon Ji Hyun is a teeny weeny bit overrated (don't hate me!) But Mr Young bundle of talent and hotness is going to be there in it, so this goes on my list.

I think Kim Soo-hyun is a wee bit overrated too, but I'll still give it a try - it sounds interesting and I love the possibility of a frenemies relationship for heroine and second lead (like I Hear Your Voice maybe?)

That would be nice. In fact I have noticed that, of late the second lead actresses are not always in the one dimensional bitchy category(although those specimens still exist). Even THE Hong sisters who are famous for making their second leads snarky have toned it down in Master's Sun. I really hope this continues.

I like her in Sunshine Girl, Who are You and Heartstrings, haven't watched any drama where she was casted as bit*hy second leads which people would like to slap since I'm not a fan of those drama in the first place regardless the casts.
I hope her character here would be likeable eventhough only second lead. Many dramas have awesome second leads too recently. :)

If ghostie oppa proved 1 thing, it's that sometimes you can steal the thunder as the second lead. I like that actress and at first sight, I like her character better too...
I personally am a bit tired of love triangles & wouldn't mind 2 distinct love lines (you need a co-pilot in those ships, right?).
Let's hope it's a real rom-com and not a sweet and sour kind of story.

Kim Soo-Hyun alone is more than enough reason for me to watch it, plus the writer of a hit weekend drama You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly is really a good one too.
They should add Lee Hee Joon (YWRIU) for the funny to pester So Yi-hyun lol! He's such a cute big puppy.

i suspect this character to behave like Yi-ryung in Master's Sun. Though, I'd really love for her to be more of a Seo Do Yeon. I doubt she can pull it off though. She always has this deer-in-the-headlights look.

OOh..I am liking the wacky plot. Please bring on the funny and reduce the tears. I kinda liked Rooftop Prince funny moments a lot. What hindered the drama was the unlogical revenge/villain scenes. Always felt like skipping those.

I'm excited for this. I've become a So Yi-hyun's fan since Alice in Cheongdamdong and definitely with Who Are You. Her acting has improved so much since Gloria and Heartstrings.
She has been such a slow burn actress for me. At first I was annoyed by her, but she has grown so much and won me over.
