Main poster released for time travel drama Nine
by girlfriday
The poster for tvN’s new time traveling drama Nine is out, and I have to say, it isn’t exactly the most inspired. But maybe there’s still a chance they’ll go back in time to make it better? What do you mean you don’t want to waste a precious time slip trip for that? At least the trailers were more visually interesting, though overall the poster maintains the same air of mystery.
The new fantasy melodrama from the creators of last year’s hit time traveling drama Queen Inhyun’s Man stars Lee Jin-wook and Jo Yoon-hee as a pair of reporters, and this time both leads are from the same era. Something tragic happens to Lee Jin-wook’s family, so he gets the chance to travel back in time to avenge them, and at the same time recover his love — it’s still unclear whether she’s dead, missing, or just a break-up he regrets, but I’m guessing the mysteries are intertwined.
He has a limited number of trips to the past (hence the title), to try and pinpoint the right moment to go back and change. I do like the idea of searching for that ground zero of causation — the one tiny choice that begat another that begat another… It’s sort of like How I Met Your Mother, but backwards and with way more tragedy. I’m happy for the mystery, but I hope that doesn’t mean we’re doing away with the sweeping romance, which is what made Inhyun stand out.
Nine premieres March 11 on tvN.

Me too! With the glut of time travel dramas in 2012, I refused to watch another. With the announcement of Nine, I was like I will NOT be tuning in, but it seems really interesting and it's a concept that is new. It sort of reminds me of Operation Proposal, and while I liked OP on an emotional level, there were some flaws there that it seems (at least on the surface) Nine can avoid.
I hope it's as good as its premise.

I have a good feeling about this one. The leads look really cute together as well. Although I know they said it wasn't going to be as romance-y as QIHM, I'm sure what romance there is will be swoon-worthy bc this writer obviously knows how to write palpable romance well. Liking how the whole avenging his family plot is tied to how he's going to get his lost love back too. That's bound to get complicated. Finger crossed! Nothing is really grabbing me atm in kdramaland. (I'm watching That Winter and FBND but everything is boring me to death tbh).

Same. After School 2013, I can't seem to get into any other dramas. That Winter looks really pretty and the cast is beautiful, but I can't connect with any of the characters on that show. I find every one of them annoying.

I forgot to mention that I kind of look forward to this show because I like the mystery surrounding it, tho it just looks like he's traveling back time to save his gf from being murdered. I hope there's more to that, or something entirely different.

So... He goes back in time to save his girlfriend from getting killed? Is that the story?

As I said before... this looks like "The Girl who Leapt Through Time".... but through Chiaki's perspective.
I really looked forward to this drama, when it was first announced. But the teasers and the poster leave me cold. So boring!
I really hope they'll prove me wrong and release an amazing drama.

Loved when you wrote this --> "I do like the idea of searching for that ground zero of causation — the one tiny choice that begat another that begat another…"
Such a human problem that really touches me and most folks.
So he'll have the girl he lost and the reporter? Wonder who he's meant to be with...and how his trip will affect his life or in some weird way his co-reporter. Am really liking the idea of this one.
Thanks for the post.

Maybe the girl he lost is the one who commits the murder - remember, he reads something he shouldn't? And perhaps he thinks if he had stayed by her side at that time she wouldn't have had to do something so terrible. He may not be going back to save his love per se, but more his love-r. Not to keep it going on into the present, but to save her from bad consequences.

I want this drama to be cute and heartwarming. I don't mind the poster, DB said that QIHM's poster was not interesting either but then the drama turned out to be great. :D

This looks like it's going to be an interesting, thought-provoking ride. I like the concept of finding that thread of causality - sometimes what we think is the root cause really isn't after all. I'm curious to see what the show does with that ^^

I still remember the tie kiss from QIHM till now. Daebak! I love her explanation of how a tie is used....and how he used to smile whenever he suspected she was lying about something (a modern invention/way of living etc) but still took whatever she gave [hmm..the kiss at library comes to mind too!] now I feel like rewatching the entire drama!
