Extensions for I Miss You, School
by girlfriday
Oh dramaland, you wouldn’t be you if you weren’t fickle and pulling last-minute changes left and right. We’ve got some extension news for dramas that were preempted for one reason or another, and now face ending a day short of normal broadcasting schedules. First: MBC’s Wednesday-Thursday melodrama I Miss You was originally planning to end with 20 episodes and a special to round out the count, but has decided to add an episode, with only two weeks left till the end of its run. Eep, there have certainly been closer shaves than a three-episode warning, but not many.
I Miss You’s ratings have run the full gamut, from Wednesday-Thursday leader all the way down to last place, so the extension is more about keeping ratings steady than anything, since an episode will bring in much higher ratings than a special with clips or interviews. An extra episode this late in the game is usually not a good thing as far as storytelling goes, but who knows — maybe they’ll feature a dream episode where it turns out the hero doesn’t get shot in the brains and doesn’t die alone in a cold empty warehouse? I suppose the one upside to such a dark flash-forward to open your show is that the audience’s expectations for happily ever after are set as low as “breathing” or “doesn’t bleed to death.”
KBS’s Monday-Tuesday drama School 2013 is also one episode off its count, and on the current schedule would end at 16 episodes on January 28. School has remained in second place in the ratings game, but its numbers have been going up steadily, and is giving The Horse Healer a run for its money on Mondays and Tuesdays. KBS and the producers are considering everything from a special to a 1-episode extension, to even 3 episodes as a possibility.
I’m torn about School, since I love, love, love the show. More heart-tugging bromance is something I’d never say no to, but I also don’t want the series to lag in any way. It’s going to kill me to say goodbye to that show, but I’d rather say goodbye when it’s awesome and not have to witness any decline in quality. If an extension is confirmed, we’ll have to work some collective rain dances of non-suckage.
I Miss You’s extension doesn’t change Level 7 Civil Servant’s premiere (January 23). School’s extension may push Ad Genius Lee Tae-baek a week or two behind, but that show doesn’t even have a confirmed cast yet, so I don’t think they’ll be crying about it anytime soon.

I'm fine with IMY's extension as long as it doesn't push Level 7's Premiere date!:)

Totally agree, I can't wait to see Joo Won and Choi Kang Hee in Level 7 and I'm ready for some laughs. All these melodramas have been bringing me down lately, so I'm ready for a good ol' rom-com!

I still haven't seen school 2013 yet so can't comment on its extension.. But i am glad that IMY was extended by just 1 epi... The dramas get really draggy if they extend it by 4 or 5 epis.. Plus i wanna see Joo Won's drama soon!! :D

Yeah, I agree with both xenna and UJ about these extensions. I think both dramas are good enough to handle another episode, but I'm glad they're not huge extensions.
School....I LOVE this drama. It seriously makes me laugh, cry, and want to throw things all in one episode.
IMY...I love Yoochun's character. The story's okay, but there are a few characters that just make it golden.

I have full confidence that the School 2013 extension is going to be just as awesome as all episodes have been so far.
They have done superbly so far, I can't see how the writer could mess up!
And if they do, I'll just stare at those two boys and the rest of the gang with the sound off.

Hm, first time I'm conflicted about an extension, since School is so freakin heart-tugging. And I guess one episode shouldn't make a difference (...Coffee Prince), nope, I don't want extensions.

me too. That's why MOST kdrama unravel towards the ending...because of all this, one extension? two? random plot? Ugh, I hate extensionssss!!!! And school 2013 has been so good... I love what gf said though, "we’ll have to work some collective rain dances of non-suckage."

More episodes of I Miss You means we get to see Harry aka Yoo Seung Ho longer....before he enters the army. So as long as it doesn't suffer too much from weird plot twists, I am fine with it.
"It’s going to kill me to say goodbye to that show, but I’d rather say goodbye when it’s awesome and not have to witness any decline in quality."
Totally agree with the above! But so far the writers have done an awesome job =D Maybe a one episode extension??!!! so that I can see more of Jong Suk+WooBin

Oooh, I forgot that show was going to get a special! I'm a little behind watching it, so I still have one episode left. I've really enjoyed the show so far.
Somehow, I've watched every single drama Sung Joon has been in, but in CWGM I really enjoy Kim Young Kwang. He was in White Christmas too, but I didn't like him much because he played his character too well, haha. He's a pretty good actor, I'm discovering.

I'm trusting the screenwriters of School so I'm trusting they would do well with the extension. Might take some extra episode to lead to normalization of everyone's life...and as long as stressed overachiever doesn't go into some weird meltdown and bully doesn't cause anyone's life to be too destroyed, i'm with it. Might give us the beginnings of a little romance to end the series...who knows?
Thanks for the news

Maybe the I Miss You extra episode will feature an hour long therapy session for all three main leads with an accredited doctor and/or therapist. And then they all get their lives together and move on from this mess. lol Bonus points if Harry runs away to France with Harry 2.0 in an unexpected, yet pleasant twist of wild romance and fierce longing.
lol
In other news...I'm torn about School tho cuz while I'm enjoying it immensely, I feel like Ha Kyung and Kang Joo have been shafted of late in screen time, plot, and character development. I know they axed the love lines but that doesn't mean the women in the story become useless. Though I am a bit mollified by episode 11, which had more of these two.
So, if they do have an extension, I hope they can give more meat to the female student characters instead of just focusing on Nam Soon and Heung Soo's (b)romance. The 'B' is optional. lol
Also I still want to know more about Kang Teach's past with that dead girl. They haven't revisited that plot line and I'm a bit annoyed by that.

It's not really an extra episode for IMY though, right, it's just replacing the one episode that they were CUT by pre-emption due to -was it election or holidays, can't remember.
I wish this was doing better in the ratings. It deserves it.

I don't know if it's just me, but I don't really find IMY to be as excessively dark as many people are saying - maybe it's a result of having come back to kdramaland after watching shows like Battlestar Galactica, The Wire and even Homeland, but IMY doesn't seem THAT much darker to me than Nice Guy
Sad, yes, tearjerking, yes, but excessively so? Maybe it's just my relative lack of melos watched that has me saying this, but I don't really think so.

Ditto for me... I was really enjoying School, but I think the bromance plot line is starting to really be drawn out more than I thought it would. I was disappointed when I heard the romance storyline was axed, but still hoping there would story lines focusing on other cast members equally. Maybe this extension will allow for the other plot lines to be expanded.
I'm not really a fan of extensions, but I guess I'd rather take an extension over a drama cut short due to low ratings. I can't stand rushed storytelling and loose ends.

I feel like Ha Kyung and Kang Joo have been shafted of late in screen time, plot, and character development.
This is what I feel, too - I hope the girls get some screentime and development too, it would be a shame if they didn't because they are awesome and I want to spend more time with them even if Nam-soon and Heung-soo are heart-tugging enough on their own.

One vote for the therapy session. I'll add the screenwriter to the patient list.
Or they could do a crossover ep with King of Dramas, reveal that the script was one of Lee Go Eun's rookie efforts, and get Anthony in to dish out some scathing and snide comments.

I'm waiting for school to finish so I can just marathon it in one sitting. I been reading the recaps & saw episodes 1 &2. I figure I might as well get all the crying done in one sitting. IMY I'm stuck on episode 8, don't know if I want to continue. But now I'm drama less with King of dramas & can we get married being over! I need something new to watch!!!

The only trouble I see for school is conflict with the likes of Jang Nara other work, that is work back in China, she has so many endorsement and the like running there that she already had to leave the set to do a quick fly back to China and return almost the same day. I do not think it would work out if they gave only a week notice like with I Miss You, but with three weeks notice she may be able to work out something that would allow her to remain in Korea for that extra two weeks. Of course one extra episode would not be as bad.

I almost blew a gasket when I read that IMY was getting an extension. I was worried it would push back when Level 7 Civil Servant would come out. It won't though so I'm happy :D
And if School gets an extension let's hope it doesn't suck. That show is rocking my world right now!

Drop IMY at ep 5 so that news doesn't affect me. I say, give them extension so all can have their final tears. Hehehehehe. Sorry but they cried so much...
On School, I am all for extending Woo Bin sexy sexy self on my TV but.... most of the times, if not all, extension = WTF nonsensical plots, so yeah... torn about it. However, if there is really an extension, hopefully everyone will have nice happy ending with a big bow and glitters cause I'm done with crying, really T_T

I guess the scriptwriter will revamp the ending for MY,
he or she can't "stomach" park yoo chun being shot in
the head, gruesome ending right ! for the idol, actor,
because his fans will go after the scriptwriter.
So instead the couple kiss and merry- go-

I like Yoo Chun but in IMY, I find the show too heavy and might as well forget about the extension. There is too much crying and everything seems so unreal. Geesh, I don't know. YSH acted well but YEH, not much to look at her expression. Not surprise at the ratings. Love School. Very refreshing. Just love both teachers Daniel and Jang Nara. Go, Go, extension.

IMY is big on red herrings so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Yoo Chun's headshot turns out to have merely grazed him and temporarily knocked him out.
I like it, but with only a few episodes left I think I can call YEH as being underused and not given a lot to work with. Her character had a ton of potential, she could have grown up tough and cold and badass as a result of her childhood. We saw a flash of that when she was being interrogated for the murder. But then she just goes back to being weak, clinging to Harry and then later clinging to Jung Woo.
She does get to wear some cool stuff though.

I think YEH's character is doing pretty ok right now, and made quite a few strides forward by reconnecting with her family, deciding to find Detective Kim's killer/standing up to Harry (finally!!) - she's not the girl she was in ep 5, and I'm pretty ok with her having been the way she was there, it fits in with her younger character and trauma on the scale she suffered doesn't always make a girl badass.

The only reason I would say yes to a School 2013 extension is because I feel somehow that other characters are being given the shaft, while the teachers and the boys take over the show. I want more with Ha-kyung, Kang-joo and the other students.

I'd like to see how IMY's Finale will be.. How things will be wrapped up, persay! saw in a preview of the upcoming show that Jung Woo..(Sad) might get shot?? It would be a shame to leave things unfinished! I know that the proverbial "Happily Ever After" probably won't get to happen(I can Wish tho) . But to see how the LOVE Triangle is dwindled down to 2. & to which 2 that will be???

eventhough, yoon eun hye is 8-9 years older than yoo seung ho, it's not even noticeable. they still look so well together. yoon eun hye is older than yooc hun of approx 2 yrs but it looks like yoochun is older than eun hye. so the drama, blends so well among the 3 lead actors. this drama shows so much emotion so, it shows how the actors act so well. it shows their ability to shine and shows their talent in different genre. so, congrats to the 3 lead actors YEH, YC, YSH and the 3 young ones who played the young YEH, YC and YSH.
