Im Soo-jung and Shin Ha-kyun consider new rom-com drama

There’s a new romantic comedy series in the works, and it’s courting some big stars back to dramaland. The project is called All About My Romance, and is currently trying to woo Shin Ha-kyun (Brain) and Im Soo-jung (All About My Wife) as its leads. From All About My Wife to All About My Romance? Great, I’ll never be able to remember which is which.

While Shin Ha-kyun has recently headlined the medical drama Brain, Im Soo-jung hasn’t been on the small screen since her debut on the fourth season of School, and then 2004’s I’m Sorry, I Love You. She has since stuck entirely to movies, so if she takes on the drama, it’ll be nine years since her last one.

The project will be helmed by the crew behind Protect the Boss — writer Kwon Ki-young and PD Sohn Jung-hyun, and will take place in the world of politics. It’s based on a novel of the same name, and the leads will play two congress members from opposing political parties who fall in love and have to figure out how to make it work. It’s described as “a world where romance is like politics and politics is like romance.” Sounds like a cheeky, combative workplace drama. Familiar territory, given the crew’s credits.

There’s probably no greater fodder for bickering hate and crackling banter than a pair of quick-witted politicians whose fundamental belief systems are opposed. The idea behind the drama is to take these two characters who are professionals when it comes to politics, and watch as they attempt to try and navigate dating in the same way. Yeah good luck with that.

They of course have to keep the romance a secret — Helloooo, scandal! Goodbye, constituency! — so at least they’ll be in cahoots there. I can’t imagine there’s going to be much this couple will agree on, but I suppose that’ll be the fun. Both actors are still “considering favorably,” but the outlook is promising.

All About My Romance plans to follow That Winter, The Wind Blows on SBS.

Cat and dog forbidden love against all odds. Also, all is fair in love and politics. Lol. Right up my alley!
Love the idea, love the prod team and like him: Didn't like Brain particularly but I thought he had that cheeky charm, perfect for a pure rom-com. Good news!

WOW 2013 looks to be the year to woo back the now-film stars back to dramaland. I say YAY to this. I hope this casting is confirmed!

(Pssst on slightly relevant note: is it true she is dating Gong Yoo? This rumor has been floating around since forever that I feel like there's got to be some truth to it...)

There was a story a few months ago that she and GY had secretly gotten married and someone found documentation that was, naturally, never released. I'm not sure what to make of it but as you say, there's no smoke without fire.

Nah if they had gotten married the scary knetizens would so be on that... and those guys are scary they would have probably even gotten the family registry. But since OMG I had never heard of this?!! I really have no concrete answer or reliable info.

I loved watching him in Brain. I hated watching him in Brain.
I remember feeling like his character was going EXPLODE in those first few episodes, and I remember thinking he totally deserved whatever kind of karmic punishment he got.

He projects tension like nobody I have ever seen act in ANY language. I actually put off watching the show because it made me so tense. Then I got sucked in like nobody's business, and I am so glad I did.

agree. I haven’t seen anyone act as intensely and realistic as SHK. He owned Brain. If that drama was just shown a few months later, then Park Shi Hoo (Princess Man) supposed to have won the Daesang Award.

Brain<3 Shin Hakyuns Lee Ganghoon was amazing! Absolutely keeeeled it! Ugh *slow exaggerated claps* he deserved that Daesang and then some, special mention to Jung JinYoung too!

Wow, the thought of politics and love reminds me of Belinda Stronach & Peter MacKay's romance from Canadian politics....which didn't end well for the couple, at all. On the other hand, dramaland politics may not be as fierce and merciless since this is a romantic comedy we are talking about. But on the other hand it is a drama, in which, drama is the name of the game. I shelfing this as something I will check out solely because of Im Soo-jung's return to the small screen.

Well, if we consider the background is politics. But in CH the problem was rather social/educational/lifestyle differences, rather than political views. But it was a good drama, indeed.

I'm thinking SHK in more three piece suits - OY!!!!!
Super fast dialog, not suffereing fools, passionate angry kisses.
Do it, people!!!!

Who is the second lead male? Some young pup?
Let's see...Ha Suk Jin!!! YES!

I've had that thought in the back of my mind for a while now (not to steal your thunder) but all rich people seem to be evil scheming lowlifes in Kdramaland so getting two wealthy but decent protagonists seems unlikely . I hate how there are so few business oriented Kdramas that actually try to address corporate culture instead of serving it up as window dressing for chaebol angst.

Indeed! I was thinking about a comedy/drama (not a K-drama, but rather a feature film) with protagonists who are mid-level managers from two competing corporations, a-la Duplicity. Maybe throw in an acquisition or two as well...

Plot doesn't sound interesting, but how different could a politics centered drama be? I will just have to trust that the plot will be executed in a refreshing way. I hope the duo behind the drama is able to make this drama fun for the whole ride. Protect the Boss started off fun, but became draggy and boring so fast and I never finished it.

I love Shin Ha Kyun and like Im Soo Jung. I have yet to watch MISA (yes, I know blasphemy! I'm just never in the mood to cry and rip my heart into pieces...yet), but I liked her in movies. These are excellent actors (SHK <3) so I am not too worried for them. Can't wait to see their chemistry!

Oh, this is fantastic on all levels. I LOVED PTB--it purposely avoided almost all of the typical annoying kdrama chliches, and the female lead character was written MUCH better than most other female romcom leads I've encountered.

So, so excited for this.

I never heard about SKY nor do I know who he was until Brain came along and playing with my 'brain' :). This guy surely knows how to capture people not for his look ,as he is not the candy eyes type or flower boy type, but simply because of his acting.
So yeah, seems I need to follow SBS for few months in the row in the near future (The Winter and this one).

If you didnt watch "I'm sorry, I love you", that means you missed so much thing. ıts still one of best drama that ever been done in Korea!
'm so happy she is turning back. Last year political drama Dae Mul was ratings winner. Next year a Rom-com drama with this cast can easily win over Dae Mul. I really missed good romantic comedy with real actors. After "Secret Garden" ıts hard to find good one. ISJ and SKY can easily fill this place.
