Have a little Faith

girlfriday: Stills galore for the fantasy fusion medical comedy historical romance action adventure time-bending drama that is Faith. (Did I miss anything?)

javabeans: Yes, epic and blockbuster and LEE MIN-HOOOOOOOOOOO.

girlfriday: Oh right. That. And apparently, looking at the new stills, some Lord of the Ringsy minions or brothers in arms or caped warriors, whatever they are.

javabeans: I do enjoy how the one dude has pointy ears.

girlfriday: Perhaps they’re interplanetary as well as time-bendy in this world.

javabeans: The entourage consists of Choi Yoon’s (Lee Min-ho) fellow warrior-bodyguards who serve the king, which includes, apparently, kidnapping doctors from future worlds. I do like how in the stills, they’ve mixed clothing on Kim Hee-sun, not going completely modern or Goryeo, but incorporating both. And all without sticking on literal fake pony’s tails.

girlfriday: I’m going to like her transition very much, I think, because this is a version of the time-traveling we haven’t seen before. Like the prissier and more stuck-up she is, the better.

javabeans: Plus, I really want them to show us the conversation where he demands, “Save the king!” and she’s like, “I’m a plastic surgeon! I can zap that zit, but that’s about it!”

girlfriday: Right? Does the king need a new nose? Or perhaps a royal spy needs a new face?

javabeans: Well, if she adds a mole to his face I bet that’ll fool everyone! Only, then we’d have to rename the drama Temptation of Faith.

girlfriday: Or Temptation of Mole.

javabeans: He’d be a mole with a mole! It’s brilliant!

girlfriday: YES. And I hope they really go all-out with the big glorious epic stuff, because it’d be nice to see some real fantasy in these fantasy dramas. And I don’t mean the dreams about Lee Min-ho!

javabeans: ‘Cause those are a given no matter the genre. I do think this is the team to give us that kind of fantasy, though—you know, magic and mists and elf-like helpers and geeky board-game tie-ins—which I’m looking forward to. The grandeur, I mean, not the board games.

girlfriday: Uh-huh. Do you have a Dungeons and Dragons cape hidden away somewhere you want to share with the class?

javabeans: No, but I did spend one afternoon trapped—er, being taught how to play—with Magic cards. It was frustrating for the both of us. We don’t speak of it now.

girlfriday: We will when I need something to blackmail you with.

javabeans: Well then that would be double torture, ‘cause you’d have to endure the Magic yourself. (Okay, I get that it’s supposedly a fun game. But also incredibly tedious!)

girlfriday: Pass. I’ll forgo blackmail and just stick to mockery then.

javabeans: They say go with what you’re good at. Back to Faith, though—I do hope this is the drama to get the time-travel element right, because so far every show has pulled at least one major case of whatthefuckery. Sometimes (many, many) more. I don’t need the time-travel to be realistic; hey, the unrealism is built into the premise. But it’s got to be true to its internal logic! Or, you know, have internal logic.

girlfriday: Well now you’re just asking for crazy things. I would just like for some really good epic consequences of time-travel. It doesn’t need to be totally mind-bendy butterfly effect stuff, but the stuff I liked in Inhyun for instance was that every time he changed something in the past, the present’s version of history changed along with him. That kind of stuff, but on an epic scale, because well, Faith promises epic.

javabeans: Right. It doesn’t have to be Stephen King-level of world catastrophes a la 11/22/63, but I would like for all the past-era shenanigans to have some effect. And no, one stinkin’ gummi brain baby does not take care of that.

girlfriday: Ew. Why must you bring up the gummibaby?

javabeans: In the hopes that Faith’s production gets it right, lest they be cursed with one?

girlfriday: Gah, that’s now the new hex isn’t it?

javabeans: I could sic Gaksital on them, but you know what his aim’s like. It’s so hit or miss. Hur hur.

girlfriday: Badum ching!

javabeans: *Takes a bow*

@ivoire: this is a stab in the dark, but maybe shiku is commenting on how the drama with its Goryeo period setting is fused with other modern/outwordly/anime-ish elements? So it only looks 3/4 Goryeo not fully Goryeo

Oh I see, thanks Maya :-)!

0

Actually no. I was thinking maybe we would have our Goryeo version of the F4. I said 3 first because I didn't know if LMH joined the guys with anime hair (2nd last pic).

0

My assumption is totally off! Was thinking of Ranma 1/2 and connecting that to Goryeo 3/4... Definitely shouldn't buy a lottery ticket this week... :D
Isn't it kind of a thing to have a group of 4? So I hope the anime hair guy will join the gang. Three guys just won't be enough... :D
Btw, those costumes, I can't imagine wearing them during the summer season

0

Thank you again, Shiku and Maya!

It would be kind of interesting to have a Goryeo version of the F4. And I agree with you Maya, wearing those costumes in the summer must be challenging. And think of the scenes they have to film in those costumes (and all of the action scenes, all that jumping and running around). It is one of the reasons why I hope this drama will do well, in S. Korea and internationally. Things like that might also be the price to pay for fame, popularity and fortune?

Thank you for this, so much!!!!!!

I really love all of the pictures, thank you again!!!! In the set of the four guys (starting with LMH), the guy in the 4th picture kind of looks like Hyun Bin, or at least, he reminds me of HB. Kim Hee-sun is a beautiful woman and the clothes and pictures are so colorful. I am looking forward to this drama. I have never seen anything by this PD and writer, so I am looking forward to seeing what the buzz is all about, which, based on the comments I have read so far will be epic and well done, I am sure.
I am also hoping that the whole cast will do amazingly and extremely well and that LMH will bring it, a la Lee Seung-gi in TK2Hs. That would be awesome if his performance could be at that level.
I have read some doubts about KHS's acting, and personally, I have never seen her in anything, so it will be my first time seeing her act and I look forward to that as well. I think this will be a good way to get out of real life and get lost in fantasyland for a few hours each week.

Why is it always the female who looks too old for the male?

Maybe we should blame Lee Min Ho for looking too young.

Grow some facial hair, you warrior you! (but just for this drama, I like young, adorable Lee Min Ho in real life.)

Kim Hee Sun looks like she's between 28 and 30 - just a few years older than Lee Min Ho's real age (25)

yup. for something to be said for the guy, there would have to be at least 10 years age gap between him and the (younger) girl). there only have to be at least 3-4 years of age gap for a girl to be too old for a guy.

0

@ IZzie :) Oh WOW!!!!
Great skills indeed!!! He still looks young, but he actually looks good, I must admit. There is something about his eyes, when one looks at the picture you altered. His eyes, or rather the look in his eyes maybe, make him look young, IMHO. He also looks quite different in that picture, a little bit like it's a different person.

0

thank you chingus! i got lucky the guy on the right has a beard and was shot at the same angle so i "borrowed" his facial hair.lol.i needn't go far looking for a "beard donor." Maybe if i could blend it properly to lmh's skin, it might look better.

looking at lmh w/ beard he reminds me of song il guk in jumong.

0

@ IZzie:),
You are very welcome!!!You did a good job and I do stand corrected, some of the Korean actors do look good with facial hair. Maybe I do need to get my eyes checked :-) Thank you for adding SIG's picture as well, he does look good with facial hair.

0

@Ivoire

LOL. I'm not a big fan of facial hair, indeed, there are guys who can pull off having it - like they look better looking mangy. (for me, Viggo Mortensen's Aragorn is the poster boy of the hawt mangy look.) :D It may be going against my usual preferences but I like Cha Seung Won with the 'stache and beard like I prefer Yoo Ah In with long, scruffy hair. ;)

"I do stand corrected, some of the Korean actors do look good with facial hair. Maybe I do need to get my eyes checked."

Nah... just think of it as an acquired taste. Like sushi for the first timer. Some things can grow on you, especially when presented with the best specimen. ;)

0

@ IZzie :), Good morning (it is morning time where I live)

Good to hear from you. You said this: "Viggo Mortensen’s Aragorn is the poster boy of the hawt mangy look," and now you got me curious about how Mortensen looks as Aragorn. Knowing that you have great skills in computer imaging, I expect you :-) to show me a picture of Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, so I would know what you are talking about, pretty please.

You like CSW with the COW look? Wow, did you read my (long) comment below? (LOL). I guess you are right, it is an acquired taste, like sushi for the the first timer :-).

You also said this: " Some things can grow on you, especially when presented with the best specimen. ;)" Well said, and I totally agree with you! That has definitely happened to me regarding Kdramas. What I mean is that I would start watching a drama and think that some of the actors/actresses are not that great, but then I keep watching and (especially if their character is well written and consistent), their acting (as well as their character) would grow on me.

So, I hope to read from you again, and to see Viggo Mortensen in Aragorn :-) (Thank you in advance :-)) (I don't know if you could tell, but I was trying to be aegyeo[sp?] cute. Did it work?) :-)

0

re: Viggo... haven't you seen The Lord of the Rings movie? Well, if you haven't here is Viggo as Aragorn. (I hope JB & GF don't mind me putting so many links here.)

I've read your comment re: CSW. LOL. Well, to each her own, chingu. But I respect your opinion about that. The first time I saw CSW he's got facial hair and got used to that image. Him not having any looks a bit off for me, like he's too clean and having no facial hair doesn't go well with his facial features.

Re: aegyo. LOL. You got the wrong girl to try it on. I can never read a sister's ageyo. It's all blurred to me. Sowee! :D

0

I don't think so...so far no Korean I've seen has especially good facial hair...which is fine, as long as you don't sit a patchy little rat on your face and expect me to LIKE it.

But uri Minho is gonna be hot in this, I can just tell.

Hi JoAnne, I agree with you! No Korean (actor) I have seen so far as well looks good with facial hair. Ok, I take that back a little, some of them look OK in the sageuk genres (especially older actors), or maybe it is that I don't think twice about it and just expect to see that because of the genre, I am not sure. I do like their actors without facial hair, and without the mustache as well (especially Cha Seung Won, he looks so much better without both).
I personally don't think LMH would look good with facial hair, and I agree with you, I think he will be hot in this drama as well. The mane of glory looks good on him, really good. He can work it :-)!

How are you, have you started school? (I think you were going to start right?) You can answer me on OT if you would like (I am the first name on this week's OT). Hope to read from you :-)

0

What? Didn't you think COW in Best/Greatest Love looked kinda hot?
:)

0

The bad guy in Queen In Hyeon's Man --= forgot his name-- the baddie who was imprisoned. Rocked that beard.

0

The villain in King Geunchogo looked good with facial hair

I would take Mr Skylord of Warrior Baek Dong Soo anytime if you need a hairy korean.

I do think that the COW look was kinda hot..The problem I have with the younger actors is that they have such baby smooth chin!!! Give me some stubble...

0

0

@ Cynthia, LOLed at your reaction :-).

I hope you didn't fall off your chair. And no, I did not/ still DO NOT like the COW look on CSW (cha, not Choi). It is one of the reasons why I haven't watched Best Love yet, (but one episode, 14. Wait, I only watched part of it, until a little bit after the kiss and that was it. He was a good kisser in that episode btw :-)) and it is also the reason why I can't bring myself to watch City Hall which a friend gave me on DVDs she recorded for me in June 2010 (still waiting to watch that). She has been singing the praises of that drama, and I still haven't touched it. I think I watched maybe 30mns of episode 1, and that was it. Same goes for Athena, I haven't watched it partially because CSW has the COW look (kind of LOL...)
I saw a picture of CSW on dramafever without the mustache and the beard and he looked like a totally different person. I was like: "Wait, that is CSW? Chincha?" I couldn't believe it!!! He looked so much better IMHO. I have to want to see the males (especially the leads) in a drama (repeatedly) to be able to watch and follow the story, otherwise, I can't do it. I have to get into the drama and into the characters. It is about the experience I have (most of the time) when I watch a drama. Otherwise, I find it challenging to watch because I can't bring myself to watch the characters (and the actors who portray them).

I have the same issue with Hyun Bin in SeGa. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Binnie, especially when he smiles, those dimples :-). And I LOVE his voice, he has a great voice, really... In SeGa however, he is too thin for me (he lost 4kgs for the role or something like that) and it showed a lot on his face. His cheeks are sunken and I don't find him attractive at all in SeGa, which makes it hard for me to watch him. I keep wanting to feed him, when I see him like that, LOL! I thought his body was fine, but his face looked emaciated some, to me. I have watched very few episodes of SeGa (and the ending, of course) here and there, probably not more than 3 or 5 episodes and I couldn't bring myself to watch it because I couldn't watch HB like that. I just didn't find him attractive and on top of being a jerk, I couldn't understand what GRI (or GRH) was seeing in him. I also didn't care too much about Oska, who made his gf wait 15 years before being fully committed to her, I didn't have the patience to watch that either. And don't get me started on the mom... She did a really good job on the few episodes I saw because I was like "I don't want to spend all this time watching her either."
I haven't closed the door to SeGa. I will watch it one day, in small doses, so I can understand what the fuss is all about. I do think HB did a good job there and HJW, to a certain extent. I was not in love with her character either. Could not understand how a martial art expert couldn't fight a guy off of her (besides the fact that What he did in that bed scene was wrong, IMO), I just didn't buy it. Her character to me lacked consistency. I did like HB in MNIKSS and in World Within. I thought he looked much, much better in both. I haven't seen his other dramas (Ireland, Friend, Our Legend), but I have seen some episodes of Snow Queen and liked it, but again, didn't think he looked good with facial hair, although I understood that they were going for a different look and I was OK with that.
I think I prefer K actors clean shaved, for the most part, even the oldest, more mature, veteran ones.

@ Carole: Hello, I haven't seen all of QIHM yet, so I am not sure about the bad guy. I will pay attention when I watch it, (eventually...). I watched a few episodes and I didn't feel pulled in the drama as a whole. I liked a few scenes, but again, I wasn't pulled in, so it is on my "To Watch List" (eventually).

@ Shiku: Haven't seen King Geunchogo, so I have no comments :-), but thanks for the info.

@ Mysti: will check your link, haven't looked at it yet.

@Slfowie: As I have mentioned earlier, the COW look doesn't work for me, at all. For the young actors, I would find it hard to have a young looking face (think Song Joong-ki, Kim Soo-hyun (sp?), Shin, even LMH, Kim Hyun -jong (Sp?), Kim Bum with facial hair. For some reason, facial hair for me goes with a look or air of maturity, wisdom, a little bit (older) age. So facial hair on young actors would look odd, I think... But then again, if it is well done, maybe... I don't know.

We all have our quirks, our likes and dislikes, I guess those are mine. Please don't throw any stones, I was just honestly expressing my opinion and was not in any way insulting or making fun of those who have watched and/or loved the dramas I mentioned, for the record.

0

@ Mysti and Maya,

1--I saw the pix, Mysti and I see your point.

2--Maya, yes, I can imagine JJH with facial hair. I stand corrected guys. Some of them do look good with facial hair. I still don't like the COW look :-( (and the hair over their forehead. Hides their pretty forehead and their eyes).

0

@ Ivoire
I am not saying that all guys look good with facial hair, some guys do. Its just that none of the Korean actors ( the younger ones) have facial hair.. and at the mature age of 24 oogling at them makes me feel a bit like a perv.. :(
As for the COW look I like it when it was just a shadow. The problem i have is that when there is a closeup scene you can hardly see that they actually HAVE facial hair- that i have a problem with coz it makes them look soo young....

0

She actually looks younger than her age to me. But then again, LMH looks young as well, he has somewhat of a baby face, like Song Joong-ki.

Required fields are marked *

You know, after a second look, I agree with you that the velvet capes do look like the color of their hair, but that is only for the capes. Look at LMH's costume and it is blue, navy (maybe) for the inside silky robe and dark blue (to me) for the outside heavy costume he has on top of that robe. Blue and dark blue and purple (KHS's outfits, some of them) seem to be the predominant colors on these pictures (they might not be for the whole drama, which would not surprise me, since we have a lot of characters and some of them do wear outfits with different colors, even based on these pictures).
Look again closely, and you will see that aside from the capes, the outfits actually look blue. Look at the clothes under the capes and look at the two guys behind in the picture where the four guys are standing, their outfits are blue as well. That was what prompted my comment. yes, the capes look like their hair (color wise) but could that color (of the capes) pass for a really dark blue as well, I was just wondering...

And yeah, maybe you should get your eyes checked *wink*

Hi EEE

I get the "Hallyu" star thing, who by the way actually got this drama done and picked up by a network when other actors rejected it (and he rejected it at first) and a network would not pick it either. As soon as LMH said yes, the drama suddenly found a network, after 2 years of being on the shelf. So, there is something to be said for his star power, or that project might still be on a shelf somewhere. And they know (the powers that be) what they are doing, because they know that many in Korea and internationally will tune in to watch it, whether it is good or bad (primarily because of LMH). I am glad however that the people behind it know what they are doing and have a proven track record of doing it well, so it won't be wasted energy, time (both the cast and ours) and money (production and advertisers).

I do hope it will turn out great, better than CH, if that is possible :-).

Ahaha! What a catastrophe! This looks like a job for Boong-do's talisman. Or maybe she'll grab the dye pre time-jump.

"Just let me grab my hair products!!" is what she is really saying to Lee Min Ho as she struggles atop his shoulders.
But, I'm sure he'll be teaching her the ways of achieving perfect waves using iron pokers.

Mole? What mole?

Faith is looking better and better.

What I'm looking forward to is the inevitable conversation about the shoes. I'm hoping he snaps 'em, then uses the heels as weapons. Probably not gonna happen, but it would be hilarious. : )

Thanks for the photos! I love your conversation posts.

Still #3.

How is it possible that this man just keeps getting more and more gorgeous?! He really is stunning - and that Mane of Glory? It ROCKS.

That's my totally shallow comment for the day.

Hi Cynthia,
I read from someone who saw him in RL that he is even better looking in person. Imagine that... Better looking than what we see on that pix... But yeah, he is gorgeous!!!! And everything in his whole body is well proportioned. Everything has just come into place as he has grown physically. *End of Rave*

Honestly, am I the only one not digging the 'mane of glory' on Minho? The lead actress doesn't look that much older than LMO, he's got a mature and manly look to him which helps in making the pairing work.

Legend's storyline may be one hell of a mess but I did stayed up late for it and it is infact very well done. I'm really looking forward to Faith not just because of the pretty-Lee Minho- but also because of the story. Sure it is, yet, another time-travelling drama, but I'm pretty sure that Song Ji-nah would give the story her own twists and punches to make it different.
another thing is that, I'm really getting tired of people saying that Kim Hee-sun looks too old for LMH... sure she is really older, but in my opinion, Gu Hye Soon from BOF also looks a tad older than LMH. Despite her getting a bowl cut and wearing cute clothes, I just didn't buy her being the same age as the F4 and they were in suits most of the time. But then they pulled it off pretty well and as much as annoying Jan-di is they had some nice moments. I'm not a fan of Kim Hee-sun, never been able to watch her from anything, but at least she would be playing someone close to her real age here, so it wouldn't be awkward or anything. Plus I'm sure I'm not the only
one who would be looking forward to a Noona-slayer, especially if that slayer is a hot-bad-ass warrior :)

People complaining about the noona factor.

I think people have to look at it from the opposite side:

What if they got someone *younger* than LMH?

Because I'm telling you now, people's thinking would be vaguely on the side of really quite illegal things considering a majority of Asians look younger than they are. (I know because I am Korean)

The amount of times I've personally got "Oh~ Are you [12, 14, 16]?" astounds me (I'm 21 BTW...and yes, the comments have continued from when I *was* 16 until now. I got *much* younger ages before that. I get 14 the most).

So, I consider if they got an actress my age, and my look, and I personally prefer the noona situation ^^

What makes me excited about this drama is that I can pretend I am highly anticipating it because it looks like it might finally deliver the perfect combination of fantasy time-travelling and real emotion. Something Doctor Jin has not done though it claimed extreme similarities (of course I'm basing that on HeadsNo2's recaps. There is no way I could find enough humor in the show alone to watch it). Because in reality I would be watching any show with Lee Min Ho even if it was just him sitting in a boat fishing for hours.

Who's got pointy ears? In the pictures above I see no one with pointy ears?

About the 'zip that zit' (:D) - would the king be severly burned or something like that, the a plastic surgeon would be your gal - that's what they do as well; take care or severe burns, from the acute to later phases as well. Although, the equipments used are very modern, so if he kidnapped a modern OR to boot, then he's on the right tracks :D.

About her being too old? Nah, if the chemitry's there, the age has little or no weight (unless he'd be like 14 or something). Also, in the goryeo people died much earlier than today, so there a 25 would equivalent someone here at their 40's. Of course, if a dude has a young face, then he's young (Unless he's a vampire or some other supernatural creature that stays forever fresh and pre his 'best before'-date) :D I think it's rather wise that Kim Hee-sun is the leading lady - who'd believe a 25 something girl could be a fully certified plastic surgeon?

Think of it: first som basic schools (depending on the country) for about 12-14 yrs, then med school (again varying from country to country) approx 6-7yrs, then specialization about 5-7yrs (again varying), all in total 23-28 yrs. A girl at 25 would have had to have started going to school at minimum when 2 yrs old, and if really lucky; 3 yrs before her birth, to be able to fullfill even the minimal time requiremens of being a plastic surgeon. I mean, this is a fusion fantasy sageuk, or something... but I guess they're not going to opt for in-womb-schooling to make the heroine creditable at what she does? :P

But, thenagain, if they did - there'd we have our gummibaby-timetravel connection ;D

You just wrote exactly what I wanted to write re age difference. 25 in Goryeo is probably fairly old, whereas it's just nearly impossible to be a skilled/experienced plastic surgeon if you're in your early twenties. In fact, I have no problem whatsoever with the age difference in this setup.

I don't have a problem with the age difference either in this setup. Besides, Kim Hee Sun looks very good for her age, face and body (and she has had a child. How many of us look like that?)

@ Jenny,
Re: the guy with pointy ears: look at the set of the four guys in the picture, starting with LMH. The last guy (picture #4) has pointy ears and look at the picture below, where they are standing, again you can see his pointy ears very clearly. Look again closely, and you should see it. I hope this helped :-)

Hey Ivoire :)

Nope, can't see the pointy ears. LMH has his hair over his ears, so no idea what his ears will turn out to be like. Both of the bunheads have your typical human round top ears, not pointyness there and the bedhead has his ears covered, well, with his bedhead :D

Maybe we're talking about different pictures? The ones I mean are: 1. the one with them all in their separate pictures (Clockwise, starting from upper left: LMH -> bunhead no 1 -> bunhead no 2 -> bedhead) and 2. the one where they're doing their capewalk :)

Looking back at the stills again, I do hope the female surgeon is a bit more competent a character than the female lead in 'Dr Jin' or the female lead in 'Gakistal.' The recaps here are lot friendlier to Mok Dan than the comments on Vikii. After a promising first episode, she's become so stupid and useless over the rest of the series people are rooting for her to get killed. I watched the fight scene in ep 17 and she doesn't just stand around, she hovers so close to Gakistal HE can't fight at full speed.

JB, speaking as a geeky board-gamer, I really have no clue why people tried to teach you Magic.

Magic is overly complex and is more a collecting, deck-building exercise than anything else, which while it can be fun, is usually not appealing to non-gamers.

There are SOME decent game elements in it, but those are overshadowed by the various different complex rules and straight zero-sum nature of the game.

To make a bad analogy, it would be like introducing a K-drama newbie to say... Dr. Jin.

I'm not sure what board games would appeal to you as it varies from person to person (and sometimes you might not like any of these games), but just to toss out some games which might appeal:

Bohnanza
Settlers of Catan
For Sale
Ticket to Ride
7 Wonders

Most of these games have streamlined rules and can be played pretty quickly; within a half hour or an hour, if you have a good teacher.

I feel as if Christms is approaching soon.
How many more days until August 13th?

OK, I'll quietly go watch "City Hunter" again. :)

If I can't even spell...CHRISTMAS...
correctly, maybe I should go take a
nap first. Then watch "City Hunter." :)

And just from the few samples of the
sound track attached to the several
film clip/teasers that I've heard, the
music for "Faith" sounds pretty awesome,
too.

So when do we start the campaign that
the 24 scheduled episodes aren't enough,
and the writers should add an extension?

:) :) :)

I hate all those hater who do not know what they are talking about? Kim Hee Sun is Asian Beauty Icon, so lucky for Lee Min Ho who had once in the life chance to act with the Legend Korean No.1 Beauty. That why of the perfect match co-star make him won agains another award. Frankly, speaking, seen all those co-stars had been starring with him, I think that Kim Hee Sun is the most attractive and beautiful among them.
