Lee Sang-woo and Kim So-eun join Horse Healer

Now that the leads of upcoming sageuk The Horse Healer have been confirmed, supporting actors are lining up to sign on the dotted line. Lee Sang-woo (Feast of the Gods, Thousand Day Promise), aka Best Oppa Ever, has now confirmed that he will play the the other leg of the Jo Seung-woo / Lee Yo-won love triangle. Oppa, why must you always play the guy who doesn’t get the girl and breaks my heaaaaaart?

This will be Lee Sang-woo’s first sageuk, and he’ll be playing Lee Sung-ha, described as a beautiful and intelligent man. So far so good. And also kind of obvious. But the hero played by Jo Seung-woo (the titular horse healer who goes on to become a royal physician) has a tragic backstory, of course — his father’s wrongful death. And Lee Sang-woo will play the son of the man who killed Jo Seung-woo’s father. So, pretty much your-father-killed-my-father rivals, even before they meet the girl. Then they both fall in love with Lee Yo-won and things get even more dicey.

Joining Lee Sang-woo in second lead land is Kim So-eun (Happy Ending), playing a princess who falls in love with Jo Seung-woo’s character. She’s described as feisty and used to getting her own way, which I guess is no surprise for a princess. She’s known for throwing tantrums to get whatever she wants, but I’m thinking she’ll have to throw a pretty big one to get Jo Seung-woo.

The 50-episode drama produced by the writer-director pair behind Dong Yi and Yi San will air on Mondays and Tuesdays, and premieres in September on MBC.

Lee Sang Woo... I was so happy to see him get the girl in Feast of the Gods, he finally scored one girl (as far as his dramas that I've watched).

He got the girl in Feast of the Gods! Which is like the tree in the forest - if you get the girl in a show no one watched, does it make a sound?

According to the ratings, a lot of people watched it. At least in SK: http://www.koreandrama.org/?p=13898
It's just than the show was mostly for foodies: The men and the script were secondary. Also, food on dramas is made to be devoured, you don't talk about it. :)

Glad I wasn't the only one watching! And he was very very handsome in it, but that show and Fermentation Family have serious serious food porn. FF more so, I was all for making lotus root kimchi after that particular episode of FF.

Oh, heaven help me, I watched both and you are bringing on the flashbacks, especially with FF. The kimchi...the fish...the rice balls...the soups...the wine...the kimchi...and more kimchi...I'm salivating! lol

BTW, I loved both shows, though in all fairness I liked Fermentation Family just a bit more.

Love LSW so much in FOTG! Sexiest chef ever!

NOT SPOILERS

He is massively sexy, and I LOVE HIM forever because of LIB.
For all of FotG, I watched and sighed and ogled and stared openmouthed at the beauty that is LSW.

Every second he was on screen I held my breath. Pretty sure if were day, the sun shone brighter, and if it were night, the moon glowed bigger.

The camera people were also in love with him.
I swear some of the shots, the operator forgot there were other actors on screen, as I did.

In one of my favorite "I can't believe this is sexy - it shouldn't be sexy!" scenes was an over the shoulder shot of him eating ramen. They only showed his shoulders, neck and part of his face, but it filled the whole screen.

Then as the series wound down, wardrobe stepped it up and put him in black. I was slaughtered by LSW in Black, and there was always a little peak of his clavicle.

Oy vay. I will watch this because of him. He should totally get the girl in whatever he is in, except when he gets Song Chang Ui.

One of the best comments I have had the pleasure to read here on dramabeans since I started following the blog in '07 :)
LSW's handsomeness/beauty is truly indescribable. I just hope he goes on to pick greater dramas/movies in the nearer future so that I can ogle at him on big screen :)

Excuse me, but I watched FOTG. Fought voraciously for my OTP (LSW/SYR) mostly in the drama's soompi thread where all the rabid JSW fans blindly (and stupidly) shipped JSW's character to SYR's.

Speaking of FotG on soompi -
I have never seen shipping wars get THAT bloody.
HOLY SMOKES!
I weighed in early, but then decided to just silently witness that massacre.

Actually, I'm one of those who actively participate in that bloody shipping war. I was a LSW/SYR shipper, glad we won.

Do you think in FotG case, the writers followed what the fans seemed to want, or do you think it was decided early on?

I was all for JSW at the beginning, but when LSW started to have more screen time, I completely abandoned ship.

0

@jomo.

I'm not sure about it because when I first watched FOTG, I firmly believed that LSW is really the main lead because his character is well-defined compared to LSW's. But maybe, the poll voting results cemented the LSW/SYR pairing.

0

JOMO! How is it we never yakked about FotG, eh? Seriously unless they were involved in the shipping war (I ran far far away from that) people were totally mum about it. I was in it for the food, to be perfectly honest.

Kim So-eun, why do you pick projects that I have no interest in watching? Argh. I want to love you so much, but you're not letting me! 50 episodes is just too much to ask. I still remember A Thousand Kisses.

If you haven't seen it yet, watch Kim So-eun in "He/The Man Who Can't Marry" - an excellent romcom starring Ji Jin hee (no cliche-filled storyline, no one-dimensional stereotypical characters).

Quality script and acting all around.

Yeah, I stopped watching "The Iron Empress" once the adult Chun Chu took over (that actress was so annoyingly good as the villainess in "The Emperor of the Sea", but she didn't quite fit the part of Chun Chu).

i don't think it's gonna happen. i agree with anna, such premise seems to be the trend in saeguks and i think that it has been established that kse and lsw will both experience one-sided love. if there were a chance for both of them to get together, it should have been mentioned.

LSW was also wonderful and as handsome as always (note his well-defined biceps in a short-sleeved shirt!) in the first drama I ever saw him in, 9E2O. He has a beautiful voice, too. :)

OMO where was that? Y'know, Jo Seung-woo is wonderful actor and all but the little voice in my heart already starting to whisper that I might ship Lee Yo-won with Lee Sang-woo, not just b'coz they'll look good together but of their characters relationship. Best friend-turned-step siblings-one sided then forbidden feeling. All that angsy-ness that might happen, OMO I squeal!

And did U know them 3 leads are all same age born in 1980? hmmm... fascinating tidbit.
