Kim Seung-woo headlines medical drama

So if you’ve been following medical drama-to-be Third Ward at all, it’s been on quite the rollercoaster pre-production journey. First it was slated for SBS with Cha Seung-won attached. Then both SBS and Cha dropped it, and it picked up Uhm Tae-woong as a hero and started shopping at KBS. During that round it changed its title to Tower. But Uhm then went on to do the upcoming Equator Man, and now there’s a new leading man working out final negotiations. If all the Ts get crossed, Kim Seung-woo will be headlining the drama over on cable network tvN. Oh, and it’s called Third Ward again. Phew. Still with me?

The drama is being produced by Taewon Entertainment, the production house behind the IRIS franchise. So it makes sense that Kim Seung-woo would be on their short list, as was Cha Seung-won. I just find it funny that new 1 Night 2 Days bros Tae-woong and Seung-woo have been courted by the same drama. It’s a good thing they’re not a pair of divas.

Third Ward is yet another neurosurgeon drama because, um, there ARE no other types of doctors in dramaland? It’s a battle in Eastern vs. Western medicine, and our hero is caught somewhere in between, having been forced into Western medicine by his father. I’m just glad that Kim Seung-woo will get a drama whole hog as the name-in-lights star, because he was criminally underused in his last drama, Miss Ripley. Why yes, it DOES still anger me. Thanks for asking.

If the third time’s the charm, then Third Ward will air sometime this spring on tvN.

I am a sucker completely for the built-in tension cutting open someone's skull adds to a scene, but, really?
Another brain show?
Haven't we been over this?
Why couldn't it be just a hospital show?

I don't know him, so i won't judge. But really, all that drama within the drama + neurosurgery again. Sigh.
My only hope lies with TVn. If they can give the all stuff an "original" touch like for their precedent dramas, then maybe i could find that interesting.

And exactly how does an Eastern vs Western neurosurgeon differ?

Must be a cultural thing : They don't announce you the awful truth about your coming death the same way. Or maybe Easterns surgeons promote Feng Shui for the patients room. Or they don't use anaesthetics : You have to practice meditation to be operated.
Oh, and the food must be better in Korean hospitals. I want a dietitian to be a pain in the arse of the surgeon.

So, KSW is playing a character who is being forced to practice Western medicine while believing in Eastern application?

It must mean that his patients will be receiving a prescription to use a steam/vaporizer machine while downing doses of Oxycontin.

It's all good in Third Ward town. :)

And as much as I love KSW in any and everything I've ever seen him in, (to me) he just doesn't cut it as a sexy leading man anymore. He's crossed over into ahjusshi territory - something I realized while watching him in his scenes with Lee Da hae in Miss Ripley.

Poor Kim Seung-woo. He had the girl and the lead stolen from his in How to Be a Perfect Neighbour, too. (By the lovely Park Shi-hoo, who else?)

He reminds me of George Clooney for some reason. Not the way he looks, obviously, but his gentleman-like charisma. He has gravitas.

hmm at first I was all aboard your george clooney ship and then I remembered george clooney comes over more asshole than charmer- as far as charisma? I won't name drop 30's movie stars.

Well, no one can come close to the old kings and queens of black-and-white. But among nowadays' Hollywood stars, he comes to mind.

I haven't seen him coming across as an asshole, but ultimately with actors it's all a persona anyway. Who knows what they're really like when the cameras are off.

wow, never thought of Georgie as an asshole...cocky sometimes, not great boyfriend material most of the time...but oh so adorable from a lusty distance.

yeah! I was wondering why they want to show such a realistic scene of the or. I just finished gobbling bong dal hee and I invariably covered my eyes when they started to cut people open. And it seemed like they had to do it every two minutes. In any case thanks to this experience I now have a system to watch medi-dramas and I've added a few to my dramafever queue. I've added all their medi-dramas.

Another medical drama on cable? well, good luck...there is another one on jtbc called Syndrome, it's pretty good...i wonder why it isn't here in the list of currently airing dramas;it followed Padam, padam and the ratings are above 1%...actually you girls also omitted A wife's credentials, which premiered last wednesday, and more weekend dramas (Can love become money, Go! mrs Go!, Heaven's garden)... I don't know why, maybe you forgot about them, as there are many lately, or you don't find them interesting, but i think jtbc did better than the other new cable channels...

Likely because with little info from the production, the media thought Syndrome would be another Brain. The posters/short teasers didn't help either. I think only the 14min highlight clip suggested the drama was otherwise, but how many people saw that? And we might have failed to notice the writer's response to the press on the difference/similarities b/w Brain and Syndrome. She was very clear. Since EP 3-4, jTBC or their marketing team has been billing Syndrome as a medical thriller.

And viewers remember the writer for her Heading to the Ground. Well, it looks like she's learned from her mistakes because I'm enjoying Syndrome immensely.

I am sorry this drama has a lot of compeition coming I feel for KSW.I hope Taewon Can pull this off because lately they are fail after IRIS. Also are they crazy to let UTW get away have they never seen Resurrection? I swear he would have been awesome as the lead but yay Equator Man is going to be epic. Now lastly keep TVN in your prayers because a lot of their drama's start off good then soon jjust bomb and leave you with the most infuriating or ridiculous ending. Tired of medical drama's not being original. There is only one Brain can we do something besides neurosurgery?

Now I'm worried for 1N2D, this means that Jowon = Bridal Mask, UTW = Equator Man and KSW = Third Ward. 1N2D might take a backseat to accomodate their schedule. Hope this will not happen.
