Fashion King releases character promo shots

Well, it’s definitely going for sleek, that’s for sure. Upcoming drama Fashion King may be a story about underdogs, but you wouldn’t know from the promos. Based on these shots, I’d guess it was a Gossip Girl-esque soapfest about privileged, angsty teens and their saucy problems. The first one reads: “Running towards tomorrow and the world / Youth’s challenge, success.” So I guess this is what the fashion-mogul-to-be hero looks like after he’s all done working his way up from nothing?
The character shots below feature the main quartet with their own taglines. Yoo Ah-in: “Things I don’t have / Hope, a future.” Shin Se-kyung: “The one thing I never let go of / Hope.” Lee Je-hoon: “I believed there was nothing I would ever lack / Until I met you…” Yuri: “I might seem perfect / But I was always lonely.”
That last one cracks me up. Oh, were you lonely, princess? It’s difficult being perfect. I know. There, there. It sounds like Lee Je-hoon’s headed straight for chaebol second lead territory, in what sounds like a fairly traditional k-drama setup, despite the gloss. I guess we’ll see soon enough if this underdog success tale’s got any heart to go with that shine.
Fashion King premieres Monday March 19 on SBS.

YAI has been known as a chameleon because he always changes his hairstyle like every 2 months, and if you google his pix, you'll find no similar faces of YAI even in 1 year~ sometimes we can't recognize him if we don't follow his updates. Idk, but I just love his ever-changing style.

I'm a little disappointed that he chooses this role and drama. But, he is playing a different character from the movies I've seen (Bleak Night and The Front Lines).

I watched the trailer at work without sound. It certainly didn't do it any favors. It seemed really dramatic with no sound, lol.

lol, why such snark with Yuri's tagline?!
i honestly thought Yoo Ah In's overrated. then i watched He Can't Get Married and i knew the charm. he's good.
I'm no fan of Shin Se Kyung though. I hope Yuri's presence here won't be akin to Jessica's presence in Wild romance.

Agreed. Jessica was so annoying in Wild Romance. I like her and all, but she wasn't a good actress and her character irritated the heck outta me.
I'm scared for the Yuri hate to come. xD Oh well. Honestly, I don't have high expectations for SNSD when acting. They're good singers and dancers, but so far, SNSD hasn't shown me any good acting. (Well, Taeyeon's cameo in Salamander Guru was somewhat cute.)

Yes, they have consistently good performances. Most of the members may not be astounding in terms of singing, but they're all at least serviceable.

ummm... if I disagree about 'good singers & dancers' part, that wouldn't turn me into an anti right?
agreed on Jessica's WR gig. WR was somewhat watchable to me because I like Teahan & Donga but Jessica I-only-know-this-expression really killed it. Hopefully Yuri can do better than that.

Yay! Cheers for you! ^^ We're totally on the same page about this drama. LEE JE HOON and YOO AH IN are both brilliant actors and I know they're not like those young stars who just grab whatever project comes on their way.
As for my favorite SHIN SE KYUNG, it's about time she invades the leading lady category! She did great on Deep Rooted Tree but it was not a romance drama!

Yup, totally agreed with you! Yoo Ah-in & Lee Je-hoon are an actors that choose project with care. They built a good resume so far, so there's no reason for them to pick a bad project.
I trust them. There must be something good in it.
And dramabeans, I hope you guys can recap this. I can't watch anything besides KBS's drama. I only has KBSW.

Kim Je Hoon looks hot. I wish he took on another drama role though because he was so amazing in The Front Line and I think he will just be wasted here. On the upside, if he's playing a chaebol then I hoping that he'll always be in suits and I do like my men in suits.

Don't underestimate the power of YAI in hair or out of hair.
Stills don't do him justice.
If the writing is good, he will be fantastic.
PS The bottom two stills look like something a stalker fan put together, and possibly a serial killer.

Whew, SSK and Yuri both need to down a few sandwiches. They look scary-thin. A girl's arms should not look like sticks.
Despite teh pretteh and how much I adore YAI...I don't think I'm going to check this out. Which is sad, because like I said, I like YAI. I just don't think I'm going to be able to handle the bundle of tropes this will inevitably turn out to be.

I agree that they both look gorgeous, but what is egregious here is the fact that they look very alike, aka, long wavy hair on porcelain skin. It will really depend on the stylists and actors to create the sense of uniqueness and identity for each character.

Lol, I like the last two pictures. Did they have a cute date in NYC or something? hahaha.
I like Yoo Ah In. I think I've only seen him in Antique Bakery and I want to see Punch but I can't find it, so it's probably not out yet. But I think he's cool--it's my main attraction to him. He's super cool.
Also I like his hair o.o; I don't see anything not to like about it, you can barely see it in any of these pictures...it's really just a slight change to how he mostly always has his hair. The sides are shaved now. *shrug*

meh on the setup and fashion dramas in general...the aftertaste from Cinderella Man and Style still stings...this maybe a good vehicle for YAI if it does well....but I think Lee Je Hoon could do better than playing standard second lead male....I'll check it out as long as there are no makjjang shenanigans or birth secrets involved

My excitement for this drama is overflowing! Gosh! Even before this drama secured its cast, I already had YOO AH IN and SHIN SE KYUNG listed on my dream couple and now it’s going to be a reality. ^^
I’m happy to declare that FASHION KING will be my first ever “DRAMA RECAP PROJECT”... No matter what road this drama takes, even if it turns crappy, I'm on-board until its curtains roll down.

beautiful cast is beautiful (although i agree about missing yoo ah-in's mane of glory; boy was beaaaaautiful in SKKS). the trailer looks really snazzy too. i'm not that expectant either - luckily i have dramabeans to give it a test run for me :)

Aaah conflicted. I want to like this drama desperately because I love the actors and lately I've been crushing on Lee Je Hoon but I didn't like the trailer. It was kind of like ripoff of SATC what with the soundtrack and main titles. Just keeping my fingers crossed that I'm wrong about this one. I so want to wrong if it's LJH and YAI.

Watching Lee Je-hoon, he's awesome in everything he is in (lol, repetitive much?) Well, and Yoo Ah-in, though I'm not a fan of that haircut. Sad to say but I guess I'm still firmly in second-lead territory *heart breaks already.

Nope...I'll pass. I'm not a fan of SSK...I dunno what's the hype!!! Every character she plays are a bit of a 'snob' or maybe she brought out the 'snobbishness' in them...I don't mind the other casts though esp Lee Je Hoon, I've seen him in that 'gay' movie...he's good!

Yoo Ah-in and Lee Je-hoon. That's enough for me to ride this drama train. Considering they're two of the most wanted young actors, I'm pretty sure there's some serious pulling power to this story. Especially considering how picky YAI is with his projects and also the quality LJH has been picking lately. I do have to agree that the premise sounds very cheesy. I hope it works out though. Even if it doesn't, I'll just watch it for the sake of eye candy. Very hot eye candy.

I have faith in this drama, solely because I have faith in both Yoo Ah-in and Lee Jae-hoon. Both of them have built an impressive resume and they're known as picky in choosing projects. There must be something different about this drama that they decided to get into it, since I'm sure this must not be the only offer they had, considering both as the box office makers in 2011 (YAI w/ "Punch" and LJH w/ "Tin Line")

If it's like gossip girl, pass. If you live in America, teen shows with drama that never seems to exist is getting overrated. Judging from the posters, I think I will pass and read recaps if drama beans decides to do so
Sigh....when will dramas learn that just by casting an idol, does not mean instant success. Need to remind with playful kiss? Take a look at moon/sun, no idols as lead = national drama
