Rewatching City Hunter, The Greatest Love, and the YT Editions of Playful Kiss.

Want to start watching Tree With Deep Roots just to see SJK.

The rest of the time, I'm re-downloading all my fave kdrama osts, kpop, etc., for my Apple devices which I lost after I updated the software to iOS5 (darn you Apple!). I didn't have backup before for all my files so now I'm making sure I have in an external hd (should've done it the first time, I know!). It's tedious work restoring all 3000+ songs and 100+ videos. On the other hand, I'm listening to the new City Hunter OST - The Score (for me, the best kdrama soundtrack of the year) so I'm happy while downloading.

There are 7 Special YouTube Editions, around 10mins each. It's supposed to take place a year after Hani & Seung-jo got married. Here's ep.1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OFXDcO7VCc&feature=channel

I have 4 younger brothers so they really don't share my drama addiction (though for some reason they watched and loved Meteor Garden which I hated). Anyway, I'm bonding with their girlfriends over kdramas. They currently have my DVDs of PK, MGIAG, SKKS, and DH. Just watched PK YTE with bro#2's gf earlier since she does not have an internet line at their house. Also sharing my love for kdramas are some of my Sunday School students (including the granddaughter of our Pastor) and the sister and niece of former colleagues. I sometimes ask myself if I'm being a bad influence... ;) So most of them know by now what sites to go to to watch current kdramas, where to order DVDs & OSTs, where to download OSTs, and where to read the best recaps --- @DB of course!

I'm watching High Kick 3.
Oh, I tried In Time With You, that Taiwanese drama starring Rainie Yang, but I got hungry so I stopped in the middle of episode 1 and went to get a cheeseburger. I was too busy licking my fingertips to resume watching. LOL

I'm watching this old school drama by bae yoo mi (twinkle, twinkle, who are you?) called Happy together. It stars handtowel (who has a speedo scene), jo min soo, lee byung hoon etc. I'm only up to episode 10 but I love the drama. One thing I really love is the direction and the pace of the story. There are so many things that happen off camera that make the story move faster and the things that they actually show have such great impact. They don't use the things that most shows use to stir our emotions. lee byung hoon is so charming- he has kim rae won notes but it feels very much like he's acting.
I'm also watching All In, Bad Guy ( episode 1), and Live in Style. Anyone else watching it? I can't find subs online so far and the korean channel is starting each episode with about 10 minutes missing from the start but I really like it. I'm also watching a few other weekend dramas.

you know like stupid misunderstandings and not saying how you feel etc. It's not that they don't exist in the drama storyline it's just those things aren't the story that is told or they use the time they have really well. This is a 16 episode drama that would be 50 by today's standards.

That is a disgrace. Call yourself a K drama fan?

I don't care who you are but in my mind you can't call youself a drama fan if you are not watching at least 10 dramas with a list at least twice as much of ones you still want to watch :D

Unless you're DB or GF who you know, don't have to fufil mere mortal stuff like that...

So once you've finished that 15 pages of scary find more dramas!!!

0

I know! *sobs*
That's why I'm starting to watch ITWY.
And waiting for that new Ramyeon drama with Jung Il Woo.

Leaf - you're my hero. I Just finished TPM like 10 minutes ago. I'm watching Pasta for recapping purposes and I'm about to choose my next drama/dorama/t-drama. Not sure what. i"m thinking of watching Vampire Prosecutor (currently airing) and Sungkyunkwan Scandal (marathon) next. I just have so many little projects that take my time that I can't lways watch all the dramas that fuel them. I'm arranging 2 Kdrama tunes right now and recapping very slowly...and planning on writing spoilery review for TPM. I'm a total fan!

Leaf - real life is over rated. That's why we're drama addicts. Or at least that's what I tell myself. I was babysitting two kids tonight and as soon as they were out, I pulled out my computer to start working on my TPM review........I was typing whilst watching the 4 y/o sleep.

(Side note: These are the only kids I babysit. I work with children with disabilities and one of them has a disability. He's AMAZING. He's actually the reason I was so interested in Shining Inheritance. The boy with autism just totally struck home for me. It was a realistic portrayal for the most part. It was also the reason I had to skip a lot in the show...I couldn't stand the abuses they put him through. I skipped almost a whole episode at one point because I was crying too hard....and that's a huge side note....)

Anyway, I've decided to watch one new (ish) drama and one pre-MNIKSS at the same time at all times to give myself the good and the bad. At least while I'm working. Then when breaks up...go for broke!

0

*new and the old, not good and the bad....seriously...so tired...(not a Freudian slip...i SWEAR)

0

I admire you. How can you watch so many things simultaneously? I usually forget which ep I'm on, or I get sidetracked and laze-out. From your list I've only seen SKKS and Over half of Protect the boss. I can't seem to continue watching past ep 11. :( Does the same conflict repeat from hereon? or do we finally get something new to worry about?? How is Ouran HS host club? I'm watching the dramas that are currently airing in our local channels like cinderella man (brain is off, just enjoying kwang sang woo's comedic acts) daemul, my fair lady, and 49 days again. I think i understand dramas better when they're dubbed in my native language though there are still some missing in translations and the voices of the dubbers doesn't match in the characters. I'm also rewatching soaw and then i saw the trailer of it on tv. They're Also gonna air it! And i'm definitely gonna watch it again. I can't get enough with wookie!

K-dramas: Gye Baek, Tree With Deep Roots, Age of Warriors, Vampire Prosecutor.

Still deciding whether to watch A Thousands Day Promise as it seems so sad but I want to watch the acting.

C-drama: BBJX (so tragic and depressing), I'm yet to finish Romance of the three Kingdoms and I realized that there are 2 versions floating around in the web.

US- dramas: The Good Wife, CSI, Criminal Minds, NCIS, Ringer, Revenge (so good!), Prime Suspect, Community, 2 Broke Girls, Survivor.

Deciding whether to watch Once Upon A Time as the first was kinda interesting.

UK-drama: Luther

UK's - Luther

I actually watched the first episode of OUaT it was interesting but am waiting to see the next few eps to decide whether to commit to it or not.

What is CC?

Oh am also watching Person of Interest. It's getting interesting as I feel that characters are getting into their position before the people watching/stalking thing blows up.

0

LOL I am lost in the abbreviations. *sigh* K-drama land, why do you shun me so?

0

I watched the pilot for Once Upon a Time and it was meh. The kid was annoying and the female characters all look too similar. I was hoping it would be lighter fare like Enchanted the Disney movie, with a bit of singing thrown in for good measure.

0

I just started Luther and am loving the brilliant yet homicidal crazy chick!

0

Age of Warriors is so good and well written. The characters are a feast to the eyes! Not by looks or anything but by how complex the characters are. It came out in 2003 so the sets don't look as gorgeous as the recent sagueks but the writing makes up for it.

0

Thanks! I've been really into sageuks lately, for some reason, so I think I'll try out Age of Warriors.

I watched several hundreds of dramas over the years, but I can only claim to be drama-compulsive (defined by MJP, though I think I might have watched more daily and morning dramas than MJP.).

The event I became drama-compulsive= when I was out of work for 6 months (when stock market hit the bottom). Drama of my life: Immortal YSS.

I just came back from Korea. I met eight of my friends and of course, I was the one who knew the most about the dramas. ;)

Hello, ck10z :)

So that means a crush on a noona is always appropriate, no?

I'm settling in just fine. Assignments are stacking up but I can still handle it. I met some good people and also some annoying ones. Ooh, I met an ex-drama addict too! Can you believe it? Abandoning K-drama just like that. I don't like her very much, I think. Heh

The new town is amazing. It's the language barrier that gets to me here. Everyone assumes I understand Chinese since I look like one. I'm getting tired of saying "Sorry, I don't speak Chinese."

Required fields are marked *

I missed a few OTs where are you? I mean which country? The last time I caught you on OT you're were in ?Malaysia but where can you be where they assume you speak Chinese?

Oh ignore them. At work I've been asked to translate Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, Japanese, Burmese, Thai and Cantonese. Man how many languages or countries do they think I am from @__@

0

I'm still in Malaysia. The community speaks a different language(dialect?) though. I understand most of what they're saying, of course, since I'm part Chinese as well. I'm pretty sure the locals use Cantonese, but I've got no skill in speaking whatsoever.

I feel you. People had been asking if I'm Russian, Korean, Eurasian or Malay, when they look at me. Awesome conversation starter!

0

Couldn't reply no more reply buttons. Oh make lots of friends and go to lots of good food places then. Good luck with your report.

Have a good weekend. Better run off it's almost 2am and I wasn't kidding about my test and I am editing some viki videos for softsubs tomorrow as well.

0

Ricky the royal highness -

I'm not Asian, but I look very Spanish and whenever I travel everyone always addresses me in Spanish/French/Italian/Portuguese and looks shocked when I don't respond. Especially in Miami, I get a LOAD of gaping mouths and surprised looks that my parents didn't pass down the Spanish language. (I'm a bit bitter too...) No hablo espagnol. lo siento.

0

@ Raine - You can still learn the language? It's never too late!

0

@Raine

Am kinda in the same boat. I actually forgot how to speak my mother-tongue but strangely I can understand it. So this made for incredibly awkward conversations with my grandmas who only knew how to speak in my mother-tongue. However, the rest of my family is fluent. Sounds weird I know and I have been the butt of so many jokes. To remedy this, my parents sent me to a boarding school in a region that predominantly speaks my mother-tongue in the hope of improving my speaking abilities but it didn't work.

*hangs head in shame*

0

@ Alua - I'm actually learning Spanish and Japanese actively right now...er, independently studying that is. But its still tough when you can't answer fluidly and your accent is good (mine is...which is terrible...cause I cant actually speak...)

@ shiku - You're not the only one. My bff doesn't speak her mother tongue but her sister does. A lot of older siblings around here speak Spanish but the youngers dont. My mother learned Yiddish and her younger sisters didnt. I'm learning Spanish now to catch up with my roots...

0

*sighs* I get it.

I get a lot of "Konnichiwa's or Annyeonghaseyo's" when I'm neither honestly. I'm cool about it. I usually grin and silently bow out to those presumptuous strangers. Or when I'm in a great mood then I'll toss an equivalent one liner back.

Finally managed to watch Protect the Boss this week. The first half was awesome. The second half wasn’t nearly as funny but it was still really good.

*************SPOILERY WARNING*****************

It was such a relief to have a chaebol parent (and grandparent) actually like and accept the poor girlfriend!!! And for the poor girlfriend to not take any s*** from the rich snotty women!!! And I liked the fact that neither Ji Heon or his father believe that Eun Seol was the whistle-blower. I freakin’ LOVED the way Ji Heon and Moo Won acted like such boys fighting over a favorite toy. You could tell they had the potential to be bff’s, but their parents’ fighting kept them on opposite teams. And I loved that there wasn’t just verbal sparring, but downright tussles and fistfights LOL. Does that make me a gangster? Oh, and how do I love Myung Ran!!!!!!

If I have any gripe – and I’ve seen this in other dramas – it’s the whole “I’ve got to do something I’ll contact you when it’s over” thing. There was no real justification for Ji Heon NOT to tell Eun Seol his reasons, but he didn’t. Dunno about anyone else, but it would be a heck of a lot easier for me to wait on my boyfriend if I KNEW WHY I had to wait, rather than just being told to wait. Okay, gripe over.

*************END SPOILERY*************************

On another note: I’m looking for recommendations for saeguks that do not have a sucky ending. The only one I’ve watched is SKKS and I LOVED it. I do plan to watch Hong Gil Dong at some point just because it’s a Hong Sisters Drama (even though I know how it ends). I’ve also downloaded and plan to watch: Strongest Chil Woo, Iljimae, Return of Iljimae, and Legend of Hyang Dan. And based on what I’ve read, I’m considering downloading The Princess’s Man. Chuno sounds interesting, and so does The Legend (aka The Legend of the First King’s Four Gods or something like that). Does anyone recommend either of those? Or do they have sucky endings where everyone dies? I already know not to watch Warrior BDS, otherwise I’ll end up having to buy a new laptop cause I’ll probably throw heavy things at it.

So…saeguks with happy endings anyone???

moo seun! I think what makes a good sageuk is that the character has all the important triumphs and dies after completing their task. I think if you accept that your sageuk path will open.
I just saw that episode of ptb last night ( tonight is the finale!) and I was thinking that the vibe is very coffee house in the last paces ( my sister is watching coffee house so I was reading recaps and I noticed that there's a reference to scent of a woman!) errrrr!!!! Oh, your comment about him just telling her- I thought that too last night. What I really love about this drama is these people actually have conversations and the heroine is not taking in some idiot she had to tame at the end for her happy ending. He consciously decided he must become a person she can lean on, and then when he realized he wasn't yet, they separated. I also love that the second lead girl was just a little lonely thing who has become bffs with our lead and that there's no betrayal between the two when eun sol goes to ji hon.

The Princess Man has happy ending from what i read. i have yet to watch the last 2 episodes.

what new drama that everyone's watching right now? i seriously dont know what happen to me with kdrama now. i read recap but none interest me. i want to watch something!

i read that won bin will be back on small screen (he's still deciding), i hope so!! movie is never the same with drama. i want 16hours of won bin LOL! i watched Ahjusshi last week and its super duper awesome. i remember watching Autumn in my heart before and hating it and cursing the lead couple because Wonbin didnt get the girl.

anyway, i'm listening to our puppy's new album now. love it!

Girlfriday, are you the up town girl in his song? i cant believe he even offer himself as a slave. we need to get this boy a girlfriend! love that song anyway.

and this one is lovely, my most favourite one. i'm sure it will be played a lot on 1N2D;

Saeguk: Return of Iljimae is one of the best TV shows I've seen. Period. No sad ending (at least in my estimation).

Protect the Boss: I agree with your take on the "I have to go away" think. Trope contrivance germane to the Kdrama. What are you gonna do? What I loved about this show (which was definitely better and funnier in the early episodes) was that this is the only kdrama couple (of the many, many, many I've watched) that came across as real to me. Their struggles, their interactions... the whole thing just made much more sense to me than others I've seen, and I could relate. Her trepidation in dating her boss and entering into such a family/lifestyle, his complete openness about liking her and then loving her no matter what, their friendship (an actual friendship!), as well as her resentment after he came back in the end. Realistic. Loved it!

For a totally unrealistic boss/subordinate romance, see the j-drama Hotaru no Hikari, seasons 1 and 2. I understand it is supposed to be a comedy, but I seriously felt that if these people were real, I would want them in therapy rather than marriage.
They have separations not once but twice, both times so she can "become a better person for him" (and ends up changing not one iota) and she has the relationship maturity - even after briefly living with someone else (!) of a twelve year old (afraid of being in his bedroom, getting whacked out about the most chaste kiss on the planet, practicing with the most outrageous pucker...). This is supposed to be a mid-twenties career woman and a mid-thirties divorced boss, living in the same house. I don't believe it, not for a second.

Agreed! I loved PTB but the whole "I've got to take care of some things" scenario is ridiculous. I hate it. How hard is it to buy a phone card or shoot her an email or poke her on facebook? What's worse is when people go "study abroad" and no one hears from them for two years until they show up back at the airport without notifying anyone. My university was almost over-run with international students and every last one of them was in constant contact with home.

Such annoy plot devices. Tirade over.

Hi everyone. Hah. I can't believe I am early for once. I have a whole heap of questions for you guys this week.

How do you withdraw from thinking Korean actors are good looking? That is because I was watching this on TV tonight.

And I thought 'meh' I think Go Soo, Gong Yoo, Hyun Bin, Lee Dong Wook and Lee Sang Woo are cuter.

ck1Oz - I never thought that dude was hot in the first place. The nonAsian guys I always liked I find myself still liking (cellist Zuill Bailey, Michael Weatherly, Mark Harmon (GIBBS, )Matt Damon, Olivier Martinez, Ryan Phillipe (so shoot me), Tyrese, and a bunch of Broadway actors: Adam Pascal, Taye Diggs, Anthony Rapp, Barret Foa).

I could keep going but I'll stop...:D But a LOT of my list are foreign actors. Maybe cause I grew up in Miami where tons of people are foreign? I have no clue.

But Korean actors are hottt!

ck1Oz - He WAS a young hottie back in the day. PHEW. And now he's a nicely aged hottie. And, don't shoot me, but I NEVER got the Sean Connery thing. It's actually a huge point of contention between me and my band. Even the dudes in the band think I'm PSYCHO. But, he just doesn't do it for me.

ahjummabunny - I totally noticed the Lucas Bryant stare now that you pointed it out. YAY channeling CSW!

But anyway, in terms of Asian guys, my Chinese friend calls me Rice Queen 'cause I always dig the Asian guys we pass while walking places. Heehee.

Okay, no one's going to get this, and no one's going to care, but for those who few who do, the joke is just hysterically funny... so, at one of the recent US presidential candidate debates (which seem to happen about once a week), I was reading a recap from this hysterical commentator at Time Magazine, and he was reporting how Rick Santorum kept requesting to "butt in" to a particular conversation, and this commentator was pointing out how unwise it was for Santorum to use that particular language, given the definition of his name bestowed on Google by someone who (fairly rightfully, I think) sees him as a "repulsive bigot,"...

0

HAHAHA!

Santorum jokes never get old, probably because he keeps trying to get past that definition. But he should realize by now the internet is forever.

0

Right? I'd feel sorry for him, but he is pretty much a jackass, in terms of any of the values I care about.

0

BTW, if anyone wants to know why I care about this, just see any of Rick Santorum's many despicable comments about gay people (among other things, but those are the most egregious) ... and then Google his last name :)

0

NCIS IS AWESOME!!!! YAY!!!

Ha... haven't watched it years though but have enough of my former Fangirl (plus Fanfiction writer) to have to but in :D

And yeah... I think being a fan of K dramas and even asian dramas in general does tend to make it difficult to find western guys attractive... I mean how can they compete?

^sighs^ my standards are WAY to high now...

I think we had decided that you rated jo gook over mitt romney! Mitt Romney does a similar intense stare, but I think it means he wants to do bad things with me. I think it's unfortunate he's actually named Mitt.

0

I"m not sure what his mother was thinking when she picked that name.....or is it a nickname?

0

Ooh, I can answer this (of course):

His first name is “Willard,’’ after the hotel magnate J. Willard Marriott, his father’s best friend.

His middle name comes from his father’s cousin, who played quarterback for the Chicago Bears from 1925 to 1929. That cousin’s name was “Milton’’ and his nickname was “Mitt’’ — a totally understandable preference for a football player.

Evidently, at a fairly young age, "Willard" indicated a preference for the name "Mitt," and that's how he's been known since.

0

well, frankly, I'd prefer Mitt to Willard. So now I get it, lol.

0

In reply to ahjummabunny:

Yes, if you put the two of them in front of me to choose from, OF COURSE I'd pick Jo Gook over Mitt Romney, but the thing is, Jo Gook isn't out there in front of me in the news every day, and Mitt is... so my infatuation keeps getting fed... how much longer do I have to wait for the next damn debate, anyway? :)

(And by the way, I find it strangely hilarious when media people refer to him -- no doubt in a derogatory way -- as "Mittens")

0

Well first off after watching KD all guys must be 180cm tall minimum :-)

Of the list...only Mark Harmon qualifies as sexy. Not hot though just good ol' fashion sexy. Sort of like Sean Connery. Like 20 years ago.

Hmm... I've had a personal bone to pick with Sean Connery for a long time (stemming from his portrayal of a character I loved in the movie version of a novel, when I had pictured that character completely differently), but I've seen his appeal more as I've gotten older.

But I'm not sure we're thinking of the same Mark Harmon... is this the guy who was the teacher in some US sitcom I can't think of the name of, back in the late 80s/early 90s?

0

Don't remember a sitcom...I do remember him being in St Elsewhere.

0

OK, evidently I was completely confused. The sitcom I was thinking of was Head of the Class, and in my mind (from my [quite] younger years watching that show), the teacher looks now like how I think Mark Harmon looked then... but obviously I'm wrong on all counts. Can anyone else see where I was coming from, or am I completely delusional on this score?

0

Sethe wasn't head of the class Howard Hessman?

0

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090444/

Yes, evidently you're right. Does anyone out there know who I could possibly be thinking of who looks like Mark Harmon, during more or less this era, who was in a TV show (this was kinda like junior high, maybe early high school for me, so maybe I can be forgiven for not remembering completely)?

0

Sean Connery in a kilt.....gah....

I freely and openly admit that I have a thing for men in kilts...I blame it on my Scots-Irish ancestry.

Broadway (Taye Diggs, Anthony Rapp)

0

Actually being she's in Miami, she might be thinking of the movie, they reprised their roles on film. It rates watching every 6 months or so in our house - if you've never seen it try it!

0

JoAnne, I adore you for picking that up. Not only do I like Rent, but I can tell you what shows every single one of those actors were in and if they won Tony's or not...

And just so you know, I'm a gunho Broadway fan (the kind that gets mad at Glee for butchering amazing music...). I'm talking original John Larson cast who could barely make it through opening night. With Daphne Rubin-Vega as Mimi and not Rosario Dawson. The one where Jesse Martin RIPS on the I'll cover you reprise. And Idina Menzel worked Over the Moon way better. The version that actually HAS Christmas Bells. I've seen it 3 times, once on broadway, once in NC and once down here.

In terms of the film, I do think the Tango Maureen was well filmed and choreographed and Take Me or Leave me was quite sexy. I loved the vocals on Livin' in AMerica but the filming killed it. I missed the messages on the machine...but that show was MEANT for the stage and the scaffolding and the band in the corner. It's so epic.

Phew...ok, sorry, my Kdrama obsession came AFTER my 20 year Broadway obsession...my mother's a New Yorker and we're all singers...

So putting that out there. Favorite musicals anyone? As for me: Rent (obviously), A Chorus Line, L5Y (my dream role), Snoopy!!! The Musical, Miss Saigon, Hair, Lion King, Spamalot, Avenue Q, 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling B, Anything Goes, Into the Woods, the Fantasticks (RIP Jerry Orbach my hero), Candide (Barbara Cook...amen), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Nortbert Leo Butz...), Fiddler (although not my favorite, but I wouldn't be a good broadway baby if I didn't list it), Peter Pan, Cinderella,

There is one musical I can't Stand: Oklahoma. Just...no. Kill me.

Wow - you've seen a lot! I live much closer and come no where near you but my neighbors go quite a bit (their daughter is a fabulous singer and at one point she considered a career on the stage - she's since decided she wants to be a jet pilot in the AF, and is in college/ROTC/taking flying lessons.).

I think I have to say Wicked is my favorite - saw it with Idina and Kristin, royalty both. I've seen other stuff - Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Wiz, Music Man, more but I can't remember (no coffee yet) but I also love musical movies - Brigadoon, Rent, Across the Universe, Mamma Mia, Singing in the Rain, White Christmas, Holiday Inn, etc etc etc

0

OMG Hair yes I forgot that one, and Fiddler I've probably seen half a dozen time between movies and productions, but never on Broadway.

0

JoAnne Unni, everytime I go to New York/England I make myself watch at least 2 shows. NYC is always an expensive trip for me.

I've seen Wicked twice, once in Miami and once on Broadway with Shoshona Bean (Truth be told, I was misting Kristin Chenowith. I have a total short girl crush on her cause she's shorter than me...and thats hard to do. Plus, you know, she rocks at singing. Have you heard her sing glitter and be gay? She plays Cunegonde in Candide. That is vocal prowess baby. I love Barbara Cook, but KC's technique blows Barbara's out of the water (plus, she's hysterical):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVsLMxam21I )

Can you tell I'm a Chenowith fan? Anyway, Wicked was fabulous. I've definitely burned a hole in my CD. My sister just saw Hair and got pulled on stage by Berger to dance *oh Berger...sob*. I think I cried out of jealousy. She was the YOUNGEST person in the audience (21) and everyone thought she was adorable singing along. My sister is absolutely adorable by the way!

Movie musicals are great too. Barbara Streisand totally owns that market. Ha.

0

Where was I yesterday when all this goodness was happening?
I love musicals, though the only one I've seen in stage is Wicked. I was soooo great to watch it in NY. I play de CD over and over in my car.
The rest, I've just seen them in movies.
My family isn't into musicals, so they don't understand my love for them.

0

zgznoona - welcome to the fold of musicals. Now that I know there are several of us here, I will definitely keep bringing up the topic!

0

Yay! for Gibbs, Michael Weatherly, Taye Diggs

I would like to add Johnny Depp (the main reason I watched 21 jump street), Shemar Moore, Chris O'Donnell (I can't believe he has 5 kids!)

I am strange as at first I don't find k-actors hot then after seeing them act (or staring at their faces on my screen for hours on end) all of a sudden I find them irresistibly hot.

Ok...the converstation between Liam Neeson and his son about how you know it's love...Hugh Grant dancing...the little girl singing...THE WEDDING recessional? OMG. Sigh...the placards. Hugh Grant searching the whole street, door by door...Ok I usually don't start watching it again until November (and then watch it over and over until January) but its almost November, right?

0

OMG and that brazilian guy, sitting at the end of the bed. I remember watching Laura Linney do the little dance on the stairs when the trailers were on tv and thinking "I'm going to love this forever." I was right, and i had NO IDEA how awesome that movie would turn out to be. At the end when it pulls back from the scene at the airport and all those vignettes start playing? I cry every.single.time. MJP fantastic suggestions. I am behind those as well. Julliet Marillier too. Love her books. Well, I havne't read the newer ones. Just the Sevenwaters Trilogy. If you're into bizarre humor, try Greg Macguire who wrote Wicked (what the Broadway musical is based off of. It not like the musical at ALL or rather, the musical isn't like the book.) But he wrote The Ugly Stepsister, Son of a Witch (sequel to Wicked), MIrror, Mirror. If you like nonfiction Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain by Oliver Sacks. AMAZING!

JoAnne Unni- I totally only read SOAW to conclude Liir's story. I hated the Ugly StepSister til I read the end and then LOVED it. That was the best ending of a book I've ever read. I actually read Wicked the book before the musical came out and I was curious to how they would adapt such a snarky character - and they made her not snarky.

1. So, for my new found love of Won Bin, I decided to get through Autumn in My Heart. I deserve a f***ing medal. Or a piggy-back from Won Bin (after a night of drinking, of course). There was nothing enjoyable about that drama. And nothing ever happened. People had feelings, and cried about other people's feelings. And they were sick.

Although, I must admit that it had an (unintentionally) awesome ending. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Gotta love the Mean Girls-esque ending and actually... ya know... going there.

2. As I watched aforementioned drama on dramafever, I finally saw the new Lee Min-Ho Camry commercial, which is awesome/awesomely cheesy. First of all, let's get this out of the way: Damn, Lee Min-Ho is hot. Secondly: the first time I watched it, everything happened so fast that when they came to the freeze frame at the end, and it was two Lee Min-Ho's staring intensely at each other, I squee'd out loud. Is he in an OTP WITH HIMSELF!? Sadly, some random girl interrupted their incestuous (?) bromance.

That is when I decided that someone needs to write a drama in which Lee Min-Ho is in the OTP with himself. Like the Ouran twins, but... even hotter than that.

3. A quick PSA for all my American TV-viewing chingus. Community is an awesome show, but its ratings are terribly low, and I'm hearing rumors that it is on the verge of being cancelled. So if you are at all a fan, please please please try to watch it live and get those ratings up! Study group Hwaiting! Thus endeth PSA.

Oh yeah En subs. Man he's another hottie I must withdraw from. All I can think of is PMY kissed him, then kissing In Woo and then Yeong Gwang.

Did she save Korea in her previous life?

That CF's awesomely cheesy! I half expected GHS to show up because of LMH's song in BOF, though I thought at first the girl was PMY.

speaking of this commercial, my sister was watching coffee house and told me she is interested in the drama called the one and only that's being advertised. I was going crazy trying to find this new drama and then I saw commercial just now while watching bad guy and so I had to send her a text straight away to tell her it's just a commercial but she can see that guy in a drama called city hunter.

Hah! That's her story and I bet she's sticking to it!

Sure he did, hon. I believe you. *pats on head*

0

I'm confused... LMH is advertising Camrys? Aren't those Japanese cars?

Plus (I think I've made this plug before), I had a Camry and 2 Hyundais, and the Hyundais were infinitely more reliable than the Camry... tons of problems with the Camry, but none with the Hyundais. (And doesn't CSW advertise for Hyundai? Have to support him, right? :) )

0

And you took the Camry and not LMH. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!

0

LMAO Raine!

Maybe Jomo decide keeping her zen life is more important than to start a cat fight w/ PMY while she realize her bf's been missing after delivering some Camryes.

0

Carinne - I totally have a yellow belt (level 2) in character. Think I could take her on? :P With my Italian/Spanish/Polish/Russian background, I can surely yell my way through the match....

0

Rainie, I like your optimism. Give it to her!

So this means you're getting a Camry delivered to you pretty soon, right? kkk~ Be sure to invite me to watch the match. It'll be like watching a tennis match. kkk~ You can borrow my black belt... w/ crystal sparkles. LOL! It is known as a lucky belt.

0

Carinne- there is no way I can lose whilst wearing a black belt with sparkles. Bring it on Min-young ssi. We'll see who runs away in the camry with Min-ho!

0

TiaC - LMH as an OTP with himself? Yes, please!

I've been avoiding all the seasons dramas cause that kinda stuff just bogs down my brain...

Shiku, he is a very good actor who improves with each project. Even with that horrid hair obstructing him in BoF, the character material he was given to work with was very nicely portrayed (I HATE GJP!!!!!) And he has a lovely speaking voice. I know CH is his crowning glory and he deserves it, but his other work is also very good.

Couple of months ago, I have brought up some issues regarding celebrity sex scandal. Recently, there is another round of scandal, but was suppressed by the Korean media.

The photos and HD videos involved 37 actresses and models were leaked into the Chinese websites. The news apparently was suppressed in China major cities. A Website from Sihuan province reported the incident. it was a stolen hard disk from a Korean top government official's home.

Deep Internet search revealed that 109G of videos had been broadcasted through the Internet in US, China and Hong Kong sites.

The first seven of the implicated actresses had already committed suicide and died. There is only one guy in the videos. He is a Japanese. if you think Edison Chan case is outrages, I believe this scandal is potential very big and dirty.

Do your own homework, you will see some of your favorite actresses in action. So far, I spotted one A list actress that i used to like very much, but now more of praying that she doesn't follow the footsteps of the first 7 ladies!!

My intention to speak up is that to remind all the ladies here to live within your means, and follow right livelihood. Otherwise, you will be the prayers of hungry wolves!!!

it is sad and feel very sorry for those pretty girls.

If this is so serious, why are you posting this at this site and not at some legitimate news site? It's not being suppressed by the Korean media. The reason why it's not being reported is because those allegations are false. The "actresses" or models or whatever, are all Japanese AV actresses. Do you really think if Korean actresses were involved, especially A-list ones, the Chinese media would not cover it? The Chinese media is notorious for leaking and sensationalizing anything with a hint of a scandal. The reason why this "scandal" hasn't blown up is because it isn't true, as far as it involving Koreans actresses. I feel like the people who keep bringing this up, including you, have a dark objective against K-entertainment, for whatever reason.
Anyway, if you have proof, do share. Otherwise, I'm pretty confident everything you've posted are lies.

Yeah, I know the videos you're talking about. It's clear those women are Japanese, and it's disgusting what's been done to them because it's clear they didn't even know they were being filmed. The guy or whoever is behind it is scum.
Point me to a legitimate Chinese news article (from an accredited Chinese news source) that talks about this scandal, because I have not come across one. Anything that's been posted on the web has been flimsy gossip and tabloid fodder, from the so-called "news" sites.

Can you tell me how to determine the credential of the Chinese newspaper?

0

Lol Mirror, if you have to ask me that then it should be clear how reliable (as in, not) the source you're getting your info from is.

0

I think you are right, the Original source is from Japan, but the girls are definitely Koreans.

after a careful examination of the photos and videos, phew, the A-list look alike is definitely not the A-List. My apology!! As for the rest of the so called "actresses", I have no idea who they are?

0

I think you need to "re-examine" them again. They're all Japanese. They're even speaking in Japanese (without a hint of an accent). You need to be more careful the next time you post a claim as bold and discriminatory as this. It's disgusting to link to any female, and here, you're linking it to the whole crop of K-actresses. You're doing as much harm as the scum who filmed those girls.

0

Have you looked at all the links? I looked at two in particular in relation to the one who looks like an A List, she is definitely a Korean. The other random one is also a Korean. You need to check your facts too, before barking like a stray dog!!!

0

You're the one who started barking first buddy. You should be prepared for such criticism when your original statement is so defamatory, and yet you've proven how unreliable it is.
I'm sure I hurt your feelings in my last comment, but it's true, you need to be careful if you're going to post something as bold and as wrongfully damaging as that.
Kindly link me to those videos with "Korean actresses" in them, because no, I have not come across any that were.

0

I won't provide the link because it helps to spread the anti Korean wave movement in Japan. You should go back to the 芸能 Korean Entertainment sites and re-examine all of the videos!! The burden of proof snow with you since you claimed all of them is Japanese!!!

0

Oh God, then why did you post in the first place? How is your original comment any different from spreading the "anti-Korean" wave? When you say K-entertainment is run by the Japanese mafia? WTF? The burden of proof falls on you since you're the one making those defamatory claims in the first place. And again, you fail to come up with anything.

0

Hehe...don't trick me to give you the link, I will never do so. This scandal runs a lot deeper than surface, big corporations, senior government officials and Japanese mafia are all behind. Otherwise, you see, all those girls are out there to please that guy. They did not reveal the guy's face. Most importantly, those girls are of very quality, not the Japanese AV sort.

The alleged A list leaked was exquisite, I think she is even looked better than the A List, overall!!!

0

Everything you post is so hypocritical, it's kind of ridiculous. You sound like you actually enjoy this scandal. "Exquisite?" Really? How disgusting of you. There's a simple reason why you're not posting any proof, you don't have any.

0

Why are you getting so adamant, I just hope you are not one of the 37. By hook or by crook, I am not giving you the link!! You need to do your own homework. Nice try!!!

I just hope you're not the guy behind those videos because you're coming off very sketchy. I'm a guy, you don't have to worry about me being a victim. Originally you said big A-list actresses are involved, and that K-entertainment is run by the Japanese mafia. What type of response did you expect? For people to just take your word for it when it's such a disgusting claim? I know those claims you made are bullsh.t, so why should I not refuting them? And you make it easy to refute when you keep making excuses for not posting your so-called "proof."

0

Eh, you are running out of arguments aren't you? Now you're not even trying to defend your claims.

0

Absolutely sure, you are a female!!! My original stance and intention remains the same. The key facts remain that at least 2 of the girls are Korean!!

This reply to you is final!!

0

Yeah, so you're wrong on all counts then. Why would you think I'm a girl? Because I'm agruing with you about something that concerns females? We're not all scums, that's the moral here. And women should be respected, that's another one.

0

Ha! I'm not that optimistic...
I suppose it helps that I lost all of my K drama files ^It still fills me with tears^ and have such rubbish internet as it means I have a limit to how much I can watch...
(2GB a DAY!!! How am I meant to cope? Before I found out about it and became more careful I used that much up in 5 MINUTES!!! How am I suppose to cope? ^sobs and has an emotional breakdown^)

^Pulls self togther^ But anyway... I don't understand what I need to write the essay on so it's been very very easy for me to delay starting it... :(

^sighs^ This is how I failed all of my previous exams....

0

You lost your drugs?!
I can't imagine losing my precious babies.
I'll have an emotional breakdown and probably wear black for the rest of the week.

My report is pretty straight forward but that's part of the problem. It's too simple. Too simple!!!
How in the world am I suppose to fill up 15 pages with such a topic?

Again, I lament the fact that the world doesn't have a K-dramalogy course. I would totally write a report for that course, with zeal, in fact!

0

Ha!! So true :D When I go to Korea I am totally signing up for a k drama course (What doya mean they might not have one?)

And I know I would do well at that cause currently Mandarins the only subject I'm doing well at :D
My Teacher even points me out as an example of good study habits (LOL.... anyone who knows me wouldn't believe that...)

Now I just need to start working in psychology (even if I swear we are just doing stupid child development at the mo which I HATE!!!) and I'm sorted :D

.... maybe?

0

If you find such course, then please sign me up too!
We'll be such badass students, I can already tell. We'd be pointing out major plot points that everyone else missed and be so smug about out supreme knowledge. LOL

You can speak Mandarin? I need that skill here. I'm always with a blank look on my face because the people here converse in mandarin & Cantonese all the time! Sheesh.

Psychology sounds so interesting. I have to study computer systems this semester. It's COMPULSORY. Ugh, hate that word.
I'm not much of a computer-savvy guy so I'm sure it'll help me in the future, but the lectures bore me to tears! I couldn't care less about MIDI ports, SOHO user, expansion slots, input devices and all those whatchamacallit.

0

Yeah of course I speak fluent Mandarin... had to teach myself as I live in a un-multi cultural hellhole...

Lol... nah I've only just started (like 4 weeks?) but am so far top of the class (by quite a way if I am honest) due to my watching of dramas and - don't judge- former love of Fei lun hai....

^sighs^

I would totally love a drama watching course :D I'm sure I would also learn to be critical and write proper essays as well.... perhaps?

And psychology IS interesting just not stupid development stuff :(

And the computer stuff sounds sucky :(

0

I think I should take up mandarin/cantonese lessons too. It'll be easier for to communicate with the locals here. No more awkward silences when they say something to me in Chinese but I answered in English.

Yep, the computer sounds sucky. It's not as bad as it sounds though. I'm sure most people would find it interesting. I'm just not much of a techno junkie to really enjoy it, I suppose.

Required fields are marked *

You are seriously making me feel very interested to know more about that man, Sethe!

The tough part is when you have to start making friends and foster relationships all over again. For someone who enjoys interacting with other people, I felt somewhat lonely here for the first week. I could blame the language barrier but really it was partly my fault. I kept to myself most of the times, not talking to anyone and went straight to the library or went back to my apartment after lectures ended.

Then the work started to pile up. Reports, papers and essays to write. I remember thinking that my hair is going to thin out if I start to crumble under all the pressure. That was when it hit me. Why not ask some of my course mates for help and opinions? Some of the topics were tough so I figured I could use all the help I could get.

I'm glad I made that decision. At least I have companions and I'm starting to open up and talk more now. Plus, the workload is lighter since I got valuable input from them. Kill two birds with one stone, I say!

0

@Sethe (sis from another mother)

I still can't believe you find Mitt Romney attractive. Did you get a lobotomy? Does he have dirt on you and blackmailing you into finding him attractive? Did he threaten physical harm or maybe he cast a spell on you? Or maybe threaten to take Cha Seung Won from us and you decided to take one for the team? Your sacrifice is much appreciated!

*scratches head, kneels down and prays for Sethe's sanity*

0

@Shiku

I know, it's totally crazy and inexplicable... but that's how love is, right? :)

Yes, if I heard anyone else saying what I'm saying (that they're in love with Mitt Romney), I'd think they were as loony as Herman Cain or Michele Bachmann (little political joke there, ha ha ;) ), but the heart feels what the heart feels...

0

@ Ricky

I'm glad you seem to be finding some friends (or at least companions). Yeah, leaving everyone you know and meeting all new people is difficult. It does sound like you're coping pretty well, though, so I'm happy to hear that. Hope you continue to make friends, and hope the workload is manageable, and perhaps even fun :)

I'll be honest for a minute (okay, the other two things I'm always totally honest about here are my love for CSW and my love for Mitt Romney :) ) and say that I almost don't bother getting close to people where I live/work anymore, since I have a pattern of moving/changing jobs every year or two. That pattern was started in childhood, when I went to a different elementary school almost every year, and I've continued it into adulthood... I could be the poster child for Attachment Disorder :)

0

@ Sethe

That's the problem with me. I constantly crave human interaction. I'm too talkative so I need friends or companions but I'm too paranoid to trust easily.

So how do you cope with that? Don't you get lonely when you were younger? Feel free to ignore this question if it makes you uncomfortable.

0

@Ricky

I'm generally pretty flippant/sarcastic here, but to be honest for one more minute, the truth is that I've developed a lot of maladaptive coping mechanisms over the years... if I were to go into detail, I think a lot of people here might really judge me, so let's just leave it at that...

0

Ricky TRH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Runs to Ricky and envelops in a big bear HUG*

Your Noona has missed you! I read all your posts too! I hope I didn't miss you completely and that you will be checking back at some point.

Glad to hear you are settling into a routine. I just want to hug you all the more when I read some of your posts. Then I want to fly to where you are and cook you some american food and bring my brood with me so that you will have some company. Teen MJP speaks Mandarin, so I would have him help you learn a few basic sentences to get by with. MJP Hubby would bring some computer equipment and set up two monitors, so you can study and watch dramas at the same time. (This is what he does.)
Wee MJP would be your play time buddy, making sure you got lots of exercise with running, jumping, dancing, and playing cars. Of course, I would be your drama watching buddy also.

Nice dream...

But it sounds like you are doing just fine! Did I ever tell you about [www.byki.com]? Free, of course. Teaches different languages. I don't know if it is available in other countries. Always worth a good look-see.

We are doing alright here. Trying to figure out a date night. Hopefully!!!

I love that fantasy. It would be my honor to spend time with your family. I'm sure MJP Hubby (or rather MJP Hyung) can teach me a few stuff about computers too since I'm having a compulsory computer class now. And I would have some serious fun with those MJP Dongsaengs. We can have shallow and deep discussions about dramas as well, MJP!

Yippee! The link works. I'll be sure to use it to my advantage when I have my language course next two semesters. Thanks for the help. *bookmarks site*

The family is doing fine. I've talked to them via Skype a few times. Thank goodness for technology! And I'm mostly well too. Just the occasional rare migraine when I don't get enough sleep. Funny how I never get migraine after spending the whole night watching dramas. Haha :)

No, I don't have roomie. I'm staying in an apartment all by myself. Sometimes I wish I had one, but I think it would be too embarrassing if another person is in the vicinity and I'm guffawing or bawling my eyes out when I watch a drama episode. My roomie might think I'm deranged :)

All the best for that date night. What's the plan?

Ricky TRH,

Planning a date is now a tricky thing. Our babysitters are all teenage girls. We now have a teenage boy. We have a dilemma of not leaving a teenage boy and a teenage girl home without adult supervision. Also, the babbysitters don't like to work on Saturday night, only Friday night as, in our area, teens do most of their stuff on Saturday nights. Our teenage boy also only informs us of plans at the last minute and the babysitters require advance notice because they have lives too. So we are stuck.

There are rules and regulations that came with our teen. I am not allowed to ask him for any help in watching my natural children. He wouldn't do a good job of it anyway because, let's face it, he is very self-absorbed... He's a teenage boy.

How old is Teen MJP?
When I was a teenager (not too long ago, in fact), I was too cocky and show-off-y for my own good, but I was too scared of my mom to rebel and create any major problems. That woman can say the sweetest thing in the world and still make it sounds like a dead threat. Add the fact that I have a no-nonsense father, I'm pretty much all about the Talk, and never the Walk.

I had no idea that it takes so much complicated planning just to have a date night. It's easier when you only have Wee MJP but now that you've got the teenager, it's even more complex. A solution would be to find a boy sitter, but that's hard. Impossible, even.

0

Ricky TRH,

He is a fresh 17. In fact, it's currently 11:17 p.m. EST and he is out. We have no idea where he is at, who he is with and what he is doing. He legally has to be inside by Midnight, so I hope he comes home soon.

MJP Hubby saw him at a local mall by accident earlier this evening. He was all alone walking around.

I confess, it's very different when it's not your birth child. There isn't a "bond" an "emotional connection" as one would have with a natural teenage child of 17 yrs.

0

Ricky TRH,

He just came home. 11:23 p.m. EST. Just went straight to his room, not a word to me... Sigh... Teenagers.

0

Wow, 11.23pm? If I did that, my mom would probably send out a whole search battalion to drag my butt back home.

You've only known him for a few months, so I think it's natural. Give him some time, he'll grow out of it. Teen boys need to feel some measure of freedom and also some attention otherwise they would start to rebel. Just see to it that he doesn't get involved in any harmful or negative activities. By 17, boys generally have a pretty good sense of who they are so they're not easily swayed. However it's the age where we start to feel most manly, hence the desire to be independent and try out new things. I'm speaking from experience btw so I'm not sure if Teen MJP feels the same way.

It's tough being a parent, no? I'm not sure how I could cope in the future.

0

Yes, it is tough. I am restraining myself from going down and telling him how worried I was for him.

What are you doing today, got any specific plans? Gonna get some jogging/hiking/walking in? Or did you already? It is day where you are at now, right? Is the weather hot or cold, sunny or rainy?

0

Yes, it's currently around 2pm here. I'm not going out today. Planning to stay in and edit my report. Hmm maybe watch some episodes too. It's always raining in the evening here. In any case, I don't really have anyone to go out with yet.

0

Ricky TRH,

I can empathize! I so hated doing things alone when I was single. Now I just crave alone time!

MJP Hubby just came upstairs. He says "Hi!" He's getting ready to go to bed. It's easy to remember what time it is, since we are 12 hours different, you and I. I asked you the time earlier just to make sure you didn't have a time change, possibly we may have a 30 minute additional difference.

I should get going too and call it a night. MJP Hubby is teasing me because I am making typos. He says it is 3 o'clock in the morning grammar.

I hope you venture forth into the great outdoors if just for a few minutes to actually view your surroundings. Happy editing and drama watching!

0

"MJP Hyung" ????? Don't you mean "MJP Hyung-NIM"??? Where's the respect, haksaeng?

Hi Ricky!

Why are you ignoring me? *throws tantrum*

How is school life? Do you miss being the one to hand-out assignments instead of receiving them? How is HK3? I haven't started watching as the subs are slow and the last time I checked it was only out to ep 4.

Oh, Shiku dearest. I'm definitely not ignoring you. I just went to get some sleep.

LOL :D
You just cracked me up with that one. Sometimes I get the terrible itch to yell "Good morning, class!" whenever I enter my classes. And yeah, I miss holding the red pen most of all. It's terrible knowing that you're no longer the Alpha person or the center of attention in that room. But I think that's just my vanity speaking. Heh

High Kick 3 is good! It's short which fits in my busy schedule nicely, the plot moves fast and I like how it is flexible. Gah, my description is not doing the show any justice! Basically I enjoy watching the interactions between the characters. Although we know the relationship ties between them, I like how the writers show that everyone can be with someone else. So many possibilities since we still have 100 episodes to go.

I don't know where you are watching it, but on the site which I frequent it has already been subbed until episode 17 or 18.

Ricky TRH,

I hope you don't mind me butting it, but who is it on the show that is considered "Short Legs?"

Isn't the full title, "High Kick 3: Revenge of the Short Legs?

LOL!

It boggles my mind too! But I think I found the reason behind it.

"PD Kim Byung-wook, the director behind the helm for all three seasons, explained the name as a sort of “losers fight back” motif; a high kick is more effective with long legs, so those with short legs are disadvantaged from the start. With the original series titled Unstoppable High Kick and the sequel named High Kick Through the Roof, I suppose you could say this one’s more like a Stoppable High Kick, har har. What, was High Kick That Doesn’t Quite Reach The Ceiling already taken?"

It's taken from Dramabeans :)

Ha Ha Ha!!!

Which website is it?
I like the title 'counterattack of the short legs' such a fun title.

Can I just express my love for In time with you here? It truely is amazing and it has totally made me love Taiwannese Dramas again in an apprieciation of quality way (as Taiwan Dramas and Quality? Not often useable in the same sentance...)

And seeing as Material Queen is getting so hard to watch I'm not sure I can even finish it (but I will, I finished Myung wol the spy so I can finish anything) I was wondering if people know of any good older Taiwannese dramas?

Or Chinese dramas which are good as well as they use simplified charecters and I really need to pratice my Mandarin...

Thanks!!!!

HOWEVER I am watching OB this weekend do or die!! Nothing is going make me miss it.

0

My secret is rationing (although it's not like I have much choice having such rubbish internet...) so I say to myself I will only watch one episode a day of a series so for example this week I watched one episode of ITWY a day and will wtach one sunday and I will have caught up...

However given I have so many series I am watching this doesn't really help....

And what's OB?

0

Ojakgyo Brothers it's the 50 ep weekend drama with UEE. It's awesome :-) Ep 25 tomorrow. Yay!!!

I tried those two (I'm in the UK too) but they haven't been working properly.

Well, I didn't try downloading (have never done this before) but was streaming online... but maybe I just need to bite the bullet and download?

0

hmmm with "In time with you" I use Viki and it's been working fine for me and I've looked and I couldn't find softsubs or hardsubbed version but then again if you speak Mandarin (which I unfortunately don't) then that won't be a problem...

0

Don't speak Mandarin... and it's not on top of my list of language either (tackling Korean & Japanese first, and that's sufficient because I don't think I would be able to handle three non-Latin writing systems).

I will just give Viki another try, maybe at a different time of day or something. My internet connection isn't great, so that may be part of the problem.

totally love ITWY... Ariel is always good and Bolin chan is great.. this is my first drama of Boliin and he is excellent... now that u mentioned it about Bolin looking like GY... i can sort see the similarity... oh about the OST.. Bolin song is totally great as well.. it matches the drama so well.. it's call 'I Do Not Like You'.. so cute..!

the first part of the song goes like this:

I think I will not love you
I try very very hard not to love you
therefore I let myself to like you so much
so that you will not have the heart to leave me

so cute.

0

Totally agree with you abt BC's acting in ITWY similar to GY's!! haven't seen much of both actors so kinda drawing this comment only off of ITWY and CP!! oh, and didn't know BC's a singer AS WELL!! oh, these multi-talented ppl!!

0

Agree above, Office Girls will let you unwind some stress. Add currently airing Ring Ring Bell and later in Dec there's Extravagant Challenge aka Skip Beat.

I also suggest...

... from TW ~ PS Man, The Outsiders, Summer's Desire, Autumn's Concerto, Knock Knock Loving You, My Queen, Wind and Cloud, The Fierce Wife (on my TO DO LIST).

... from CHN ~ The Diamond Family, That Love Comes, Dark Fragrance.

The best stuff were made long, long ago when TW made extensive melos where you'd cry buckets of tears. Hard to find nowadays, and I thought Bu Bu Jing Xin was half decent a series than those way back when on VHS.

Hi everyone! :) first time posting here, always been a lurker up till now.

Anyway, been watching In Time With You (1st Taiwan drama I've watched in years, last one was Hana Kimi hahahaah) and it's really good! Though sometimes I really do want to reach into the screen and shake up the guy and tell him to SAY SOMETHING to the girl, and not be so passive. Taking a break from the usual k dramas I'm always watching cos no k drama really interests me right now, awesome choice to start watching itwy.

To anyone who's looking for a drama to watch... Go watch itwy! Though the 1st episode for me was rather boring... Subsequent episodes' awesomeness will be worth it! And how cute is Bolin chen's dimple(s)??! Argh not looking forward to the angst which sure is heading our way now with the entrance of the 2nd lead, cos angst = no smiles = no dimples! Ah, well.

Happy Friday and wish that everyone will have a great weekend ahead! Can't wait for Sunday's new episode ^^

I spent this week having a Ha Jeong-woo binging spree. I finished up H.I.T. which had a satisfying ending cause nothing beats 20 hours of investment to be left saying to yourself "rats!" then I watched The Chaser, I know! Serial killer blood and gore. Great movie though, perfection for Halloween which then led me to Never Forever cause apparently I like going backwards in time but this movie (infertility/infidelity) was full of passion and music to match. I highly recommend it, so ha!

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE HJW!
You get to see a LOT of him in Never Forever...sigh...He did a great job with his english dialogue.

You know he has a small but great role in Lovers in Prague.
For other films:
My Dearest Enemy! Absolutely becoming my favorite "drop in and hang out" movie with JDY, who was in LiPrague
He has a small but intense role in She's on Duty.
Kindof an icky movie, but he is in Time (Kim Ki-duk film) and you can see all of it on YouTube.
The Yellow Sea is very intense, like The Chaser.
Good role (nasty character) in The Moonlight of Seoul with YKS!
I have on Breath my hard drive, but I haven't been able to get past the first few minutes.

A lot of his other films you can get on My Asian Cinema.
Can't wait till The Client is out on whatever media I can get my hands on.

Hey, ya'll. Hey, Ricky, nice to see you're still alive out there.

Been a pretty lean Kdrama week, too sick to care and too much to do when I don't feel like crap. I hate whatever this is, I seem to get it every fall. Last year, I bought stuff for my teenyboppers halloween costume, then got too sick to sew, so she borrowed a renaissance dress from a friend. This year, I think I could sew it up if I had all the stuff, but sadly, I can't figure out what I was thinking last year when I bought what I did, lol. (I hate my ADD brain sometimes). Church halloween party is tomorrow night....I may have to call in the sisterwives. I surely don't know what I"d do without them. And I love when I get to do payback and play with their littlies.

I did watch a few eps of The Musical, which I suspect I'd like better with someone other than GHS. Love Daniel Choi, though. And I watched a bit of Tree with Hidden Roots, seriously impressed with SJK's performance. That kid is going to go places for sure. I'd like to watch Man of Honor, but it's so hard to stay awake to watch anything when I'm drugged.....

0

I'm trying out In Time With You. Man of Honor doesn't interest me. I think it's the genre.

0

In Time With You...is that Kdrama or Tdrama or whatever other dramas there are?

0

It's a T-drama with the Boy-Girl Best Friends or Couple as a subject. Kinda good

0

Caught up on Man of Honor, it's OK so far. Went to the Dr this morning, she thinks maybe pneumonia, so tomorrow for xrays.

Good excuse to sit here and watch tv some more. I think I'll try ITWY....

0

Hey, Shel. Sorry you're sick. I'm not equating you with my mom here (I think I'm probably closer to your age than you are to hers), but I have such fond memories of all the years she used to sew my Halloween costumes... your daughter is lucky to have a mom who can do that for her (even if it doesn't work out this year).

Agree with you about The Musical... might be much more inclined to watch/like it if it weren't for Jan-di (although, I think I may have commented before... she was one of the first kdrama heroines I saw, and I was completely disgusted by her evident helplessness/stupidity, but then I saw some other kdrama heroines (Oh Ha-ni, anyone?), and came to realize that Jan-di was actually a paragon of toughness and capability...)...

Ohayou and Happy Friday, minasan! Sorry that I have to post-and-run again -- I'm already late for a meeting but wanted to get this out there before disappearing for the rest of the day. Again. Sigh...

Any Dramabeaners in the Bay Area want to join me sometime next weekend (4 November) for a screening of the Gong Yoo movie "Silenced" (aka "The Crucible")? It's premiering at the Century 20 Great Mall over in Milpitas, and I believe will only be here for one week (but may be extended, depending on the demand). If there is enough interest, I will volunteer to 'herd the cats' in order to have a nice group attend. And yes, it will be English subbed. Score!!

Also, three promotional posters for the T-ara MV "Cry Cry" were announced yesterday. They're splashed everywhere on the Internet Tubes, and me likey very much! Nice stylized 1970's-style gangster movie graphics utilized... and both Cha Seung Won and My Precious Changwook-ssi are looking majorly HOT on them!! But guns, bullies, blood and beatings? Boy, the Korean censors are gonna have a field day with that release... :)

Be back later. In the meantime, have a great day!! HUGS!!

I have just finished The Princess' Man and wow, I'm blown away. I know there were faults and the happy ending threw some people (I admit, it threw me.) But its not all happy. It was only happy for some and as I was so invested in all of the secondary couples/characters, I still feel bereaved at their deaths and sad ends.

I really really enjoyed this watching experience. Instead of writing it here I'm going to write a review this weekend (after I work...BOO). I get to go watch parts of it again for screencaps! HOORAY!

And then I need a new show to obsess over. I think this one made my year though.

Kaleido - its so true. But most importantly for PSH's character is the acceptance and the fact that he's just LIVING after all of the obsessing. I think after all the pain he went through, the blindness is probably just another thing that he'll deal with in stride. It was the kind of character he'd grown to be. He gets to BE with his family rather than be...well, dead. And touch is the sexiest sense...just pointing that out. And if I was Se-ryung, I'd be making use of that with Seung-yoo as my hubby.... JUST SAYIN!

I also thought the blindness at the end was just one more way for Fate to stick it to SY. But then I realized that the writers had to come up for some reason why he would just drop the rebellion completely and not just because he had SR and a baby on the way.

******TPM SPOILER**********

begger1015 - Its true. Just as love was Se-ryung's catalyst for rebellion, injury is Seung-yoo's catalyst for a lifestyle change. Sometimes we need that in our lives. Half the reason he loved SR is because she supported his need. Even from the beginning she supported him.

But the blindness is somethign that could ACTUALLY happen to a warrior so the plot device actually fit in.

I just realized today how sad it was that Lady Ryu/A-gang, Jo and the gisaeng house, and all of their friends think their dead. They had to sever everything. But time really did wonders for them. Life is both bitter and can be sweet. I'm glad they showed that.

Happy Friday, all! :)

It's finally week's end and I'm in the midst of watching Who Are You? (because 49 Days and Secret Garden wasn't enough body swap/ghostly possession drama for me, apparently) and... City Hunter!

City Hunter is a very rare kdrama for me, in that I'm actually pacing myself and watching a single episode at a time in order to prolong the series. I love Yoon-Sung and Na-Na and Shik-Joong and as much as I want to find out what happens next, I really don't want it to ever end...

But when it does (*sob*), I'll have Sungkyunkwan Scandal and City Hall (Cha Seung-Won!) to watch. :)

Jdramas I'm watching in between everything else: Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi, Nobuta wo Produce and Ouran High School Host Club. Sora Kara... is fantastic, and everyone's so morally grey (or, okay, morally black, in some cases) that you're rooting for people you know you probably shouldn't be rooting for, and yet... they're so compelling - and somehow sympathetic - that you just can't help yourself.

Hi! I think you'll really enjoy Sungkyunkwan Scandal. The acting is almost universally outstanding. Beyond the gender bender hi-jinks it really is a compelling story of friendship with some interesting politics thrown in. It held my attention the hold time, which is sadly not the case with some kdramas.

And what can be said about City Hall? KIM SUN AH + CHA SEUNG WON = AWESOME. Near the end, there is this one scene that means that woman will own me forever. It involves a car and its rear-view mirror. Get ready.

I've started watching Sungkyunkwan because I simply couldn't wait and you're right - it's really enjoyable and thus far, not only are the characters and their interactions interesting, but the plot seems quite tight.

I love Kim Sun-Ah, but I have to admit that Cha Seung-Won is my main reason for wanting to watch City Hall. CSW is just... so hot. *g*

Good morning, all!
Waiting for the first snowstorm of the season here in New England (10"+), looking for the snow shovels and checking firewood. It usually does snow around Halloween, though.

Am resurfacing here, poking my head up, warily looking around for rabid GHS fangirls. Who knew that my one short, pointed remark reflecting my irritation of her acting mannerisms would bring the fangirls out of the woodwork?
148+ comments later, they told me. Sheesh. Like JB & GF said - Fangirls be scary. At least it gave me a lot of laughs (and still hasn't changed my mind - I had to drop The Musical - couldn't stand it anymore.)

Anyone read the post over at Thundie's Prattle about bad hair in K-drama? Laughed myself silly. I'd give a link to it if I knew how....

"The higher the forehead grows, the closer the space between hair and ceiling. It’s like a force that can’t be quelled." "How do they refrain from searching his hair for hatchlings and nestlings? How?" -Thundie (my hero)

(Hearing about 10" of snow makes me glad I live in Florida...It snows around Halloween in Fort Collins, where I used to live.)

NO FREAKING WAY. I'm in Mystic. My family's been here since the '30s, but I didn't grow up here - parents had moved away when I was a kid, and then came back. So when I was looking for a place to settle down after Army and marriage ended...I came 'home'.

0

I was just in Mystic this past spring. We flew into Philly, then drove up the coast to Arcadia NP in Maine. Lovely coastline and a great vacation. Spent the night near Mystic, and unfortunately were there too early in the morning to poke around much. But Mr Shel got some great photos, it was a beautiful place.

0

Shel and Cynthia - I knew it was a small world but this is just ridiculous.

For those of you not understanding the scale of things here...Mystic has about 2000 residents.

0

Omg - this is seriously funny! Mystic is lovely. My uncle was the head gardener of the Mystic Seaport for years - now my cousin Stephen is the HG. My entire family lives in Mystic & Stonington (because apparently not many of us Portuguese moved far from where our ancestors jumped ship!) Ever eat at the SeaShell? Yummy!

0

Um...Seaport is about a mile from me. The Seashell? I don't think I have ever heard of it. I live between the Seaport and Angies - so both Sea Swirl and Sea View are nearby, as well as The Cove. (I wondered if you might be Portuguese...but Old Saybrook maybe not so much, LOL). They don't do the big huge multi-day celebration of the Blessing of the Fleet anymore (but the Bishop still does come to do the Blessing) but the Portuguese Club does still do Friday Night Fish & Chips!

0

We stayed in Groton...had pizza at a great place, I think in New London. LOVED LOVED the CT coast. Went to a lighthouse, can't remember the name, but hubby would know, he got great shots and never forgets a photo spot.

0

Oh, you guys make me so nostalgic for the Northeast... went to college and med school there (MA and NH/VT) and I loved the place to death... I'm kind of a nomad, so I can't claim any US state as my "home," but I feel the most affiliation with the NE, so I'd claim you as my home if I could... :)

0

We welcome you home, Sethe - we New Englanders are not as cold as others would have everyone believe! I work in Groton, Shel - as for lighthouses, there's one in Stonington Borough at Dubois Beach, there's Ledge Light in the harbor off New London, others scattered here and there, but those two get a lot of notice. Ledge Light is supposed to be haunted...

0

JoAnne@
Sorry - I meant Sea Swirl.
Practically grew up at the Holy Ghost Club - Blessing of the Fleet was a favorite time for our family, the annual dinner the ladies put on was super. My great aunt would make tons of Masa to raffle off and everyone would argue about who would win the statue of Baby Jesus for the year. Fun times. We had to "emigrate" to O.S. (my father ran Monsanto in Deep River for years and couldn't take the daily commute from Stonington, so we relocated. It was only 40 minutes away but felt like a continent away. :)
When I married, hubby and I moved to the middle of the state - all these many years later I still miss hearing the ocean at night. **sigh**

0

Sea Swirl - my grandmother grew up on Coburn Ave and she and my grandfather raised their family on Hatch Street. I lived there myself until about 4 years ago, when I moved around the corner. When I lived on Hatch, you could actually smell the grill from Sea Swirl if the wind blew right. You probably graduated highschool in OS then...not that I went to school here, but its possible we'd know some of the same people if we're about the same age. I'll share - born in 62, so about to be 49.

0

Stonington! That's where the lighthouse was. In truth, we stopped at a LOT of lighthouses, one of hubby's favorite things to photograph. But, Stonington's was very different from the rest of them and we really loved it.

Happy Friday everyone!

Agh, Netflix must be having contract changes. Midas has completely disappeared from their selection! Same with a few others, though ones like City Hunter are at least disc only. Means I need to find something else to watch while working out and I'm regulated to the Internet so I can finish Midas. Maybe I'll finally watch the last five episodes of All In then...

Otherwise watched a Korean movie called Silmido (spelling might not be correct) and it drove me crazy plotwise. It's based on true events, so I forgave it for that but...I just can't do well with over-the-top shouting of extreme nationalist dialogue haha. It's an '05 movie though and I was pretty much watching for Uhm Tae-woong when I recognized him. Trying to piece together his cool acting with his extreme dorky side...Ha, just made me decide he needs to break his image and play a bumbler at some point. Be the cutest thing ever!

Let me know if you want to watch Sandglass "together."
If you are on FB, you can message me your thoughts throughout and I can reply. There are some heavy historic things happening that I had questions about.

Anyone else, you are invited. Maybe set up a Sandglass group? NO spoilers will be allowed.

Just curious if anyone be interested in a recap of the series. I would invest in the DVDs if at least three people would read it!

I'm actually watching sandglass too. I finished ep 2 yesterday. It has a very sad tone to it, even though it's the just beginning. I'm wondering if I can take the sadness-to-come after WBDS.

About Hong Gil Dong. I think the ending was sad, yes, but to me it made sense. I felt the heros died the way they lived - in a heroic and self sacrificing way. I wasn't throwing my mouse at the screen.

WBDS was well... you know what I mean. Though I do feel a little guilty that I vented so much. I really turned people off the drama. Lots of people have completely taken it off thier list.

I thought you and others did a good job praising WBDS.

Sandglass is sad on every possible level. There is no getting around it. But gorgeous and poignant and historic and riveting and moving. It is a good viewing experience.

Hey and HUGS!
Viola went and was blinded by Shinee, but it was too busy of a weekend for me. Sadly, Siwon didn't show because of Poiseden.

I picked Sanglass because most of what was written in English by Thundie and soompi readers has disappeared from the Web. I would try to get to post it somewhere that folks could comment on.

I already watched Sandglass once through, so I would be reviewing and recapping. I was looking for a writing project to challenge me. It would force me to research the history. I figured recapping all of the action, motivations and emotions would stretch my brain pretty darn goodly. It isn't easy to be precise with all the "he said" and "she wondered" When I write, the biggest challenge to me is getting the characters across the room to the window, glass in hand, while they speak of their horrible childhood, etc. I will be relying on Mon. Roget beaucoup.

Happy Friday!

Ever since my new job started (first professional position ever!), I haven't had time to post midday and, even if I had time, I was afraid that it would get captured on my work computer. But today I had my personal laptop on me to test out a few things for work. Taking a break now, though I really shouldn't since I hardly got anything done this week.

For dramas, been enjoying Tree with Deep Roots. I know it airs on Wed-Thurs, but I've reserved Friday-Saturday as the days to watch it. And been watching the slew of TW dramas airing.

As for American tv, aside from my usual favorites (community, fringe, himym), my fave new Fall shows are the New Girl, Revenge, and Person of Interest.

I don't have anything intelligent to say. I just wanted to express how much I love Community. God damn, I loves me some Community.

I'm also on an American TV kick. I'm on the fourth season of Mad Men (I love Jon Hamm with the flaming fire of a Molotov cocktail), and I've finally gotten around to starting Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, courtesy of Netflix. AMC is really putting out some quality television.

Last but not least, congratulations on your first professional position ever! I hope you enjoy working for the next seven decades. We'll never retire because there's no social security left (I'm assuming you live in the U.S.).

Thanks! I think I'd rather work for 70+ years than the other extreme alternative - not working. The state of unemployment is horrible, but I'm glad it's not happening while I'm in my late 50s/60s since there really is a bit of age discrimination when it comes to hiring.

On happier news, I'm obsessed with Community too! The first three episodes of the season were a bit disappointing, but the last two are just amazing! Last week's chaos theory episode was especially EPIC, especially its rendition of the Troy and Abed in the morning ending tag! I watched it like 6 times already! I planning on rewatching the halloween one from yesterday when I go home tonight.

ricky TRH - It's nice to be asked if you're foreign (makes ya feel all special, no?). But being talked at in a foreign language and then scorned because you don't speak is very frustrating. Especially when you're lost.

But, a cool thing when I travel is that I've actually been very well accepted as an American where ever I go. My British friends make fun of my accent, but all in good fun. The French friends enjoy my attempts to speak French with a very strong English-speakers accent. Same in Portugal, Israel, Jamaica, Italy. Hopefully one day Japan and Korea!

I'm paranoid of being asked directions here or being lost and having to ask for directions from the locals. I dislike having to explain my true cultural cocktail of blood because they always ask about it every time I said "I don't speak Chinese."

Direction are definitely scary, especially when you can't pronounce your destination well and the direction giver can't understand you. My French accent is gererally understandable, but I have serious trouble with the 'rl' combination and it really got me in trouble for about 3 hours in Paris! (On the day of the 2006 World Cup where EVYERONE was inside watching Zinidine Zidane headbutt the Italian.)

You're too funny, my friend. You get a hi five. *Hi-five*

0

I agree directions are scary. I remember I was in at an airport in Paris for a connecting flight and I speak no french. The guard I asked for directions spoke no English so I had a hard time making my point across and I was running out of time. I just decided to follow other people and I ended up in the right terminal. I almost missed my flight.

0

@ Raine

*hi 5*
It's just my imagination. Don't be fooled :)

@ Shiku
To avoid all those complications, I would always travel with someone who is used to the place.

0

@ Ricky TRH - I like your imagination

@ Shiku - I'm a chronic solo traveler. I can't help myself. I always meet up with people, but I like going it alone. I always make myself learn the basics of any language before I travel though so things always come together in the nick of time although it gives me a heart attack until then. You'd think I'd learn my lesson, but I still like flying solo.

Will finished Protect The Boss and watching Running Man.

btw, did anyone think Na-Yeon from PTB cute?
I adore her, hehehehehe
Never think a third wheel can be this engaging and lovely. She have everything from hateful third wheel bitch bible. She is pretty and actually now it. An ex-girlfriend who want to insert herself again between our OTP, a girl that have a 'right' to the man because they are rich, have a snotty man and pretty much she is a greedy women who want two man in the same time and lose them at the same time.

BUT, Na-Yeon is lovely! Really!
I laughing like crazy at the karaoke scene *she is deaf tone period* or whenever she cries or emmm, almost at everything she's in.
She is open to Eun-Seol about her feeling, little bit clumsy and childish. A cry baby that are lonely and love her Myung Ran so much. And love to says "educational power" to calm herself whenever she's angry. LOL an heart

Checking in from Edinburgh this weekend and whenever I come here I question why I live in London...

Oh well.

Not much drama-watching because I'm busy with uni, but also because not much strikes me interest at the moment. Want to watch In Time with You, but haven't find a good site to watch it on.
Impatiently waiting for
Me Too, Flower and Flower Boy Rayum Shop to start (and hopefully be subbed asap) - or anything else that's good will do really.

I did watch two more (Japanese) films as part of the BFI Film Festival, Shinkai's 星を追う子ども (Hoshi o Ou Kodomo/Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below), which I liked but it did have some flaws, and = ハラがコレなんで (Hara Ga Kore Nande/Mitsuko Delivers), which I didn't care for all that much.

I was also bemused this week because they announced that SHINee would be the opening act for the London Korean Film Festival next week and the website for booking tickets (a major cinema chain) promptly collapsed. Apparently the people from the cinema were a little surprised by the enthusiasm of the fangirls... The website is still not working properly because I have been trying to book tickets for the opening film (War of the Arrow) unsuccessfully.

Happy Friday everyone!

Oh, the surprise paper eh? I had a surprise audition this week. Sleepless Night's on SOBE is hiring an orchestra for one of its slots and the director received my name as a reference and called me. Then afterwards he emailed me and asked me if I could come in and audition in the next few days. The colleague who referred me didn't have to audition (I suppose she knew the guy.) In any case, that was a lot of practicing that I did not expect to do at 1 am...

Rawr Yum...Rawr Yum...take that as fuel to finish the paper to present and then chow down...Dec 5th, right?

0

Not surprise... just procrastinating if I'm honest.

I have another conference next week and was much more excited about that one, so I kept working on that paper instead of the one for tomorrow.

Also, Sang Doo, Let's Go to School - Rain was so young...I'm watching this and thinking...is he such a goober in real life? Adorably goofy. But the man sure loves to spit. I have managed to avoid ANY INFORMATION AT ALL about what happens, so I'm enjoying this opportunity to second guess everything. We had a talk going on about your studying in the last one. Maybe I should go see if you replied before this one was posted.

Fringe is getting a bit cooky right? and Oh Ji HoMyGod....HAHA i spit out my soda. I can start on Sang Doo so we can both get Rain fixes and talk about dramas! Oooh Rain...I'm already suffering from his military duty. *twitches from withdrawal* I will start SD tomorrow!

I'm on ep 8 of Sang Doo, Raine - I think here's where things start to get ugly but I've had a couple sympathetic tears a time or two already even though it's mostly been a comedy. Raine is good at being a buffoon, never a bad thing when a handsome man can mug like a clown, in my book.

By the way, Raine, you made me laugh at JoAnneeeee because I read it as JoAnne-y, and in my closest group of friends, all the kids have called me Joannie-woo for years. I don't even remember how it started - one of my girlfriends made a joke and the kids, being little, picked the nickname right up.

Between 3 women, we had 7 girls...the other 2 women had 2 boys apiece, but 3 were much older and 1 was much younger. The 7 girls were closer in age (1 graduated college this past spring, 4 are in college, 2 will start in a year.) and prone to spending all their time together like a gaggle of pups.

I'm almost done with episode 1 of SDLGTS and its so engaging. Rain is soooo young but still adorkable. He is such a diverse man. So flippin' talented. It really isn't fair. Good looking, bilingual, actor, dancer, singer, rapper, clothes line, production company, virtual stuntman...what can't this man do?

Joannie-woo! That's cute. The only nicknames I got were from my mother and sister. Most people called me "Lee", which I hate except for when my sister calls me that.

Rain, yep, he's talented alright. Very young here, but he still just inhabits whatever he's doing so comfortably. And he doesn't mind looking stupid, or gross. I find that particularly appealing in a person who is physically beautiful and especially talented, always.

My heart is going to break on this one, too. I was successful in not knowing anything about how it ends, and so I've led myself to believe it's mostly happy with a touch of sad here and there. I think I was way too hopeful on that, but there's still 4 episodes to go, so...

Nicknames - I come from a family of nicknamers, LOL...and 'the clan' as well - that's how my girlfriends and I refer to our families. We are a family, too, after all these years. (Actually, one of them IS family, but I often forget that as it was by marriage and the marriage ended years ago.)

0

Unni - I'm so sorry I'm not farther along in Sang-doo. My aunt, who has MS that is very far along, has been in the hospital (in Hawaii) and we're trying to move her to Miami to be with family so I've been neglecting Sang-doo. But I'm downloading it to watch on the go on my phone...how sad is that?

As for Rain, he's adorable in it so far and I'm a huge Gong Hyo-jin fan.

Nicknames - I love them and giving them. Maybe cause I only had 2 growing up. You should hear the arsenal I have for my siblings, my cat, and my best friends. One of them has "spiky" as one of her nicknames...hehe. My cat is 'furry burrito' which my brother hates. It's crazy how that one came about.

0

Don't worry about SangDoo, Raine - do real life stuff first, of course! It's not like I'm going to be able to forget any of it anyway...so we'll be talking about it whenever you're done.

0

JoAnne, I just finished Grimm...liked the 1st epi and the premise so this one is on my continue to watch and be amazed list. Go Nick Grimm! I hope auntie Maria teaches him about his legacy before leaving....

No...if it follows along with Snow White...the sheriff should be the Wicked Queen's huntsman. Right? In the fairy tale he's supposed to follow Snow White into the woods and cut out her heart to bring back to the Queen to prove that she's dead, but he takes pity on her and brings the heart of a deer, instead.

0

Well, when they showed all of these characters like Tinker Bell (?), Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket and whoever else, I was intrigued by who the rest of the townfolk are.....Rumpelstiltskin is the owner of Storybrooke?!

0

Yeah...he wasn't a bad guy in the story if I remember, he just went to sleep for like, EVER...but that was because he wanted gold, right, so I guess it makes sense that in this world he does everything for money. I like how they're not limiting themselves to fairytales, ie, Jiminy Cricket - as far as I know, he's a purely Disney character.

0

Mskololia, did you watch ep 2 of OuaT? Sheriff is hotness. And I detect, perhaps, a bit of scottish accent. Shaping up to be a good fight between Emma and the Mayor, and LOVING Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin. He knows way more than the Mayor realizes and I don't think he forgot anything from before.

I've never posted here before, but what the heck! Ever since watching Boys before Flowers on Netflix streaming a few months ago, I have been obsessed with all things Korean Drama to the detriment of everything else, up to and including my real life.

At the moment I'm watching the outlandishly wonderful What's Up Fox, which I found after reading recs on this website. As an American, the one thing I often feel is missing from Korean dramas is physical chemistry—and this show has it in spades. I'm on episode 12; at this point it's clear that Chun Jung Myung could have a sizzling on-screen romance with a piece of paper. The way he looks at things and wrinkles that brow... ::fans self::

Anyone have suggestions for other shows with a strong sense of physical attraction between the leads? To date, I'd say What's Up Fox, Coffee Prince, and Sungkyunkwan Scandal are the best examples I've found of zippy k-chemistry.

I've also recently developed some free-floating anxiety about Lee Min Ho heading into the military. How can the world carry on without a new drama from him every year? (City Hunter is next on my list of things to watch, and I can barely wait.)

American TV is dead to me. I even canceled my cable in favor of a dramafever paid membership =X

Korean TV is so much better--the shows aren't built to be drawn out for 100 episodes with no resolution. There are beginnings, middles, and ends, all devoted to the kind of romantic relationships middle-of-the-road American TV can't support. And most of the endings are even happy! (Swoon.)

And even though those chaste schoolyard kisses sometimes get on my nerves (Lee Seung Ki, I'm talking about you), it's actually nice to watch a television show that doesn't revolve around sex/hooking up.

0

I'd like to pull Ra - oh wait, you said pull *a* Rain...

0

Llamaesque, What do you think of your dramafever membership? What benefits do you get? Is it worth it?

0

Mandelbrotr: As far as I can see, the best thing about a Dramafever premium membership is not having to deal with the commercials. Many of them would mess up my browser or kill Flash so I'd have to shut down chrome and restart. (I watch it on a google tv, so I have no alternative when it comes to browsers.) I guess some of the eps are high res for premium members, too, although most of the shows I've been watching are older and not available in high res. And if you're someone who wants to watch as shows are aired, you also get access to new eps earlier than other people. (I like watching marathon-style after a show is complete, so this isn't a big concern for me.)

I just didn't see the chemistry between the leads in Sam Soon. KSA is perfect in every way. She played Sam Soon terrifically. But I didn't see why she would fall in love with such a spectacular jerk. Therefore my call on the chemistry thing. But of course, that's just me. I believe the show has some fans out there who think the couple is smoldering. ;-)

0

I actually watched Sam Soon years ago, but it wasn't enough to hook me on Korean dramas. (And back then it was so hard to find--I don't think any were available streaming online.)

I remember thinking the lead boy was kind of a creep in Sam Soon, though--which seems to be an issue that comes up a fair bit in these dramas. After Boys before Flowers I watched Playful Kiss, which introduced me to second-lead syndrome: all I wanted the female lead to do was break Baek Seung Jo's heart. Talk about a self-obsessed jerk :b

(And re sex in Korean dramas, imagine what a nightmare sex with Baek Seung Jo would be? Hypercritical, demanding, and prone toward rudeness do not equal hot stuff.)

Sam Soon was good - and groundbreaking for it's portrayal of an independent woman. I liked it, but then couldn't watch anything else that Kim Sun Ah did until Scent of a Woman, and she was fabulous in it. Just fabulous. And Wookie?! OMG - he's got this mouth..... anyway, watch this one. It's terrific.

As far as imagining getting busy with BSJ - hell, yeah! 'Cause I don't see BJS. I see KHJ. Who is my husband in another parallel universe. Just sayin'.

That's one thing about dropping American tv. The subject matter of sex and violence leaves us so desensitized to viewing it that it just has to keep ramping up to get any reactions.

Watching Kdrama's take on romance/sex made me laugh in puzzlement at first, but the longer I watched the more I appreciated the restraint shown in the plots.
I mean, sometimes I'm just yelling at the screen "Kiss her, you moron!" or "Just toss her on the bed and get busy!!" - stuff like that. But I never thought I'd see the day when a simple hand-hold could make me squee like a schoolgirl, or a longing look from the hero, or a back hug (hello, BSJ!!)!

What a difference between American & Korean society, huh?

0

@Cynthia

'What a difference between American & Korean societies, huh?'

Have you seen K-movies?

0

Yeah..I do NOT get the dichotomy there. I mean...whoa. Those movies make me blush.

0

I don't watch K movies. (Well, that's not totally true - I watched that "Cyborg" thing with Rain, and that awful SHK film she did in the States).

And Ninja Assassin.
But that's it.
What am I missing?

0

The funny thing about American TV versus Korean is that 4 seasons of explicit and acrobatic sex on True Blood *combined* aren't as hot as the single hat removal kiss on SKKS. American shows forget the soul of things in favor of the animal of things, but when the SKKS lead slowly, deliberately, attentively removed their hats before tenderly kissing her, it was literally the most erotic thing I've ever seen on television :x

0

The only Korean movie I've watched is The Host, and the sea monster was the only character that got any action in that. Am I missing something? (In a perfect world, this something would involve lots of shirtless Gong Yoo scenes. Just saying.)

0

@Cynthia & @Llamaesque

Like JoAnne said there is a dichotomy because in k-dramas the scenes are so chaste that you want them to do something more like hug or kiss. On the other hand, k-movies (the ones I have seen) do a 180 degree and it becomes true blood-esque (I think it even surpasses true blood), has a lot of gore and explicit sex that you want them to pull back from.

For example, my first movie was Portrait of a Beauty had this scene where you had 2 females demonstrating kamasutra positions in a WWF style ring. The crowd watching filled with men and women (who were in relative stages of undress) they became excited and it turned into an orgy. In another scene, the female lead and 2nd male lead get together, get busy and you see everything apart from the 'good china' and 'wood.' Then the female lead goes back home and gets doggie-style raped by the male lead (or at least he attempted to).

0

You know (and I truly hesitate to say this here), Kim Sun-ah really annoys me. She's got this "cutesy-cutesy" thing going, a sort of, "I'm tough but I'll also act like the ingenue because it's the cute thing to do, and of course I'll attract you to me if I flirt in a way that's apparently supposed to be cute but actually suggests that I'm clumsy and stupid..." I suppose she's a good actress, but the characters she plays, or the way she plays them, drive me crazy!

No, you can say it here - having been lambasted by fangirls over a GHS comment I made in a DB post earlier this week, I'm living proof that words (or criticism) don't kill. :)

Your comment about KSA is also how I reacted to her dramas after Sam Soon. I couldn't watch her because the bumbling, cutesy act was such a turn-off, but I did take a chance on SOAW - and she was just fantastic. She gave an amazing performance. If you haven't seen it, this would be the one to watch.

Sethe and Cynthia- I am a rabid KSA fangirl and I would like you to feel comfortable saying it even if I TOTALLY DONT AGREE.

For me part of that is a director. They do ask for certain things. Obviously, if she can go between the cutesy and that smoulder that she had in SOAW and MNIKSS she has the stuff. IMHO.

But your opinion is heard AND appreciated.

I know what you mean about good chemistry between leads, which is why these have stood out for me: Protect the Boss, Secret Garden, City Hall, Prosecutor Princess. I think the older the actors, the better they are able to play sexual tension. Just my opinion. While Lee Min Hot melts everything with his hotness in City Hunter, I don't think he has sizzling chemistry with his female lead.

0

Required fields are marked *

I totally agree with you on that the older actors can display sexual tension better, even if they are not that hot looking. Lee Min Ho himself is hot looking , but his chemistry with his female leads are more the cute type, not the sizzling type. (many may disagree- just my humble opinion, okay). Maybe when he is older...

0

0

LOL. yup! LMH in city hunter is all hot by himself without the female. I think they just have the side so call romance just so us females would watch. :)

We'll have to wait a few more years to see how he does with other actresses in other dramas. If lead actor and actress can't act like there is chemistry between them, we'll definitely see it on screen.

0

In my opinion...Lack of sizzling is because he does not have much experience...I heard that his girlfriend left him after his car accident around 4 years ago(He stayed at the hospital almost 6 months)...And then came the huge hit of Boys over flowers...he was so busy with all the crazy works...He is still a big boy...A hot boy.

:)

0

JoAnne Unni- You just like to bring up the Game Over kiss...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7ox6mSB-F4

Enjoy. Maybe get a few napkins before you watch.

0

Raine - it was the my first realistic Korean kiss! Seared into my brain forever, and the moment when I said 'hey, LMH CAN be sexy!'

Plus, they pay me. In happiness.

0

So I finally see the famous 'game over' kiss and all I could think of is the guy on the side had his mouth open the whole time. It was a good kiss a huge up grade from the annoying wide eyes open kiss that is more common but I see no passion (i.e. rip your clothes off passion). It seems chaste to me

0

Really, Shiku? Maybe I was just too invested in his struggle over how he felt about her, but I definitely saw his passion, and I guess what got me was that was a 'you are MINE and no one else's' kiss and my unevolved heart tends to do a big thumpety-thump over that whole initial 'you're MY woman' thing. I don't want a guy to lord it over me, but I damn sure want him to claim me and if initially that comes across as cave-man possession...I'm kinda ok with that, as long as he recognizes that it's not that way on every level. Physically, oh yes. Mentally and emotionally? Oh no.

Reading over this...didn't much see any passion from her. But then I rarely do from the women in these dramas.

0

@JoAnne

Honestly when I saw the kiss I thought it was nice and it looked enjoyable but I saw no passion (maybe an itty-bitty speck of passion in him but nothing from her). Maybe it's because am not invested in them as I haven't seen the drama.

When I think of chemistry I think of Lovers. The two leads had crazy chemistry with each other

0

OH, Shiku...you have to WATCH it to understand the kiss. You'll see it differently then, I promise!

0

::imagines a line of women waiting to deflower Lee Min Ho starting in Souel and stretching past her house in New England several times before stopping just short of the moon.::

That boy is hot like nobodies' business, and the thought of him being an innocent is even hotter. As wrong as that may be...

Oh Unni - we wish for his innocence. But a man...who looks like that. I'm actually curious about that in regards to JGS. He's a baffling character.

IN terms of ladies who aren't limp fish - again, I say Kim Sun-ah. Also, Kim So-yeon, Moon Chae-won, Koyuki, Ady An, Yoon Eun-hye, Ha Ji-won.

0

Since I have a hard time imagining JGS as an actual man for the most part, I certainly can't imagine him..you know. He's perfect for the Kdrama world...pure love and devotion, but no actual sex.

0

JGS does make it difficult. Poor ickle guy...

0

Telenovelera - I thought he had sizzling chemistry with her.

But I do agree about the older actors. Cha Seung-won has chemistry with the camera. Holy crap. He looks at the camera and I melt. Even Kang Ji-Hwan whose in his early 30s has incredible chemistry with his ladies (PSH too:D)

Prosecutor Princess was AMAZING chemistry.

I have a strange thing with Secret Garden. I got the chemistry between the mains, but that was IT. Nada mas. I think my draw is Philip Lee and the OST. Every time I hear the OST I want to watch the show although i really dislike the show. I've watched it THREE times. But I dislike it. But I listen to the OST and I want to watch it. And then Philip Lee comes on the screen...That drama drives me insane...because I cant understand my reaction to it! I should stop listening to the OST...but I can't....

I'm currently teaching English in Korea. If you're an American or Canadian college graduate, you can get a job teaching English here in a heartbeat. Granted, I have an undergrad degree in English from a very good school, so I had offers from every school I applied to, but even for the North American applicant without such qualifications, the demand for native English speakers is so high that any American or Canadian college graduate could easily get a job here. There are probably thousands of after-school academies here in Korea that students attend to learn English, and all of those schools want to hire native English speakers. The visa process is a little burdensome and time-consuming, but the employers usually pay for your flight AND your housing (plus health insurance), so overall, it's a pretty good deal.

To get over said past love I've been watching EotS, which is torturing my poor hero in so many ways I can't even count. Sandglass: the soundtrack of which just makes me want to cry (I haven't even reached the sad part yet) and "best kdrama kiss scenes" on youtube. (hey! don't judge! "In Time With You"..OMGGGG...this is the BEST drama, it made me fall in love with TWDramas all over again. Ariel is amazing in her role and Bolin is just wayyy to adorable. I totally recommend... 5/5

VP: Is right at my alley, I'm loving the whole Vampire/Bones thing going on...hoping it gets better. 4/5

Last but not least..."Thousand Day Promise"...the acting is blowing me away right now..Su Aen is just amazing and I like that the story is different in the sence that we are not dealing with Cancer, but instead with early Alhzeimer. The Cancer story lines are getting to old. 31/2 /5..Just caused second lead girl annoys the heck out of me right now.....

Hi everyone. Found out that my kitten was using his litter box half the time and beneath my bed the next half of the time. -_-' So I've been busy cleaning. :(

Currently enamored and frustrated with Smile, Donghae and intrigued by TWDR. Aside from that drama-land is pretty quiet but on the entertainment front, I just pre-ordered my Lee Seung Gi CD from Yes Asia. XD

I think cats know it because when my sister's cat does it she looks around and runs away when it sees my sister. They are cheeky like that.

i tried to watch smile dong hae because it had three of my the three brothers leads. lee seungi was part of my hanja project last week. his seung is different from cha seung won's seung. I think I might really study chinese, casually.

Don't punish kitty. You can do one of two things put another litter box in your room/under your bed or every time you find some luck under the bed take him to it and then take him the litter box and scratch his paws in it. My halmo used to do that with her cats and I did that too with the lovely mei mei who had a bit of a problem when she first moved in with me. Remember he wants to be a clean cat so just be a bit more patient.

Good idea about a second litter box. I think I'll try that. I wasn't angry when I found his 'other' toilet...I blame myself for not being more alert. lol.

I've been considering Three Brothers....but I'll save that for a later date. After I finally finish Donghae, I'll need something shorter.

Oh, the poor kitten is confused.

I remember our cat, once looked at me and squatted and unrinated right in front of me. I was so scared she had an infection I rushed her to the vet. Come to find out, because she is partially paralized, she could no longer climb into the litter box, so she was just letting me know she needed some help. we had to cut the opening down low so she could use the box.

Arhazivory - I totally just had this issue with my cat. I talked to the vet and he gave me reasons.

1) Behavioral. Is there something the cat doesn't like and he's acting out.

2) Location: they like private litter boxes and open covers. the closed covers trap smells and they HATE it. When I took the cover off, it actually improved the smell in my bathroom as well.

3) The vet said to have one more litter box than you have cats. I have one cat so I have two litter boxes.

And yay for LSG:D SO ADORABLE!

As soon as I added the second litter box and took the lid off the first, he stopped peeing on beds, clothes, plastic bags, under the sofa...everywhere.

Habari everyone, Happy Friday/Saturday!

So I was shown a very interesting video that investigates how attentive you are and if you multi-task. Surprisingly, I failed almost all the tests even though I pride myself as being detail-oriented and able to multi-task.

http://www.putlocker.com/file/CBDFE4D233202C74#

The second thing is about how the brain perceives things. Very interesting.

Then I found an artists who actually paints on photograph making it appear like it is in 3-D. How cool is it?

Happy Friday Everyone!!

I hope everyone's weekend is filled with relaxation, good times, and good dramas. Or that your good dramas lead to good times, because that happens to me. Weekends are much too short for bad drama marathoning.

So true. I think I go just a wee bit crazy when I have started watching a bad drama. I try to stick them out to see if they get any better and when they don't I feel like I've wasted time on them.

Hey HeadsNo2 - you rock for reviewing.

And I'm totally looking for my weekend drama crack. Definitely can't waste it on bad drama...Too bad I have a gig in Downtown Miami that is cutting into my drama time. *NOOOOO...darn money making* I'm going to marathon Sang Doo to watch with JoAnne and I'm thinking of Sungkyunkwan Scandel.

And wow, watching all these dramas has totally made my Korean spelling way better. AT the beginning I couldn't have imagined writing that title without aid of AsiaMediaWiki.

HELLLOO EVERYBODEEEEE (Grover style)
NOt watching anything at the moment. Have resolved to go through all my movies-to-watch list. Have watched Taegukgi and Cryrano Dating Agency. The first one, I loved. The second one left me feeling unsatisfied at first but by the last scene I was cackling with glee. Ended up being a good watch. UHM TAE WOONG, PEOPLE. Finally see why JB and GF like him so much. When I first started watching 1n2d, I was like, what the..? He's so boring and quiet! I know he's opened up a bit now, compared to how he used to be. LOVED the actress special..just watched it recently...I liked Kim Haneul the most. She's so funny! She seemed like a fun person to be with in real life. And I loved watching her laugh. Esp when she'd jump up and down and clap her hands or fall back, kicking her legs. Not the affected delicate laugh for her, no siree. :D
Is vampire prosecutor any good. I need convincing. seems kinda far-fetched, the kind of idea that needs good execution to be a watchable. If you disagree, let me know.
Also, these are the k-movies I've watched so far:
100 days with Mr. Arrogant(loved it)
My Sassy Girl (meh)
Taegukgi and Cyrano
My Little Bride (loved it!)
I'm a Cyborg But That's OK (took me a while to 'get' it, but it seemed like genius to me when i finally did)
A Tale of Two Sisters (meh)

Can anyone tell me what I should watch next based on my above opinions? Thanks a million! AND HAPPT WEEKEND TO Y'ALL

Hurrah! Just got a phone call!
-
I have a new niece! #60 of the nieces/nephews (39 on Mr Shels side, 21 on my side....yeah, we come from big, spread out families). As yet, she is unnamed, but she arrived safe and sound.

One more niece due in 2 weeks, and a gaggle of greats due after that. LOVE me some babies!

I gave up on the birthday thing a long time ago, lol. Back when I had 15 or 20, lol.

Most of the nieces/nephews on Mr Shel's side are all older, my 14 yr old is the baby. They are mostly married and starting their own families...or finishing them in some cases. I think we're up around 80 "greats". I send BIRTH presents, but not BIRTHDAY presents, lol.

My brother walked in the other day and was like, I can tell that's Japanese. You're finally watching things in Japanese again. And I was like...nope, its Korean. And he looked a little ashamed and walked out. They sound completely different. It's not like its Mandarin/Cantonese/Taiwanese, which to the untrained ear sound alike. But dang, Korean and Japanese? Totally different...

Can anyone direct me to a good English sub stream of Conspiracy in the Court? I've been searching without any luck. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You don't have to quit your job. You just have to learn how to have sneak peeks at work without being caught.

And yeah, less sleep, food... normal activities. At some point you'd start to smell and resemble a raccoon-eyed zombie.

In short, if you love your health you shouldn't be envious. ;)

I would absolutely love to have a dish washer. The only time I had one was the last four years of high school and then a year and a half in an apartment.

Don't look at my hands... They are definitely dish pan hands!

But the kitchen we have is so small, that we can't afford to lose the cabinet space for a dishwasher.

My mom would never buy a dishwasher, because she said she gave birth to six of them, lol.

0

Shel - HAHAHA

MJP - I have them too. We have a dishwasher and its busted. So we use it as a drying rack....

0

Speaking of dishes - I woke up this morning and the dishes were not only in both parts of the sink, but on the counter. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? It took me 20 minutes to wash them all. If people would only wash their own dishes, my hands wouldn't be throbbing prunes...

0

I hate that. Mr Shel has been pretty good about doing them while I'm sick, but my silly daughter can dirty more dishes in a shorter amount of time than anyone I know. She makes toast and gets out a plate to put it on. GET A PAPER TOWEL or napkin for pete's sake! I mentioned one night while doing the dishes that Dad's gone all day, I use the same 32 oz red cup all day long, and there are 15 cups in the dishwasher. She got all offended and ended up stomping off to her room. Part of her issue is her ADD, she doesn't remember to take care of her dishes, so she gets another one out.

Everytime she whines about having to empty the dishwasher, I remind her that if she used fewer dishes she wouldn't have to do it as often, lol.

0

Yeah, I'm a big fan of using the same cup. The only time I switch is when I go from hot drink to cold drink. Currently I've worked out a system. If you cook I'll clean and vice versa. This is what happened. I cooked and the dishes got left over night so now I clean too...how did that happen? It's a vicious, vicious, cycle.
