Noh Min-woo and Hwang Jung-eum un-confirm Full House 2
by javabeans
javabeans: Okay, the news is that this casting for Full House 2 has been deferred, not outright cancelled. But with Noh Min-woo signing onto a different series and Hwang Jung-eum enjoying such a rise in popularity, I don’t know if they’ll stick around indefinitely for a drama that’s been “in the works” for basically seven years.
girlfriday: I knew it was a fat chance in hell that drama would get its act together.
javabeans: I was actually more surprised at the idea that it would go through as planned. Plus, word is that Noh and Hwang had a “big difference of opinion” with producers regarding the characters and the show.
girlfriday: Oh, that’s not a good sign, from the get-go.
javabeans: Or maybe the vampire love just seduced Noh Min-woo away. It can be pretty persuasive, I hear.
girlfriday: Dude, it’s a better drama. At least I think so.
javabeans: …having seen neither, you mean?
girlfriday: Yes, exactly. Don’t you think he was born to play a vampire?
javabeans: Well, yes. Clearly.
girlfriday: I honestly didn’t even like him until he did Rock, Rock, Rock. I used to think he was…
javabeans: A talentless pretty boy with a bad haircut? He was SO STIFF as Gumiho Hunter.
girlfriday: He was downright constipated.
javabeans: This just goes to show how important good casting is. It’s like Park Shi-yeon in Coffee House for me.
girlfriday: I look forward to many many episodes of him rockin’ out, which is clearly his forte. Not that I don’t think he could branch out. I didn’t catch Midas (it bored the crap out of me), but it’s not a stretch for him to play the pretty playboy. What concerns me about this drama is not so much the cast, but the been-there-done-that-ness of the story.
javabeans: If it’s too much like Full House, then we’ll be bored to tears. If it’s not at all like Full House…then what’s the point?
girlfriday: Right? So then why even bother calling it Refill House, if it’s just going to be like any other drama that has totally new characters with a Full-House-esque plot?
javabeans: Ugh, I just had a thought: Totally new cast, new story, same damn house. That’s what they’re gonna do, aren’t they?
girlfriday: Pwahaha. That hadn’t even occurred to me. Oh sigh.
javabeans: How’re you gonna cheat the heroine out of her family home this time, drama? Let me guess: She has these friends…
girlfriday: Or maybe this one’ll have a degenerate father or a really bad cousin who gambles away the house
javabeans: An irresponsible fourth cousin twice removed?
girlfriday: Yes, who HAPPENS to come upon her house deed, just lying about, as deeds are wont to do.
javabeans: He could steal her seal, all 49 Days-like.
girlfriday: And then BAM! French maid outfit. No, wait… why’s she gotta be the maid? How ‘bout this time, it’s reversed, and the hero loses the house and ends up as the houseboy!
javabeans: And she’s the big movie star? Wait, they did that in Star’s Lover. But this time it won’t be a tearjerker.
girlfriday: What, you’re asking a drama that calls itself Full House 2 to be original?
javabeans: Touché.

...trying to imagine the male equivalent of a french maid's uniform and all I can come up with is Hank Azaria in those cut off jean shorts in Bird Cage. Not good.

Gurl what kind of kDramas do you watch. I'd love to see just about any leading guy in cutoff jean shorts. Washing the windows floors and dishes. Oh yeah.

The word(s) Housemaid will always and forever conjur up for me a pretty pretty sight of LJJ's tracts of land...anything written after that, I cannot even see...

HA!
Looking forward to Noh Min Woo as a vampire versus seeing him as "constipated" Gumiho Hunter. They probably realize that the drama will be just as you said, too similar to FH that's it will be a drag. This is probably why they rarely have sequels in kdrama land. Good that they're at least rising in popularity.
As someone who didn't watch Full House, and at one point wished for a sequel to the mess that was BBF, I would probably end up watching FH2.

funny how it's just been reported that jo yoon hee has been added as the 2nd lead right as the main leads are deferring. i hope NMW does the vampire drama instead.

Why they would be Full House 2 anyway? I thought the series doesn't need any sequel. Unless Bi and SHK reunite again, which is impossible.

How about the original couple has 2 kids but have to leave for ?I dunno.
Leave the kids behind for ?her to look after. Then he is the down and out actor looking for a place to stay.
Then he has to be the 'houseman'
Ergh,luckily I am not the writer :-)

He was so wasted in Midas. *sighs* I'm all for him doing the quirky vampiric drama than a rehash of the typical korean tale.

aahh..it was Rock, Rock, Rock that did it for me too.. me want some vampire Noh. now!
how great would it be if they could shoot "Full House" (with whatever title) in the same house but using all of the devices mentioned above? But then they'd have to hire the Hong sisters to make it work.. won't they?

Definitely want to see the vampire idol happen! But have to disagree about NMW in the gumiho role - I thought he did a pretty good job of an old and world weary being, full of regret but now newly tempted and hiding it all behind a facade of perfect advisor/mentor . . . I kinda wonder how else that could have been played.
Anyway . . . alien vampire princes rule

To be honest, he gave me a very creepy vibe in Gumiho and so i stopped watching half way through the rom com. Maybe it's a natural aversion to pretty boys, but it was really hard watching a rom com when I was flinching every time I saw him.

In MGIAG he was quite stiff. I was surprised at the difference between that and Pasta and he has a minor roll in that (oh man, that mane of glory that he thankfully cut). It's unbelievable how far casting goes. The serious, thoughtful type does not suit him. However, he was pretty eyecandy throughout MGIAG. I think his character might've actually been compelling if it was, say, Kim Jae-wook. They have the same look but KJW is a bit more effective!
Anyway, as for FH2...in general, I'm wary of remakes. (Unless its Aladdin. I really was a fan of the 2nd two films...when I was 10...but still.) They are in that straight-to-home-video category that gives me the willies.
But hopefully it will prove me wrong and we'll have some more entertainment that's actually entertaining to obsess over.

Did you actually see Gumiho?lol He was a mess in it. You can call him cute, you can call him the handsomest thing since slice bread, but please, please let's not go to denial land and call him a good actor. He was awful. He may become a great actor in the future or even a decent actor but so far he needs to keep working on that acting skill of his.
