Han Ye-seul in action as Myung-wol the Spy
by javabeans
Well, we’ve seen Han Ye-seul being comical and co-star Eric all sparkled up as a Hallyu singer-actor, which takes care of the “com” part of Myung-wol the Spy’s action-rom-com designation.
In these new stills, we see the action side, with Myung-wol being an elite agent from the North who infiltrates the South on a mission. Her orders: Capture Kang-woo (Eric) and take him back with her to North Korea. If only love didn’t complicate everything, ’cause she falls for him and that, needless to say, puts a wrinkle in her plans.
Another complication? A second spy, played by Birdie Buddy and Royal Family’s Lee Da-hee (pictured at bottom, not to be confused with Miss Ripley’s Lee Da-hae). She’s on the other side as a dogged South Korean agent who investigates Kang-woo persistently. Now I’m curious as to what Mr. Big Shot has been doing to attract such attention — and how the two ladies are going to try to claim him to their sides. Disguises? Flattery? A spy-off?
Myung-wol the Spy premieres on July 11.

Hey I notice no heels. That's more realistic.
Even Kim Na Na in CH has like 3 inch heels.I mean I know know how a bodyguard is supposed to run with high heels. At least in Mwung Wol the spy the girl has shoes.

Very well spotted! I hadn't seen that, and it makes me happy. :-) I am really bothered by pretty much all the bodyguard details in City Hunter; it's like they're all actively trying to get their charges and themselves kidnapped and/or killed.

It is kind of City Hunter meets Get Smart. The more they stay away from the Blue House the better. :)
Nothing like Kdrama for inappropriate shoes. I've seen characters in strappy sandals in the snow, 6 inch stillettos on the beach etc...I love shoes so I always seem to notice the shoes.
This is one of the shows I'm looking forward to. One more week! :)

I hear you about the inappropriate shoes (and outfits, too!).
It seems part of it is viewers' expectations, especially for actresses, they want them to look all pretty and dolled up, even if that is very unrealistic. I was rolling my eyes at some netizen complaints on what Park Shin Hye wears in "You've Fallen for Me" - if you haven't been watching, so far she keeps showing up in ankle-length skirts and sneakers. And this is very appropriate for her role, because she is a kayakeum student, who carries a kayakeum as tall as her strapped to her back, and when playing the instrument is sitting on the floor with the instrument in front of her. She also is being raised by her very strict, traditional grandfather. So her attire is actually the closest one can get to hanbok while not being hanbok, while being quite functional for her role as a kayakeum performance major. But I guess viewers would rather watch her tottering on 6-inch heels and then flashing everybody playing kayakeum wearing a micro-miniskirt.

@mee Yeah, I think her clothes suit her personality, actually. It's different from the usual, which I like.
But this bothers me a lot as well. Like when the poor characters are all kitted out in the best clothes. I mean, you don't have to be rich to look stylish, but sometimes it requires the suspension of disbelief. Like, if you compare the heroines in popular romantic comedies to Jinjin in Gloria (relatively plain sweaters) or even Jinwook from Baby-faced Beauty (compare his suits to the president of The Style's suits).
But the hells thing? Does my head in. It just reeks of ridiculousness as well, definitely, of sexism. I can imagine female bodyguards being expected to wear heels irl. Nana wears relatively thick heels, which aren't that bad to work in, especially if she's (1) used to it and (2) as good as I think she is, but you'd think the Blue House wouldn't want to take any risks!

Or maybe girls in Korea where heels to the beach.
Which they do.
Trust me.
( You don't? Read Feetmanseoul's ponderings on Korean women's beach fashion-_-)

@mee: sometimes I have to agree with viewers' expectations. I've been around with art and music student all of my life including students majoring traditional music and instrument in both high school and college. Their outfit are often pretty and very please to the eyes. Since they are artistic and often have to do many performance either for school or contests, they often take good care of their appearance much much better than us who majoring in science. Thus, I expect an art student who plays in a youth drama would wear nice clothes ( not 6 inches heel and short skirt, but something that is more fashionable and pretty) . I found what PSH wearing in the drama rather plain and not pretty. I was disappointed!

I was nitpicking on that too. Seriously....heels in that kind of work? Makes no sense, no matter how fashionable it looks. -_-'

Yay for realism!
When Nana was tip-toeing awkwardly around corners with gun drawn in heels back in Ep 7, I was couldn't help but groan. Not only does it limit movement, but so. loud.

Yes, I remember hearing those loud heels sounds in that episode and groaning because it really wrecked the tension in that scene.

I think one reason that Nana wears such high heels/boots in CH could be because LMH is too tall so they need to balance out the heights between the both of them. If not, Nana would have to crank her head at a very awkward position to look Yoon-sung in the eye which talking to him.
I'm average height and have some friends who are 1 foot taller than I am, so to compensate the difference in heights, I usually stand further away from them when speaking so that I won't have to tilt my head at a very large angle, which is uncomfortable.
But since this is a drama and visuals are important (you know, skinship and near-misses), I think Nana's heels do function more than just to make her look pretty.
But kudos to Spy Myeong-wol for an agent in sneakers! :D

hey it not to make her legs look longer or backside prettier in those tight black pants...have to take a cold shower...it because of camera angles of course she so small she need the heels to get into shot..simple answer...tight black pants..drool...
Hey if fan girls can drool over six-packs in the shower I can drool of tight black pants..fair fair.

For some reason, I love her in that usually so unappealing uniform! Maybe it's the contrast between her fresh vividness and beauty, and the shapeless, blah drabness of the uniform.

i love seeing han ye-seul onscreen. fantasy couple remains a huge favorite of mine. but i didn't enjoy her subsequent works (although her gold digger movie made me chuckle).
i always found eric mun a bit 느끼해 looking. haha. when i watched his dramas years ago i had no idea he was an idol star, because i had no idea about korean pop music (or even american). but i don't dislike him, and somehow this pairing appeals to me. i just hope it surprises me and turns out to be really, really good...

I am really interested to see the take on Myung-woll character's feelings about North Korea after she falls in love with Kang-woo. I really like conflicted heroines, especailly when the original side the heroine is one can be construed to the less then good side.
You have to wonber hpw they get anybody to actually come back to North Korea once they get the hell out of there
