Baby-Faced Beauty extended
by javabeans
Baby-Faced Beauty has been performing well in its Monday-Tuesday hour, and now KBS has granted it a 2-episode extension, taking its episode total from a planned 18 to 20.
The Monday-Tuesday timeslot has been relatively close between the three shows, with Miss Ripley settling into second place and Lie To Me in third place, but Baby-Faced Beauty’s lead has been solid enough to merit the added episodes. (For the most recent episode, Baby held the lead with 15.5%, Ripley had a 13.7%, and Lie To Me a 10.1%.)
An executive at KBS stated, “The response to the drama is good, and there are places where the story can be woven together solidly, so we decided to extend it by two episodes. At the start, we’d planned for 18 but left the door open to bring it up to 20 if the reaction was good, so there won’t be any excessive dragging of the story.”
The drama aired its Episode 12 this week, which gives it plenty of time to work in the extension, and I have hopes that this won’t wreck the pacing of the show. Baby-Faced Beauty has done a good job of mixing episodic conflicts to balance out the bigger arcs, so I could easily see it going an extra week.
I’ve been faithfully watching the show (despite not having time to continue the recaps past Episodes 1-4), and have been enjoying it a lot. Especially as Daniel Choi’s character goes from immature man-child to smitten, helpful, and adoring hero. I LOVE when the guy goes out of his way to help the girl but doesn’t take credit for it, because he’s motivated by his care for her, not necessarily the need to announce his good deeds. AGH, he’s so cute, it hurts a little to see him hurt, though we can see that Jang Nara has been held back by her guilt over lying to him.
(Plus, there’s the adorable food motif of the jokbal (pig’s feet) — it comes in a close third after Dokko Jin’s potatoes and Mi-ho’s cow fixation — since Daniel Choi’s family owns a huge franchise that has made them wealthy. But he’s both embarrassed by it (jokbal is a humble food, at odds with his fashion job) and determined to declare financial independence from his parents, so he keeps it a secret, supposing that people would laugh at him for it. And then Jang Nara goes and declares her love of jokbal, telling him that her dream as a child was to marry a jokbal restaurant man. His reaction = the cutest thing ever.)
On top of that, we have the president played by Ryu Jin (whose former coolness now seems more like shy awkwardness), who’s just as adorable in his growing affection for our heroine. Kim Min-seo is treading familiar manipulative-second-lead waters, but I appreciate that her character seemed to at least try to be reasonable early on, before her jealousy got the better of her. Or maybe I have residual affection for her after being Cho-sun in Sungkyunkwan Scandal and the ill-fated ex in Bad Guy.
In any case, Baby-Faced Beauty is my heart-warming feel-good hour on Mondays and Tuesdays (Miss Ripley is interesting to contemplate from a cerebral point of view, while Lie To Me is equal parts cute and frustrating), so yay extension.
So: The finale will air on July 5, which means that its follow-up drama, Myung-wol the Spy, will be premiering on July 11 instead of the previously announced July 4.

That's great, I know it would be extended since the rating shows improvement but still I am so happy to hear that officially!!!YYYYYaaaaayyyy!!!!!!
But I got confused, isn't it supposed to be 16 to 20? because I read it somewhere that it's only 16 episode...but whatever! it goes 20 episodes!!!!yaayyyy!!!!
I never thought this drama would going strong, I watch in Happy Together with these casts, Ryu Jin sounds pessimistic when Yo Jae Sook asked about his scene with JN (when So young went half naked in the lift), he said "well since no body is going to watch this....." JN was just laughing weakly, and Daniel was just bent his head down...
But now I'm just so happy, this drama is my guilty pleasure, the -you are my world- face of Jin Wook, and the -pull yourself together kid- look of So Young always crack a smile of me. Even sometimes it gives me a little cringe...
But now they extended it!!!!! and the fun.....I can't wait to see these two quarreled yet miss each other...

This show is enjoyable and the more I watch it, the more I like especially the dynamics with the main stars. The 2 episodes are needed (hopefully does not go beyond) because they have yet to cover the president's pursuit of Seo Young. After watching the 4 i.e. Baby Face, Lie 2 me, Best Love & Romance Town. I'm dropping Romance Town the other 3 are keepers.

There has been a lot of press stories on the 'bad' girls as everyone was hating them, that is little sister and the second female lead, but saying behind the scenes both got on very well with Jang Nara and have been forming sister bonds that Kim Min-seo says she hopes lasts longer than just the length of the drama. That both ladies are 'hated' simply show they do their roles well.
It also seems the cast gets together for impromptu music time to get rid of stress forming something of band

I am so happy it’s doing well! First I watched this because of Daniel Choi, and now I'm hooked to the hole drama!
But in what ep Jang Nara declares her love of jokbal, telling him that her dream as a child was to marry a jokbal restaurant man?? I want to see that, I think I've missed that one or maybe I haven't watched that ep yet. Too many dramas to watch these days:D

Episode 5, around 17 mins in:
So-young: "If you hate jokbal so much, how do you know so much about it?"
Jin-wook: "Huh? Um, well, uh, I'm just saying that's what it seems like."
So-young: "How can you hate something so delicious?"
Jin-wook: "But don't girls...hate coming to places like this? Say your boyfriend had a jokbal restaurant -- could you tell your mother that proudly?"
So-young: "What's wrong with a jokbal restaurant? When I was a kid, my dream was to marry a jokbal restaurant man."
Jin-wook: "...really?"

That explains why I couldn't remember her saying she wanted to marry a man who owns a jokbal resty, because I had to skip a few episodes due to bad eng subs (which isn't a problem anymore thanks to DS). But the subs from DS is really good, so Imma go hunt it down now. And YAY for extensions. I'm loving Jang Nara and cutey Daniel CHoi. Although, I want the little girl to be happy too. I was aware of the conversation about her wanting to marry a jokbal owner but people change too as their aspiration change so she too
may never thought of marrying a divorcee with a kid after all she is 35 years old now and her biological clock is also running out !,
the screenwriter did not make the president a rival to jin wook to pursue his intention so I do't think president will get the girl as much as I wish for it to happen.

I think I'm the only person who just didn't like the first ten episodes of BFB. >.< Really, if it weren't for Daniel Choi, I would have dropped this sucker around the third or fourth episode---his character was just too endearing for me to let go of him. However, post-episode 10 BFB I'm really digging! I was worried that the ending would be a bit of a rushed job, so I'm definitely on board with this extension.

That's funny, I had completely the opposite. Liked the first 10 episodes, then didn't get why she had to confess so publicly and the last 2 episodes seemed a bit dragging, I take it as a preparation for a new drama-tension when the old lie is over.

I know! I already loved Daniel Choi but after that...sigh..
The thing about his character is that his personality is like a second lead, except he'll eventually get the girl. I love Cha Seung Won, but Daniel Choi's character in BFB takes the cake. No girl can resist such an earnest, adorable guy.
On a side note, I really really hate Jang Nara's hair. She's very slim, so that unflattering bob makes her look like a bobblehead doll. :/

Lemon, that's a precious insight!
Yes, Choi Jin Wook seemed like a second lead and the President the main man....which makes for a really compelling drama. The sense of uncertainty adds to the anticipation.
Jin Wook is dorky, earnest, nice, and always eager to please and yet his relationship with Lee So Young is marked with honesty and something you'd always want to have in the man you want to grow old with...except that he is too young for you!
While the President is the Mr Darcy-type, cool, calm, collected, just the right age for our LSY and yet becomes a puddle of high-school boy awkwardness when faced with his new-found attraction/admiration for her. It does not help that his daughter is so taken with LSY and they create such a cute family portrait among the three of them. And of course, you want the poor girl saved from having an evil stepmom in Kim Min Seo's character, arghhh!
You will be really torn so bad between the two guys vying for LSY's attention.
In episode 12 though it looks like her attention is getting fixed towards the direction of the secret prince of pig's feet (jokbal) kingdom. But with 8 more episodes to go a lot can still happen.
Which keeps me hoping for more fascinating competition to be provided by the President (Ryu Jin). Maybe it will be instrumental in pushing Jin Wook to accept his responsibilities in his family's pig's feet business. Knowing that LSY really love jokbal as JB shared above, Im sure both Jin Wook and So Young will have to come to terms with their own dreams/aspirations and duties/responsibilities in their families. Will they end up together? I really dont know...
BFB rocks!

Maybe, I will start watching this again since it got enough viewership to get extended.
I like Jang Nara but the first 2-3 episodes were series of 'oh, she's poor and her family is totally messed up and being poor, she has to take unbelievable lies and punishments from others for no reason.'
The supporting characters were tiring me out. The awkward but interested prez, the mean staff members, un-understanding mom and selfish sister. Can't she move out and also get a different job? I was feeling frustrated with everyone! I couldn't like the male lead because he wasn't really helping and was whiny all the time. Too bad because I liked him in the Cyrano movie.
Does it get much better later?

The first 4 episodes were set up and warm up. Kinda of kicking it old school drama style. After 5, it picks up speed and keeps a nice even clip. The romantic scenes are not so much sexy as really cute and sweet, though not Hong Sister's fluffy fare. It really does manage to pull through--you just have to give it a chance to do so. Plus I like the twists they out on the second female lead--usually they are two-toned, but recent episodes have proven that she's not just two-toned. So give it a chance.

agreed it all set up, why the mother is like that is latter explained, while So Young getting dumped on often was simply how the younger or last hired person do really get treated often in Korea, that is why is struck a response from viewers in korea, they can relate to what she had to go through, made more dramatic as she was really 34, so even more hurtful pride wise.
As for leaving home, have you watched no Korean drama before? How can she leave home when she the only one that was bringing in any regular income? The family depended on her.

I didn't know who Daniel Choi was before BFB, but he's certainly shown his acting chops in the last couple episodes. I think he does a great (and heartbreaking) job of showing his conflicted emotions during the "bench conversation" after he finds out the truth about Jang Nara's age.
This isn't the most addictive show, but it's been very consistently strong and I'm happy to see it get an extension. Both the male leads are just enough different from the normal kdrama stereotypes to make them feel new and interesting (but still adorable!).

Yay! This is probably my favorite Monday-Tuesday drama (Lie to Me is addicting in that bubble gum kind of way, but let's be honest, I'm watching it to see YEH and KJH be adorable and suck face) in terms of how much I enjoy the main characters. The OTP is adoooorable (Jokbal! Go Stop! Mountain climbing adventures!), the President and his daughter are also adorable, and even the ~dastardly~ second lead female is at times shockingly capable, reasonable, and fair, and doesn't seem remotely comfortable with her one dimensional mother's evil plots. Plus she's not trying to break up the main couple, so I have less reasons to dislike her. I'm glad they planned it out so there wouldn't be a drag with the extension, I hope it works out. :)

Indeed, Baby-face is a light watch cuz it still can't over throw the addiction i have for the crazy-plotted Lie to Me. KJH and YEH's chemistry just 'magnetizes' me.

Ohhh, I hope they do keep the story from dragging and instead flesh things out properly and interestingly, like that executive said they would... I am head over heels in love with this show, and am coming to think Daniel Choi is kind of the greatest thing ever. His character's development is such good t.v.

Hmm, I'm not sure what it is about this drama, but no matter how many chances I give it, it always feels flat. I always read the positive comments about it and say "I'll give it another chance," but I guess it's not my cup of tea.
The main couple's chemistry screams "just friends" to me, even when they're getting into the romance. And Jang Nara's character bores me to death. She's a frustrating character to cheer for because she comes off as spineless and, sadly, not that talented. The whole boss being interested in her thing feels incredibly forced, too.
This show reminds me a lot of a Taiwanese show that came out a few years ago. Can't recall the name, but it involved a younger girl instead of an older woman. She was a fashion designer and there was a similar office dynamic.

I started watching this, and thought here we go again, down trodden femalel, life sucking family, etc., etc. Stuck with it and ever so nicely surprised. She has gritt, has a dream, is working her best through all the odds, and will make it (ok, have learned to type with crossed fingers!). What would really be nice is to see Nara and Daniel's characters over come the age difference and have a nice & believeable romantic conclusion to this. Also a conclusion that does not take place in the last 3 - 5 minutes of the last episode. Please . . . . .

I sort of stopped watching this show when the show dragging out how pitiful Jang Nara's character, but I'm persuaded by a close friend, a person commenting on last LTM thread and this thread to start watching it again =)

not that i dislike choi in the drama,in fact i find him likable, but i dont want jang nara to end up with him due to the wide age gap.i prefer ryu jin for her.he is 2 yr.her senior which per our culture, acceptable.unless she is prepared to be her noona for the rest of her life .well, that is just my opinion.if thats what the writer wanted, who am i to refute.as i said, it would be more entertaining if ryu jin will be the bf here.anyway, she is being liked by his daughter so there wouldn't be any problem in relationships.
