I am actually warming up to the Changmin, finally.
He is showing some warmth towards Da-ji, so that makes me happy. He seems to be pouting less and smiling more.
Joo Sang-Wook, meanwhile, is so beautiful, I am still rooting for him. The writers need to convince me Da-ji would NOT pick him over Dong-ju. He really is a sweet heart to her.

Aw, don't worry about that Vionnie. Much as it breaks my heart to admit it, I don't think Choi Siwon-ssi even knows we exist. But if you're looking to have a one-sided romance with a Korean star, I'd bet anything that Taecyeon does know that we exist, if only because people were tweeting Javabean's acting critique to him nonstop. He probably read it and got all pissed. ;) But if he starts being all "in the moment" when he acts, we'll know it's because of JB.

Glorious Friday (well, except for the pile-up of work, but no matter).
Very important Kdrama matter to throw into the void today: if you had to, would you want a Kdrama character to carry you piggyback or carry you in his/her arms?
I've never piggybacked anyone (except my dad when I was like 5 and that doesn't count, lol), but [LONG STORY ALERT] in college, this nutty weightlifting guy I knew, not very well or anything, suddenly came over and scooped me up in his arms. He was kinda cute, I have to admit, and I'm no lightweight, so the fact he even got me airborne was pretty impressive, but you know how I reacted? I sunk my teeth into his arm and he let out a yowl before depositing me back into my seat. Yeah, I bit him. Some weird defense mechanism I never knew I had.
So, definitely piggyback for me. Or better yet, since most Kdrama heroes (and other assorted desirable characters) are chaebol, they can just call me a limo. I'd like to be 'carried' home in a limo, lol. I admit - I'm that shallow.
So, what would it be for you? Piggyback or princess style? Oh and who would you let carry you? Me - a toss-up between good old Guh-Ro and Gu. Yong. Ha. (His name must be spelled thus).
Have a fab Friday and weekend!

anyway, i would probably go for Oh Ji-ho as my piggyback-er. i don't even like him that much, but man, have you seen his body? those broad shoulders, those arms....yeh.
or Jae-shin...because that man is irresistible. Yong-ha can be the driver or the coachman. :D

I prefer princess style because 1) the type of clothing that I wear: normally skirt/dress/saree/kimono as my bum makes many pants either uncomfortable or unattractive, 2) you can look in their face and feel their heartbeat or hide your face in their neck, 3) i'm prissy. As much as I love princess style though, I'd never let someone other than my significant partner do so just because I feel that they are too intimate.
However, my hubby rarely gives me princess style rides if I complain that my feet are tired or I don't want to get my shoes dirty. Instead, if there is no cart or something to push me in, he offers piggyback rides. We actually have several family pictures of him carrying me thus on family outings. I confess that I used to dislike this until I began to watch kdramas. Previously, I always felt like he was treating me like a little kid when he gave me piggyback rides. If I complained about that, he'd offer the shoulders to make me feel even more juvenile or remind me that I shouldn't prefer stilettos so much or mention that his back hurts too badly for princess style since I've gained 20 lbs.
In any case, as I've become more accepting of piggy back rides, I think that, if Sukkie (Jang Geun Seok) had the physical strength to do so, I'd like to experience one reminiscent of Marry Me, Mary (Stayed Out All Night).
Limos are nice too but I prefer convertibles. Horses can smell and be moody.

I am missing your handmade MV's and I am thinking of starting one for MP.
If you will indulge me, I have some questions, though.
What software do you use to edit?
Do you have downloads of the episodes to cut from?
How long does it take you to do one ~4 min video?
What is your inspiration as far as songs?
How do you find/have so many different styles of songs?
Thanks!

First off you can use anything to edit. I do quick dirty edits in imovie most of the time and they take me about 15 minutes or less for the actual editing time.
Music is based on what hits you while watching the show. I have had several hit me while watching DH but there is already so much music on that show. What the heck is the point of editing it to music?
My Princess gives me many ideas but most of them are depressing so I have been keeping out of it. (don't know why).
To edit you will need a copy of the raw. but I don't keep them cause you run out of storage after the first few tera are filled up :P

I wanted to get in all the SSH slapstick moments.
And KTH's queenly faces. Now that I think about some of my favorite scenes, like in the car, there isn't much visually going on.
My first step is to get the raw, which I haven't done yet.

Happy Friday to all!!!!
I really like the way "Dream High" is turning out to be, I also think that from all the "Idols" the one that will benefit in the long run is "Eun Jung", she is doing such a great job at playing the "Female Canine" girl, I think from "Coffee House", to "Dream High" she is the one that her acting has improve the most, I just hope the soon she will be the main lead, since she is proving that she has what it takes to carry a project on her own!!!
"My Princess", is all "Good", Seol, still my favorite heroine of 2011 so far, Seol FTW!!!!

Thank the Lord it's Friday! Whoooo! *wipes brow* Man, I don't know about you all, but I am reddeh for some o' that sweet, sexeh weekend, yu-huh!
Well, I'm glad that's off my chest. So, I had a meta question about this site as it pertains to Hallyu. How aware of this site are the Korean entertainment powers-that-be? As we know, Korea is completely obsessed with spreading and maintaining Hallyu. Spreading culture is nothing I've ever really thought about because I live in the United States, and the US is -- by far -- the most dominant exporter of culture worldwide. The world pretty much marches to the cultural beat of the US (I'm not saying that this is a good thing, I'm just saying it is what it is and, yes, I understand that China and the Middle East are not really feeling the US right now).
ANYWAY, Enswers just bought Silicon Valley-based Soompi because they would like to get a larger imprint in the US, and thereby expand the reach of Hallyu throughout the global English-language community. That's cool, I guess. But then it got me thinking about this site. We don't do much with k-pop here, but this the English-language site for k-drama. Seriously, google "Korean Drama" and this is the third listing. There are over a billion English-speakers worldwide. No matter what language is spoken in any other country, one can always find a significant percentage of people speaking and doing business in English. Young people the world over are learning English (along with Chinese) and they're the consumers of tomorrow. Javabeans and Girlfriday have tens and tens of thousands of readers. Their recaps are linked by Soompi and other Hallyu sites. They get invited to conventions. They're based in the US, specifically on the West Coast, which has got to be attractive as frak. Javabeans gave a critique of Taecyeon's acting with the disclaimer that he'll probably never read it...but I'm willing to bet that he has. He lived in the US for seven years during his teens, and he's completely fluent in English; he's an asset and I'll bet he takes the English-language pulse from time to time. Since the US is the next focal point for maintaining Hallyu, the Korean cultural top-dogs have to know about Dramabeans and its loyal minions.
I was just wondering about it, because sometimes we veer off of drama into acting critiques and cultural deconstruction, which is awesome, but I sometimes wonder if there are more people reading than just the English-language consumers. It kind of makes me want to be nicer on this site. Kind of, but not really. It also makes me want to give them a piece of my mind (presumptuous of me, I know). I don't think for a second that anything I say would affect the Korean entertainment industry or culture, but I do wonder how far the reach is for this site. Were Korean drama-watchers aware of the brouhaha that occurred here due to the forced bed hug in Secret Garden? I doubt it but I wonder. When people think about a drama's resale potential, do they take into account some of the mainstays that an international audience might find awkward and/or offensive? I doubt it. But I wonder.
So, if they ever read this: Siwon, I know you can understand this. Marry me! Kthxbai.

Shit, that was long. Sorry, y'all!
In other news, my didi (unni for you Hallyu types) is spending a year in Korea finishing up her PhD. She has been there for almost eight months and she does a bang-up impression of an ahjumma! It makes me laugh until I'm blue in the face. Anyway, we would usually communicate in English or elementary Hindi, but now we've been adding Fail!Korean to the mix. When we Skype, the greetings have gone from "Hi Didi, tum kaisi ho?" to "Unni! Annyeong!" complete with spastic waving. I feel so multi-cultural. *pats self on the back*
We've been watching Dream High together and she says that people are really taking notice of Kim Soo-hyun over there, especially teenagers and noonas (rawr). Apparently his star is shooting through the atmosphere now, so hopefully we'll be seeing a lot more of him! I just can't wait for the next two episodes. I'm dying to see where Sam-dong's character goes from here!

"Since the US is the next focal point for maintaining Hallyu, the Korean cultural top-dogs have to know about Dramabeans and its loyal minions."
I read a business news story about Hallyu's growth potential vs ROIC for pushing into the US market.
At that point in time, China was the area they picked to focus on over the English speaking US.
The US is extremely closed to non-english speaking entertainment. On top of that, we have so much of our own garbage atracking large crowds and cash: Jersey Shore, Kardashians, Justin Beiber, it is tough for anyone else to be noticed.
I have tried to
forcepass on my K-pop, K-drama love to friends and family in vain. While we see these things through lenses all fuzzy and warm, others can't see past the strange, foreign. My neighbor, who faught in Korea, has a 60 year old version of that country in his head. When I told him Seoul nowadays was as bright and exciting as NYC or Tokyo, he bristled.
How many American Asian stars do we have on screen, radio today? How many Asian male models do you see in print ads versus NOT? I live in hope that somebody - US or imported - in some media catches fire and makes it. Rain? Hyun Bin? Other Asian in Glee?
Until then, I'll watch and listen to what I love and thank Dramabeans, MySoju, Dramafever for delivering my crack.

It would be sad if the Hallyu Wave put all its eggs in one (American) basket.
I discovered k-dramas with French subtitles through friends from Vietnam, France and Mauritius.
K-dramas are huge in Latin America as well.
I've bonded, in Argentina, with complete strangers over our Kim-Sam-Soon-love.
It's similar to the worldwide love of Coronation Street for English speakers (excluding the US).

Yep, the default Asian in advertisement and TV shows are female; whereas for blacks, the females get the shaft.
The US market is really closed to foreign language entertainment compared to Europe, Asia or South America.
Heck, even British sitcoms have to be redone for the US market, despite being in English (All In The Family, Three's Company, The Office, Coupling, etc.).

Just wanted to play off of some of your thoughts. In terms of kpop, JYP made a big gamble to try and break into the US market with the WonderGirls last year by partnering with Disney. Big flop from what I could tell with the unintended consequence that WG lost popularity in Korea. Maybe the boy groups can penetrate the market, but probably not very deeply. Major problem is the language accent; have no idea why American english is so difficult for Koreans to pronounce. WG and other kpop groups are far more successful in penetrating the Asian markets, especially China, and I think JYP learned his lesson and will market girl groups primarily in Asia and make good money there.
As to kdramas, they are fun but there will be major cultural problems if kdramas try to hit maintstream US. You pointed out the SG bed problem. Well, what about the wrist grab and drag or the slapping: these are criminal offenses in all 50 states. A lot of women's groups would have a field day protesting the treatment of women in kdramas. Or the infamous mother-in-laws or the idolization of class or material goods or the excessive drinking. All are prime protest subjects. Maybe we can laugh about it, but in the US there are a heck of a lot of PC police running around just itching to start a confrontation.

Well, exposure to these dramas may be a good way to broaden perspectives, to introduce the concept that there are other cultures out there outside the US just in the planet called Earth. The audience should not forget the cultural context when watching.
I've been learning about Korean culture because of the shows.

problem is that for every 1 American who is willing to accept and learn about other cultures, there are 20 who are close minded and insist that American culture is superior so everyone must adopt American values. Americans have such huge egos that they insist on interfering with every other culture and are willing to pay to interfere. Meanwhile despots are more than happy to take American money under the pretext of being friends and instilling democracy. What a joke!!

You have a very negative view of Americans. I would like to politely disagree with you as I cannot claim any other culture, and say that my people aren't culturally stupid, we just have a lot to learn. There are how many major cultures in America? And I'm not talking about the ones based on skin color and where-your-daddy-from... the American South is different from the American Southwest is different from the American East Coast is different from Alaska is different from the American West Coast is different from the American Plains is different from the American Midwest... and I haven't even named all of them! Give us some kind of slack! We don't know every single person's culture here! We've got a lot of our own to contend with!

Does anyone here watch Love Buffet? When I first started watching it, I thought I would stop after a few eps, cos Taiwan dramas always end up annoying me. The lead girl always overdoes the cuteness, and I dont know why but masses of ppl gather when the leads interact with each other....weird: imagine a big group of ppl staring from the sides while the two leads are talking to each other. This happens in a lot of scenes. It's really annoying. Anyway, Love Buffet is surprisingly good, and after 8 eps, what do you know, I'm still faithfully tuning to it every week.
There's just something so fresh about the show, from the really likeable lead actress to the humorous dialogue to the empathy I feel for Xiao Feng (the lead girl)'s pain as she goes through the pangs of first love. A lot of ppl are going ga-ga over Aaron, but to me, the heart and core of this show is Xiao Feng. She is a great actress, and she moves me with her poignant voiceovers and her tears.
My most fav scene was last ep....the heartbreaking scene at the top of the hill: her tears at the peak....I love how Calvin consoled her, how tender he was, I love how gently he murmured,"Even if you weep, you still have to open your eyes and see the beauty before your eyes...it would be such a waste if you do not look" And she raised her eyes and gazed at the beautiful scenery below her, with tears cascading down her face.....Ahhhh, I wept too at that point....it was so beautiful....one of the best scenes ever in a drama. Such a rich scene: it was like he was imploring her to open her eyes and look carefully and realise who it is she truly loves....Then he folded her ever so tenderly into his arms, as she rested her head trustingly against his.....lovely, lovely scene....MP, why can't you do that for me?
So I'm rooting for Calvin and Xiao Feng. Aaron's a jerk. Any thoughts?

ahhh, is that scene from ep 8?? gah i haven't finish yet *covers eyes*
anyways, i agree with you on what you said about tw-dramas, they just have this tendency to annoy the heck out of me, or maybe im just terrible at picking the good ones. the last t-drama i thoroughly enjoyed was Meteor Garden (which was...a decade ago). so yeh, even though i was excited about LB (since it's based on Parfait Tic! -one of my many obsessions back in the early high school years), i wasn't expecting much from it.
then after the first episode, i was surprised at how good it was and how i actually did not loathe the main actors. I was also amazed at how perfectly the drama captured every little detail of the original manga, from the tone, to the characters, and right down to their clothes and hairstyles.
It was my first time seeing Calvin in a drama, but i thought he was fantastic as Dai-ya. Aaron wasn't too shabby either and the main actress was surprisingly endearing, though her voice could be a lil grating.
I never finish the manga so i have no idea Xiao Feng ended with, but from watching the drama, i am rooting for Ah-yi, he just have more chemistry with her imo. but i am feeling that the show is pushing twds the other pairing, ever since that stupid ex-gf showed up. omg how i hate her, it's like she expects everything to revolve around her and she seems to have no friends except for Ah-yi. i mean, hello woman, he has a life too! why must you pester him so? just grow a pair! but stupid Ah-yi stupidly falls for her crap anyway and ends up hurting Xiao Feng and now i am forced to switch ship because of his jerk-ery. yes, i am majorly annoyed.
yeh, other than that, everything continues to be good and adorable.

I watch LB and I too am surprised that I keep coming back to watch it. Personally I want Xiao Feng to end up with Da Ye. Ah Yi is the one that consoled Xiao Feng and is always there to help her, but just like Xiao Feng's sister said, I think he mixes up sympathy with love, that is why he has this toxic relationship with Yin Zhi (I don't think he is a jerk, he is just seriously socially ackward). Da Ye on the other hand is the character that needed to grow up more and Xiao Feng did that for him. He learned to love someone, deeply and unconditionally, so they are clearly meant for each other.
Have any of you seen Fated to Love You? It is also a Taiwanese Drama, I thought it was really good.

I've been meaning to watch Prince Turns into a Frog since I already knew it is the chick. If it is half as good as Fated to Love you I'm in.
To answer Justine's question. LB is kinda boring in the beginning I know, and it does tend to just run through story arcs, but it gets better with each episode. Although I like it I consider it more of a I-need-a-Drama-to-watch-on-Monday-while-waiting-for-Dream-High-subs thing. Besides Calvin is just so sunny, I cannot avoid watching!!!!! I imagine he is the type of person to come into a room and just light it up... Anyway, if anything just watch it because its cute.

@ Agatha You got to watch Frog Prince.....it's so good and made me cry. My all-time favourite drama. It's just so heartwarming and lovely. It's a remake of Save the last dance, the Eugene Kor drama. But in this case, the Taiwan version is so much better. Yeah, Team Calvin for me too. I love Calvin too ..... he's so sunny compared to dour silent aaron. Poor Aaron....he must be so frus to act like that when in real life he's the opposite.

Okay, YY, I had an HONEST attempt to try watching Love Buffet. I knew it was based off of Parfait Tic, which was one of my favorite mangas until they screwed up my hopes of seeing Fuuko ending up with Ichi, because I really liked Ichi in the manga UNTIL the ex debacle. And from then on it went pretty much downhill..
But, I just couldn't get into it.
I think it's because I read the manga beforehand. In the manga, Fuuko is so naturally cute and has a nice natural charisma that makes me like her! But in the first episode, I just wasn't... into her. She fell flat. I'm glad there was no overacting, but the thing is, she was just boring-ish. I didn't see the natural charisma/cuteness come out of her!!
IDK, stilted expectations, I think. MAYBE I will try again. But in the meantime I think I'm going to rewatch Prosecutor Princess (idk why, but sort of wanted to rewatch that LOL)...

I skimmed everyone's posts about LB because I don't want to be spoiled and I plan to watch it someday...just not now what with school work and my abhorrent fear of TWdramas ever since the trauma I got from Hana Kimi.... it's a permanent stain on my young heart.
On the other hand, I don't think I can be spoiled much since I have "read" the complete manga twice (unless the drama messes up big time). But I just had to make a comment because you're all talking about Parfait Tic, the love of my high school life (up to volume 8...*grumbles*). But back in the heydays when scanlations were slow, I had to beg my aunt to send all the new Chinese volumes to me asap so that I could continue the story...and my Chinese is elementary at best, so I did what any fangirl would do.... I bugged my parents to practically read the entire girly romcom story to me so that I could gush about the love triangle dilemma unabashedly at their side. So at least I sorta-kinda-not-really improved my Chinese, while still finished the story.
P.S. TEAM DAIYA FTW!!!!!!!

OMGGGGGGG!!!! I know I'm going to sound like a broken record because I wouldn't stop sulking about it IRL to anyone and everyone who was within earshots when I finished the series. Seriously, if there was a time machine invented, I would jump right into it, crank it back to the time they were filming the ending and whip whoever's ass it was that decided that the non-ending was a good idea. I mean, I wasn't expecting anything spectacular since I had watched the previous 15 episodes without much expectations to begin with. But... I just don't see why they couldn't end it with the confession and honesty that they were building up to in the announcer's room. I gave up on the manga long ago, it just wasn't my cup of tea despite the gender-bending, but I assumed it ended with some sort of out-in-the-open confession and not some shitty-round-about-time-wasting-filler of a non-ending.

I have to say I think both guys saved the drama from being a complete disaster (it was really close tho). Wu Zun and Jiro Wang were just so funny (specially Jiro, I mean how funny is it when he accepts he is "gay"?) it nearly made up for Ella's weird acting. Plus the cute from both was the thing that kept me watching till the end. But when I saw the end I nearly broke my computer and shouted myself hoarse, I mean COME ON!!!! 15 episodes and you leave me hanging.....F.U I say... I wasted nearly 20 hours of my life...

Yeah I'm Team Da Ye too!!!!!! And my all-time fav is Frog Prince. Loved it. In fact I rewatched it many times and found the plot, the script and the ost really good. Knew every song in that ost....
@clichique I've never read the manga so I think I went into this show without any expectations. And it just delights me cos I was expecting the usual annoying crap.
I find Ah Yi's actions of late weird....he was the one who started chasing Xiao Feng, and now all of a sudden cos of the ex-bitch gf's appearance, he turns cold towards her? Very odd....must be a flaw in the plot.....cos who behaves that way in real life? Aaron has always been such a kind decent boy, and for him to suddenly show this jerk side is really odd. Doesn't add up.
I'm so happy there are so many LB lovers here....been dying to discuss the show. I bet she ends up with Calvin. But it's kind of awkward to switch from one brother to another: if you marry one, the other will be your bro-in-law.....AWKWARD!!!!!! But I really like the script and Xiao Feng's sweet voiceovers: "Is love like that?" she muses at one part. "If it doesn't work with A, you switch to B, and from B to C...." That got me thinking....in the fickleness of love relationships, love IS exactly like Xiao Feng says, if your Great Romance doesn't work out, practicality demands we switch to another less attractive alternative, and if that doesn't work out, why, look around for another ..... sad but so true. Dreams die but life goes on. To hold on to and wait for that One Great Love is foolish and would only hurt more. Move on to another New Love.....you may never love this new love as much as you did your first love but in time, love will grow.
Unfortunately for poor Xiao Feng, she seems destined for another broken heart. I wonder who it is she truly loves? Did she turn to Ah Yi on the rebound? And if Ah Yi doesn't love her, and she goes back to Da Ye, then who is it she truly loves this time around? Or is her heart still with Da Ye all this time? She just forced herself to think of him as a good friend?
I'm so eagerly waiting for tomorrow's ep.....Aaron's going off somewhere and I think the plot is pushing her towards Calvin. Calvin loves her I feel, he rejected her the first time cos he thought Aaron loves her. Go Calvin!

Probably going to purchase the leaf bead one – not gonna lie – am doing this to get the Hand Towel’s attention.
I'm hoping the shinyness of the beads attracts his brain waves to mine. That is so going to happen.
Here are my latest Hand Towel verses
I know that I can’t own a person per se.
It’s illegal or “wrong” in most lands.
But considering the Hand Towel’s not really real,
I’m ready to challenge these bans.
I’ll buy him white shirts and cool three piece suits.
If he wants, I will tear off some sleeves.
As long as he stays by my side nights and days
So I can watch him paint beaches and trees.
If a “sister” show up, I’ll use violence against her.
If a princess appears, she’ll be history.
If a heart patient bothers him off in the woods,
when she’s gone, I'll pretend it’s a mystery.
Please, can I keep him all to myself?
As Javabeans says: MINE.MINE.MINE.
If you’re nice to me, maybe I’ll let you come over.
And we'll all take turns at “Shower time.”

In some cultures, Valentine's Day is also Friendship Day, so Happy (almost) Valentine's Day, yorubun!
I know I'm not alone in wanting to send JB and GF lots of extra lerve and appreciation for being such talented, witty, and dedicated superheroines who make our world a better place every single day. (How'd we get so lucky?)
And another shout out for the song-of-the-day feature-- DB is just phenomenally awesome. I do have an eensy-weensy request regarding said feature, however: could you try to make sure that an English translation of the song title is included (purty please)? A couple of the titles of songs I DL-ed from GF's recent posts were only written in Hangul. Merci beaucoup! U R D bestest!

Loving Dream High.. but i'm annoyed that SD is going deaf. i hope that some miracle cure comes along for him.. so NOT fair that he's the one that's putting in his all by 21893838923% and then gets screwed out of hearing it. don't go through w/ it, Show! Don't make SD deaf!!!!!!

I have my theories that he is not really going deaf, it is just an after-effect from when he got hit on the head by that flower pot.
Otherwise, the kdrama world will indeed be too unfair. and as we all know, it isnt! (with some exceptions where the awesome 2nd lead never gets the girl. ehem)
A girl is allowed to hope, no???????

naaaah i dont think thye'll kill him...but i'd be pissed too if he goes deaf and they just decide if he's better of as a music producer or something...u cant bring the guy and make him go through all that and not let him become successful!...and he has to be K or else who else could be K?....i dont care if Hyemi ends up with JG too in fact i dont want her with SD...also this will be the second drama this year when a second lead gets the girl after QoR...idk why this is so funny to me

"I have my theories that he is not really going deaf, it is just an after-effect from when he got hit on the head by that flower pot. "
That's what I'm thinking also....
I'm not sure if I'm on board with any pair too.... I mean they're still in HIGH SCHOOL! I feel it's a little too early to decide who your one true love without living outside of the comfort zone... may just be me though.
I think K will either be SD or PS... call me crazy but she's the quiet force awaiting to be fling into stardom; such an understated strength and resilience. I'm also hanging onto what Hyun Joong 2.0 said at the beginning of the drama.

Hello all, happy Friday! So glad to be out of the office early for once. I'm finding MP and DH strangely addictive despite the inconsistencies in acting, editing and directing. I'm normally more uptight about those and the plot but I feel ready to forgive anyone anything when I see KSH's face lol so...
In other news I've just started watching running man and must HIGHLY recommend it especially for Yoo Jae Suk fans. I'm a huge fan of his frankly, especially after XMan and Family Outing. I miss FO so much I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the last episode; I'm obviously in denial, it's like if I pretend it's never ended then it would never have. Anyway RM is fortunately hilarious and stopping up the gap quite well so yay! ...this is coming on the back of me having stopped watching WGM as well since I don't want to believe that GaKwon left the show sigh.
Anyone with variety shows you want to recommend?

I have just finished watching Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang (thanks to DB for that one episode recap that made me curious enough to watch it) and I want to know, what the heck happened to Choon-Hyangs mom? Did the writers just decide to get rid of the character or was there a problem with the actress of what???

It's like Family Matters when the younger sister goes upstairs and never returns. You would have to dig through archived gossip to know if there is any juicy reason behind it. But personaly I think once she played her part and there was no need for her anymore. Once the daughter went into hiding (from ol' crazy must have you guy), the mother couldn't be in the picture anymore. Honestly I didn't miss her much either.

I vaguely remember reading that the actres who played the mom became incapacitated in some way - got into a car accident, maybe?
Instead of confusing everyone with a new actress they just ignored the character for the rest of the series.

Annoyingly, there's no explanation that I can find, and while I adore the Hong sisters' writing, sometimes these 'little' things remind me that they are not perfect (and it was their first drama, so we see less loose ends than ever now in their newer material), as well as the unidentifiable quantities that may have made "MOM" disappear. Was the actress committed elsewhere? Did the director have a change of direction? et cetera
But I'm willing to listen to facts or plausible theories, if anyone has them .... :)

i don't think anyone knows for sure what will happen next, the military is well respected there (some of the top generals are friends with him though), they said they will allow for free and fair elections, so I guess we just have to see, at least the regime has gone, really happy for the egyptians, they've been really brave and steadfast, victory to Egyptian Revolution!

IMO, President Mubarak resigning was a formality. Once a leader loses control of the military (as shown when he sent troops out and they refused to take action) he is no longer the leader of a country. I hope that the military doesn't stay in charge, as no military has ever been accomplished in democracy... with the possible exception of Sparta, but even that eventually failed (which of course had more to do with currency and refusal to change than any other reason). I'm worried about how everything will fall out, because creating order out of chaos has never proven to be easy. In most cases (I'm not sure about this particular one,) a working corrupted government is better than a military dictatorship. I'm not certain the Egyptian people have traded up, but I'm praying that they will be protected.

brooke is right though--a military state is NOT necessarily a trade-up. Just means that the law enforcement through military force can be a lot more blatant.
Depends on how they had it before as to how different things will be, but seriously, this could be bad for them.
I hope they hold some elections and get a new and honest president in soon before the military has a chance to settle in. :-/

The Egyptian military is a well-respected figure in eyes of the Egyptian people. The fact that they haven't done anything to hurt the people during this 18 day protest and the fact that they have done their very best to keep the peace (by fending off pro-Mubarak rioters) makes them reliable and dependable. The army generals were also the ones who convened on Thursday and they promised the people Mubarak would step down. The military pressure forced him to step down on behalf of the people.
The military regime is something to look forward to. They have plenty of capable generals whose sole interest is only what's good for Egypt. They will do their jobs well. It won't be easy but we're pretty sure they're capable enough to handle our sad nation.>,,<
Thank you so much everyone for your prayers. I think it's kinda awesome that a couple of weeks ago, in OT #172, I was asking for prayers for the Egyptian people. now I'm here to convey my thanks and my hopeful feelings.=D My dad's been calling all his friends and relatives and the mood is festive over all.

First of all, congrats to any and all Egyptian readers here. Congrats, too, to all Tunisians. Most of all, to all my Arab brothers and sisters, you have made us all so proud.
You pulled off a miracle, you brought about one of the biggest downfalls since the passive resistance movement that eventually brought down British rule over India in 1947. Seriously, the magnitude of today will reverberate for generations -- or one hopes. I'm still nervous.
x0mi07, are you Egyptian? Thanks for your post; it's very informative, even with paragraphs missing. Are there other Egyptians here? I'm curious what you all think of General Tantawi. His salute to the martyrs made me burst out in tears (well, I've been crying on and off for two weeks now from the emotional rollercoaster ride). However, there is something about Tantawi that makes me very nervous. (Have you all read wikileaks docs on the regime, including the army? I hope you do, and I hope they are translated into Arabic and widely distributed.)
Egyptians, I hope you will enjoy the next couple of days, but please remain vigilant. I hope a civil government body is constituted within the next week to oversee the transition. If it takes any longer than that, you may have a soft coup on your hands -- which would be devastating.
Best case scenario: Immediate revoking of the emergency law and set up of a civil coalition interim gov. who will work with army to set up systems so that elections can take place in a year.
I understand why the military has to take over. Mubarak's regime wiped out -- as in killed -- all viable opposition leaders, esp. over the past 10 years. There is a civil society "vacuum," but the leaders of the opposition, the young men and women of the revolution, have shown that they are perfectly capable of leading.
So if the army comes out and says that emergency rule needs to remain for the time being, I'll be very scared. No military is ever pro-democracy, especially one that gets 1.5 billion/year in unconditional--yup, unconditional--aid from a foreign government. But I can see why this is the best option for now.
For now, for now, for now, I am so happy. I am still in shock and awe, of the good kind. I watched the announcement live on Al Jazeera, and I loved how the reporter, after the 50 sec announcement from Suleiman, said, "Well, that's it then. He's gone." And it took me a full minutes to make sense of it all. It was also fun to watch Twitter explode. And my phone went crazy with calls from friends of all faiths, colors, backgrounds. It was amazing. Egypt, thank you.
Thank you, martyrs of the Jan 25 Revolution: http://1000memories.com/egypt
More apropos of Dramabeans, though: I can now finally relax enough to watch My Princess 10, 11, 12. SSH, I'm still here. You never left my heart, you unbelievably handsome you! :-)

Thanks for this post. Really, it is hard for people in America to believe anything they see on TV anymore, so hearing from someone in Egypt helps us understand a lot more of what we're being told about Egypt. I know almost nothing about African politics, but I made my assumptions based on firmly established historical patterns and with the knowledge that history has a tendency to repeat itself. I pray that the Egyptians have a good experience with their military in charge, and that things quickly stabilize and become beneficial to all involved.
Please keep posting, as I like to know what is going on in the world.

Thanks YY!^^ it'd had been a very nerve-wracking 18 days...^^ am thankful for DB and kdramas in general cuz after a whole day of watching and calling people and sending aid (financial, psychological, and otherwise), i unwind with mp.=D my dad's had it rough though... he barely slept watching the news... even though he had surgeries and stuff... -___-;; I AM SO FREAKIN' THANKFUL THAT IT'S ALL OVER!XD XD XD
We can't go to Egypt this June cuz the military said they'll be trying to fix as much as they can within the next six months so we want to wait til it all settles down.... so that means we can go to my mom's family in the Philippines!^^ WOOT!^^ MORE K-POP & KDRAMA stuff for me!XD am excited too...=P So... to nom_kitteh, I'm filipina-egyptian.=D
ahhh... anyway, to update everyone: the military's doing well so far. Some of the people are still in Tahrir Square since they're waiting for they key demands to be met. Other countries can stop fretting about the fate of Israel (US was really worried about that) since the military promised to maintain the peace. Of course, no one really wants to go to war... that's uber expensive. The Egyptian parliament (rigged and filled with 99% Mubarak people) has been dissolved (yey!^^) The military council members are holding regular meetings with multiple representatives of various mubarak oppositions to discuss changes. And oh yeah... What else?... ermmm... I think the validity of the constitution (altered in Mubarak's favor) has been suspended. The military plans to stay only for six months and their goal is to set up favorable conditions for a proper democratic government "legitimized by the people" <-- their words not mine.=D
In case there are people worried about the muslim brotherhood taking a huge role (personally, I don't mind since Egypt is predominantly a muslim country anyway; it's an open one though), they won't. The Egyptian revolution happened thanks mostly to the youth and their smart use of social networking. The Jan 25 revolution started on facebook and twitter and then spread by word of mouth after the internet was shut down. The old people who joined did it for their kids. Witnessing what the youth can do once they set their minds to it.... pretty inspiring right?XD

x0mi07, thanks for all the insider news and update on the state of your nation Egypt. I am from the Philippines and I know how a country under a dictatorship for 15 years have been overthrown by the military because of civil, political and military anomalies and violations back in '86. The killing of Benigno Aquino in '83, considered patriot, husband of the late Pres Cory Aquino and father of now Pres Noynoy Aquino, triggered the People Power movement that supported the military junta. The next years will be very crucial and painful for Egypt as your people pick up the pieces from those years of turmoil and abuse. Not easy. After 25 years we are still working hard on it. Your Filipino mom would have told you about all of these. Have you stayed long in the Phil or mostly in Egypt?
Im not very well versed with the Arab set-up. All I know is that Egypt is crucial to USA's strategic alliance with Israel who has a special place in the history of mankind. Whoever protects Israel is also blessed as a nation as what we see from Netherland's (previously United Provinces), United Kingdom and United States of America's hegemony. But it is now the Asian Century according to many wise observers. And we now see the fast rise of China, India and no wonder Hallyu wave is all around us. With the economic downturn in '08, we see the slow downslide of american and some european nations, not only economically but also cultural and intellectual predominance. Even Vietnam is strengthening its conquest of the seas with its growing shipbuilding industry. The changes that will happen in Egypt is no accident. Nay, nothing is an accident at all. Everything is interconnected.
The Hallyu Wave is very telling of all of these. The reason why we suddenly find korean guys far hotter than Brad Pitt now is not an accident at all. :-)

So I had a free day and decided to start a new drama. I chose Let's go to the beach, typical plot 4 main characters, chaebol family, competitive half brothers, and of course the love triangle. But the reason i keep watching is Lee Wan, so hot and he plays a life guard. Is it wrong to watch a drama with the only motivation being the lead taking his shirt off many many many times?

I wonder how offensive a male version of this thread would be?
Are we really more innocent in our love of these beautuful men? I think we are, but I'm rather biased.

My husband said if I collected all three for him then he would get me T.O.P http://www.g4tv.com/videos/51162/Starcraft-2-WoW-Diablo-Cosplay-Video/ and I am completely not offended by this deal.
It depends on how you view what we do. Are we seriously going to marry our idols? Aren't we just living out our fantasies with each other? I view this like when I was a little girl, sitting around with my friends and telling each other how we were going to grow up and marry Johnny Depp and live in the Bahamas and have a banana farm. It's like a great big game of pretend, only we aren't playing with our Barbies. And most of us our pretty monogamous with our beautiful men, and that kind of feels innocent to me.
My guys (I live in a house of dudes) do the same thing, only it tends to be more sexual and the women have a little bit more generic role to fulfill.
I think it's a rather healthy method of exercising the imagination, and I can't see how it would be that offensive at all if one were to really look at it. I think it would be harder to say we were innocent if we were say, rerouting spy satellites to take pictures of our I Lub You's houses, breaking into hotel registrations to find out where they were sleeping, picking the lock to their houses to steal their clothing and then wearing it out to the local bar... oh wait, someone really did that with Brad Pitt, didn't they? Anyway, that's not healthy.
The American male version of this thread is kind of like... Maxim Magazine, don't you think?

Agree with you. If Hand Towel were a girl, he'd be in there!
I was relieved to find out a bunch of ahjumas at my office had their eyes on the cute fit men just to look.
We giggle and blush and talk about these beings as playthings, but not in explicitly sexual terms. Hint hints, yes.
I love meeting here and meeting new pretty faces to admire, and discuss why they make us so happy. Because it makes me happy.
(My first crush was either Donny Osmond or David Cassidy.)

I just didn't find character development realistic.
THE Saving Grace for me was the acting of Jun In Hwa as Seo In Sook. She was pretty awesome. Otherwise, I expected the plot to be over the top... but I also hoped for, shall I say, consistent substance.
As soon as I though, hey, this is deep and awesome... there was something just too stupid to go with.

Happy Friday!
With no reason, I started to marathon Dong Yi from 4 week ago till now. It is the 1st time, I marathon more than 20 something episode drama. I usually watch the long drama while it airs in TV.
I aimed to take some break from watching Comrades, even it is good, I admitted, after 6 episode watching people kill each other with desperate look but can not do something about it kinda made me felt "ok it is good but no fun anymore". So it has been a long break, why keep me that long? it is Dong Yi, hello??
Jonnaa *rollingtheeyes* mamma-nim *risingeyebrows* naerii *headdesking*
Plus I can't really connect with a love confession from a man who already has 2 wives (they're only ones that I know, probably there are more) to a woman who he calls her "child" (that's what I know from subbing). Thus no matter how much I like Jee Jeen-he, every time he and Han Yoo-jo are on screen, I can't help but giggling (that MBC award for JJH is no joke). And how sad the queen and Bae Soo-bin's character?

There are a bunch of us who have a group on FB. We watch a show together every Sunday night, and then we spend the week doing pretty much the same thing that we do on Open Thread. We share pictures of each other and since the group is private it doesn't get out past ourselves.
You can find the group by friending me or anyone else who's in it. My e-mail address is the same thing as my handle @gmail.com so it should be very easy to find either myself or Viola. I friend pretty much everyone who asks me because I am a teacher, but I won't put you in the group unless you tell me who you are or what your handle is on DB. We welcome anyone who has an interest in KDrama or just wants in on what we're squealing about during OT.

I've heard several Korean indie bands, they don't go far from indie band that come from my country., imo. I can only give you the band or singer that have jazzy or R&B music because that my favorite :) , like: 10 cm (like Kender said), Winterplay, Humming Urban Stereo, Urban Zapaka, Epitone Project, Hot Potato, Napoleon Dynamite.
Oh and you should check these albums: Mint Paper Vol.3 - Life, and How to fall in love When Pastel Music Meets TVCF.
And I think classic ballad korean song is exceptional, love it. For it, I like: VOS, Monday Kiz, 4men.

i might be a more into ballads and the glossy pop thats more common in korea if i knew the language
because the focus is the singing and the only thing really separating it from "western" pop is the words
i dont mind not understanding the lyrics...but that means something else has to pull me in
the vocal delivery or texture, the instrumental arrangement, or the rhythm

Question(s) for the day:
Why do fans treat male celebrities like "food", "eye candy", "a piece of meat", etc?
Do you, as a fan, find any other characteristics you like in your favorite male celebrities besides physical appearance?

Okay... this is a question that probably needs answering, but it's going to take a while.
Men have been ogling female celebrities since... forever, I suppose. Since the black and whites came out? Since Betty Boop? Does anyone have a degree in History of Film?
First of all, there is some shallowness in having an idol. This was addressed rather well in You're Beautiful. We love our idols, truly, but we marry our friends. That's just the way it goes. We don't have idols because we feel that they are our soul mates, we have them because of who they present themselves to be. I don't think that I would ever want to meet my idol in real life because I'm scared that he'd be a complete and total bastard, and I like the image that he has presented himself as on my computer screen and in my IPOD.
On the flip side, we are very loyal to our idols. We will quickly get into Internet Wars in defense of our idol should anyone attack him or her. We will rabidly defend their character, intelligence, posture, dancing ability, family, big toe, favorite food, etc. on the off chance that someone may have looked at one of the aforementioned things even slightly strangely. This, to me, kind of goes beyond simple "appearance love," especially as there are times that I don't even defend my IRL husband the way I do my idol. ('Course, that might even have something to do with the fact he can defend himself...)
There are a thousand things I like about T.O.P that have nothing to do with his appearance, but I have to admit that what I like might only be a character, not who he really is.

Because sometime it is just what they are to me "eye candy" yeah shallow me :P
Other time I like celebrities because the voice (lee hong ki, jang geun seok (but how eye candy he is I can't deny), the acting (Hyun bin, & Kim Jae-wook (of course they are eye candy does count), or the personality (Heechul, he's so outspoken I like it (and cough pretty cough)). :D
And the percentage, I don't know, I'm bad in math

"Why do fans treat male celebrities like “food”, “eye candy”, “a piece of meat”, etc?"
it is male objectification. and it doesn't happen to men only. women had long been complaining about being objectified. this is a role reversal.
also, there is correlation between food and sexual attraction. just like chocolate is consumed to compensate for the feeling of love. hence leading to comments like "delicious," and "yummy" when referring to attractive men.
"Do you, as a fan, find any other characteristics you like in your favorite male celebrities besides physical appearance?"
of course. talent and brains. sometimes these compensate for good looks. not-so-physically-attractive people become "hot" in the eyes of admirers when they talk good sense and have humor/wits.
"If so, what percentage would you say you expound of said characteristics versus expounding on the physical appearance when commenting?"
it depends on what's on the table. if guy is presented as solely man-meat, it appeals more to the hormones and causes objectification. if guy manifests great acting chops, I swoon and rave over the talent and the brilliance. sometimes I overlook poor acting due to good looks. when I don't like what I hear but love what I see, the mute button becomes a friend. sometimes guy looks better when he's good at his craft.

This si an easy question for me. There are thousands upon thousands of idols and celebrities all over the world and all ove them are fairly good looking or better, but there has to be something that draws you to them besides the physical. to get you to want to get to know them better or at the very least support them in their artistic endeavors.
My main draw points for idols is voice! Changmin from 2am, Onew from Shinee, Sung Si Kyung(swoon)
My next drawing point is personality. The more of a nerdy smart ass the better, ie Changmin DBSK! MAX TIME!
My final draw point is character. All idols/actors come up with a on camera persona that they wish to share with the public. usually it has some of their own personal traits but often it is a hodge-podge developed by the company they work for and there own practiced faces in the mirror. If this character they present isn't too far off from the real thing or at least if they do a good job with making me think it isn't I tend to respond better to them. ie Se7en, Kim Rae Won
Daesung is my first and foremost choice among all kpop idols. He has all three things I am looking for and has never failed me once as a performer. And I have called him many things but never associated him with something I found in my grocery store. He is cute and lovable like all the rest I have mentioned. He wouldn't be an idol if he wasn't. But these guys attract me. And I realize that these are not always on the top of everyone else's lists either.

If you want a cerebral answer, I refer to my childhood girlfriend who now holds a PHD in sex therapy: she and I discussed this at a no-balls weekend (meaning, no men allowed). The cultural phenomenon of idol worship predates our modern age, but has seen an explosion given the current media tools at an idol's fingertips to carry their charisma to the masses.
Women fainted at the site of Xerxes, apparently, and Valentino, and Elvis Presley, and just keep it coming forward into 2011 ... idol worship is in the pleasure center of the brain, and is stimulated NOT by force, but is an instinctive reaction to chemistry, charisma, pheromones, and so much more. For some, it can be the voice, the eyes, the entire 'package'. The "IT" factor that major stars have, of either sex, can't be quantified to an exact science since we each, as individuals, respond with love to others without reason or logic: it's a reaction.
Love of an idol, then, is, in simplest terms, the reaction of an individual to that person's person, and when thousands, tens of thousand, and even millions have that same reaction to an idol, he/she becomes an idol.
Guess what else is in the pleasure center of the brain? Food. Both men and women use food terms to describe the opposite sex (and the same sex) in terms of love, worship, sexuality. Women have melons, creamy thighs, for instance, and are "eye candy", and men are "steak" and are "eye candy", as well.
Why do we "TREAT" them as food items? Some slavering part of the pleasure center in our brain must surely scream out, "I want to eat that", "I want to lick that", "I want to drink that", because the pleasures of idol worship and food are just a few synapses away.
Yes, I as a fan find other characteristics besides physical appearance that I like in my favorite male celebrities.
No relevant date has been kept in any scientific model that would stand up to rigorous study long enough for me to proffer you with an actual percentage of "said characteristics versus physical appearance".

Voice is huge as far as attractiveness...
Here's the thing about this question though. Obviously, people objectify celebrities. Hard not to, though--they're all attractive, and really, it's impossible for us to say we "know" any of them.
I can tell you elements that I love of the characters our boys play... but as far as them personally? Hard to focus on much beyond their looks, since that's pretty much all I know from them. :-/
Tough one--I hate being that shallow.
I will say, though, that I'm often attracted to celebrities (in Hollywood, too) that aren't really your conventional good looking, but they have a "quality." That quality is charisma! :D Some people just arrest your attention.

Wow! Such well thought out replies...
We know it can't be just looks because many beautiful model types display little or no personality when they speak.
In my experience, intelligence attracts me the most. I remember having a big crush on Stephen Colbert when he first came on. My daughter reminded me I never missed his show.
Strangely enough, it doesn't have to be genuine intelligence, if in a role, the character is super smart.
But if an actor plays someone stupid, I cannot be attracted to him anymore. I fall out of lust fast.
I also agree that the low voices really get to me:
Johnny Depp, Clive Owen, Daniel Craig, Rufus Sewel, Rain, Hyun Bin, Go Soo, Gong Yu, SSH, so far...
My Hand Towel fixation? I don't think it is all looks. He is charming and funny, too, but his beauty plays a very large part in why I (currently) love him.

Fascinating question, and I just had to add my two cents.
Why do fans treat male celebrities like “food”, “eye candy”, “a piece of meat”, etc?
I'm just going to say a big WORD to leonardswench's entire post # 26.6. I can't say it any better than that. It's the same food/pleasure response that makes you want to kiss and love on a sweet, fat baby when you see one. It's also why many people are comfort eaters. You can be filled with emotion or with food, but the pleasure you drive from each is similar.
Do you, as a fan, find any other characteristics you like in your favorite male celebrities besides physical appearance?
When it comes to idols, it's a mostly cerebral thing for me, despite my horn-dogging all over the site. You experience the world through five senses plus one: sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing and mind/heart. I don't have a relationship with idols, so three senses are automatically excluded: smell, touch and taste. That leaves great weight on:-
- sight (human beings are attracted to beauty),
- sound (like many other OTers, a deep male voice is enough to make me implode on the spot), and
- mind/heart.
In order for me to like a person I don't even know, you've got to hit me with at least three of those, assuming that mind and heart are separate. So if you're incredibly intelligent (mind), and you make me laugh (mind/heart), and you look decent (sight), then I'm yours. I love Stephen Colbert too. If you sound amazing (Daniel Craig, yes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, god yes!), and look good, and you're intelligent, that's good enough for me. If your looks are average, but your voice is sexeh, and you make me think and feel (Jack Hitt)? That works too. It can be the persona, or it can be the persona, but at long as my senses are getting hit, I'm A-OK.
If so, what percentage would you say you expound of said characteristics versus expounding on the physical appearance when commenting?
Due to laziness, I'll make it an even 25% for sight, sound, mind & heart. After all, I don't know actually know these people.

Aw, Mud, you're new here aren't you? There are many OT'ers on here who are married and/or have children, and that does not stop them from claiming all sorts of guys as their hubbies or baby-daddies. Mr. Lahlita is wonderful and I love him so much that sometimes I can't breathe...and yet if Stephen Colbert showed up at my door, my hubby and Stephen's wife and kids would find themselves out on the street! Priorities, you know? Just sayin'.

Hi Lahlita! But I totally get the whole business of claiming and eloping with your favourite celebrities, all in a day's work as a fangirl right?
As for the poll between the 2 archnemesis.... my vote goes to Colbert, hands down. Rain is admirable, but Colbert is on this entirely separate level. He's like an A+++ lister. I'm even going to venture and say it's not going to be a fair fight between the two... unless, of course, it's a dance-off or the same netizens who voted for Rain as Time's most influential get word of this poll.

@mud and @MJP
We can do a quick poll on OT 175, keeping it real quiet.
Then, we can report the poll results to the Colbert Nation in %. (That way it doesn't matter if only 15 people respond.)
But what do we ask? Stephen Colbert or Rain?
Hottest? Rather get a piggy back from? Rather throw up on? Drink soju with? Who deserves the Noble Peace Prize more?
Should we count votes from people like Don't Call me Mr. Hand Towel, or the other obvious non-handles?

Personally I look for personality more than looks. (Now I know nothing about Korean idols so you'll have to excuse me as I use my favorite Japanese ones ^_^)
I look for intelligence, genuine kindness, and nerdiness. For example, my favorite Japanese idols are younger Sakurai Sho, Kato Shigeaki, and Ikuta Toma. Why?
Because when Sho was younger (he doesn't do this much anymore though :/ ) there was this huge gap in his personality where he was so smart and so put together but sometimes just so clueless and lacking common sense (and the ability to do sports ^_^)
For Shige, no one pays much attention to him but he's not afraid to be himself which is both smart "graduated from college with a law degree" Shige to "getting teased by the other NEWS members" Shige, which is endearing to me. (it also helps that he's got a serious bromance going on with Koyama but that's another issue ^_^)
For Toma it's his acting. He's such a great actor and he's able to be a silly joke-making idol and switch being a serious put together actor and I love that!

Idols are just way so addicting... Its a fangirl's crack. They are an assault to your senses. They are so great to look at that you can keep looking forever. Their voice sounds great too. Just hearing micky yoochoon's last line in chattaja kumapta, naegaeto wachooso ( i dont know if i spelled the wprds right) just makes my knees weak and i giggle. You watched them on kdramas and they made you believe in whatever. Almost forgot. I watched Kokuhaku (Confessions) earlier this week. I was afraid that it would be one of those boring award movies but it was sick awesome.
It was intense. It was awesome sauce. It's been so long since I've seen a movie with child actors that are on par with their veteran counterparts. I can't say that the kids out-shined the lead actress because let's face it, she was at the top of her game. But they were committed and it didn't feel like I was watching kids saying awkward lines to a camera.
Highly recommended. Sad, frustrating, innocent and so very ugly.

So i'm not sure if this has done before in the land of korean dramas but I had this weird dream that I somehow went back in time and lived in the sageuk (historical) era and it was so weird.
So this morning I just had this random thought of what if someone came up with the idea or story of a romantic comedy drama of some sorts of someone going back in time to that historical period (or someone from that time period living in the present.) or maybe im just rambling lol. I don't think they should review MAX TIME if they don't want to. Any publicity is good publicity but honestly if they aren't that into this show it makes no sense for them to spend hours and I mean hours reviewing it.
I also don't want them to feel like they have to compromise how they truly feel about a show so they don't bruise the egos of fans that worship idols. Sometimes I think they tone things down from what they really feel so the site doesn't become a war room of fangirls. Which is unfortunate since I respect their opinions and find their writing is funnest and best when they had more freedom to speak their minds without the repercussions of people who can not cope with a bloggers opinion.

I still like My Princess, but I don't love it. It's not cracktastic enough for me to watch it immediately after it airs, but I do get around to it by the end of the week and enjoy it. Seol and Haeyoung's cuteness and Seol's flashes of spirit are the only things keeping the story up now. Yoon-ju is a caricature. The Professor seemed sidelined lately.
And I sort of want to see Seol back in the driver's seat in the Seol x Haeyoung relationship like during the early episodes (when she was giving him advice on stuff and etc). Haeyoung, the protective bodyguard diplomat, isn't as cute as Haeyoung, the clueless about women and Seol's co-conspirator.

Totally engrossed in Jade Palace Lockheart (goes under Palace at viki) at the moment. It started out rather harmlessly like "nice to watch" went to "amusing" and on to "just another episode". Then it came to "what there are just 7 eps fully subbed at the moment" and went on to "I am now totally watching all eps RAW - may I mention some even repeatedly - on You Tube". The similarities to Meteor Garden/Hana Yori Dango are so funny and all that Palace Intrigue adds some new plane to the storyline.

Oh. I was going to watch this. But then other things came up and didn't really get to it. I am saddened that one of my favorite actors YET AGAIN decides to randomly just appear for a drama for like 10 minutes as a guest star (Yan Kuan, that's who he is) - I mean, seriously, why isn't this guy landing any of the big roles because he's got the looks AND the great acting chops. Makes me frustrated. Yeah, he guested in this... anyways, I digress.......
Yes, I heard that this one has like a ton of similarities with HYD. Even from the getgo, from the first episode, I saw people commenting stuff like, Oh, looks like another HYD rip-off except with the time travel and palace intrigue. I'm not adverse to this, plus I really like the actress... it's the male actors I'm not so sure about. I think part of it is just because I personally would have liked other people to play the part. BUT. We'll see, when I finally get around to it.

Even though it's not even like I could connect with the female characters, because there's no way I am even close to a situation like theirs, where they are getting old and facing a dilemma of love and marriage (I'm only turning 20 this year, so...)....... Is there a reason for this? Hmm.

I've been watching Prosecutor Princess 'again' too (-the 1st time I didn't get into it and skipped some episodes).
At the moment it's sidelined though because of Life Special Investigation Team.

Prosecutor Princess is a good one!
I think can relate to how you feel at age 20. I know I felt the same way you described above. I was in a new state, at a new job, with no friends.
Here is what I did:
Joined different people groups doing various events.
Traveled small, same day trips.
Volunteered helping those in need.
Learned to play sports.
However, being in school is completely different, study time is required. But who knows, maybe this will give you some ideas?

Best. Twitter. Birthday. Party. Ever.
I get a buzz just from thinking that he read my tweet and responded to it (well, mine and dozens others) so I imagine you're still floating. What a lovely young man! Like I could love Park Kyu more. I think it was the only tweet IJH sent too, on a Saturday morning. Possibly, hungover. Then flooded with beseeching tweets. Hee Hee.

Was it a saturday morning then when he tweeted? Because it was friday night for me around 7pm. Either way.. that night was MAGICAL. Everybody else, not just me, was spazzing from his awesomeness.

so I have Changmin fever to the MAX hahaha... he's so cute^^ and then he goes and calls out an I LOVE YOU KYUHYUN-AH!! (as in Super Junior's Maknae Kyuhyun) on shimshimtapa, and it was HILARIOUSLY AWESOME :)
Yeah Paradise Ranch is pretty cute, a little frustrating because the plot still seems to go round and round and never get anywhere but I'm looking forward to the next episode^^
and OMG I watched ROCK! ROCK! ROCK! and it rocked my socks off, pun intended, Noh Min Woo was pretty awesome but the story, omg I cried when Jaegi died >_< and I felt so bad for Tae Won during his whole depression and self-doubting era, and omg I just want to go and hug the real tae won... I remember seeing him in all these variety shows and he's always been this incredibly mysterious presence and now I got a glimpse into his life and i was TT___TT for him...
oooh and I watched Petty Romance/ a.k.a Slightly Risque Romance and Mr. Voice was really cute, everything was cute, nothing earth shattering but I could live off the cute^_^

Just finished watching My Princess Episode 12. There's a question nagging in my mind after they mentioned about Lee Seol's Dad and Uncle/Ajusshi. The Uncle could be Hae-young's Dad, and he is helping them to hide because once they are caught by the President they will die, but not through his hands but another person. What are the odds that they are best of friends and the one manipulating everything to his advantage is Secretary Oh? He keeps on dropping tidbits to hae-young and Yoon-jo that are bad and usually used against Lee-seol and the monarchy. Is he really protecting HY's grandfather or covering everything so that he wouldn't know anything. for all we know, Sec. Oh is the one who banned HY's Dad from returning to Korea... just sayin'

Ok guys. First I want to say I'm so happy for my buddy xObiO7 (she's actually a Jedi Knight in her other life) cos Egypt is finally free from Mubarak. Every time I see images of Egypt's unrest and the people massing in the streets these past few weeks, my heart feels very heavy for her and her dad and family. So I'm so so happy Mubarak stepped down.....FINALLY.
Now back to my fav topic...MP. Just curious as to how many kisses you think they'll give us? I say, just one more. So that'd make it 2 kisses. I notice for most Kor dramas, the norm is a minimum of 2 kisses. Tamra had 1. Jewel in the Palace had none. It made up for that with copious hugs. The hugs were lovely....
Which drama had the most kisses? PK? I counted about 6 kisses. I say about cos the last kiss was filmed in total darkness in the car and shot from BEHIND. This excludes the kisses in the YT edition. For a kor drama, it was pretty racy, eh? No wonder many die-hard KHJ fans were so mad. They didn't want him to kiss girls, they wanted him to just sing and act.
Goong had a few kisses but not that many....the last kiss was shot from far away China so all we could see was shadowy figures in a blurry embrace. But it's fused in my memory for that hot breathy, tonguey kiss in his room.
Rain's kisses in A Love to Kill were also hot and tonguey, and quite revolting actually: the first kiss he forced on her, the second kiss he administered after she threw out....yeah, disgusting right: kissing a girl whose mouth stinks from vomit and with drool and vomit stains smeared around her lips....BLEAH. He sorta used his tongue to clean the insides of her mouth too. You could see the shape of his tongue doing a dentist-sweep all around from outside. Gross. So that kiss has been seared on my memory cells as the most disgusting bleah-inducing kiss ever.
My fav kisses....PSH's in PP; he's a great kisser, the guy in Will it Snow for Xmas....lovely, he had tears in his eyes, the kiss by the tortoises in Who Are You (loved that show btw): the kiss was shy yet possessive; he did it with his hands stuffed in his pocket, and the kiss in the rain in PK cos it was young and pure and gentle.

Ewww... your description of Dentist Rain is just.... ewww. The man's a professional, gotta respect that. Though I'm sure it's fake vomit, but still the imagery of using his tongue to clean up.... oh man.

Hello.Since this is an OT will confess to being a Yongseo fan and since it's their 1st yr anniversary and all felt like spazzing.
How cute is it that the international fans translated Yonghwa's Banmal song into so many languages? Just a few I liked.

Time travel drama? Love the idea you have, and comedy dramas always make me cry more.
Will they be parted by time forever?
Was she murdered in the past?
Can he save her? Can the past be changed?
Bring on the the right music and rip my heart out with it too. Am so there.
Write it and make them make it for us.
