Jo Seung-woo, Daniel Choi cast in Gu Hye-sun film

Gu Hye-sun has scored another big-name actor in her next directorial feature: Jo Seung-woo (Tazza, Sword With No Name, pictured above) has signed on to Peach Tree, which has already secured Nam Sang-mi (Life Is Beautiful).

This is something of a coup (kind of?), as Jo has been serving in the military for the past two years and his comeback project has been rather anticipated. He has already returned to acting life via theater, but this will be his first screen project back.

Furthermore, Peach Tree has also secured Daniel Choi (High Kick Through the Roof) and Lee Jun-hyuk (I Am Legend), who have agreed to appear out of friendship to Gu. Daniel Choi, you may recall, is her co-star from her upcoming drama The Musical, which is trying to find a slot on a broadcast schedule for the upcoming year. I can see where being a well-known actor can be a boon in casting one’s directorial project, as you can secure bigger names than you might otherwise. For a rookie director, this is a pretty solid cast, in particular with regards to Jo, who is almost exclusively a movie star (though he does perform in stage musicals).

Peach Tree is described as a “fairy-tale-like fantasy” and aims to begin shooting this spring. Perhaps it’ll do better than her previous (and debut) feature, Magic. One thing in her favor is that Gu’s directorial Achilles heel appears to be overambitiousness/ pretentiousness (rather than, say, a lack of talent or banality of vision), which is something that added experience can go a long way toward alleviating.

He looks better w/ longer hair - like w/ his 70s hairstyle in "GoGo 70s" w/ Shin Min ah.

I am looking forward to this movie. I like fantasy. The cast must have confidence in GHS as a director to put their names forward.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Everytime I see her name on a project i cringe now. BOF has tramatized me for life because of her chatacter.

Well, she's directing instead of acting...?

BOF was a really bad move on her part. Prior to that, most people either had a good or neutral opinion of her and her acting. So sad that so many people learned of her through BOF and her horrific interpretation of the main character.

(stretching it but....maybe she'll be like Ben Affleck. Better behind the camera than in front?)

Actually I beg to differ. Her comiclike protrayal of Jandi character as written was good.It kind of bounced off the F4,and made them look good. She gained a lot of fans who thought the same.Note her popularity in the rest of Asia and the rest of the world.

I strongly agree with you, Birdie. Through BOF, Goo Hye Sun gained immense popularity outside South Korea. Her role was that of annoying, simple-minded high school girl. If a lot of people dislike because of her "Jandi" character, then, it only proved how effective her acting was, right? For me, Goo Hye Sun did a very good job in BOF!

Really? So just avoid reading anything that concerns about her then. But am just wondering, why are you posting your comment here if you think you're traumatized by her ? It only means that you're following her. Try to do deep soul-searching... maybe you'll realize that you like her. lol!

Ah, I remember the days when I was young and naive, before I saw Jo Seung Woo in anything, when I wasn't impressed with him. Then I saw him act - and DAMN can that guy act. Love him to death. Even enough to watch a Gu Hye Sun directed film.

OMG this is so exciting! I've been waiting for a Cho Seung-woo movie project and it finally came true! I don't really know the rest of the cast, besides Choi Daniel. He's a cool actor, an adorable one actually (based on my watching of Cyrano Agency). I never watched Magic and I there's really no more information of Peach Tree, but I'll be looking forward otherwise. Yay awesomes!

Well I hope they didn't agree to act in it just out of sheer friendship. I'll place my faith in them that they saw some potential in the script and her direction.

I have a sudden unavoidable urge to watch The Classic... and possibly several other Jo Seung Woo movies. He was my first ever Korean celebrity crush, and will always have a place in my heart. Regardless of who is directing him!

Eh... Not be feelin' the film, but have heard Jo Seung-woo is a strong possibility as Kang Ji-hwan's replacement in Faith!

YES!!!!!!!!!!

I found his character endearing and impressionable in Classic and if it goes through I'm really, really excited for Faith!

Nothing at all against Kang Ji-hwan, I'm sure he's a great actor but I generally connect better with a more earthier male lead (i.e. Jung Kyung-ho) or a fiery/smouldery male lead (i.e. Park Sang-min!! So Ji-sub, Kim Soo-hyun). JSW I find fits the former category nicely.

Once more, lots of praises for the beautiful and talented Go Hye Sun for her next directorial project.

Even though I would like to see more of her as an actress I will still appreciate, rally and support her in everything that she does. She follows her dreams and does everything that she wants to do while she is young.

Go for it Ms Gu Hye Sun! Boys Over Flowers will not be a huge success if they picked a different actress to play the part of Jandi. No one could have done it better than you! Deep in your heart and in the heart of your many many fans, YOU are an exceptional person, and we will support you all the way!!!

Wishing you success in the movie "Peach Tree".

Lovingly,

Ladybug Grandma
