Cast fills out for MBC’s Royal Family

A few more actresses have been added to MBC’s Royal Family, the drama about the love story between a chaebol woman and the younger man she supports on his rise to becoming a prosecutor, who then returns the favor and supports her. Those two roles have been filled by Yeom Jung-ah (Working Mom) and Ji Sung (Kim Suro), respectively, and now Cha Ye-ryun joins them as another lead.
Cha plays a third-generation chaebol, which means that she’s the granddaughter to the head of JK Group; she’s also described as a “dark horse,” one who isn’t satisfied merely with the advantages that have been handed to her. She’s got a business mind, but never say a careerwoman can’t be a fashionista, because her wardrobe promises to be “upscale and colorful” in every episode.
Frankly Cha Ye-ryun bores me to tears, despite the fact that I enter every drama wanting to like her — A Star’s Lover, Invincible Lee Pyeong-gang, and Dr. Champ, for example. But she’s just so very anemic, her deliveries passive and wilting. Blerhhh.
In addition, actress Lee Chae-young (Comrades, pictured below) takes up a role as a cold urban woman with an intellectual bent. *Pffft* That’ll be interesting, since Lee Chae-young is currently more of a pin-up girl than anything, and her image is about as far from a brainy type as there ever was. But I suppose that’s why they call it acting.
The “royal” in Royal Family isn’t literal, but a metaphorical reference to chaebols being like royalty in modern Korean. Described as a drama centering around “ambition, betrayal, truth and love” doesn’t really tell us much about the story, so I’m filling in the blanks a bit when I suppose that it’ll be a straight drama with some melo twists and probably lots of angst.
Other cast members include Lee Da-hee of the ill-fated Birdie Buddy, Ki Tae-young from Creating Destiny, and 16-year-old idol boy Dongho of pop group U-Kiss. Veterans include the ubiquitous Ahn Nae-sang (Sungkyunkwan Scandal) and Jeon No-min (Queen Seon-deok). Royal Family follows My Princess and premieres on March 2. Meh.

I agree about Cha Ye-ryun. She has no spark! Lacks that screen presence that makes successful actresses.
I'm surprised she was given the lead. I always thought that she was merely 2nd lead material.

Cha Ye-ryun is the lead? Seriously, i don't like her performance even as the 2nd lead. She really bring the whole drama down already lol.
I'm not gonna watch it, if yes, then it's because of Jisung.

Off topic since I read above "ill-fated Birdie Buddy", I wish that one aired instead of Paradise Ranch. I love UEE and I can't stand Changmin (no offense to TVXQ fans).

I swear that whenever I see her, I keep saying that she needs more weight that way we can all see her. Girl eat some food, please, mi a beg you!!!
The reason why I could not watch Dr. Champ was in some ways because of her she just drains the energy of the drama. I refused to be dehydrated because of her.

Ahn Nae Sang?!.... urghhhhhhh.... now I may have to watch this despite my lack of interest so I can catch a glimpse of my Ahjussi crush...Lee Chae Young wasnt too bad in the sort mobile drama with Han Hyo Joo and Kim Dong Wook...if anything I worry abt CYR

Hmmm, but from the description, Cha Yeryun's character seems vastly different from her previous ones. Like you, I tend to sink a little whenever I hear her being cast in a drama I actually anticipate (Dr.Champ, and true, I hated her there), but this time, her tole seems different. So let's see if she can bring anything to the table.

I'm not quite that apprehensive about Lee Chae-Young. After seeing her in Comrades, where she was arresting and grubby and tough as nails as a Marine, I feel like she has some range (though you wouldn't know it from that picture).
But I agree: Cha Ye-ryun, *snooze*.

I really hope we get something out of her (Cha) because so far, she's got to be the most boring and uninspiring actress - ever! I'm surprised shes still getting cast .. but lets hope for the best!

I think Cha Ye Ryun really needs to play a different type of character. Give her a spunky character to play! I liked her in Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do with Jang Geun Seok, but she has been blah every since.

hey, why does everybody criticized her? i like her,she's pretty.can't blame her for being very anemic,that's her complexion..i didn't put too much attention on her acting, but i think she was good in do re mi fa so la ti do and 'voice'

What can I say? Boring face, boring acting. Some people aren't gorgeous but they feel as if they are. She sadly, looks pretty but feels boring.

passive? oh i never watched dr. champ. i liked her in do re mi fa so la ti do (took me ages to type out) but i guess it's different for dramas.
might watch the pilot....but it's following my princess (despite it going down i'm a super lover) so it might bring out the constrast...i'll see about that :)

This drama bores me to tears. Every time I turn it on, I end up waking up half an hour after it's ended. Ji Sung has made some bad decisions in choosing roles. Kim Suro sucked as well.
