Queen of Reversals surpasses Athena, another extension?
by girlfriday
The battle of the Monday-Tuesday dramas is heating up, as MBC’s Queen of Reversals noses ahead in the ratings. Monday’s broadcast pulled in 15.7% (AGB Nielson), beating SBS’s Athena: Goddess of War for the first time. Athena began its run with explosive 22.8% ratings, but has steadily declined over the last five weeks, landing at 15.2% on Monday.
The growing ratings might be a factor in MBC’s decision to offer Queen yet ANOTHER extension. It’s just by one episode, due to a scheduled preemption on January 31 for the 2011 Asia Cup. Because most Monday-Tuesday dramas end on a Tuesday, MBC wants the show to go out with an additional episode, bringing the total count to 33. The production has yet to agree, mostly due to the fact that the entire cast and staff have already been exhausting themselves with the current extension, although I’m not sure what one episode either way will do. If the drama decides against the offer, MBC plans to air the last two episodes on a Tuesday night, one week earlier. Perhaps the extension is yet another move to give The Duo an extra week before premiering. Couldn’t hurt.
As far as the current ratings battle, they seem to be leveling out, which is about where they fare with me on the to-watch scale: that is, some Mondays I start with Athena, and others I start with Queen. Strangely, I like them equally too, but for wholly different reasons, as they inhabit two completely different ends of the drama spectrum. I like the dark spy world of Athena peppered with funny antics, and well, Queen is boring one minute, and then coffee laced with crack the next minute.
It’s taken the extended episodes (twelve more added to the original twenty) to flesh out Park Shi-hoo‘s character, and now he’s totally taking over in leading man territory. It’s just enough to take me from skeptical, to hopeful….to downright delusional. I don’t think I’m alone, though, as the drama is pushing the Kim Tae-hee/Gu Yong-shik pairing in a way that it wasn’t before the extension. All the romantic moments are reserved for them, which is either a really good sign (*crosses fingers, throws salt, does chant*) or a totally evil move to fake me out. I’m preparing an effigy in case it’s the latter.

Queen of Reversals as a drama is somewhat confusing. Since I'm watching it on Korean TV, it gets the more confusing.
Who does the lead actress like exactly. She's married right? So why is she having moments with the boss?
Hmmm...i'm not really into heavy dramas anyway. Now that Secret Garden has ended, I'll just go for My Princess.

Oh and I forgot to add, I started watching FH and it's good. I was hesitant because it's such a long drama (54 episodes,I think),but so far, it's worth it. I can't get enough of PSH!

I started this drama due to the main actress, KIM NAM JOO. I had always liked her since MODEL. I disagreed with those who called her unattractive and OLD just because she is OLDER. :D Come one, everyone ages. Who doesn't. Just you wait, youngsters!! Your time will come, time is already ticking. :DLOL
Anyway, I didn't find the male leads attractive to me (from what I read, many disagreed :D), but I must say their character portraying impressed me lots, and brought me into the story/ drama, that made them attractive to me.
I was slightly disappointed when they got married so fast and then the kid was there, I was thinking, ahh will the second lead get any chance at all!? :D
Anyway, I didn't like the hubby's character, he seemed wishy washy type, and the reason he married her was like ?? ... I guess he does like her or else he wouldn't do it just for the money alone.
The second male, was arrogant and cocky at first. But their arguments was funny and well plot out.
I read many didn't like the female lead's character, unless, it was only said due to the beginning eps, but as you see, her character isn't all harsh and hard, she have softer sides and kinder sides, just that people who doesn't know her personally, and she keeps up her professional front as a career woman. It's true her characters have her faults, but she have stronger and positive sides.
The second male really charms his ways into my heart, his passionate feelings /love for her really make me very excited for this drama. LOL.
I also enjoys the more details on the other characters, I like the special team. Hate the baddies, I hope the older career lady and the oldest bro will get their punishments in the end!! It's obvious they are lovers, what the hell, they can do it, and others cannot date?!
I am feeling frustrated, now at ep 29, whereas, it's obvious they (female lead and supposed second male lead) are into each other, "in love", but the obstacles and meddling they are getting will perhaps ruined it all, before they can truly started a real dating relationship. I can see the ex-hubby is a much better person, it's true he could shines more with the help of the second female, so in that sense, he and KNJ's character doesn't suits each other in that way. But I don't like it when he leads the second female lead on, by asking her to start afresh even though he still feel for his wife and wanted to get back with the wife, due to she refused him and now he asked the ex-gf!?! That was badly done.
Now, I don't even feel the ex-hubby deserved the second female lead (ex-gf).
God, I really hope she doesn't go with the ex-hubby to aboard, because she wants to protect the second male and the team members!
The special team and second male lead and female lead should make a company themselves and fight off the baddies! But only two eps left! LOL
I find myself getting very worked up watching this drama, way more than the few others I saw recently (Mary Out All Night, Secret Garden, My Princess).

well, the second male lead, Yong Shik, is not the supposedly typical rich guy, he's fr the birth of a external affair (mistress?) and the mother gave him up to the father. And growing up in a family with basically no love and hate fr his step-siblings and step-mom (who pretended to dote on him infront of the father), at least, he still have his father's love. He is sorta "broken". I think that's why a typical spoiled rich girl is not for him. Unless the rich girl have characters and is strong and probably not spoiled rotten. But I guess he didn't meet anyone like that in this drama. LOL.
Yeah, I was confused about Tae-Hee being the daughter of a rich man ?? Was the father rich but business failed??
Anyway, at first, I really dislike the second female lead and first male lead. But they turned out better in the later eps.
Still hate the older career bitch and the oldest brother! Those two needs to be punished!
Despite the ex-hubby didn't really cheated on her with the ex-gf after he got together with Tae-Hee, but he didn't tell her the whole truth. I think it affected Tae-Hee more as they all worked together, and the ex-gf is like enemy to her. And he should have told her the whole thing when she asked him, is there more to be told, when she said those words, I sorta expected a change of direction, and hope they will divorce. She did give him a chance and he messed up. Her character is like that, straight forward to a point.

Maybe I am the only one in this world but is not funny Queen of reversals when people who are married with a child. And the chief that is a young boy stay at the end with the married girl . I know when people dont like each other is better to ge divorced, but making a romantic or humorous drama about that is simply not okay. I got dissapointed because Korean dramas were good , but this looks like Mexican drama it sucks the end.
The girl says I am happy at the end , but It will probably meet another guy and just do the same thing.
I Never want to trust in a korean drama after seeing this.
