Lee Min-jung goes all natural for High Cut
by girlfriday
Actress Lee Min-jung (Cyrano Dating Agency, Smile) poses for a feature in High Cut that shows off her natural beauty. I love the idea of stripping down all the makeup of a normal photo shoot, and maybe I’m just partial to this look, but I love the effect: young, intriguing ingenue. The makeup-that-looks-like-no-makeup is actually quite hard to achieve, and overall it makes her look incredibly young and fresh-faced. I also enjoy the lego hat. It’s sort of statue of liberty, the kindergarten version.
Lee Min-jung is gearing up for her drama comeback in SBS’s Midas, about the wheeling and dealing behind the scenes of the stock market. Sounds like a nice change-up for her in a lead dramatic role, although I can’t say that I wouldn’t just rather have her do another rom-com. Selfish, I know. Midas follows Athena, and premieres in February.

i think so too. If you look at the first pic you can even see the hint of pink color of her natural lips (inner). they should have left it alone, then she would really look as if there's no make-up make-up.

My question is if lips are pale like that to start with. I think they should have just thrown some chapstick on her and that would have been fine. Color in the lips is better than the dehydrated look that Sgcrazed mentioned. X/
I do like the look from the last picture, although Virgin at The Altar for sacrifice is the nagging thought I'm trying to ignore right now. XD

I also like the fact that its all natural, considering the obsession with beauty, i just wish they didn't make her look so sad like she was dying from a terminal disease, rather then going with out make up and her hair did.

Oy with the goody gumdrops....I so agree! Penci-think or super-arched and darly filled eyebrows are caricature-ish and stripper-ish....
Ugh...I also don't like thos SUPER long boots that go to the knee...they look so repulsive and dirty hooker! I don't care how many times SNSD wears them...I just get sour-faced when I see those kind of boots!
I like natural brows meaning how one's grow naturally whether they're bushy, sparse or barely visible because it's effortless! She looks fresh, innocent and pure. I do agree that some regular lipbalm would have been better off than the washed out lips...BUT surprisingly I like the whole look.

Masterbruce,
Siam hit upon a very important point, in regards to the viewership of this drama blog. Many of the viewers, here, do not speak or write English as their primary language. I do, and am very impressed with how well our non-English viewers express themselves with the English language.
Tiff's minor grammatical error wasn't offensive at all, but your rudeness certainly was.
Since you brought up the subject of proper grammar-
While Tiff may have committed one minor error, your rude comment and following correction contained no less than three errors in grammar and punctuation. You failed to capitalize the first letter of the first word in your sentence. You failed to use a comma before the quoted material. Lastly, you failed to put the exclamation mark at the end of the quoted material in your correction(which, by the way, should come before the closing quotation mark).
Lee Min-jung looks pretty in these photos, but she would have looked much prettier if she could have smiled in them.

The eyebrows! I've been told that the single-eyebrow (not so much unibrow as the eyebrows forming a straight rather than arched line across the brow) has been an ongoing style in Korea. I think Lee Dahae rocks the look. Kim Tae Hee too. Any recommendations for what sort of face shape best suits it? Am wondering how best to achieve the look ...

Her expressions are very dead. You could be lively and "natural". Too bad. She usually has a vitality about her which suit rom-com.
Anyone watched Cyrano Dating Agency? I watched it online the other day. I was disappointed with her performance. After she won all those acting awards for her role there, I expected an amazing performance from her. She was ok, but I didn't think she shone there. What do the rest of you think?

You'll find that a lot of female celebrities don't know how to pose/construct their face properly in photos when they don't have heavy makeup on. The makeup actually does a LOT for your face and facial expressions, depending on how you put it on and what kind of style you're going for. That 'dead' expression she's doing would look fine with the right amount of makeup - zoned out and vacant but purposefully done. Without it, it just looks kinda stoned. But either way I still think she is gorgeous.
And to the people who are critisising her un-plucked eyebrow ... how exactly do you define natural? Girls are born with unplucked eyebrows. We are not liable in any way to pluck them for other people's viewing pleasures, and that includes other females as well.

Prior to the expressionless matter, here's a more detailed translation of the korean articles by hancinema.net
Quote:
Lee Min-jeong, shows off perfect beauty with an eccentric feeling with 'bare face'
"Lee Min-jeong, who took all the rookie movie awards in 2010, showed off beauty with no room to spare in the 'High Cut' spread, 'She was pretty'.
In this photoshoot, she wore no make up showing off her 'honey skin' and transformed after long time to a frizzy haired proud goddess.
She created not a feminine and lovely style but an eccentric look with her absentminded but chic and sexy look.
She wore Michael Kors' black tube dress, Christian Dior's white trench coat, Reem Acra's wedding dress and ten or so other attires, stylishly showing off her fashionable tastes.
Bori the photographer says, "Her near perfect beauty and her detailed acting created this highly perfect masterpiece".
Currently Lee Min-jeong has been cast in the drama "Midas" and is busy shooting. She is expected to be on the screens at the end of February.
Lee Min-jeong's pictorial can be seen on the fourth week of January in the 45th issue of "High Cut"."
The title to me is a lil missleading-ing thing, coz i do believe that she wasnt exactly bare-faced, its called nude make-up which often use in drama to make people look sick,.
But as for Lee MinJung, make-up or not she still look pretty, or even prettier in the latter state =)

I...don't feel anything from these photos. Pretty and I mean pretty girl with charisma and talent which is great in k-entertainment world. However I just don't like this magazine spread, her eyes are dead and she has the same expression in every shot. LMJ can definitely do better.
Sometimes I wonder what the publishers or directors of these photo shoots think when looking at female k-celebs. Sometimes I'm in awe and other times I'm uninspired.

I love, love Lee Min-jung. And I think she looks beautiful, always.
High Cut is known for strange photo-shoots, I have no idea why you guys are criticizing her make-up. It's a concept. She's supposed to look like that.
And what's with the criticizing of her eyebrows?! I think they're perfect. She doesn't need to pluck her eyebrows because there's absolutely nothing wrong with them.

I think the main criticism here is whether the concept of the shoot worked for everyone. Personally, I get what the director was going for but it just doesn't resonate with me. The lighting is great, I get the concept etc but it just comes off a little bit flat (IMHO).
I'm pretty sure everyone can agree that Lee Min Jung is one gorgeous lady :) A criticism of the shoot is not equal to a criticism of her personally.
Although yeah I don't really get what the fuss is about with regards to her eyebrows lol xD

its like picture taken in one's house without proper lighting...

My take is, some of these creative directors like these pale unconventional look.
yes I would have prefer her with some lipstick. She kinda of look dehydrated.
However this is the kind of shots that may last through time. If you look at it 10 years later, it will still look fresh.
