Han Ga-in’s first CF with husband
by girlfriday
I’ve never seen anyone dressed so well to do laundry, but hey, I suppose a couple in their last wearable clothes isn’t really going to sell high-end washing machines. Although, now that I think about it, beautiful couple down to nothing but their last socks and underwear? That might actually make me sit through a commercial.
Ahem. Anyway, actress Han Ga-in (Bad Guy, grumble grumble) poses for her first CF with husband Yeon Jung-hoon (East of Eden, also grumble grumble). Heh, at least they both starred in dramas of equally epic badness. No. I take that back. Bad Guy trumps East of Eden. Bad Guy trumps everything in the badness category.
The couple married in 2005, and has hit a few waves, recently fighting back some rumors of divorce. Perhaps the CF was undertaken to counter the rumors and show the couple in domestic bliss? Oh, the wonders of a good modeling campaign.

lol.. you guys are funny with bad guy and CS... i detached myself from both halfway through the drama. i just watched them for the sake of finishing them really.
anyways, i wished we could see more of this couple together... honestly, i did not recognize YJH in the first pic, and wouldn't have in any of the other pics (except maybe for the last) had you not told me it was him... he kinda reminded me of a older version of danny ahn. poor guy, han ga in is the ideal type of so many celebrities but i think he's equally charming.

Oh... pretty unrelated but anyway I'm so confused about all the "Cinderella's Sister=bad" comments, especially coming from the girl who's always blogging my exact thoughts about kdramas. Seriously?! When I left off at episode 10 to go out of town it had had a few lapses in script but was still qualifying as a "good" drama. I thought, judging from all the disappointed reactions it's gained that I too would be disappointed when I resumed. But no. Still seems pretty awesome! Maybe it royally screws up in the last few episodes? I guess I'll see when I finish it, but it couldn't possibly be deserving of all the hate.

It took an enormously precipitous dive, thereby killing any previous affection for it. I'd be very curious to see your reaction after finishing the second half of the drama. If you manage to get through it with your blood pressure intact, that is.

i'm also on the fence with cinderella's sister being uber bad...because though i get tired of the love-hate relationship between the sisters, i will still count cs as just a disappointment...hehe...though i haven't finish it (i'm still on ep 18) because i got busy during the finale week and then the 2nd half of the year comes with some strings of good dramas...or maybe its just my divine adoration of the first four episode where i crowned it "the best first four episode i've seen in a kdrama, or ever" and my eternal love for moon geun young that prevented me in seeing the true quality of it...i'm planning to finish it this week, because its my semestral break (yay me!!!)...maybe it really screwed itself during the finale week...(i stopped myself from reading your recap until i watched beforehand)

Bad Guy is still the 5th most watched on viikii, watch it & see for yourself after all everyone have different preferences/tastes. Personally to me Bad Guy is worth watching, it’s an intense realistic story about of desire, humiliation, hatred, pain & despair. If ones watching the drama thinking that is a thriller revenge story than they’re on the wrong track. Bad guy is not a story about revenge nor romance.

I liked Bad Guy, but the show is a melodrama to its core and I LOVE melodramas to my core. A lot of people hated the ending, but I actually liked how they resolved the story. It's, at least, different, if a bit hastily put together.

I feel bad for actors who end up trapped in awful dramas. Often, through no fault of their own, a weak director, a dried-out writer, or co-stars who can't act, make a perfectly decent actor look bad.
I hope that this couple will have a chance to make it or break it based on their acting abilities.

I don't understand why you said that bad guy trumps everything in the badness category. I've watched it, and I think it has some very good acting in it by KNG and OYS. The visual is beautiful and blended so wonderfully with the equally beautiful music. I'm new in watching K-dramas and it's true that the drama has many flaws, but I don't believe bad guy is the worst K-drama. It is still one of the most watched dramas on vikii after it ended its air time a few moths ago.

I discover Han Ga In because Chang min of DBSK was a die hard fan...and since I was a big fan then,, I looked her up and was relieved she was married..lol...However, I came across Super Rookie and I really liked her with Eric there,,and I watched her cfs.....and movies,,and then I said "woahh..she is really pretty" and I heard she never got anything done,,and her Childhood pics were exactly the same,,, anyway afterwards I discovered that she got married before the guy went to army..and left her alone for 2 years...lol I thought that time "it was like, reservation, was he scared that after he comes out, she'll be gone?" ...so I got curious about the guy and watched his previous work, and I really liked him from Love Song with Kwon Sang Woo, and the one with Lee Wan.. and he seems to be really in love with Han Ga In..I saw some wedding clips..lots of guys were kinda sad she got married, lot of idols liked her back then, she was at her prime and was so young, but I had "2nd lead" syndrome from watching Love Song so...in short I Really Like this Couple and I will be really sad if they divorce.. they should stay make babies soon and stay together forever

My view is because KNG failed to get the military extension that the scriptwriter had to change and cut short the episodes and the director had to film his dialogues first rather then synchronise with the flow of the story. So the outcome is - failed drama.

People say that, but I don't think it's really true. Spoilers for Bad Guy's ending got leaked out early in the show, and it turned out to be true. People HATED that ending.
My guess is, given more time to do the show, it would have come out even more cynical than it did.

Agreed that given more time, the ending would not have changed or even more cynical. The ending was realistically cruel but it’s the intention of the director & writer. Reading these parts of the interview with director Lee Hyeong Min may clarify things (translation by atel in BG soompi thread):
Q. Your previous project was the movie, , so it was thought that your next project would be another movie as well. The idea for came from the classic, . How did it come about?
A. To be honest, wouldn’t you say that the dramas I’ve worked on had pretty stories? But this is different. It’s a really gritty story about desire. Korean society is serious but I’ve always wanted to do a drama like this. You could say that it’s a similar story like . I’m planning to tell a story about people’s desires, about people’s humiliation.
Q. It appears that unlike from your previous works, this drama will be one that will leave a rather different impression. You, yourself, must feel some pressure. What is the reason for working with that kind of pressure and telling this kind of theme at this time?
A. I think of this story as being immensely real. People don’t say it, but people already know it is that kind of theme. Possibly, depending how far I go with it, I would even get criticized for it. That’s because it’s an intense thing to provoke people’s desires and humiliations. It can be thought of as being dirty, or they can see it as their own stories. The people who have enjoyed my works up until now may even get surprised. The anticipation is great because I’ve always wanted to do this kind of story.

Q. Your previous project was the movie, "Heaven's Postman", so it was thought that your next project would be another movie as well. The idea for "Bad Guy" came from the classic, "The Red and the Black (Le Rouge et le Noir)". How did it come about?
A. To be honest, wouldn’t you say that the dramas I’ve worked on had pretty stories? But this is different. It’s a really gritty story about desire. Korean society is serious but I’ve always wanted to do a drama like this. You could say that it’s a similar story like "Couple;s Clinic Love and War". I've posted my thoughts on Bad Guy's ending, and for the most part, I thought it was good as it fits conventional noir. Most noir works from a Pandora's Box narrative. If you discover or expose the world, the world or you will be destroyed. Either/or. Chaos and order. Shim Geun Wook is the chaos; his antagonist is the order of this story. In that sense, SGW is kind of the villain of the story.
Now, don't get me wrong. Bad Guy IS most definitely a melodrama, and the last 1/3 dials up The Wacky in a way that makes Belleza so very happy. Also, the ending probably isn't directed that way, what with the emphasis on images over story, if they had more time with Kim Nam Gil.

I always have fetish to Korean's electronics.. Samsung and LG always have pretty models for their stuffs, especially compared to Western's electronics.
Asians are better when making electronics interesting, because they add 'weird' but surprisingly useful functions.

i dont mind tragic ending if it makes sense with the story. i love I'm Sorry I Love You including its ending. i despise the ending and the later episodes of A Love To Kill which were unnecessarily depressing. i can accept Stairway to Heaven ending because that drama has been very melo from the beginning. what else. anyway, i honestly have been really tempted to watch What Happen In Bali because of the good reviews. its been nearly 2yrs already i think that i put that drama on hold. should i watch it?

@Gingeru - I disagree that Bad Guy is a failed drama due to the rush ending. I myself like the ending, it was realistic, meaningful & artistic. It takes an OPEN-MINDED PERSON to comprehend this realistically cruel ending mentioned by nameless.
@Ayesha - I agree that Bad Guy doesn’t trumps everything in the badness category. It doesn’t deserve the continuous bashing, it has marvelous directing & acting and plus beautiful visual appeal & music. It takes an UNDERSTANDING PERSON to sympathize with Bad Guy misfortunate of losing its main lead Kim Nam Gil for military thus the lack of time issue leading to the understandably chaos & inconsistencies of the plot toward to end.
Sorry I’m off-topic too

@belleza - Shim Gun Wook is kind of the villain of the story with his revengeful masks on. However, underneath those bad masks there’s this extremely good guy. Below is by another viewer:
Throughout the whole Bad Guy drama up until the very end I thought that there must be an irony in the name. Gunwook cannot be the "Bad Guy" since all I was seeing was that this character is amazingly able to empathize with others and read what the other person needed the most to straighten his or her life and in my opinion even though he shook that family and meant to destroy it he ended up blessing it in a deeper sense. He was the one who suggested that Tae Sung needs a job and brought him back from wilderness and convinced his father to give him a job in the company and that ultimately did a great deal for his self-esteem and helped to straighten him up. Gun Wook was the one who exactly knew Tae Ra was trapped in her marriage and needed to be true to her feelings and live her own true life instead of that empty facade that she had built and that gave her the courage to break free from her lifeless marriage and become an independent woman. And the way he empathized with that silly materialistic fortune-hunter Jae In ultimately taught her a lesson, put her to shame and made her give up her greed and become a better, wiser, and more selfless person. That all came about because he could sense the deepest needs in the other person and having been around the block myself for some time I can tell a human being with such abilities is worth his own weight in gold! If you ask me he was an exceptionally "Good Guy"! But of course the self destructive aspect that was mentioned remains. The only one he was truly mean and tough to was himself! What a sad and heartbreaking drama this was! Still hunting me!

"Shim Gun Wook is kind of the villain of the story with his revengeful masks on."
Definitely . . . though I'm really looking at "villain" from a more genre perspective. SGW is the antagonist of the story, because he seeks to uproot the workings of the family. When we learn of the true nature of the family secret, it's almost Old Testament in its consequences (i.e. never belong.) His fate is certain.
The most tragic character of the story isn't actually him; it's Mo Ne (yes, the one everybody hates.) As the story is conceived, she's essentially the only "innocent" character in the show, who is as yet undecided about her role within the family. She has still yet to choose her identity.
By the end of the story, due to SGW's plan, Mo Ne essentially becomes her mother and repeats the family cycle. She levies the punishment due upon Shim Gun Wook, who in return makes a crucial choice that redeems and atones for his actions against Mo Ne.
Of course, had the show been extended another 3 episodes, we would have been some resolution regarding it. But I liked where it ended.

So this little topic about Han Ga In's CF has brought up the rather heavy discussion about Bad Guy all over again. I guess that drama somehow has left us with some kind of wound (or is it a scar) that wouldn't easily healed. I myself still feel strangely sad every time someone talks about this drama, pretty much like the feeling I had when I looked at the pictures of my already passed away friends or family members.

I just finished marathoning Bad Guy. At first was ok with the ending, but as I read disgrunted posts about the ending, I started to not like the ending. Mostly because Madame Shin got away with murder and was happy seeing her daughter gain control of Hae Shin which was still on its feet and prospering while Gun Wook was gone for ever.
I agree with @ Anonymous 45 that Gun Wook wasn´t really all that bad and that did some good to some of the family members.
Too bad that the quality of the scenes suffered in the last episodes versus the first episodes that had this cinamatography that gave a movie like feel to them.
I would have like a happier ending, but I believe that the ending had alreaday been decided from the beginning and that was that. I would still recommend it since the scenes betwee Gun Wook and Tae Ra sizzled and there were other good moments.
