Ratings creep upward for Sungkyunkwan Scandal

Well, with extensions confirmed for both Giant and Dong Yi, I think the best Sungkyunkwan Scandal can hope for is a strong third place showing in the Monday-Tuesday ratings race. And while the gains made this week are fairly small, at least they are encouraging: Week 2 brought in a 7.3% and 7.5%, up from last week’s twin 6.3% ratings.

By comparison, Dong Yi drew a 25.3% for its Tuesday episode, with Giant closing in on the gap with a 24.2%. Both dramas will be ending with 60 episodes, after being granted a 10-episode extension each.

But more than the uptick in the numbers, I’m finding Sungkyunkwan‘s story to be as refreshing and entertaining as I thought it last week. The series weaves bigger social, cultural, and political issues into what could be a frivolous trendy-drama story, adding some interesting depth to the plot. It doesn’t hurt that Yoo Ah-in takes a bigger role this week — he’d been the least featured last week but the most charismatic (in my opinion) of the four; the first two episodes focused more on series leads Park Min-young and Park Yoo-chun (aka Micky Yoochun), as well as the exceedingly engaging Song Joong-ki.

This is totally a winner for me. I love the story. This is even better than YAB, imao, but of course, minus TK's classic face & charisma. lol
I don't know Yoochun until now. But, I quite like his character and the way he presents. I read some people say his facial expressions are stiff. But I like that he is somewhat stiff because I think that's how his character is supposed to be. He is not only righteous & strong-headed but also outcasted. So, he has his own reservation when he is around other people. Btw, who is Song Joong Ki? This guy is completely winning me over. Every time he winks, I feel butterfly on my stomach. Too cute to be true.
Anyway, like YAB did, this show needs better ratings.

I'm so addicted to the storyline. I must have watched it in the raw a good 4 to 5 times. I can't wait for the next episode. Really went well over my expectations!

Well, This drama is well received by k-young people, Usually older audiences decide ratings in korea.
Older koreans are already glueing to other rival dramas, Dong-Yi and Giants, obviously, you're not watching these, but these dramas are equally good as SKK.
I think you would understand k-people if you watch the rival dramas and compare with SKK.
They are all deserved good ratings.
It's just SKK got unlucky , However, SKK is no 1 most watched onlines and is the talk of the young people. So don't be disapponited.

this drama is not good because it's too good, I never liked historical drama before, but Sungkyunkwan Scandal is an exception, I'm a SJK fan and he is the main reason I watch the drama but all the actors are good! new fan of Micky now, never knew him before, but he's the most gorgeous out of the 4 imo and his acting is good for a newb, his chemistry with Park Min Young is great, love Yoo Ah In and Jun Tae Soo too. Skk Scandal fighting, can't wait for ep 5 next week!

Haha, I'm the opposite. I watch this drama cause it has micky casted, but, as the drama flows, SJK wins over my heart, and I'm one of his fan now! XD

I gave the drama a shot today, and surprisingly I LOVED IT.. the only period/historical drama I've ever seen (as far as I remember) was GOONG, and i don't think that even counts because it was in the Modernized world. I'm surprised by the comedic relief and yet still pull dramatic scenes! The only one I recognized from the leads is the guy from Antique Bakery movie. So I watched Episode 1 earlier today, and ended up sacrificing my time to the GYM to finish all 4 episodes. LOL. I can't wait for the rest of the episodes and recaps here, although JB has mentioned that this drama isn't on the priority list so it may take her awhile to recap them. But I'll just be waiting patiently here =)

I hope the ratings go up!! =)

I noticed than Yoo Ah In looks more manlier in this project than others that he's done. Anyone notice this? He seems more older and mature (me like, me like!)

This dram deserves higher rating. It is well directed, beautiful to look at with beautiful music too. All the boys are hot in their own ways even the supporting casts. Storyline was solid so far.

No matter others said, my eyes only fix on LEE SUN-JOON (Micky). I just love this character and the most manly out of the three for me ( thanks to JB, she preferred the different one hehe). His not-so-familiar with acting blends in really well with the character of noble righteous man. Just love everything about him and I don't even know him from before. LEE SUN-JOON, my unwavering love goes to you!

Question: Does LEE SUN-JOON know that Yon-hee is a girl? Some of his gestures didn't seem fit for a man do to each other, he's kind of soft towards her.

"Does LEE SUN-JOON know that Yon-hee is a girl?"

I have been wondering the same thing for the same reason. And especially with that preview of ep. 5 when she's sleeping on his shoulder. The way he looks at her...

Up to epi 4, I don't think Sun-Joon knows that Yoon-hee is a girl. He told her to take her clothes off on their first night in the dorm room. He is a noble righteous man. So I don't think he would have said something like that to Yoon-hee if he knew.

I just watched all 4 eps of this today and I really loved it. I love that I'm getting a Hana Kimi vibe from this, I really really loved the manga Hana Kimi. All the other live actions so far with girl crossing didn't really give me that Hana Kimi vibe I was waiting for until this drama. This is Hana Kimi in ancient time ^^ Can't wait for ep 5~

With horrible and slow internet connection and prepping for a 3 wk Asia trip, time is precious. I have caught up to ep 4 (watched 2-4 til 4:30AM) despite a 7:30am wake up call? I LOVE it. I agree the plot is better and loving the new plot line involving the other characters. Song Joong Ki-you make me swoon. I do love his mix of facetiousness and charm. His constant push and pull with Park Min Young's character rocks.

I am not a really a DBSK fan, but Micky is holding his own though it hard when you have the other great actors in this drama. I agree the elements of this drama makes it more slightly substantial than the typical rom com. I am bummed I will be away for 3 weeks and will have major withdrawal!

This is just.so.sad. This drama is really good. I would say better than you're beautiful and coffee house (for me) Still can't match up to trendy drama all time fave coffee prince but it is definitely better than average. 10 % is like half my expectation for it.

the drama is great! the only explanation I have about the rating is that it seems that SBS dramas always have better rating than any other channels. I don't know why is that, probably other channels are not so easy to get in every household?

This is a great drama so viewers would expect it to wrap up nicely with both the main leads ending up together happily ever. Although there are many positive feedback on Yoo Ah-in but nevertheless his role should not overshadow the main actor. His acting is not as good as Micky. Micky's acting is just so natural and outstanding and deserves the highlight.
