Jejoongwon’s Sean Richard joins Athena
by javabeans
Another addition has been made to upcoming spy drama Athena, which premieres in December (Giant‘s extension has pushed the premiere back from its original November target): Sean Richard (or Sean Richard Dulake), the Korean-American actor who played Dr. Allen in SBS’s medical sageuk show Jejoongwon.
If you don’t recognize him, I don’t blame you; he was styled drastically differently in Jejoongwon, where I thought he was about twenty years older than his real age. (He’s 26.)
In Athena, he’ll be a part of Cha Seung-won‘s secret organization, shedding the gentler image from Jejoongwon to dive into the action genre.
Sean Richard (as he is known in the Korean press) was born to a British father and Korean mother and majored in business administration at Boston University, with a minor in acting. Following that, he continued acting in theater and shorts in New York.
Athena has moved from shooting in Italy to Japan, and will premiere in December on SBS.
I can’t weigh in on his acting just yet, but he does look the part. Take his appearance from Jejoongwon, followed by an ad for which he modeled — what a difference a suit makes:

Thanks javabeans for the news, Sean Richard is Lee Byung Hun's cousin. Sorry.. just missing the other actor's mention here. ^^ But hopefully Sean Richard would do well in Athena.. not really looking forward for the spin-off, but read the updates to keep updated. ^^

Really? I thought that was just an old rumor because they were under the same company. When Sean Richard was interviewed on a talk show once he mentioned LBH as an sunbae and not as family....

Ohh, it's my mistake.. thanks for the correction, Joanne. But they are indeed under the same agency although there were also posts saying that their mothers are sisters. Maybe true.. maybe not.. and maybe to keep the personal connection out of their professional careers.

Yeah those posts (I think some were on soompi) really confused me, too...because for awhile I thought they were cousins as well.
I think they mention LBH in this airang interview (2 parts):

Hello!
I just wanted to clarify that he IS Lee Byung Hoon's cousin. I know (of) him and his family (they're from Arcadia, CA) and he and his sister are cousins with LBH. :)
It's so weird to hear him referred to as "Sean Richard" because in high school he was known as Sean Dulake.

No doubt, no doubt. When he smiles, he could pass for Jo In Sung's brother from another mother.

it seems that athena is in big trouble at the moment since one of the lead SCW is so very ill so maybe they will have to rewrite the drama or something like that

hmmm, i read that they were rewriting his role a little bit to reflect him recovering from his current illness. HOWEVER, the show is not in big trouble since they haven't started broadcast yet and can still make necessary changes.
besides, i thought the main leads were jung woo sung and soo ae.

look at the cheekbones, chin and nose bridge- Koreans have different features than Europeans(caucasians) have
the asian mandible is usually a lil smaller, and the cheekbones aren't that high (they have their exceptions don't worry) -they are just a lil wider and European nose is a lil bigger with a higher nose bridge and higher tip of the nose -even asian faces look a lil bigger it ain't true : is just an optical illusion because of the wider cheekbones
conclusion: the proportions are a lil different,
google it for some pics if you don't believe me
personally I saw that there are quite noticeable physically differences between Japs and Koreans too
eyes indeed are obvious when a parent is Korean they tend to have Korean long eyes ... and in this combination(European+Korean) they tend to have a lil bigger eyes and maybe double eyelids
a few months ago I've read that Koreans made some statistics and the average volume of their heads and average area of a Korean face are smaller than usual white guys, respectively girls. In the same article is stated that their average height is increasing since WWII (I don't remember exactly from 1,50 ladies to an average of 1,60 nowadays and men from barely 1,70 to 1,80-here I might be wrong -when I'll find the article I'll post it)
now can I fangirl as usually above my Korean sweeties?(Omo I have a whole list of smexy guys Kim Nam Gil, No Min Woo, Kim Jae Wook, Kang Dong Won,Jun No Min, Lee Jun Ki,Park Shi Ho,Oh Ji ho,Lee Min Ho, Kim Bum,Lee Min Ki,Gong Yoo,Lee DOng Wook, Jae Hee,Jang Geun Suk,Song Joong Ki,Yoo Ah In, Yoo Seung Ho,Kim Nam Jin,Kim Hyun Joong,Cha Seung Won, Hyun Bin,Won Bin etc ) -and this are the guys I can spell their names without searching the correct spell on the net(and of course I saw at least a drama with each of them -and some of them almost cost me the divorce- KNG,No Min Woo, JGS and yes I know that they are normal ppl too-they all have GFs-one or more - or -yah why not BF)

Not exactly accurate.
Asian males (well, NE Asians) tend to have more prominent jawlines than Caucasian males, but less promiment and more rounded chins.
Also, high cheekbones are more prominent among NE Asians, but the cheekbones also tend to be broader.
W/ regard to Sean Richard, the majority of males (whether NE Asian or Caucasian) don't have that idealized facial structure.
Anyway, it's interesting to see that hapa (Korean) males play a bigger role in the Korean entertainment industry than their female counterparts; probably likely to there being more opportunities for hapa actresses in Hollywood.

Jejoongwon got strong acting performances from both Sean Richard and Ricky Lee. Sean's going to be a star, especially since he looks so much like Jo In Sung that . . .. I MISS JO IN SUNG!!! :( :( :(

I was looking forward to his return as he did a good job in Jejoongwon, (very believable). To be frank I don't think Daniel Henney can act in all the shows that I have seen him in all that comes to mind is eye candy - no real substance.
Question - in terms of enlistment is it applicable to Korean citizens only (born & live) or does it include those who are mixed and living in Korea (are they viewed as citizens too)? Just curious.
Other - Hope CSW recovers soon as he's an amazing actor who is the main interest for me to consider watching Athena.

The best thing about him is with dark hair he looks very asian namely because he is a one-eyelided man (sorry not to sound racist but I am not into european or european looking men).

except his eyes he looks very european to me (believe me I live here)
you don't have to be into white, black, indian guys -is a matter of taste or usually we like beautiful ppl specially ppl from our race - personally when I see a sexy black or a sexy Japanesse or Korean: if they are sexy I will drool over them no matter the race ... but I'm married with a guy like me
I'm not that naive to think that a marriage between the races goes smoothly :there are cultural differences beside the skin tone

I apologize- I don't know other term I could use -please tell me a good one so I could use in the future
I'm not a person trying to offend anyone - if I did it was unintentional
for me is odd (cultural difference)because Russian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Italian, Spanish(Spaniards) are not offending terms(each of us is proud of his nationality)-so please explain why the name of the country isn't the same for his inhabitants or how could this offend them or you-
I'm sorry again because I don't know enough history or enough grammar

Ooh, Sean Richard! He was pretty good in Jejoongwon as Dr. Allen; I didn't find him OTT or anything and thought he played the part well. I was really sad when his character's part in the drama ended, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of him now!
