JB, much as I LOVE KHJ, I totally am in agreement with you on your "wary optimism" comment!!! Yet, despite that, I'm anticipating this drama more than "Gumiho"...but being the KDA that I am...I'll still watch BOTH!!!
Who knows, it might spring me a surprise? Much like "prosecutor Princess" became one of my all-time favorites, when I was actually expecting "Personal Taste" to be better!!!

Ok, is it only me or KHJ is oozing lots of charisma in the stills? I mean, judging from his past acting activities, I would have never though I'd be this excited about Playful kiss (I did watch ISWAK and TKA and I pushed the FF button A LOT!), but now I am? the more stills I see, the more I want to see it and the more hopeful I get he might actually be good in this drama. *crosses fingers* IDEK why I have this feeling. He looks different? The way he carries himself? IDK, there's something quite different about him, but I can't quite put my finger on it. They look cute together.

I thought the same, that I would like Personal Taste better than Prosecutor Princess, but until now I have not watched the last 3 episodes of Personal Taste. Prosecutor Princess will be on my top favorite K-drama, #1 is Coffee House :o)

The stills for Playful Kiss is getting better and better, I will probably watch this than My gf is a Guminho since I don't find the lead guy there cute, ever since Shining Inheritance.

And as much as KHJ's acting is concern..."wary optimism" at least his cute :o) so I will probably watch this . . . aja aja fighting!!!

I love the Taiwanese version (ISWAK and TKA) great chemistry between Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng so looking forward on how the K-drama will be.

So. Cute. These pictures have me excited for the series. And I am one of those that hopes JSM will add something else to the lead girl.

I actually really disliked how the lead was played out in ISWAK (I am not hating the drama, just wasn't my taste. No tomatoes please).

I'm really really hopeful that JSM will make the character lovable and appealing.

I'm actually more worried more for JSM's character than KHJ's acting just because I had so many issues with that character in the other drama.

She a natural when it come skin ship, she look relax and comfortable. I'm not surprise with her abilities to be so realistic in a skin ship scene, every since the bathroom scene in "Bad Guy" I knew she do well. Natural body language is a great traits to have in K-drama so many of the actor/actress have not learn to act in character when doing a skin ships scene, you can see right through the computer screen they whole body and facial expression says I'm in a room surrounded by cast members!

Love this drama in Japanese and Taiwanese versions.
I'm sure it will work nicely in K-drama too.

My 2cents worth: I specifically went back and watched KHJ in BOF and skipped the other scenes, and he actually did a far more credible job of adapting the character of Rui from the original manga than the other actors taking on the role. Rui is 'off' in his own world for most of the manga, a blank slate to his buddies, Akira and Sojiro and Tsukasa, who are always saying things like "What's that guy thinking?". He doesn't share, except with Tsukushi: she brings out his feelings.

And despite all the harsh criticism from some dramaphiles, the director and KHJ himself, in interviews they gave, have made it clear they were attempting to be true to Rui with the character Jihoo. I've just re-read the mangas to make sure I was on track before watching BOF the last few days.

I said all that to say that in his live performances, music videos, and previous shows, and BOF, KJH has expressed fairly well a wide range of emotions and complex feelings. He has a less-expressive face than many actors, to be sure, which is why he's being cast in these roles, one would think.

Again, in the ISWAK/PK/Itazura na Kiss manga, Naoki is described repeatedly as a very cold character: if there's very much expression coming out of KJH, then, I'd be surprised, unless the writers and directors decide to make a wild left k-drama turn from the source material.

Again, I'm encouraged by the cute chemistry they've already shown in stills, and a careful re-read and re-watch of BOF, and now doing the same with Itazura na Kiss in prep for the Sept 1 launch date.

Should be interesting to see how they pull it together.

Well the picture does look cute! I totally didn't expect that. Ever since the news of the Korean version of ISWAK came out, I have not been having much interest since the Taiwanese version is always the best for me. But after looking at the stills released so far, I am willing to give this a try. The only bad thing is the timing; September is when the fall semester starts and all things get hectic. :/ Anyway, hope it does not disappoint me too much!

Eeeeeeh....I don't really see the chemistry there. I feel like KHJ made any attempt at some sort of feeling in that picture other than to just close his eyes and lean in. I guess I'll have to wait for some actual footage to make a better judgement, but I'm still highly pessimistic at this point =T
