Family sitcom High Kick gets a Season 3
by javabeans
After the success of 2006’s Unstoppable High Kick and 2010’s High Kick Through the Roof, director Kim Byung-wook has signed on with Chorokbaem Media, producers of the first two series, to produce a third season.
Both sitcoms were 30-minute daily shows that aired more than 100 episodes and launched the careers of quite a number of young stars: Jung Il-woo, Kim Bum, Kim Hye-sung, Park Min-young, Yoon Shi-yoon, Shin Se-kyung, Hwang Jung-eum, and Daniel Choi, to name some. (Some of those actors had previous credits, but it was their High Kick experience that really put them in the mainstream public consciousness.)
Despite being called a third “season,” don’t expect a return of the same characters or storylines. The two existing seasons come from the same PD and share the same grumpy grandpa (Lee Soon-jae), but feature entirely different characters. Consider it similar to the Nonstop series, just set around a large family rather than a university campus.
Season 3 will also bring onboard a fresh cast, although you can expect a similar mix of light-hearted family scenarios with a bit of melodrama at some points. (Korean sitcoms aren’t really that comedic in the way we think of sitcoms in the States, but the format employs a light touch and loose plotting.)
The next season will air sometime in 2011. I wonder what kind of kicky (har) title it’ll get…

After the terrible ending he put us through HKTTR, I'm definitely staying way away from the 3rd one.

i'm quite excited for this especially considering the first 2 seasons were great (even though the ending for the 2nd season is just plain BAD)..
And, they're always successful in creating new stars. Kim Bum, Jung Il Woo, Yoon Si Yoon, Shin Se Kyung, Hwang Jung Eum, Choi Daniel
Honestly, i thought YSY is pretty plain even though he's quite good looking at first but now, he's looking more like a star especially after the drama. So, i think High kick is like a "school" to budding stars.. and i always welcome new eye-candies. hahaha

Actually HKTTR didn't launch Shin Se Kyung's career, it did make her a star though. She was actually in a couple of other projects prior to the show. For example the first role I saw her in was My little bride with Moon Geun Young.
I do agree though that the show definitely makes stars out of the young newbie actors that participate in it. That director/PD definitely has an eye for acting talent since most of the actors that became stars after this show have been praised for their solid acting skills in their following projects.

Oh come on, the LAST episode was bad. but everything else was just pure slapstick and i just love family sitcoms. sitcoms in general-its a dying genre these days.
ANYWAYS. Im looking forward to it. I was in a withdrawal after the last high kick because the characters really grow on you etc.
YES!!

POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!!!!
I'm not going to watch it because I didn't like the ending of HKTTR (Season 2). I can't trust the PD to have a well rounded story.
I got to episode 47 before I went looking for the final episode just to know who was going to end up with whom. I'm so glad that I did. If you knew that there'd be that kind of ending, folks wouldn't want to watch the show.
If I wanted to watch a tragedy I'd watch an Arnold Swartzenegger independent film.

Aish!! This better not have a bad ending like the last season. Jesus, I'm still not over how horrible it was. I'm gonna wait until all episodes of this air so I can read the ending before I watch it all....wouldn't want to waste my life on watching it i it's going to be a shit ending.

This is a very amusing show, and so light compared to U.S. comedy. It's just what some of us need at the end of the day..hilarious!

i love the story but the ending was SERIOUSLY bad! Sorry.
i cant get over it that it ended that way. i was more of hoping that they would redo the last few episodes like maybe they stayed and lived together happily and jun hyuk and se kyung continued and became a couple or in season 3 saying that they did not died and found each other again

I loved the two seasons, but then ending of BOTH was really what the frick is that kind of ending. I seriously hated it.
But till the ending, everything was really good. Even though i couldn't help but notice that everything got sadder and sadder towards the end, it sortta helped me to accept the ending.
i also didn't like that the brother somehow always likes a girl that he shouldn't be liking. like a teacher, or an older ayi.
I'm still gonna give highkick a chance.
I LOVE HIGHKICK STILL (the cast is awesome for the last two seasons)
