Choi Su-jong to play next Korean President
by girlfriday
Interesting how dramas always come in pairs, right? There’s Gumiho Fox Child and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Runaway and Athena, Road No. 1 and Comrades. Now Daemul vs. President?
Veteran actor Choi Su-jong (most recently of Comrades, and for those of you who remember the nineties, Jealousy) has just been cast as the lead in the upcoming KBS drama President [프레지던트].
It looks to be a different take on the presidency as Daemul, because this one is set a few decades in the past, and focuses on one man’s journey toward BECOMING the president, rather than a portrayal of a sitting one. But if President gets its act together faster than Daemul (which should be a piece of cake, considering all the production woes) then it’s got a chance to steal some thunder if it’s good right out of the gate.
Choi Su-jong will play President-to-be Jang Il-joon, who starts off as a top-university law school graduate. He gets involved in student protests during the time of the overthrowing of the Yushin regime (President Park Chung-hee, assassinated 1979) and meets the greatest challenge of his life, instilling a new dream in the idealistic young man.
He becomes a civil rights lawyer, then a congressman, and then throws his hat into the presidential race, with the dream of moving the nation toward change. His will be a tale of overcoming all odds to become president, and of course, the intense love story that fuels him.
This? Sounds A-MAZ-ING.
President will follow Runaway, which follows Baker King. It premieres December 8 on KBS.

I'm watching Comrades and absolutely love CSJ in it.
''He gets involved in student protests during the time of the overthrowing of the Yushin regime (President Park Chung-hee, assassinated 1979).''
This part sounds more Giant than Daemul, since it's a theme recently covered in the former.

Dae JoYoung! i dont think i'll ever forget that series since that's my first k-historical drama i've ever watched!
it'll be interesting to see who rises above here. Choi Sujong seems to have quite successful dramas while Kwon Sangwoo's having a hard time for his dramas to rate well; but considering the female lead of Daemul... will be an interesting match.

yay!!~~
more Choi SooJong...I'm finishing up Comrades....which I think is this year's best drama so far!!~
somehow Choi SooJong has this luck where his drama never really flops.....and as I've said in earlier posts before, CSJ makes other actors around him act real well....for some unknown reasons....>.<~~

Is it just me... I think Choi Su Jong looks like Johnny Depp, esp in the "gladiator" scene in the Emperor Of The Sea.
A loving husband, I read, and a solid down-to-earth actor with great acting skills - an easy-going "ching-gu" of many ahjummas and ahjossis, shall I say?
I think he used to take comic roles when he was younger. I had fun kicks watching him in old dramas (played in K-restaurants) after Emperor Of The Sea, whose character is anything but comical.

Choi Su Jong is an amazing actor. I am so happy he's back again. I haven't watched Comrades, but have read it is excellent. He is the reason I started to watch Kdramas.
Saw him in Dae Jo Young and then Emperor of the Sea. He was mesmerizing.

Just saw him in comrades and that picture of him up there (with the crossed arms) LOOKS SO DIFFERENT. He lost so much weight filming Comrades, his cheekbones have become sooo defined.
(BTW, did anyone notice that they used eyeliner on him alot during the show (which was awesome)?)

Why would his drama flop? He is a seasoned actor who knows his craft and is love by his fans the world over. When he comes on the screen he is magnanimous, brilliant, he is an actor, not a reactor like most of the korean actress/actors.
From the first time I saw him in "First love" I fell in love with him the actor, he emotes passion and an understanding for what he does, he can command his audience attention...Love, love, love him. Look forward to this drama, I have seen thus far everything he has stared in and will continue to support him.
