The Demolished Man opens strong
by javabeans
Kim Myung-min‘s new thriller The Demolished Man released on Thursday, and has topped the Korean box office. In those two days, the film has drawn nearly 200,000 admittances, which puts sales at a brisk pace. That made it second in overall ticket sales, and the top Korean film. (Beating it out was Hollywood movie Shrek Forever.)
Demolished Man stars Kim as a minister who loses his faith in God when his young daughter is kidnapped. She is believed to be dead until the psycho abductor (played by Eom Ki-joon) contacts him eight years later, spurring Kim to extremes to recover her. The movie also stars Park Joo-mi.
Initial reviews praise Kim for his impassioned performance — not that we’re surprised, since he’s known for going to extremes in the name of building character. (By his own admission, he had some difficulty fully recovering after he so drastically lost for his last film, My Love By My Side. After immersing himself in the role for months, he dropped 20kg to play a Lou Gehrig’s disease sufferer and couldn’t quite gain it all back.) Next, he’ll take on the role of a detective in a historical mystery film.

When a movie is topbilled by one of the nation's finest actors it just has to be number one. The premise of the movie sounds interesting too. For some reason it's giving me the "Signs" vibe. I can't wait to see this film.

Impressive.
Well, yes, I'm referring to the attendance figure as well as to his acting skills and his commitment to fully embody a character.

I'm not quite understand how these actors could gain or lose weight just like that. Always amazes me every time. I might be late here, but thinking of watching his drama 'Behind the white tower' . His role in Beethoven Virus is..ehh.. a bit harsh just like Ji Soo in CH, frustrating!

It's not a surprise it's doing so well. Kim Myung Min is a very talented, very special actor. They should be very proud in Korea for having him. He's one of those very rare actors that isn't just good, but grabs your attention and takes you along for an awesome ride in every single thing he does.
Very impressive actor and I gotta say, the movie seems so interesting too. Thriller, parent-child relationship, loss of faith, they are all very very interesting themes to explore and a good cast would make this movie great. And I think it has. Can't wait to see it!

mmmm I watched the movie today with my cousin
the acting from Kim Myung Min was (as expected) wonderful...but Eom Ki Joon was particularly amazing. I actually watched a show yesterday with Ahn Jae Wook having some dinner party with friends that he wants to thank, and Eom Ki Joon came. He was very polite and seemed shy on the show...and then in the movie he's a total maniac. I think I'm going to have scary dreams about him XD
that being said...I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the writing...I think people would understand if they watched the movie. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll stop here.
all in all...it was an okay movie. maybe my expectations were just too high....heheh
but I definitely recommend people to watch it. the clash between eom ki joon and kim myung min make it worth it. if the characters were acted out by lesser actors, the movie wouldn't have been as powerful just because of the storyline imo.

If what they wrote is true, then the writers of the movie disobeyed the most important rule about writing a story - making the people care about the characters. :(
