Lee Min-ho declines lead, Playful Kiss still looking for its cast
by javabeans
Aw, man. For one brief moment I got totally excited. One story published today reports that Lee Min-ho has been cast as the lead in Playful Kiss, aka the remake of Itazura na Kiss / It Started With A Kiss. And girlfriday and I literally, and I mean literally-out-loud, squealed in glee when we thought it was happening. However, his representation was quick to deny it as untrue.
According to the initial source, Lee Min-ho supposedly chose this project out of loyalty to Group Eight, the production house that cast him in Boys Before Flowers and basically jump-started his career as a leading man and hot commodity. However, according to Lee’s management, while it is true that he received the offer, he has politely declined. (Granted, the role would probably have gotten him typecast, but I say he’s young and hot and has plenty of time to branch out in the future.)
There has been a lot, and I mean A LOT of noise about Boys Before Flowers‘ Kim Hyun-joong or You’re Beautiful‘s Jung Yong-hwa taking the main role, but nothing has been confirmed and casting rumors remain hazy and noncommital.
Top contenders for the female lead include Park Shin-hye (You’re Beautiful) and Kara’s Han Seung-yeon. Despite some legal problems, Park Bo-young‘s name is still being tossed about by some. (Could you imagine if she were cast with Lee Min-ho? That would be almost too good to be true; I think I’d burst of excitement.)

@diadda - I read that, too. Dang it! My interest in this drama just dropped major notches. I hope they cast a really REALLY good lead actress. I do have a tiny (the tiniest of the tiny) sliver of hope that KHJ's acting since BOF improves.

KIM SOO HYUN!! I AGREE!! If you've seen Will it Snow for Christmas you'll know that he is actually a very good actor!
I'm sorry but Kim Hyun Joong is just...i dunno. I don't like his acting very much, but i hope he'll change my mind with this drama. Better not screw this up!
Park Shin Hye for female lead please! I'm so sick of all these people from idol groups being put into dramas when there are perfectly talented actresses right in from of them!
*sigh* well i hope Kim Soo Hyun will get a lead part in something soon! I want to see his acting again!

Kim Hyun Joong is a decent actor. There are many different schools/methods of acting. Asians being the more theatrical and Americans being more natural. Kim Hyun Joong's acting is quite subtle and really pretty good. He is able to convey a mood without words. And he has a lot of presence.

My choice would be Kim Jae Wook. He is tall and now is quite a good actor..he just did BAD GUY with Kim Nam Gil. Not very efficient production but the lads were really good in the acting realm. Besides he looks good and can be a trifle mysterious and aloof which would be just the thing.
Not sure about the leading lady.

An American fan here of LMH and Kim Hyun Joong. I liked KHJ immensely in Mischievous Kiss drama. Watched it several times over. I think his character portrayal of a "genius" was true to form. Slightly arrogant, withdrawn, almost to the point of being somewhat non-feeling. I thought it was very good acting. When he is criticized for being stiff and a bad actor, they don't realize what kind of character he was told to be. I love anything he does in acting and I am so glad that he is going to prioritize his acting gift instead of music. I think being a single K-Pop is tougher to pull off than several guys in a band together with their dance moves, etc. Prayed diligently for him during the recent "scandal" that it would come to nothing and his career would not be damaged. He's not the kind of person to be violent with a female. Sending greetings to you, KHJ from America. We believe in you!!!
