Kim Nam-gil’s army enlistment endangers Bad Guy

As if the production weren’t beleaguered enough with pre-show timeslot confusion, delayed broadcasts, and random controversies, now they may be facing a critical situation with the loss of the drama’s star, its titular bad guy Kim Nam-gil.

Kim received his papers to report for army enlistment on July 15, which is during the drama’s scheduled run. He has requested an extension, but the production faces serious obstacles if he is not granted one. Extensions are not rare, but it’s worth nothing that Kim was already given one in March, making a second one less likely.

As one measure in the event of a worst-case scenario, they will shoot all of Kim’s scenes up front, to get as much of that on film as they can. That may work for a movie, but when you’re talking about an ongoing drama series that films week to week, such a plan may prove untenable. As of right now, ten episodes have been filmed. Although the production is a few weeks ahead of schedule, the episode that airs on his enlistment date is only Episode 11 out of a total 20, and they were scheduled to wrap shooting at the end of the month.

According to Kim’s management, he has met all the conditions in his contract — if there is trouble, it is because the production delayed filming. “If he is not granted an extension, he will have to report for duty.”

Another source gave a VERY spoilery bit of info (honestly, don’t read it if you don’t want to be very spoiled), so I’ll put it in white:
Kim will only appear through Episode 17. The source said, “Kim Nam-gil’s character of Shim Gun-wook was always supposed to die in the middle. Therefore he will only be in it through Episode 17.” To temper that spoiler, the source added, “Just because he dies doesn’t suck out the drama’s strength. It actually makes it more shocking and gives it a real twist.”
Sigh, Bad Guy, you really can’t catch a break, can you? Let’s just hope things work out.

@37
Gun Wook deserved that punishment in the drama but please don’t sound too happy because KNG is a great person and a very talented actor. While most people are sad that KNG might leave the drama early. It’s kind of nasty and insensible for any immature person to express happiness during this downfall period.

KNG going to the military while filming is very pitiful and without KNG or shrinking KNG parts, there’s no Bad Guy. I’m very disappointed.

Praying KNG for a granted extension!

I'm sad... BG is a really good drama so I hope they will grant KNG an extension!! The drama should end the way it's planned (20 episodes no shorter than that!).
And yes I read the *SPOILER*. CRAP!

I will miss KNG badly. Oh no 2 years T^T

Killing the main character doesn't suck, just calm down. If it is done in a sensible way, it's good for the story. Plus, KNG was granted one extention for 3 months already and it's all SBS fault they couldn't meet all the deadlines.
It's not like he's avoiding the military, and I bet asking for another extention may sound like it.
This spoiler was considered a hoax though, some time ago. But now I guess it's true. (??)

Omigod!!! No-no-no-nooooooohh!!! This is not happening! I thought he will be entering Military Services between Fall or Winter? Finishing his drama Bad Guy first? What will happen next? My god, I'm so full of questions right now...I can't even think straight on how to react on this...I know and can fully understand that he needs to serve his country, like its a culture for them to do so ( coz its mandatory ) , but could they just be a little bit more understanding about Kim Nam Gil's situation? He is in the middle of his project already, and this is his FIRST TITULAR ROLE. Could they just give him a break? Many of his fans were already expressing their dismay over the situation....WE ARE NOT HAPPY ABOUT TAKING KIM NAM GIL IN AN ABRUPT CONDITION JUST LIKE THAT!

Would they be considerate enough to at least finish his project, BAD GUY, before entering the military? At least a graceful exit ? And for the sake of those who love KNG so much around the world, would they allow us fans, to at least see our beloved OPPA to finish his work?

Also, Im hoping that someone could read and relay this message to the Korean Military Services Department. I know, im not even in the position to say this, but I do know that it is clear that you practice democracy in your country...Would you be considerate enough to let our OPPA, KIM NAM GIL, finish his drama before he enters the military? Many people would be grateful for the CONSIDERATION, SUPPORT & UNDERSTANDING that you will bestow upon him...from the production team, casts & crew members, friends, family members and people around the globe who love him so dearly....

Again, we will appreciate & forever be grateful if you'll grant that little wish to PLEASE let him finish his project....Thank You.

Well, I've read the spoiler, I always read spoilers, and I think I'll stop watching BG now. Are they competing for the most ridiculous ending ever? They need not worry, they'll win hands down.

To the makers of the series: if this is true, it is total crap and you should go back to the drawing board (with heads bowed in shame, for having thought of that end in the first place).

Correction at @25 cutie22
Movieweek interview translated by atel, Producer Lee Hyeong Min stated:
“Perhaps, if it weren’t for Kim Nam gil, the title for the drama would be something other than Bad Guy. I don’t want someone else as the other than Kim Nam Gil”.

He’s right, Kim Nam Gil is portraying Gun Wook a very complex, multi-faces and manipulative bad guy character very well at the moment. And hopefully with the original well planned 20 episodes, KNG might bring out a very fresh impressive bad guy character. However, with the potential of shrinking and changing plot might destroy the drama. Therefore, I’m very frustrated and upset about this bad call for military service. Well hope thing will work out for Bad Guy.

WTF, Show? (hey girlfriday!) Are you kidding me?

I can't believe it! This spoiler is so ridiculous! If it's true, I think I'll stop watching the drama too. Nam Gil is the soul of the show. Even if he died in the middle it would be horrible still. Urgh.

Last season I watched almost every drama. This time I was watching only Coffee House and Bad Guy. I think I just lost my motivation to watch the second.

Maybe I'll keep on eye on this drama because of Kim Jae-wook, but I'm really sad right now.

I shouldn't have read that spoiler, now I don't know if to keep watching it or not and it was getting better than ever.
Why does he has to die?! Come one, isnt he one of the main? Kill the other guy! Or you can kill him but, like in the last episode.
I do think that maybe killing him would be good for the story but, in Epi 17? Come one!!!

Well I am hoping for the better.

Hopefully the army would let him finish filming.

I'm shocked!!

If the spoiler is really true (..though I wish it isn't..) I bet almost all of the viewers of Bad Guy would be really disappointed....

I have no problem with him dying in this drama but I'd rather want it to happen at the last episode.... but on episode 17?!.......grrrrrrrr......it makes me want to scream in frustration!!

I love Kim Nam Gil!! And they're right.... Bad Guy isn't Bad Guy without Kim Nam Gil!!

Why do he always die in the end, like in Queen Shonduk and Lovers Vanished? :(
