Personal Taste preview clip(s)
by javabeans
First off, this just goes to show how important music selection is, because these two previews use different background music. The above is the one on Korean sites, but it looks like the version on Youtube isn’t allowed to use Green Day. (At least I think that explains the change.) In any case, as a result we get a wholly different feel with the instrumental piece.
I definitely prefer the above version, and it gives a nice breezy vibe without being overly sweet or cutesy, which is what you might expect given the drama’s premise.
It’s actually quite different from what I was expecting, but I like. What do you say?

Watching the 1st clip just kept me thinking of Green Day only...I'm not liking the second clip though. Couldn't they find a better song/music?!

My vote goes to the first one.
The second clip feels like a dream. The first one feels like a memory.
I'm looking for ward to it.

Good thing you showed us both of 'em java cuz that second one makes me feel like sum1 is dying andI would'v been like "Oh, this is SO not the place for makjang elements to popping up!" But yeah, I'm really excited for this one. It'll be interesting to see how they work around the gay issue bcuz eventhough the drama's premise is light, I think homophobia still has a stronghold in Korea. Well, cant wait!

I prefer the first one as well, since having words in the background make it feel more real. The second one has decent music, but seems more melancholy to me. Anyways, I'm so excited for this! I'm already feeling the chemistry.

wow this just shows how important to choose the right background song.
the below one is so weird. i hope they use the 'green day' on tv.
cant stop replaying it since yesterday. like it!
but yeah, i expected something different as well, something more cheerful and colourful like their photoshoot. something funny after reading your 3 chapter novel summaries. but this one definitely not dissapoint! the chemistry is overflowing and it leaves me wanting for more.my anticipation just keep increasing exponentially. it frightens me, i dont want to have too high expectation.
i really hope the drama pace will be good. please dont drag. and the script, the acting, the directing and everything. i want this drama to do well. pleasee~
its just so promising now.
btw, Thanks Lotsss JB for all the updates!

I prefer that first preview than the second too. I think I can feel the drama more like the first preview than the second one, based on the photo stills and novel.
This is scary. I don't want to raise my expectations, because I do not want to be disappointed in the end (or when the show airs). But in all honesty, I almost squealed here at work (I just realized, it's actually hard to control yourself from squealing when in you're in public or at work.).

okay. so i think the photos and stills of this drama don't do these two actors justice. what i mean by that is that their pictures don't show how great their chemistry is. like yeah, they were cute in the pictures together but i could actually feel the chemistry between them during the video preview and it's getting me waaay more excited than the pictures did. why can't march 31 just arrive already?!!?!? i'm dying waiting for this drama and cinderella's sister :[[[[

I think on the second one a fan might have switched the music and uploaded it on youtube to avoid copy-right infringement issue and the first one is actually the authentic preview. OST in this drama should be good with the music director who did MNIKSS & QSS..

I watched the 2nd teaser first and thought it seemed kinda dull and flat, yet the feel of the drama and the vibe completely changed when i watched the first one with Greenday.
Made it a whole lot more exciting for some reason even though its the exact same thing happening. lol

hey guys
to all the people who posted
how can you like the first one
and the song they chose
wake me up when september ends by green day
SERIOUSLY
the song itself was to discuss and to raise awareness of the IRAQ war and green dy used the song to protest about the us campaign in IRAQ
also the writer of the song was talking about the loss of his father 20 yeas ago and how september is a reminder of how much it hurts
how can it be applicable to a supposed gay min ho character getting in son ye jin character's pants being happy and all
im sorry
but NO the music in the first clip does not reflect the light hearted story of him being together with her
i know i may get flamed but im a bit disappointed with the clip

@honest_will
I'll bite, because I think your comment raises an interesting (if tangential) question about whether you can enjoy something apart from its political implications. Or does someone ALWAYS have to be aware of sociopolitical baggage when enjoying a piece of art? Is Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Comes" ever allowed to be a certain kind of song to one person, and a different song altogether to another person?
(Slippery slope, because there are some artists I can never enjoy because of their personal life -- Polanski, for one -- but I'm not one to insist someone else ought to share my reluctance to enjoy the art because of the artist.)
Personally, in this case I'm going with "I can enjoy the preview without feeling the burden of its Iraq War connotations" although I can see your point, given that American Idiot as a whole was conceptualized with a very specific point and was rather meant to make a political statement. More so than any of their other work, at least. But I don't think I'm necessarily beholden to their intent in listening to their music.

I guess you can say that the original MV (2nd video shown here) is a bit cheesy and even though I do like either one, I hope the Kdrama has a better OST than the one they used in the 2nd video.
Anyway, is it me or does Son Ye Jin's hairstyle reminds me a bit like 2NE1's Dara. Anyway, I loved it either way and I can't wait for this Kdrama. I don't know which I'm more anticipating... either this or Cinderella Sister but I love Son Ye Jin!

just to add to JB's comments: the author's dead. once the text (song, book, film, etc) is out there, the author can no longer control the meaning(s) made from the work. you may not dig the use of the song b/c you're quite aware of its political bent but others may not be. i wasn't but then i'm an ajumma. i remember being frustrated when i bought a seal CD (i'm really dating myself now, aren't i?) because it didn't include liner notes and when i looked for them online i found a statement from the artist saying that he didn't want to create meaning for the listeners--they should engage with the songs and create their own. HTH

Is it just me or does Lee Min Ho remind anyone else of Si-won from SuJu? I've just started watching BBF and first noticed it then but he definitely does in this vid too...
I can deal with that. Si-won's hot, so following that logic so too is LMH. :-D
I've read about this drama. Sounds fun. Can't wait to watch it/read the recaps.

Somehow.... I felt bored.
Or perhaps it's just a big disappointment? All I saw for 30 seconds was two people smiling and being cuddly towards each other... And that was it. Especially in the second teaser... cute music and two people being all smiles and giggles... It's too much for my little heart and eyes to handle.
Hopefully the actual episode will be entertaining, because I've been waiting for this for quite some time now and it's the first drama since BOF that LMH will be in... haaaaa.

Personally, I disliked the music in both. It had nothing to do with what the songs were really about.
The first one I disliked because the songs tone didn't match the imagery.
The second one was too twinkly for the imagery.
Maybe if they had found something that conveyed the mood of the images better it'd be okay, but with that said it wasn't much of a preview either. Not asking to give away best parts but they could have done something better.

It's funny, I was trying to figure out what Green Day song it would be when you said that. The first one that came into my head, given the premise, was "When I come around." But I guess that would have been too teen movie-ish. However, I feel like "When September Ends" is more solemn- it leads me to expect something different from the promo pictures. Something Nicholas Sparks-y and over-dramatic, neither of which generally work well for me. Where's my fun silly crack?
Notice how I didn't mention the second clip because it's not worth mentioning, and that's all I'm going to say about it.
Oh well, I suppose I'll just be pleasantly surprised! Also, LEE MIN HO HELL YEAH.

definitely prefer the first one. not so much because of the song itself, but you can see how the music fits the progression of the shots in the first preview. the shots change at key points in the song, the two actors look at each other at certain points - it just doesn't have the same effect as the first one.
honest_will is right that the original inspiration and commentary for the song is lost by its use in this clip, but i think that they tried to use the song to evoke the feeling of remembering good times past, which is also a theme addressed in the song. and i don't say this just because of the way they put the clip together, but also because of the specific verses they put into the clip. they didn't just throw the song in there so that they could have a cool backing track. the song still carries its meaning for people who've been affected by war and death, but its other, less obvious meaning of remembering the past is emphasized here, and i don't think this is a bad thing.
first time on dramabeans - love it! this drama looks interesting - Lee Minho is a cutie, though he had to grow on me. I'm waiting until the summer comes and i have a bit more time before i get into watching k-dramas - maybe by then they'll have subbed episodes of this, lol

Even if I didn't love Green Day the way I do, I would still prefer the first one. The second one feels like the song was just a substitute. The rhythm does not match and the tone is all wrong.
However, I agree that "Wake Me When September Ends" has a melancholy feel to it, but I'm not sure I would feel that way if I couldn't understand the lyrics. As an experiment, I turned off the sound and played the trailer against a few other Green Day songs. Most of them work just as well, if not better. (I think "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" and "Waiting" worked the best, in case anyone was curious.)
Music issues aside, the series looks adorable. I hope it lives up to its promise!

Now I must watch PT and download, because momochan is the world's biggest Green Day fan.
Wake me up When September Ends is about his father's death, not the war. Source for that = Billie Joe Armstrong - VH1's StoryTellers - his father died Sept 10 when Billie Joe was 10 years old. The video, OTOH, is about going to war, and Billie Joe agreed with the appropriateness of it.
Trust me if there is a factoid about Green Day that momochan does not know then it is unknowable. I may have the complete U2 collection, but momochan has the utterly complete Green Day collection.
This reminds me of my recurring rants about the use of Minstrel Boy in Pasta, though. To the music director of Pasta, clearly it didn't mean anything CLOSE to what it means to me. 8-)
Anyway - Imma watch this one!

And oddly enough this reminds me that when I was teaching momochan how to edit and upload videos, she cipped in about 30 seconds of fairly obscure Green Day and within a week the youtube music monitor had grabbed it and subbed in Bach remarkably similar to the one in the second clip....maybe that's the stock GreenDay replacement music! LOL!
