Bae Soo-bin added to Dong Yi
by javabeans
Something tells me that Brilliant Legacy fans are gonna flip: Bae Soo-bin will once again be teaming up with Han Hyo-joo in the historical drama Dong Yi. (Then again, as the series has already cast Ji Jin-hee as the king who takes Han’s water maid character as his concubine, this means that Bae Soo-bin once again will play second fiddle…)
Bae is no stranger to the sageuk, having acted in Emperor of the Sea, Jumong, and Painter of the Wind. In Dong Yi, his role is described as “Bi-dam-like” as he portrays a masculine swordsman. He is the childhood friend to Dong-yi’s older brother, who asks him to take care of his sister before dying. He therefore watches over her throughout her life, loving her devotedly.
Bae intends to beginning martial arts and sword training in order to portray his character realistically. Having already performed in historical dramas, Bae has the basic skills such as equestrian experience and should be ready to begin immediately. Filming will begin in late January.
Last year was a huge year for Bae, as his career took off with roles in two hit dramas, Brilliant Legacy and Angel’s Temptation, as well as the films Aeja and Girlfriends. This newest role ought to raise his profile even higher.

Ohh! First!
Oh my gosh! U serious??? Ah I really wanted BSB with HHJ in BL... ah just when I thought this may be his second chance, I realised that JJH is the main :(
Well considering this is saguek, there may be a possibility of BSB ending with HHJ? *still holding hope*

As far as I know, Dong-Yi is supposed to broadcast on MBC after Pasta.
Thanks for your information, anyway.

Yes. I am flipping out. So stinking happy he's in another drama. But I would like - at some point - to see him not be second fiddle or absolutely riddled with revenge. (But honestly it doesn't matter... he'll be on my computer screen. That's all that's important. He's so pretty!)
That being said - Very interested in watching this drama... Thanks javabeans!

"his role is described as “Bi-dam-like”
POOR BAE SOO BIN!!! :( :( :(
I'll just say this -- I went on my "do not support the rival character because this is K-drama, and if even if he gets the girl, he'll probably get killed by Jo In-Sung" rule for Brilliant Legacy. Why? Because Bae Soo Bin broke the mold of Greatest Oppa Ever -- it was like staring at The Perfect Man, and even Han Hyo Joo admitted that she'd choose Jun Se over Woo Hwan in real life. Let me reiterate -- JUN SE WAS PERFECT!!! Am I rite Brilliant Legacy fans??? ;)
I'm sorry -- I won't be able to take Han Hyo Joo's character throwing Bae Soo Bin's character again. Even IF it's a Bidam-style twist. Oh and speaking of BIdam, if they have Bae Soo Bin go through Bidam-style ending . . . Belleza can't cry no more!!! :( :( :(
Real talk: Honestly, I'm now kinda regretting that Ji Jin-hee is getting cast now in the lead role. (And I like JJH a lot.) It's just that if Don Yi cast HHJ and BSB together in the lead roles, I would have gone absolutely frigging insane for this show. I wouldn't even care if Don Yi ends with Chosun Dynasty annexing Central America. I would be fine, because damnit, I'd get the Brilliant Legacy ending I always wanted. (And it would be pretty sweet to see a Hanboks inside the Inca Empire.) Sigh. But knowing that Bae Soo Bin is going to get royally hosed . . . For the love of God, don't make Belleza cry with chants of POOR BAE SOO BIN. :( :( :(
BTW, can we cast Moon Chae Won too? ;)

I've watched him at Haeshin, Jumong, Painter.. and he really suits sageuk.
I've been waiting for him to return sageuks but not like this..and not with this cast T____T
Watched Han Hyo Joo at Iljimae and I dont think she can carry a long sageuk. Plus 50 episode sageuks doesnt interest me anymore. Always changes on the plot.. Even Ha Jung Woo would cast in a 50 episode drama I wont watch it I swear~~

POOR BAE SOO BIN...
aw, come on... how many times i would have to see him get rejected by the girl over and over again... (well, only in BL, though, but still!!!)
i vote for Jun Se over Hwan any given time!!!
i wonder why he always got the second lead rather than the main, is it his image on dramas to be the perfect Oppa rather than lover?? is it?? well he'll be my OPPA/LOVER perfectly (gets bricked...)
now i want to see him in Aeja...

@ #4 belleza - OMG! I love Bae Soo Bin's character Jun Se in Brilliant Legacy!!!!!! I wish his character was chosen over Woo Hwan and I kind of think it's nice of Hyo Joo to say that in real life she'd choose him.. Like you, I wish I didn't have to see BSB in another sub-man role with HHJ as lead again.. BUT I'll be happy to see their chemistry onscreen again.
MAYBE, just maybe in the near future - they will have their own drama as the 2 leads. Here's hoping someone from any of the tv networks over in K-land will see these post and make it happen.
Happy Tuesday all!

YES! I'm not saying this for he's teamed up with HHJ again, but cos I love the guy and I think he is a great actor. I loved him before Brilliant Legacy (how much I loved him in The painter of the wind? How much? Nobody knooooows. One of the best Kings evah!) and I'll watch anything he's in. But dammit, second lead again? *pouts* Not fair.

Ohhh I agree with you guys that I cannot bear to see HHJ reject BSB AGAIN!!!! It would be torture over and over again!
Yes! I actually preferred Jun Se over Hwan! Any other day!
But yes, 50 ep sageuk seems too long for me, but I'll watch it for BSB... and his chemistry with HHJ hehehe
oh also this guy never seems to rest does he? One project after another.. I mean I'm not complaining since I get to see him on my comp screen but I do hope he's healthy and all!
BSB is a brilliant actor and I am sure he will shine more this year :D Hopefully with a lead role (not includ Temp of Angel... )

I found Jun Se boring myself (I even ffed through his scenes *hides*) so I have no lingering "they must hook up" issues to carry over from Brilliant Legacy to Dong Yi, but the way they did a write-up for his Dong Yi character, there is no way I wouldn't want him with HHJ! Well, if he's Bidam-like, maybe he'll also get the girl at the end? :P

He's got the most beautiful eyes in the kdrama industry and just so pleasing on the eyes! I am not planning on watching Dong Yi though - 50 episodes is too long for me - and if it's successful, they will add another 12. LOL. Besides, I have a feeling HHJ's not going to be very good in this. :(
As for BL - I'd probably go for Hwan in real life as Jun-se just was too perfect.

I felt so sorry for him in Brilliant Legacy and now here we go again.

Considering that I've never got much past Brilliant Legacy to understand how "perfect" Bae Soo Bin was, I can understand how horrible this is for BL fans.
I may not have completed Brilliant Legacy, but I understand the pain... *thinks of all the past K-dramas that Biscuit has watched, screaming at the lead female in the tv for being a nutcase to not fall for the second lead*
The only problem I have with Bae Soo Bin in sagueks is that somehow he's stuck with very long... hair. I know you need long hair in sageuks and they usually tie it up, but not Bae Soo Bin! Just long hair flowing down from the head....
Please, just this once, let Bae Soo Bin have his hair tied!

Sh*t in a hand basket smothering a puppy! This almost gave me a brain aneuryism, and I was all totally happy today.
Okay, BSB not as first lead, fine with that. BSB not getting the girl, fine with that. Both decisions are IMO moronic, since the man is close the perfection in body and spirit.
But BSB not the first lead, not getting the girl (@ belleza, don't worry, In-sung oppa isn't getting anywhere near BSB, a beach in Bali, or a handgun, and since HJW is not involved, it's all good), AND paired with HHJ again! Are they just f*cking with us now!
C'mon, mental torture should be saved for lead actresses of k-dramas, NOT us viewers. Freaking give BSB and HHJ a good ending with LOTS of making out, and trust me, BSB can make HHJ kiss a man and open her mouth, unlike that cold fish kiss on the suspension bridge in Brilliant Legacy with Hwan, when I just smirked and say "yeah, Jun-se oppa would be tapping that ass on the side of the bridge if it was him." Just saying. No fair, I hate you stupid network, whichever one you are.
But BSB in a saguek is almost like BSB breathing, too effortless and easy!

Bae So bin is just adorable and super hot but his acting still needs much improvement. Admittedly, his acting wasn't convincing in Brilliant Legacy. I didn't believe that he fell for Go Eun Seung (HHJ's character). I will watch just for reunion although I can't stand period dramas because they are wayyy tooo L o n g

Even though I was rooting for Bae Soo-bin and Han Hyo-joo in Brilliant Legacy and it's supposed to be a joy to see them together again, but I think it's a little too soon for it to happen. And from what I read, he's going to play a character that gets rejected again? Actually, it may not be so bad, like Yeom Moon in Haesin, who never got the girl's love, but he became even more popular than the man who did.

I just finished watching Brilliant Legacy and I thought it was ok. WIth all the hype about this drama, I expected more from it. Disappointed. THe acting of HHJ and LSG was horrible and I didn't feel the chemistry between them. I thought Seung Mi and LSG had a better chemistry than the main couple.

@33 Anonymous - I feel exactly the same. I see no chemistry at all between HHJ and LSG, and I don't see they make a good looking couple either. There are some good touchy scenes between Seung Mi and LSG. And yet HHJ and LSG received the Best Couple award? I think it's just purely based on the ratings and popularity of the drama.

As I heard from a huge fan of BSB who knows much of the behind story, KKW was one of the candidates for the role after BSB refused to take this role. According to her, BSB was first chosen as the role, but after HHJ joined this drama, he decided not to do this drama since all the situation seem similar to BL which might make audience get confused. But the castind director and the PD insisted BSB for the role. So, in sum, yes KKW was dropped out in the casting stage.

So... they're cast in the same series as 2 of the 3(I guess?) main characters and they're not gonna be paired up with each other...? Seriously? I didn't have a problem with Eun Sung and Hwan pairing but now that Jun Se is back, he deserves a second chance! D:
Let him get his girl and have his happy ending.
But then um.. Bidam-like character..? I cried my eyes out for Bidam at the end... I don't know if I should feel excited for this drama or not =/

I only saw couple of episode of BL but I thought it was boring - I also didn't find what the hype was about. I saw BSB on the show but I didn't think he was all that great - maybe the character he was playing has something to do with that. I thought he is much better acting in Temptation of Angel - or maybe I just like this kind of character/story line better (I was a huge fan of Temptation of Wife -hehe). Looking forward to seeing more of his acting on TV in 2010 anyways!

Have just realised BSB is also 'Backstreet Boys' abbreviated. Now Bae Soo Bin could be the leader of an all-star band of Korean actors- I think he could be the vocalist and charm girls off their feet with those eyes of his- fit for a serenade! Park Ki Woong shall be the ever-endearing drummer (a la KBS Drama Awards night).. and the list goes on. Ok that was random :P
