Daemul comes back with Go Hyun-jung
by javabeans
After a turbulent production history, SBS’s Daemul (aka Big Fish) is back on, and Go Hyun-jung has been (re-)confirmed as the female lead playing the country’s first woman president.
The project had been set to go into production last year and had cast Go Hyun-jung opposite Kwon Sang-woo as a male gigolo who romances the president. But after director changes and continued delays, it was finally scrapped. Then, in April of this year, news resurfaced of a potential revival, but there had been no updates to the project until now.
The production had even taken legal action against Go earlier this year when she finally moved on from the floundering Daemul to take on Queen Seon-deok, and the company accused her of breaching her contract. (She fought back and other reports contended that she and Kwon were let go.) But there must not be any hard feelings and having Go on their side can only be a positive thing, as she is coming off a fabulous turn in Seon-deok and is being buzzed about as a virtual lock for the MBC Acting Daesang award, to be announced later today.
Now, we’ll just see who takes the male lead. I actually think it would be a great part for Kwon Sang-woo to take, and a much better one than his disappointing role in this year’s Cinderella Man. Daemul does not yet have a filming schedule.

LOL, wow, I'm really shocked that this is coming back. After reading article after article about all the horrible things hitting the production, I just gave up on this thing. Can't wait to see Go Hyun-jung in action! Looking forward to this drama just for her. (Hopefully good people get cast and the drama actually makes it this time!)

the plot sounds interesting!
While it might be a good project for Kwon Sang Woo to take, deep inside my heart I want someone else to take it.
Maybe...Jo Jin Moo? His last role in Dream was also disappointing, and I can see him as male gigolo - he has the look - and IMO, I like his acting better than KSW's.
Actually I would like to see Jo In Sung collaborates again with Go Hyun Jung, but when will his release date for the army? Next year? Bad timing.

I GAVE UP ON KWON SANG-WOO LONG TIME AGO. If he wants to venture into a different kind of role, that's fine. But please do not join this production. Go Hyun Jung is too precious and she needs good production, and I would be very happy if Mr. Kwon Sang Woo does not ruin the drama with his questionable acting. No thanks, Go Hyun Jung can go well with Joo Jin Mo or So Ji Sub.

Yeah, lawsuit aside, Go Hyun-Jung was still the frontrunner for the Daemul project. She's still IMO the next best fit to Lee Young Ae.
Also agree that Kwon Sang Woo would be the ideal fit. But if KSW does Iris 2, then why not go for the homerun and see if Lee Jung Jae is interested in a 15-year reunion . . .
Jo Jin Moo would be a beautiful fit. Popular in China too, so you get your Hallyu expectations. Go Soo and So Ji Sup would be good choices, but they're doing other projects.
"a virtual lock for the MBC Acting Daesang "
Sticky situation due to both Go Hyun Jung and Lee Yo Won being nominated for the Daesang.
If Go Hyun Jung wins, then it reiterates that the show was Queen Seon Duk: Starring This Mishil, and it makes Lee Yo Won look like the actress who couldn't command her own show.
If Lee Yo Won wins (which IMO would be an acceptable result), that would countermand the popular and critical perception as well as ratings that Go Hyun Jung was why people watched the show, and polls singling her out as one of the top performers of any show this year.
If both wins (seems the likely result), well that's two years in a row of MBC doing wacky ish with the Daesang.

This is the first time I hear of the plot and the female role. It sounds very interesting and something I would look forward to if SOMEONE ELSE takes the lead role. The first actor comes to mind is Cha Seung Won (City Hall).

It def piqued my interest when I heard about this but I gave it up as a goner. Now that it's back and Kwon Sang Woo has done a dodgy drama in the interim, IDEK. He needs to do something big to prove himself again and it'd be great for him if this was it. I'm less enthusiastic about this now than I was before but we'll see how it goes with the casting.
Now if only they'd revive that drama with Rain and Jeon Ji Hyun...

I think the original story has the man being younger. Otherwise, CSW FTW!! :)

@belleza
you, my dear, have my vote for best casting. I'd go with anyone you mentioned. They're all wonderful actors and I think any one of them would have a great chemistry with her.
I don't like Kwon Sang-woo's acting. I have watched a few things he's done and I.Just.Can't.Stand.it. I have tried to watch his project with an open mind, but no. It doesn't work for me. Maybe I'm spoiled.

At this point, all I really care about is that she's in it. Mishil really moved me and I've seen QSD far too many times than is allowed for a normal human being.
