Jang Geun-seok’s fifth Japanese fanmeeting
by javabeans
Fresh off his latest drama, You’re Beautiful, rising Hallyu star Jang Geun-seok held a fanmeeting in Japan on Sunday before a crowd of 2,000. The event was called 2009 Jang Keun Suk Fanmeeting in Tokyo and was held at Tokyo’s Sun Plaza. The attendees comprised fans from Japan, Korea, China, and even some who flew over from the U.S. to participate.
He sang several songs, including the song “Do You Hear It” (which he sang as part of the OST for his drama Beethoven Virus), “Good Bye” and “Without Words” (which he sang on the OST for You’re Beautiful), and even a trot tune.
This isn’t Jang’s first time in Japan; he held his first fanmeeting there in February 2008 and has held five total in that country. His popularity stems from the numerous roles he’s had over the past several years, several of which have been exported overseas with success. Among those are Hwang Jini, Hong Gil Dong, and Beethoven Virus, which will surely be followed by You’re Beautiful.
Following the fanmeeting, Jang flew back home to Korea, where he intends to take a break for the moment while surveying potential new projects.

103 blue_star: Yes, we have to pay to attend the fan meeting. The tickets were 9500yen each so about $89-90. But it was totaly worth it. We were there for three hours, three hours of non-stop Jang Geun Suk! Poor JGS. His show was supposed to end after he sang "Good-bye" but for some reason (I wish I knew Japanese), he came back out and after letting fans take pictures of him, he sang "Without a Word." So I don't think he intended to sing the song. But you got to love the man. Even without remembering the lyrics and making lines up (so cute!!), the fans still love him. He's so cute.

I can't help but felt irritated seeing the weird shoulder pads n d fur..
I mean, I like furs *artificial ones though* but i'm totally not digging d way dat fur was wore..
but then seeing him smile i can't help but to smile too..=p
n all of d sudden his weird fashion sense did not bother me as much..
oh d power of a beautiful killer smile..=)
juz like what many of d above comments had pointed out, it doesn't matter what he wear..
he can wear anything or even NOT wearing anything
d moment he flashes those killer smile i can't afford to be mad to him for wearing such weird clothes..=p

Yes I'm seriously going through YAB withdrawal...I've been a fan of JGS since his Hwang Jin Yi days and LOVE LOVE LOVED him on Baby and Me. The only reason why I gave YAB a chance and I'm SOOOOO glad I did was because of JGS. I thought the poster looked a bit cheesy and wasn't really interested in the synopsis they provided about behind the scenes idol group. THANK GOD I saw that he was in it. After that first show I was hooked!!!! I'm even more in love with JGS. I agree that at the beginning of the series I was a bit bothered by the clothing choices because they were too feminine, but I've got to say it grew on me and actually like him in those outfits. He's a fantastic actor that really does have a wide range of acting abilities. I don't know if anyone else saw the Ichewon Case but he was a bit scary there....but that just tells you he can go from an idol group cutesy role to a crazy murderer. He speaks great English! (Haha - that's why I wanted to see it...although I'm really not into that type of movie) I just hope he ventures into U.S. market like some of his fellow koreans (Bi Rain, Daniel Henney, etc) I would love to see him in big screens here then everyone can enjoy his acting! Anyways, whats everyone doing now that YAB is over? I keep scouring the Internet to find more information on any of the cast members because I'm so addicted to YAB!

Jang Geun Suk is extremely talented for one so young, and I count myself as one of his biggest fans, but like some of the previous commenters have mentioned, I too have disliked his outfits/hairstyles since the first episode of You're Beautiful. There is nothing wrong with appearing more effeminate, but his outfits are not flattering on him AT ALL.
But like I said, I'm one of his biggest fans, so I'd still like him even if he were wearing a giant rice cake on his head.

My YAB-withdrawals are seriously in overdrive. I know that things will get worse before they get better, and I am in the unhinged-territory right now. I scour YouTube endlessly for the latest JGS or YAB updates, going so far as to plug in the various spellings for JGS's name, including Korean and Japanese. Then there are soompi and other blogs to keep my madness at just the right percolating level.
I wish SBS had thought to do a special. The ending was such a letdown, I was not able to get closure. A special with more focus on the four would have been nice!
About JGS's style: I adore it. He mentioned in an interview on YouTube (subbed, obviously) that he thinks long and hard about what to wear for appearances, so the quirky clothes are his doing -- which endears me to him even more because it makes him more of a trend-defying artist rather than just a mannequin-ish actor. He is one of the more edgier kids out there on the scene, I think -- I am placing him within the Lee Min Ho, Kim Bum, Lee Min Ki, Lee Jun Ki "generation" -- and, best of all, he owns his style.
That said, his clothes during the first half of YAB were awful. Nobody should wear those tops -- male or female, in private or public.
I like this look of his the best ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJSPIa1zU7o ) . He looks his age (young and adorable).
Also, he better have taken PSH out on a date after returning to Korea
And I hope Hong Ki isn't missing his boy too much ;-) .

If he were anyone else, I would just turn my eyes away because those outfits are so... really... ouch!... *cringes*. But I have to admit that his... cough... fashion sense... cough... is slowly growing on me and I'm starting to think that is part of his charm. Besides, when JGS smiles or says something with that wonderful voice of his, I can forgive him just anything ^_^
And doing the pig-rabbit nose at the fan meeting... Soooo adorable!
Anyway, as much as I am looking forward to his next project, I hope he can rest a little bit first. He's fully deserved a vacation!
I'm so missing YB and HTK though...

I see Jang Geun-seok, Lee Min-ho, Kim Bum and Jung Il-woo as leading the pack in the around 22 and under generation. At any given moment, with the right drama/movie, any one of these guys will rock to the front of the pack in the limelight (the way JGS is right now - but remember the fan fervor 8 months ago with LMH, so let's not get too carried away, it does change).
I love them all, each as their own style and acting strengths, but I've really enjoyed watching JGS grow as an actor from his Hwang Jin-i days.
He owns his outfits, not the other way around, so he can do whatever he wants as long as it makes him happy.

"I really think that HTK character was written to fit JGS. "
Yeah, I think the Hong Sisters essentially wrote HTK for JGS (as this was their 2nd show together.) It's almost a parody of the stereotypical JGS character -- dour, self-important, etc. Also a lot of Kang Mae in there too.

I've always been pretty tough on Jang Geon Suk, because I tend to view him as the Yamapi of Korea with better acting chops. Since Lovers in Prague and One Missed Call, he was kinda set apart from his peers as a future star, and he was given the best roles.

Well, put like that, it makes a lot of sense. I always suspected YAB was written as a vehicle for JGS. Or, at least, was inspired by his precocious swoon-worthiness.
And I have to say, though it's early days, he's doing much better job than dear little Yamapi - he of the limpid eyes, the sold-out concerts, and the dedicated fan-service (*daily* blogging, mind you; and always the obliging young man on variety shows). Such a dear, loveable boy. Pity he can't act. One thing he does have in common with JGS, though - they both need to stick to lip-synching!

Very true, and it seems like he is the pre-determined Hallyu lead star for the next generation. Mind you, he is only 22 years old right now. He has definitely got a very bright future ahead, with a solid fan base at such a young age.
Apparently he is the highest paid among the korean actors of his age, along side with Moon Geun Young. Ahh, can't wait to see more of him!

I saw the promise of his acting in HwangJini less so in some of his subsequent dramas. As someone pointed out it might be his roles were too old for him but fortunately he has had the opportunity to work with a lot of veterans like Kim Mung Min and Kang Ji Hwan and I'd like to think he will keep improving due to exposure to great actors.
His acting in You're Beautiful has been the standout so far but I can also see the role being tailored made for him as well. What is undeniable is he has a lot of acting chops for his age and he has the thing called charisma something someone who is even more beautiful like Kim Tae Hee is sorely lacking. What sets him apart for me from other actors is his amazing voice. Its very distinctive and masculine and swoon inducing.
Speaking of Moon Geun Young, I've been wanting her to act with Jang Geun Suk for a while and it would be great if they would do something that is modern and in their age group but not dumbed down. It was so refreshing to see Jang Geun Suk do something like Your Beautiful after the quasi-seaguks and older roles.

The big challenge wasn't the character, per se, but the pressure of finally having a lead role and taking up true leadership duties. Also, because JGS has always been a "noona killer" (even back to Nonstop 4), we haven't really seen him in a "normal" K-drama coupling until this show.
"One thing he does have in common with JGS, though – they both need to stick to lip-synching!"

What I like with JGS is he challenges himself. In Hjy I first saw him but I didn't take him seriously. But I changed my mind in HGD. Some people didn't like him here but I think it's mostly because of the character who was different of KJW character. And JGS acting was great here.
