Why does a classic Korean movie have to be in English? Just because it has American creditors? How insular in thought!

And I guess Tang Wei is still pretty much toxic asset in HK/mainland China if she is being cast in a Korean (-American) movie? And is this going to be another Memoirs of Geisha type of casting with anyone "East Asian" cast as any nationality? Is there no Korean actress who can fit this classic Korean movie role?

Tang Wei was amazing in Lust, Caution. I hope they cast her. Hyun Bin is not the greatest actor as far as I am concerned but then I have just watched MNIKSS with him. Tried to watch World Within but just couldn't get into it. Song Hye Kyo is very pretty but she leaves me cold. For a couple who fell in love during filming they didn't seem to have any chemistry. One scene where he's carrying her (she' straddling him) looked so hilarious. She looked like a baby panda because she's so tiny. Her legs looked so short . The director should have used another angle. It was badly done. Not sexy at all.

I'm with you on Tang Wei; she was fantastic in Lust, Caution and it's a shame that her career has suffered since (I do wonder why no Korean actress for this film, though). But we part ways on Hyun Bin, I'm afraid! ;-)

I think he's a great actor and getting better all the time. I'm watching Friend, Our Legend right now and he is KILLING it. So much so that it's really hard to watch.

I think I'm in the minority but I really liked World Within; did you make it to the door scene? It's amazing, and heartbreaking.

I just watched a few episodes of World Within so maybe I am not in a position to judge. I will give it another try and look out for the door scene. I saw the Jang Dong Gun's Legend and I haven't watched the drama version out of loyalty to JDG. LOL.

Yes, TW has that old world elegance like Ang Lee said and I really feel bad that she got a lot of flak for LC. She was very courageous to do LC. I consider LC Ang Lee's best work so far.

If Hyun Bin's English is the same as it was in My Name is Kim Sam Soon then it's pretty rough. It's not awful but it's not great. I'll keep tabs on this though I like Hyun Bin.

Binnie's English in Snow Queen was still pretty laughable. Hopefully he's a fast learner and has a fantastic teacher, otherwise I'm worried.

On the plus side, though, Binnie on the American big screen? Yes please. :D

I love Hyun Bin, I guess he had no luck with the last 2 series. I agree that he and his girlfriend has no chemistry at all in The world...I watched the drama just for him, I didn't like her role, I don't see why a guy would fall for a girl like that...

He did a great job on Friend, Our legend, I didn't love the drama, just watched it for him and Seo Do Young...let's say I'm a VERY supporting fan jajajaja! Can't help to love those two "papitos" as we say in Puerto Rico!

I also agree that the film should be in Korean, I mean, making them speak a foreign language may diminish their acting skill since they may be concern about the pronunciation or accent. That, in my opinion is a mistake. Let see how it ends...

Gee, I hope he does a good job. I really hope he doesn't screw up, otherwise people might be distracted by his rather strong fobby accent and forgetting to use articles, both indefinite and definite. I remember Snow Queen... and him calling some korean / LA nal-la-lee rich boy a "yankee"... cringe-worthy..

that said, Binnie rocked in Friend Our Legend.

I wish this wasn't being done in English. Hyun Bin had to speak one or two lines in English in a short scene in Snow Queen, and it was AWFUL. I love him as an actor, but if that line wasn't subbed, I could never have made out what he had said.

Sweet! I live in Seattle too! I might just have to find out where they are filming and poke around... (Any films that are said to be filmed in Seattle turn out to be filmed far far away from Seattle xD) I really don't get why they want to film it in the United States if it's a Korean Classic. I mean Washington and Korea are not very similar xD

I'm really curious to see how they are going to remake it (and i love watching movies filmed in washington because im like. OOOH IVE BEEN THERE XD) and i am curious to see how they will change to be modern, american and located in Seattle rather than Korea.

And why are they beginning filming in the worst months... November and December are AWFUL months to film. We get icy rain all day for like every day or we get snow. Last year from December 12? to December 26th we had a good foot of snow on the ground... And when it snows.... EVERYTHING STOPS. (Schools close for one or two inches of snow, too many hills to drive... it fails ) xD

I'm not too interested in the film, i'm just excited it's being filmed in Seattle. xD

His English..........yeah definitely needs some work.

Actually Sonam, if u loved the movie, the drama upped it with the writing. It's so apparent with PD Kwak's acclaim, he had the artistic free reign, all the time in the world, the budget and the confidence (and talent) of a master, so much so he basically could do whatever he wanted to with no bars held with glorious result, just some minor snags with the most 'loved' MBC's censoring. It's effectively shown in every single frame of the drama. Again I understand the loyalty, but JDG is binnie's boss and he was the one who urged him to do it. Ur sentiments towards HB aside, (mine as well), I honestly think the drama version elaborated on the movie, filled it out at all the right spot. Yes, I still wished the females were given an equivalent, terrific treatment in writing as the guys, but they were almost nonexistent in the movie, so that was already an improvement itself.

Tang Wei was amazing in LC and she was terrific even in some older crappy Chinese soap I saw her in as a bad girl. She is gutsy and passionate about her craft underneath that mellow facade of hers. For me she has the exactly right balance of international acclaim, talent and respect unfazed by all that political poop she's been through, yet not as loud/overpowering and overrated as some of her Chinese peers. She's legally an HKer, so the mainland pressures should play less a factor with such an international project considering. But then, on the business side of things, I'm not optimistic she'll get the role even if she wants it. Mainland is so here to prove with Tang Wei that the party can break any one individual, no one is irreplaceable under the iron fist still.

I love Hyun Bin, but I agree with everyone else that his English is really bad. First in MNIKSS and then in Snow Queen. In Snow Queen, his character's English was supposed to be fluent, but I didn't know what he was saying. I had to repeat the line several times to get the part about "yankees." LOL. I don't know how quickly he can pick up the English accent, but he did a great job picking up the Korean dialect in Friends. We'll see.

I love Hyun Bin (Friend and Worlds Within are two of my most favorite dramas) but if he can speak undertandable English, it's news to me - his English in Snow Queen was not really comprehensible.

This aside, the movie sounds wonderful and I love Tang Wei, she is an amazing actress (Lust Caution was a brutally hard to watch experience but one of the best movies I've ever seen).

Personally, I wish he would alternate doing serious roles and rom-coms. As an actor, I'm sure he would like to stretch himself (by taking these serious roles) and not be typecast. I tried to watch "Friend, The Untold Story" but it was just too dark and depressing. After a stressful day at work, I want to come home and watch something fun and uplifting......so to please everyone, an occasional rom-com would be great starring Hyun Bin.

As far as his English....... I wasn't impressed with it in MNKSS. It'll take a lot of work for him to come across as being fluent in English.

Hehe...I remember my grandpa or my mom has a copy of the book or magazine reported about this film. Interesting....guess just need to meditate to regain my earliest memory related to this film. When my mind is calm and still, I am quite sure I can recall it better......:P
