Jung Ryeo Won was born to do TV. Like cast her as "Catherine Park" or "Grace Kim" (haha, really) playing a graduate student, medical scrub, or photographer.

I think i liked her best in hello Franceska.

I'm looking forward to watching Jung Ryeo-Won in the film Castaway on the Moon at the Vancouver film festival this weekend.

It looks very whacky and quirky.

I really liked her in Sam Soon, and agree that her English gives her a strong advantage. It's the best I've heard and she doesn't have a strong accent - I can actually understand her without focusing 110%. I don't know what it is but I agree with your comment about her feeling more Western than Korean.

I also love how free and comfortable she looks in all of the photos I've seen of her as well - she looks a bit emaciated in some photos but generally she looks gorgeous and natural, emitting pretty-girl-next-door vibes.

i really agree with JB on this one. i think jung ryeo-won seems like she has a western vibe and would do well acting in western films/shows. good luck to her!

@9, I thought that Lee Byung-hun did a pretty good job as Storm Shadow though. His English was decent and his eyes were so expressive.

I was not a fan of her in Kim Sam Soon but she blew me away in Castaway on the Moon. She was cute, a little bit scary, and totally hilarious (BTW, that is one of the best Korean movies to come out in a loooong time).

Unlike Daniel Henney's Three Rivers, I might actually watch a TV show or film if she were cast in it.

Good for her. She has a chance to enter an industry that allows the actors to eat ( a bit more). Honestly, no matter how talented and pretty she is I couldn't bear to watch her being so skinny.

@nell123: i think she is gaining back her weight. her last movie had her dieting till the point of anxiety. but her recent pictures showed she is getting back her weight. though it's still away from her kim sam soon days...but yeah, hopefully she'll be back in normal weight.

though i havent seen her dramas at all but a short clip of her and mr. henney in MNIKSS and some parts of JMG, i agree she does have a bit of that western vibe.

she already has that english foundation and she's a good actress, imo. and uh, she kisses well in her scenes, compared to other stiff kisses actresses tend to give. so, all the best to her! :)

just dont give her a medusa hair look and whitewashed marble makeup. she looked totally un-her in the unfortunate picture taken last time during the screening of some movie. :(

Actually, she was too skinny during KSS too. You gotta go back to Chakra before JRW looked like she was "normal" weight.

Her accent was SO CUTE during MNIKSS. In fact, her coupling with Daniel Henney was the only good part of that drama.

I wholeheartedly agree that mastering English is a HUGE part of breaking into the Hollywood market. Jackie Chan was able to do Hollywood movies because he had something else to offer. . . .great stunts. Yeah, his English sucks but you don't really watch his movies for the dialogue. Unless Korean actors have something else to offer (and not good looks, because there's a lot of that in the US already), then they aren't going to succeed.

EXAMPLE: My friends and I saw the trailer for Ninja Assasin with Rain. The trailer was cool, perfect, special effects awesome. Rain didn't say ONE WORD. . . until the very end of the trailer and then my friends (who don't watch dramas) immediately went, "Wait, what the fuck did he just say??"

So. . .that'll be interesting to see how that turns out.

Oh, I've said this for years. Jung Ryeo Won is in the wrong entertainment industry. She has what we Westerners have and domestic Asians don't -- a sense of irony and the "okay, you're such a dork!!" sarcasm. The way she rolls her eyes, her forthright directness, the way she does selca.

She's basically an Australian who lives in Korea, and if she seems to act "superior" or rude in programs, it's mostly cultural. She (like most gyopos) had difficulties in the K-ent industry. Her Korean was essentially grade-school level when she came back to Korea. She didn't really follow up on that much pop culture in Korea, and so she was also outdated with people her age. She had a hard time adjusting to business culture here, as she herself didn't have to deal with the honorific hierarchy day-to-day in Australia.

If she were to do American TV, she'll fit just right in. Her English is right about where you'd expect somebody who came from Korea in junior high would be. Her consonants are fine, but she has a lot of up-and-down inflections in her vowels. Brother's wife is like that too.

I love JRW, because her vibe is a lot like my old friends. I can actually relate to her -- she's practically a homegirl. :D And people forget -- Jung Ryeo Won is also a true fashionista in the Western sense. VERY outspoken in terms of fashion and all that.

Yeah, you tend to lose it a bit when you've lived in another country. English is virtually a first language for Eugene.

The first (and best, in my opinion) time that I saw Jeong Ryeo Won was as when a channel surfing wave had me crashing onto the shores of a series called, "Which Star Are You From." As the pig-tailed, country girl in the big city, Ryeo Won (as Kim Bokshil) me over with her talents and charm. Through MNIKSS, Hello! Franceska, her sadly shortened period drama, all of her other appearences, she has never failed to pique my interest and pay back that patronage with interest. As natural and appealing as any actress/talent in the business, if anyone can burst through the doors and become the first hallyu star in the U.S., it is she. As her former co-star Daniel Henney now leads his first series, can his much greater talented, former drama girlfirend be far behind? Best of luck to JRW. Maybe Henny could rekindle their onscreen romance by throwing her name out in one of his production meetings...

P.S. To belleza: Eugene has noticed her English is becoming accented as well. She's working hard at it by holding her conversations in English for her upcoming series. I hope that she can come through to escape the critism. For me, any Eugene is good Eugene.

If she does enter hollywood i hope she joins a tv show. Maybe a genre like one tree hill or something? that would be great.
