Character posters for fantasy-action film Jeon Woo Chi
by javabeans
A whole slew of (lovely!) character posters has been released for Kang Dong-won and Im Soo-jung‘s upcoming fantasy-hero film Jeon Woo Chi [전우치]. Directed by Tazza‘s Choi Dong-hoon, the movie has attracted buzz for its solid cast and its blockbuster-level budget of 10 billion won. The cast includes Kim Yoon-seok (The Chaser), Yoo Hae-jin (Public Enemy Returns), Yeom Jung-ah (Working Mom), and Baek Yoon-shik (the upcomingHero). (Incidentally, Im Soo-jung and Yeom Jung-ah have worked together before, with the latter playing Im’s crazy stepmother in Tale of Two Sisters.)
The story stars Kang Dong-won as reckless and mischievous Jeon Woo Chi, a Joseon-era Taoist wizard who becomes imprisoned in a scroll after being wrongfully accused of a crime. The seal is broken some 500 years later in contemporary Korea, reviving the classic “Tale of Jeon Woo Chi” in modern times, as he is poised to become a superhero in this new world plagued by monsters. Too bad that the lively Jeon Woo Chi is more interested in women and his poetic sensibilities than in practicing his prodigious talents in Taoist magic.
Kim Yoon-seok plays his rival, a man whose virtuous scholar facade hides his evil ambitions, while Im Soo-jung is a “femme fatale stylist” who dreams of being an actress whose rival is Yeom Jung-ah’s top star character. Jeon Woo Chi’s chatty friend and sidekick is played by Yoo Hae-jin; his teacher and fellow Taoist wiz is played by Baek Yoon-shik. The action movie is said to resemble the tone of the Ocean’s Eleven series.
Jeon Woo Chi releases on December 23 and will be one of our last chances to see Kang Dong-won before he heads off to military service. (He filmed one more after this one, the thriller Sworn Brothers with Song Kang-ho.)

Fantasy fusion movie with monsters in modern society... reminds me of Godzilla.... except that the introduction of taoist magicians make me think of HGD's mentor Hye-Myung... hmm, but Kang Dong-won is a young lad... so maybe this is Godzilla meets Hong Gil Dong, the movie?

oooh I love films with Taoist wizards. A Chinese Ghost Story with legend Leslie Cheung and Green Snake with the glorious Maggie Cheung were magic. I can totally see KDW as a mischievous wizard. I'd take Taoist wizards over Harry Potter wizards any day. KDW makes a very dashing wizard in the first poster. He is tall lean and strong like Lee Jun Ki. Come to think of it LJK would make a great wizard.

This looks REALLY interesting! But OMG, Im Soo Jung is unrecognisable to me. This sucks because she has like the most amazing, fascinating face ever.

I agree with most of the people here. The first poster is too Hong Gil Dong-like. But that's pulling me even more to wait for this movie. And yeah, Im Soo Jung...what happened to her? Did she have something done on her face or was that just the make-up and lighting? I sure hope it's just the latter. She's really pretty as she is. No need to go under the knife.

I feel like this movie had been in the works since forever and we have yet to see a trailer or teaser. Even Jang Dong-gun movie was out and about in a few months. I guess it's the CGI editing that needs more work? I'm really exciting for this.
Another one of my favorites is serving his country soon. :(

If I get one more so-called "femme fatale" from Korean entertainment, I'm going to scream. I'm sorry but can anyone recommend to me a recent movie from Korean cinema that features a fascinating, kickass female character that's on par with all her male counterparts?

Something is not right with the photography. Everybody looked old and haggard! Must be due to the grim and dark background! Even the red dress doesn't look bright. This must be the most unflattering pix of KDW.
I have been waiting for this movie since end 2008 and probably get to watch it only in 2010! Sigh.

I hope this won't be anything like 'The Accidental Gangster and the Mistaken Courtesan'. Because seeing Kang Dong Won again makes me happy! =)
