Kang Dong-won’s Sworn Brothers wraps filming
by javabeans
As a 1981-er, Kang Dong-won (Maundy Thursday) will have to enlist in his mandatory military service by the end of this year, which means that his most recent film, Sworn Brothers [의형제], will be his last. (He has another film still to come out, the fantasy-action movie Jeon Woo Chi, but that has already completed filming and will be released later this year.)
The action thriller stars Kang opposite top actor Song Kang-ho (Thirst) — and if the casting weren’t enough to grab your interest, it’s also directed by Jang Hoon, who filmed the So Ji-sub–Kang Ji-hwan action film Rough Cut. After four months of filming, Sworn Brothers finished its final shoot last week at Incheon International Airport.
In the film, Song Kang-ho is a former intelligence agent (“Han-kyu”) who was kicked out of his job six years ago following a suspicious event that unfolded in the heart of Seoul. Facing a similar situation north of the border, Kang Dong-won plays “Ji-won,” a North Korean spy who has also been cast out from his job, whose personality is described as cold on the outside, warm on the inside. The film explores the story of these two as they keep their former identities as enemies a secret from one another.
After director Jang sounded the final okay on set on its last shooting day, Song Kang-ho said, “The past summer was devoted to Sworn Brothers. I hope that audiences will enjoy our movie.” Kang Dong-won said, “Everyone worked extremely hard filming this movie. We’re fortunate to have filmed for four months safely without any accidents. I hope that the result is as strong as our efforts in shooting the film.”
Sworn Brothers now heads into post-production, and aims for an early 2010 release.

You know I've heard such great things about Kang Dong-won's acting in his movies especially for Dualist...and I probably should watch something other than 1% of Anything before I guess I can really judge him as an actor.
But the movies sounds really interesting! Though besides wanting to something that shows KDW's acting chops, it has Song Kang-ho! And Rough Cut is on my movie wating list (I just need to find a good copy w/ subtitles somewhere).

If you really wanna have a taste of KDW's acting, you must watch Duelist and Maundy Thursday/Our Happy Time. And probably Voice of A Murderer too (altho they only featured his voice in there). Thought those movies really showcased KDW's intensity and raw talent as an actor.. and that he's not just a pretty face.
That aside, can't wait until the release of this movie! Song Kang Ho's great, and KDW's dear to my heart... definitely not to be missed!

i lovelovelove this man and maundy thursday is one of my favourite korean movies. but man, temptation of wolves has to be one of the worst movies i've ever seen. and i've seen a lot of really terrible movies.
anyway, i'm glad he got out of that phase in his career and is now trying to make quality movies that showcase more than his face. although i wouldn't mind that too much. why else did i force myself to watch all of temptation of wolves?
check out M, Dualist and Voice of a Murderer as well.

I like both KDW and SKH but I don't know about this movie... the plot doesn't sound very interesting. I can't wait until Jeon Woo Chi comes out though. I've been waiting for it since I first heard about it last year.

Whoohooo! I can't wait to see this. I became a huge fan of Kang Dong-won after seeing Maundy Thursday, which to this day is still one of my favorite Korean films. It made me bawl like a baby. I totally agree with momo though, Temptation of Wolves, which I saw after Maundy Thursday, was a huge disappointment, given that there was so much hype around it. The love story was really weak, you couldn't see why the guys were so obessed with the girl, and there just had to be an overused "falling in love with your sister" / terminal illness storyline. Had I known the premise of that movie, I would of stayed away from it. But that does not take away KDW's yumminess in the movie, LOL.
Anyway, KDW is putting out very few things out there for his fans as it is, we'll all miss him dearly when he goes to do his military service.

Kang Dong-won is good actor. I did see him in The Duelist but didn't like the movie that much.
But it's Song Kang-ho! So the movie is a must see for me. ( :

OMG Rough Cut was so bad.
I've only ever seen this actor in 1% Of Anything and he was adorable in it (even though the rest of the drama was blah) so . . . yeah, looking forward to watching him in something I like.
