Su Ae and Jo Seung-woo are lovers in “Like Fireworks”
by javabeans
The movie Like Fireworks, Like a Butterfly [불꽃처럼 나비처럼] has settled on a premiere date, even though one of its stars, Jo Seung-woo, will still be serving his military service when it releases for the upcoming Chuseok fall harvest holiday.
The film is set in the late Joseon era and follows the political affairs of Empress Myeongseong — a figure often portrayed in film — as she seeks to protect her country. She is described as “the woman everybody knows about, but nobody really knew.” The film focuses on how prior to becoming empress she was Min Ja-young, a woman who loved one man, a soldier/bodyguard — their love is “hot like fireworks, and pure like a butterfly.”
This was the last project Jo filmed prior to enlisting last year, and had been in production for the past three years. Directing is Kim Yong-kyun, who also directed 2006’s Boys of Tomorrow. Despite the somewhat vague description, I think this could be a pretty compelling film, as far as I can tell…

This is really funny...I just watched Su Ae's Once in a Summer for the second time and was so impressed by her talent and I was wondering when she'd be back with another hit?...I go to Dramabeans and there it is . ^^
Would watch every role she plays...she's a true talent and although period films are somehow confusing to me since I know nothing about the Korean culture or history, I still look forward to it.

thank you for this post. I really like her as an actress, only seen her once in 9end2outs. I think she's one of the same calibre as Im So-jung, and Son Ye-jin. Pretty women that CAN ACT!
The male lead is good looking. Was he Kang Hye-jung's ex-bf?
Anyone have any suggestions on her previous work that i should check out?
oh, once in a summer? I'll check that out. thanks #3!

@5 mzpakipot - SA is the Queen of Tears - love her in The Emperor of the Sea - her ancient look is very elegant. Handsome guy JSW - just from the photo still, he has a modern look. Looks like a lovely pair on screen.

I just finished 9 end 2 outs yesterday and loved it, especially the chemistry between Su Ae and Lee Jung Jin. Su Ae has so much talent. I also want to see her older work.

Interesting couple. I loved Cho Seung-Woo in all of his movies, including the underwhelming Love Phobia! Su Ae always cries so prettily that I will definitely be watching out for this. Both are talented actors, so I have high expectations.

Wow, it certainly looks good from those stills alone! Is this the same soldier that was depicted in the drama Empress Myeongseong? The one who sacrificed himself for her at the end? In that depiction, he was the one with the one-sided crush on her, and she was unaware of it, at least for much of the time.
Either way, I usually avoid movies, but I think I might catch this. I've liked Soo Ae ever since I saw her in 9 End 2 Outs and Hae Shin. She looks so elegant in period dress. Sounds like it could be a good movie.

I've always wanted to see SA's film "Wedding Campaign" (co-starring the excellent Jeong Jae-yeong), but just haven't gotten around to it.
