Theater audiences make it a blue White Day
by javabeans
Kwon Sang-woo‘s latest flick, tearjerker romance More Than Blue [슬픔보다 더 슬픈 이야기], enjoyed a strong White Day showing in theaters; its opening weekend sold more than 200,000 tickets — 147,000 of them on White Day alone. Pretty good for a single day’s take.
Wild horses couldn’t drag me to such an overindulgence of weepie angst — I can have my own pity parties at home, thankyouverymuch! — but I admit from the stills and previews that the film does look very pretty.
The movie has taken on a new English name (good move), after posters and promo material initially gave the Engrish tagline “Sad Story Than Sadness.” (The literal translation, since I refused to call it that, was Story Sadder Than Sadness.) The movie now has been relabeled the more elegant More Than Blue (though it cracks me up that the film’s official website URL is “sadsadlove.com“). Are you sensing the story’s theme here?
More Than Blue opened on Wednesday, March 11, and sold 25,000 tickets on its first day. That number climbed to 47,000 on its second day, and rose sharply over the weekend, doing particularly well on White Day. Guess those couples like to indulge in tragic romances.
The movie, which also stars Lee Bo-young (Queen of the Game) and Lee Beom-soo (On Air), garnered a little extra attention for being the feature film debut for director Won Tae-yeon, as well as being Kwon Sang-woo’s first acting role post-marriage. Kwon follows this project with next month’s MBC drama series Cinderella Man.

lol, wow, even their eyes are all red and teary in the movie poster XD
really, the ppl in charge of promoting this movie are making it unintentionally funny. they're taking this "sadness" thing too far...

I couldn't agree more with bambooshoots. Instead of making me sad , it felt a bit like overkill. Just how sad is this movie supposed to be? There is nothing tragic that hasn't been done in Korean dramas before already (as far as I can imagine).

What a strange movie to watch on White Day! I would seriously doubt my significant other's intention taking me to watch something like this......what are you hinting at buddy? :P

What in the world is the plot of this movie? Could it possibly be so sad that all three characters on the poster must look like they're about to burst into tears?

more than blue sounds so much better than sadness sadder sad sad. i mean. even the korean name didn't sound so cheesy. more than blue sounds like a jazz film or a dancing film..hehe. but i won't watch this movie. this is overkill.

I'm surprise they didn't change it to "More Than Sadness"... they seem to be fixated on the word sad or sadness a whole lot..
@3: Completely agree, what a weird choice of movie to watch on White Day... unless the message is: let's love each more & cherish every moment because our life is SO much better than theirs... lol

Ugh, I might have to watch it just because of the Engrish-ness. Good times.
Also, I find it hilarious that an ice cream truck drove by just as I was reading this post. Such cheery music to go along with such a..er..SAD story. XD

@ 6 (Jo)
Quoting Javabeans:
"Speaking of which, Happy (early) White Day! As you may know, White Day falls on March 14, a month after Valentine’s Day — while girls give chocolate on Valentine’s, White Day is the guys’ turn to reciprocate. "
I'd seriously prefer a romantic comedy.
LOL @ Greenfreak and Cosmopolite. =D

@ 3 and 9 : LOL!!!! i totally agree!! or, unless my boyfriend is secretly gay and is dying to see KSW!!!
@5: HAHAHAHA!!! or one of the guys took out the battery from his cellphone (yup, not just turning it off, i might say!) while drinking and crying himself to sadder than sadness, so that the girl couldnt reach him to tell him " saranghae", thus, thinking he deserted her, decided to go to the other guy....LOL!!! am sure one of the two guys is terminally ill! or probably got hit by a car while walking and crying himself to sadder than sadness.....

i didn't care much about this movie, since it seemed like a total typical love story. but then i was watching showbiz extra on arirang channel & they featured the movie; & i actually want to see it now. i was already sad just from the preview they were showing. movie's different from what i had imagined.
yes, ksw has cancer but pass that, the story just gets started from there... which's why it's attracting me to see it.

*Gah* Sang woo-oppa should re-think about his sad sad sad image
I'm bored already!!
Why don't he tried something (read: drama series) light and no brainer and NOT tearjerker? It's as if everytime I saw him the image is either tragic or fighter

I'd totally go see this on White Day!
I love sad romantic movies. Even if they are cheesy..
Sometimes a good cry is needed.
Anyways, I really wanna see this movie now..
It looks like a good tragedy.

@MissKaNia,
Have't seen the comedy My Tutor Friend? That's Kwon Sang Woo's most popular role.
Reading through some of the news, it looks like the shoot may have been rocky between Lee Bo Young and the cast.
