Sung Yuri’s film debut
by javabeans
Former singer turned actress Sung Yuri (Hong Gil Dong, Snow Queen) is taking the next leap in her acting career: movies.
She’ll be toplining the film Rabbit and Lizard (working title), directed by Joo Ji-hong. Her character May is an adoptee who returns to Korea for the first time in 23 years to find her roots.
Sung said of her big-screen debut, “Since it’s my first time trying a movie, I’m nervous and excited.” After reading the script, she had felt such a desire to portray this character that she made an eager appeal for the part.
The film is scheduled to begin production in February; meanwhile, she’s also slated for the weekend drama series unofficially called “All In 2,” aka SBS’s Swallow the Sun, alongside Ji Sung (New Heart) and Lee Wan (Insoon is Pretty), which will air in June.

Uh...maybe she'll get minimal dialogue or act as if her Korean isn't very good (which I'm not sure she can pull off, considering her acting caliber). Otherwise, can't picture how she's going to pull the adoptee role off. If you're going to tell me she's going to be speaking Engleeesh...even better...

Yuri is sooo pretty!! I always loved her since her FinKl days. I can't wait to see all her new projects. I have seen her speak English in "Prince's First Love", and her accent was actually really cute...lol Sung Yuri fight!!

I would assume they'd actually hire an actress like JRW for that kind of role, I mean to play someone who's totally immersed in another culture? I don't see it.

with her mediocre acting and fobbish english...i dunno man...=T
I know she's originally from the states but it's like she never learned to speak english properly cuz she sounds just like any other korean in Korea trying to speak english.

9 Being adopted doesnt mean she doesnt know Korean :/

If anyone has walked into Koreatown LA, theres hundreds of Koreans born/raised in in America yet can speak Korean even if they havent been to Korea.
So, even if her character hasnt been to Korea, we dont really know for sure if she can speak Korean or not.

To Being adopted doesnt mean she doesnt know Korean :/ :
Yeah, but how many of those in that community are adopted? And those of us Koreans who have been born and/or raised into a different culture, most likely have Korean parents that passed along some, if not huge, influences of heritage onto their children. Like Anonymous said, being adopted most likely means she was immersed into a culture other than that of Korea. For 23 years at that.
I think Sung Yuri has come some ways since her acting debut. She wasn't terrible in Thousand Years of Love. She was terrible in Snow Queen. Maybe she just couldn't pull off the Terminally Sick-Rich-Bitch-I've Got Issues-So Bite Me-Hyun Bin's gonna melt my heart role. But she did pretty well in Hong Gil Dong. I just can't see her pulling off the adoptee role. If she does, then I'll be the first to appraise her for her acting progress.

Snow Queen introduced me to her, she's one of Korea's prettiest actresses to me (not sure how much of it is natural though) but her acting in Snow Queen was appalling. She had only two expressions thru out - sad and sad
But she made her breakthru with Yinok's c'ter in HGD. She owned that ditzy c'ter !
Good luck with her movie debut

She's beautiful. I love her. I don't care what others think about her acting skills. Just watching her on screen is a treat.

In response to number 9 but how many of those Korean adoptees actually walk around in Koreatown in LA? Most of these kids are second-generation or first generation Korean immigrants or have parents who are.
We're talking about adoptees... I actually have FIRST HAND experiences with this because a number of people I am close to are like that. Mostly, raised by white parents or American born parents. These kids are born and bred somewhere un-Korean.
It is fairly common though that at one point they trace back their roots, one of my friends is a Korean adoptee. Does not speak a lick of Korean, yet she tries to find her bio-parents by the time she's 21. This could actually be her story lol.
I would imagine someone who speaks English well and has depth in her performance like JRW would've been perfect for such an important issue kind of storyline.

She could have been adopted by Korean parents.

sorry, but that doesn't make sense either...she wouldn't really find the need to find her korean heritage...since she was already raised in that setting
