BFFs Hyo-jin and Doo-na
by javabeans
Gong + Bae = Best friends 4-eva!
Bae Doo-na and Gong Hyo-jin, both known for their eclectic and fashion-forward style senses as well as their film and drama roles over the years, are also good pals and have been for the past decade. Now they’re showing their friendship in — what else? — a magazine photo spread.
The shoot for Nylon Korea magazine based itself on the concept “friendly neighbors,” which isn’t such a stretch given that the two actresses live in the same neighborhood and are neighbors in real life. As friends, they hang out, eat, shop, and listen to music together. They’ve also already displayed candid and self-shot pics of themselves together on their respective mini-homepages (see below).
Both debuted as models back in 1998, and it’s interesting to see how their careers have developed on somewhat parallel upward tracts. Among other roles, Bae Doo-na acted in 1999’s The Ring Virus, Take Care of My Cat (2001), Park Chan-wook’s Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, 2003 drama Country Princess, and hit it big(ger) with 2006’s The Host. Her latest project was the SBS drama How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor last summer.
Gong Hyo-jin started off in 1999’s Memento Mori, went on to 2001’s Volcano High and Emergency Measure 19 in 2002. She made a name for heself in the 2002 MBC drama Ruler of Your Own World, then went on to act with Rain in Sangdoo, Let’s Go To School (2003), with Gong Yoo in Hello My Teacher (2005), and with Jang Hyuk in last year’s lauded Thank You; her most recent project is comedy flick Crush and Blush co-starring Lee Jong-hyuk, which releases October 16.
The photo spread will be printed in Nylon’s October issue.

Really? They're good friends? It's great to know, coz I love 'em both. =) Bae Doona is a very brave and versatile actress. I loved her best in 'Take Care of My Cat'. Gong Hyo Jin won me over in "Ruler of Your Own World'. When I first saw her, the thought that crossed my mind was "she's really not pretty but there's something about her....hmmm". You simply cannot *not* care about her character. Her acting is always so honest and real. Heck, both Bae and Gong are probably cut from the same cloth...not really drop dead gorgeous but more down-to-earth, 'what-you-see-is-what-you-get' type of actresses.

I don't know much about Doona, other than seeing her in The Host, but Gong Hyo Jin is a big favorite of mine. She wins you over with her sincerity and a beauty that oozes from her internally. Maybe not "love at first sight" but the kind that makes you feel warmer for seeing her bravely overcome challenges with dignity and compassion. I hope she's like that in real life, cuz she's the kind of woman most of us are searching for. And we all need to believe that our dreams can come true.

I love both of them, as actors and as people, but I'm a bigger fan of Bae Doo Na. Better acting, better projects and better ex-boyfriend. (Or is Gong Hyo Jin back together with Ryu Seung Bum?) Bae Doo Na and Shin Ha Gyun!! Now that's a celebrity couple worth posting about.
Felicity, that movie would be Saving My Hubby. I'll also join in on the LINDA! LINDA! LINDA! chanting. What a great movie!
The Host is her moneymaker, but Bae Doo Na had so many other great movies and dramas under her belt before that. Her last drama, 완벽한 이웃을 만나는 법, was such a pleaser as well. It was soapy with the mystery plots, but at the same time not your typical K-drama fare. It's charming, comedic and it actually felt like an ensemble drama by relying on the over 30 (and 40) year old supporting characters, whereas in other trendy dramas, secondary characters are shunned and only focus on the love quadrangle.
BTW, here's a fantastic article on Bae Doo Na: WE LOVE BAE DOO-NA (even if Korea doesn't)
Forget Song Hye Gyo and Jun Ji Hyun! If there's any Korean actress I'd want to go global and represent Korea, Bae Doo Na would definitely be on my short list.

I love how Bae Doona didn't get her nose fixed. . It looks very natural. It's not the perfect nose but looks perfect for her face. My first Korean film was Take care of My Cat and since then I have seen all her films except her dramas....I didn't know she did dramas until recently. My fav film of hers is Sympathy for Mr Vengeance. She was terrific and held her own against the two great actors who had bigger roles. She stayed on my mind long after the film ended. She is completely fearless as an actor. Inspiring to see a woman so sure of who she is and what she wants to do.

I'm a fan of GHJ after seeing her in Hello My Teacher (and really, how can you resist Gong Yoo?? Heck, I can't.) I'm not terribly familiar with BDN but heard of "Country Princess" -- any feedback on that drama? Worth watching?

I've been a fan of BDN since I saw her in PlumBlossom with Kim Rae Won. Now that was a brave part for a young actress! Mind you who'd turn down a chance to get up close and personal with KRW!

GONG Hyo-Jin is really amazing.
i first saw her in the drama with rain, and she didn't really register that much to me.
but a korean friend of mine really likes her and it really made me wonder why
and then i watch biscuit teacher and star candy and i fell in love with her. and gong yoo.
i'm not really familiar with Bae Doo-na, but i believe that birds of the same feathers flock together, so i'm pretty sure she's also amazing
