Hong Gil Dong special to air after series ends
by javabeans
As suspected, Hong Gil Dong will follow its final episode on Wednesday (26th) with a special episode to broadcast on Thursday (27th).
The special will be hosted by comedian Jung Hyung Don and announcers Choi Song Hyun and Jeon Hyun Mu, wearing the costumes worn by the three series leads. They’ll talk to actors and share behind-the-scenes talk on the set of Hwal Bin Dang’s headquarters, and answer questions picked from those posted by viewers on the show’s message board. There’ll also be the typical special-episode fare, with replays of best scenes and a collection of NGs (outtakes). The episode has been rather quickly slapped together after an Olympic qualifying baseball game pre-empted the broadcast on the 13th (but in my opinion, these things always feel kind of repetitive anyway, so that’s no big loss).
Next week, Hong Gil Dong relinquishes its timeslot to the drama Three Dads, One Mom starring Eugene, Jo Hyun Jae (who turned down the role of Gil Dong, coincidentally — I think he would’ve been a good pick, although not to the level of Kang Ji Hwan), Jae Hee, and Shin Sung Rok.

I thought Jo Hyun Jae turned down the role of Chang Whe? I'd love it if there's an interview with the Hong sisters. I have not a clue of how they look like :)

Really? I always assumed Jo Hyun Jae had been cast as Gil Dong and Ju Ji Hoon as the cold Chang Whe. I could be wrong -- I hadn't followed HGD news closely until the current cast was announced -- but if I am, can I just say that they had got the casting all backwards and it's a good thing that fell through.

Jo Hyun Jae was indeed suppose to be Chang Whe. and i thought that was such a prefect choice from his past experience in drama like Dameng and 서동요, it was a great pity that it didnt go through . .

Oh, I thought it was the other way around. So Ju Ji Hoon was supposed to be Gil Dong. *raise eyebrows*. Then I'm glad it didn't went through. I don't mind the special at all, actually I love to see the behind-the-scenes, outtakes and stuff.
So, what's your next shot, dramabeans ?

The casting worked out great actually. So I'm not complaining...lol.
But I didn't know he was supposed to be cast in HGD. Interesting....well I'm glad to be able to watch him in "3 Dads, 1 Mom" then.
I hope "3 Dads, 1 Mom" turns out well...don't let me dooown. :p

I wish Jo Hyun Jae had more faith and didn't back out. I would have rooted much more for the prince then.

Actually, I read too that Joo Ji Hoon was supposed to HGD. Which would NOT have worked.....I think he turned it down just before shooting because they weren't offering him enough. But Jo Hyun Jae wouldn't have done badly as Chang Whe...Pity he left after Joo Ji Hoon bailed out.
I love specials, really. NGs are hilarious. ^^ This one seems like it was slapped together, but hopefully isn't too bad.

Fortunately they backed out.....I thought I am destined to be a fan of Hong GIl Dong... At first, when my mom bought a DVD of, I was so angry because I also want to by DVD but not Hong Gil Dong... When my mom watched it, she transfered to my bed because she can't read the translations when she's lying on her bed, I woke up and cannot go back to sleep again...The first episode I watched was when the Chief of the Thieves died....From then on, I was hooked!!! Kang Ji- hwan was very excellent in playing the role of Hong Gil Dong... I loved his romantic and comedy scenes with Sung Yuri... My most favorite scenes are when Enok told Gil Dong that its alright to cry, when Enok cried badly when she knew that Gil Dong died, when Enok and Gil Dong met again (SIR MOONLIGHT BLACK HAT), and the all their comedic with touch of romance scenes!!!

i personally feel that jo hyun jae would have been a bad match for hong gil dong. his facial expressions aren't as varying as kang ji hwan. gil dong needs to look confident, sly, sad, happy, etc. at multiple times, and i think that jo hyun jae wouldn't be able to do that. :/ well, based on the dramas that i've seen him in. he's always just serious and sad, with an occasional smile. he doesn't have that playful look to him.

Hi, can you tell me more about Choi Song Hyun? We were roommates in Canada in 2003 and it was a big surprise she is now into the entertainment business. Thanks!!

So glad Jo Hyun Jae bailed out of Hong Gil Dong!!! Don't like HGD, the most mediocre drama to come out of the brains of the Hong sisters.
And please, Jo Hyun Jae not being in the same level of KJH!!! Oh please, it is the other way around. KJH will never reach Jo Hyun Jae's level of performance, IMHO!!!
