Han Ji Hye graduates to “romance queen”
by javabeans
Actress Han Ji Hye returns to the big screen in the upcoming dramatic love story Humming as a mature, pure-hearted “romance queen” — the kind of woman with a deep love for “only one man” who must prepare for their separation.
Her recent projects have mostly been in television dramas — she’s currently in the KBS daily drama Ugly or Beautiful [Miuna, gouna] — and this’ll mark her first film since she acted with now-ex-boyfriend Lee Dong Gun in the 2005 romantic comedy My Boyfriend is Type B.
In Humming, she stars with Lee Chun Hee, as a devoted-in-love character, and describes the film as “a heart-breaking love story and a mysterious fantasy [that] are brought together in a fresh way to move hearts.”
The article — which reads like a press release — promises that “all of Korea’s women will sympathize with Han Ji Hye’s character, who falls deeply in love in this perfect romance.”
The movie opens in time for White Day on March 13 and, I dunno about you, but for me it contains every element I heartily dislike in a film. Overly earnest once-in-a-lifetime love story? Yep. Implied death by cancer or other tragically trite plot device? All signs point to yes. No plot to speak of (merely placeholder descriptors like “moving” and “deep” and “heartbreaking”)? Oh yeah.

Yeah I admit the pictures are good but based only on what they said it feels like it's gonna be another soap movie and "it contains every element I heartily dislike in a film" as well for me.
Looks awfully plain... But we never know... I do really like Han Ji Hye's cute face so I might give it a try. I mean I always surprise myself smiling like an idiot whenever she smiles ^^.... But if I hear the guy's gonna die from cancer or can't be with her because of HIV I won't waste my time.
EDIT: Must be the first time I'm the first. It does deserve an edit haha.

This does not look promising. Probably won't bother. Thanks for the warning.

well, i guess they're running out of stories. all of the good plots are already taken or were already played out. we hve a lot of great n good looking actors but not enough addicting or unpredictable script.

The worse part about it all is that since America has been buying off the rights to remake Asian movies, we're getting the same repetitive stories that I've already seen before.
Also, and I know this is totally random but I'm dying to get this straight, what is the exact difference between a Korean daily drama and a prime time drama?

Considering how this movie was supposed to be out last October, I completely understand javabean's reservations. I'm only interested in this movie for whatever role Lee Min Ki has a part in, and it should be vastly different from his previous roles, just from the way he's dressed.
I'll just hope someone will be able to provide clips/pics of Lee Min Ki from this movie, as he does have a small role (he wears glasses here).

alynizzle: Ha, or Hollywood rips them off without credit (ahem, Juno).
And a daily drama airs, well, daily; the prime-time dramas air twice a week (Sat-Sun, Mon-Tues, or Wed-Thurs). They also occupy different timeslots -- daily dramas air earlier in the evening, and are therefore generally more family-friendly. There are also daily morning dramas, but those are referred to more commonly as morning dramas and not daily dramas, and Friday dramas, which tend to have a more melodramatic bent.

Juno is not a remake. Juno was a Roman goddess for fertility so that's why there's two movies about teenage pregnancy with Juno in the title. The storyline is completely different. One is about a young couple who tried to hid their pregnancy from their parents (Jenny Juno) while Juno tells her parents about her pregnancy early on. Juno is a movie about the girl who got pregnant and planned to give away her baby for adoption. Totally different story lines.

~__~ Juno isn't a remake. XD It is distinctively said to have been written by Doablo Cody. Really famous, with a blog of her own you can check out....I think they just happen to have the same title. Plus, I watched Juno and it's very sharp and edgy. (Not that Korean movies aren't sharp and edgy as well.) It just didn't feel very Korean. But *shrug*. I guess some stories have similar elements sometimes, or a writer might be inspired by a Korean movie and wrote something similar to it.
I think "perfect" romances are too much. Has there EVER been or will ever be a perfect romance? Relationships are good, but there's no such thing as a perfect one. Just through the plot (or the parts we're told of it) I'm already reserved about it.

I'm happy in not wanting to watch it. I was majorly depressed before coffee prince because it seemed I kept watching series where the main character dies. UGH!

I've always pictured Javabeans as a dead-ringer for Han Ji Hye, a bilingual Han Ji Hye conversant in both Korean and Daria.
"Can you teach me how to twirl my hair and stare vacantly. Uhm, right . . . Oppa!" *cue Han Ji Hye Snark*

i really like han ji hye in her acting as a marketing executive in (i think this is the common name for the KBS 1 Drama) Likeable or not/I hate you, but it's fine. seeing her as a lovey dovey couple will be interesting. but, figures out to be another autumn tale death tale... thanks for the review, and I hope it doesn't dissapoint me. may watch it if subbed. so sad that her and lee dong gun broke up. didn't know until right now... :(

I think that I'll draw the unpopular opinion and give this movie an open mind. It will be complete sap but I have a strong feeling that the acting will be strong and the plot well done. Lee Chun Hee is from Men Management after all, famous for Kang Dong Won, Im Ju Hwan and Lee Minki among others. I've only seen him in Temptation of the Wolves and though his part wasn't large, he did well. It would be interesting to see how far he's come since that movie. From the trailer, I already see a lot of promise. They're not making it mysterious but I'm really not expecting that. A good movie, good acting, decent plot (even if overused).
